Between 2000 and 2020, over one-third of the population increase of Yucat´an's capital city, M´erida, was due to the increase in the population born in another state in Mexico. Compared to the rest of Mexico and to Yucat´an's historical patterns, the growth in the out-of-state population during this time period has been unusual and dramatic. We focus on one explanation for this growth: the increase in criminal violence and insecurity in the rest of Mexico that has made Yucat´an an attractive destination for Mexicans seeking safe spaces to work, raise their families, and retire. Migration-policy specialists, the media, and scholars often focus their attention on Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs), who are forcibly displaced from their homes in contexts of generalized violence. Although migrants to Yucat´an cite security concerns more than migrants to any other state, few come from states in which IDPs have been documented. We broadly define migrants seeking safety from criminal insecurity and violence as security migrants and argue that using this broader definition describes migrants to Yucat´an more accurately than IDPs. The various constraints like the profitability of the groundnut and the domestic cotton industry and others led to the failure of the British to transform colonial Nigeria into a cotton paradise and ultimately were forced to promote the use of traditional agriculture in northern Nigeria. The British, due to lack of manpower in administering Nigeria, chose to govern through a modified emirate system and hoped that the agricultural sector using traditional methods of cultivation would produce and export cotton in high quantities to Britain.

Like many professional sports leagues worldwide, the National Basketball Association is organized as a cooperative of team owners. We argue that league ownership structures must balance two types of transaction costs: the costs to league owners of collective decision-making and the costs of contracting with stakeholders of the league, importantly players, owners, and potential investors. We compare the transaction costs of the current team owned league with the alternatives of investor and player owned leagues, finding that each ownership structure reduces some transaction costs while raising others. The conflicting empirical evidence on the cyclicality of real wages may be a result of the fact that the measure of comovements employed in the literature is affected by coherence among non-business cycle variations in the data. By recursively removing components the degree to which long- and short-term cycles contaminate the existing evidence is studied. While confirming many of the results of the current literature, it is found that evidence of cyclicality is affected more by long rather than by short-term components, even though the data have been detrended by a number of different methods. It has been suggested in the literature that wages become more countercyclical as the deflators used represent less finished bundles of goods.
