iPads have become increasingly popular as tools for teaching in early education. With their multifaceted and interactive affordances as handheld and mobile devices, they have been ascribed great potential to change and expand on classroom practice. However, the iPad often becomes just another technology hype in education, and explanations often point to teachers' and schools' lack of technical know-how and ability to utilise the devices' affordances. In this qualitative case study, we explore how teachers organise and practise iPads in two different classrooms. Classroom observations and interviews with the teachers were conducted to enrich our knowledge about the complexities of iPad use in teaching and to strengthen the knowledge of how different settings produce different iPad practices. Using an actor-network theory approach, the study suggests that iPads are not simply put into use, but enacted through fluid, heterogeneous assemblages of human and non-human actors in the classroom. The iPad's affordances, such as mobility, are performed rather than inherent qualities of the devices themselves, and the classroom becomes a mishmash of fostering and hindering mobile practices.

Abstract Background Malaria continues to wreak havoc on the well-being of the community. Resistant parasites are jeopardizing the treatment. This is a wake-up call for better medications. Folk plants are the key starting point for antimalarial drug discovery. After crushing and mixing the leaves of Coriandrum sativum with water, one cup of tea is drunk daily for a duration of three to five days as a remedy for malaria by local folks in Ethiopia. Additionally, in vitro experiments conducted on the plant leaf extract elsewhere have also demonstrated the plant’s malaria parasite inhibitory effect. There has been no pharmacologic research to assert this endowment in animals, though. This experiment was aimed at evaluating the antimalarial efficacy of C. sativum in Plasmodium berghei infected mice. Methods The plant's leaf was extracted using maceration with distilled water. The extract was examined for potential acute toxicity. An evaluation of secondary phytoconstituents was done. Standard antimalarial screening models (prophylactic, chemosuppressive, curative tests) were utilized to assess the antiplasmodial effect. In each test, thirty mice were organized into groups of five. To the three categories, the test substance was given at doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg/day before or after the commencement of P. berghei infection. Positive and negative control mice were provided Chloroquine and distilled water, respectively. Rectal temperature, parasitemia, body weight, survival time and packed cell volume were ultimately assessed. Analysis of the data was performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences. This article presents a case study of an 83-year-old man who was admitted to the hospital with symptoms including fever, pain, and loss of consciousness. The patient was diagnosed with septic shock and underwent whole blood transcriptome analysis to understand the pathogenesis of the disease. The analysis revealed changes in biological pathways related to inflammatory responses and immune suppression. The patient ultimately died of multiple organ failure due to septic shock. The study suggests that whole blood transcriptomic analysis can provide insights into the process of acute systemic inflammatory response and the challenges of maintaining homeostasis. Objective: This study aimed to assess uncontrolled blood pressure and contributing factors among patients with hypertension. Methods: Hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted from January to April 2021 at Bedele General Hospital. Data were collected using the semi-structured questionnaire. All patients with hypertension were included using consecutive sampling technique unless ineligible. EpiData 4.4.2 was used for data entry, and SPSS 24.0 was employed for analysis. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with uncontrolled blood pressure. Results: A total of 219 patients with hypertension were included in the study. About 60.3% of participants were male. The mean age of the study participants was 48.54 ± 12.93 years. The prevalence of uncontrolled blood pressure among the study participants was 56.2%. The factors significantly associated with uncontrolled blood pressure were age >60 years (adjusted prevalence ratio = 4.42; 95% confidence interval = (1.71, 11.46); p = 0.002) and the presence of comorbidity (adjusted prevalence ratio = 2.16; 95% confidence interval = (1.22, 3.82); p = 0.008). Conclusion: More than half of the study participants had uncontrolled blood pressure. Older age and comorbidity were the predictors of uncontrolled blood pressure. Attaining controlled blood pressure is important to avoid consequences of high blood pressure. So, healthcare provider should focus on achieving target blood pressure goal.

Objective: The aim of this study was to present our experience with retrograde suction decompression in clipping of large and giant cerebral aneurysms and analyze its advantages and pitfalls. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 27 patients with large and giant intracranial aneurysms treated by suction decompression assisted clipping between November 2005 and February 2010 was done. The surgical technique and the outcome of patients were reviewed. Results: All aneurysms were successfully clipped, and postoperative 3-D CTA or DSA revealed no major branch occlusion or residual aneurysm. There was no surgical mortality in both giant and large aneurysm groups. Conclusion: Retrograde suction decompression is a successful adjunct to clipping of large and giant cerebral aneurysms. Objective: To evaluate the usefulness and limitations of the intraoperative near-infrared (NIR) indocyanine green videoangiography (ICG-VA) and analysis of fluorescence intensity in cerebrovascular surgery. Methods: Forty-eight patients received ICG-VA during various surgical procedures from May 2010 to August 2010. Included among them were 45 cases of cerebral aneurysms and 3 cases of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). The infrared fluorescence module integrated into the surgical microscope was used to visualize fluorescent areas in the surgical field. An integrated analytical visualization tool constantly analyzed the fluorescence video sequence and generated it in the form of an intensity diagram for objective interpretation. Results: Overall, the procedure of ICG VA was done 158 times in 48 patients. There was no adverse effect of ICG dye. In cerebral aneurysm cases, the images obtained were of high resolution. In 4 cases, incomplete clipping was detected by ICG-VA and allowed suitable adjustment to completely obliterate the aneurysm. In 3 aneurysm cases, the intensity diagram of ICG VA provided valuable information. ICG-VA identified the feeding arteries, the draining veins, and nidus in all 3 AVM cases, which was confirmed by an immediate analysis of fluorescence intensity. Conclusions: ICG-VA provides high resolution images allowing real-time assessment of the blood flow in surgical field. The intensity analysis function, in addition, is a useful adjunct to improve the accuracy of the clipping and decrease the complication rates in cerebral aneurysm cases. A 45 year old woman presented with swelling and pain on joint movement of her knees, although joint movement was relatively well maintained. Five years previously the patient had been diagnosed as having pustulosis palmoplantaris by a dermatologist. Treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) had no effect, but treatment with 5 mg/day prednisolone caused remission of both the joint pain and swelling and the pustulosis palmoplantaris. There were no sternocostoclavicular lesions at any time during treatment. Clinical findings in this patient were different from previous reports and she was diagnosed as having palmoplantar pustulotic arthro-osteitis affecting the peripheral joints. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, examination of the limiting value of the thrust constant of a linear DC motor (LDM) is described. The LDM under consideration is a moving coil unipolar type. We deduce a relation between the limiting value of the thrust constant LDM and the dimensions of the yokes. By comparison of the measured thrust and the magnetic field analysis (finite element method), the validity of the thrust constant limit equation is confirmed. The thrust constant limit equation qualitatively agrees with the observed result, and its maximum error is 26.0 percent. It also agrees well with the result of the magnetic field analysis.
