Trabalho apresentado na: "DIGICOM 2021 – 5th International Conference on Design and Digital Communication", 4-6 November 2021, Teatro Gil Vicente, Barcelos, Portugal., The purpose of this article is to provide a better understanding of how to effectively develop design projects that simultaneously leverage industry and academic partners, participants from various disciplinary backgrounds, and vari- ous levels of expertise to solve complex problems. The article reports a single case of an ongoing project focused on designing smart and connected devices for mobility, which integrates the dimensions of interest. Our findings highlight the importance of careful planning of the collaborative process, contemplating of- fline and real-time communication opportunities, identifying cross-boundary roles, and considering the development of shared expertise and knowledge within the team. Understanding the student’s perception in higher education goes far beyond student retention. Factors such as satisfaction, motivation and irritability points help not only in a more convergent service planning between the institution’s efforts in the face of student expectation, but also in better learning. The perceived quality is difficult to measure and subjective. This work aims to understand the perceived quality of the student and analyze the SERQUAL model for its application in higher education. The 5 dimensions of the model were correlated with academic pillars and the sub-items of each dimension were expanded, according to previous studies. The research was conducted with 15% of the universe of students from a higher education course, which represents 69 students, from a private institution. The results were validated in a focus group of 5 students using tools such as the Ishikawa diagram and the Interrelationship Diagram. As a result of the application it was diagnosed that students have a higher expectation than the service offered, which results in a perceived negative quality. Points such as ‘parking’ and ‘operational service’, which are not essential characteristics of the educational service, directly impact on the perception of quality and consequently on the student’s satisfaction. As a main result it was noticed that the method points out the problems that most bother the students. They tend to analyze the whole and camouflage items in the face of these stressful stimuli. The method proved to be an ally in the detection of problems of perceived felt quality, but that requires beyond the determination of the data to understand the root cause of the results.

In order to improve their professional activity, fishermen have developed special methods and procedures for organising the space of their maritime territory. This article presents some of these practices, based on the specific case of the fishing community of Póvoa de Varzim, a town on the north coast of Portugal. Over the years, each fishing family has developed mental maps of the “seas”, creating original names to identify certain places and their different characteristics, while simultaneously producing a remarkable intangible heritage. Together with the productive transformations that were characteristic of industrialisation, traditional fishing methods have also gradually changed, incorporating the use of electronic navigation devices and other mechanisms for the detection of marine resources. In this way, the sea has begun to be mapped digitally through a system of “maritime backyards” that divide the space according to the fishing gear used. The aim of this work is to map and compare the maritime space produced by traditional fishing methods and by the contemporary system of “maritime backyards”, giving visibility to practices and territories that are normally absent from the representations of places., SPOOL, Vol. 7 No. 2: Landscape Metropolis #7

Este artigo dedica-se ao (re)conhecimento da obra intermediática da autora luso-brasileira Maria Adelaide Amaral e busca destacar os eventos sociais e políticos - em especial no que se refere ao período da ditadura no Brasil - que são resgatados na adaptação do romance Aos Meus Amigos (1991) para a televisão na minissérie Queridos amigos (2008) exibida pela Rede Globo. O texto está organizado a partir de três pontos: uma breve descrição da vida e obra da autora; a discussão da importância das minisséries na construção de sua carreira e principalmente na recuperação da História do/no Brasil; e o resgate à ditadura brasileira através da adaptação de Aos Meus Amigos (1991). Pretende-se, portanto, dar visibilidade e destaque ao trabalho de Maria Adelaide Amaral como mulher, novelista e dramaturga que experienciou a ditadura e expõe essa experiência em sua obra., This paper aims to review the intermediatic work of the Luso-Brazilian author Maria Adelaide Amaral. In addition, it seeks to highlight social and political events - especially with regard to the dictatorship period in Brazil - that are revisited in the adaptation of the novel Aos Meus Amigos (1991) for television with the mini-series Queridos amigos ( 2008) broadcasted by Rede Globo. The text is organized from three points: a brief description of the author's life and work; a discussion about the importance of miniseries in the construction of the author's career and mainly the importance of miniseries for recover History in/of Brazil; and the rediscovering the Brazilian dictatorship through the adaptation of Aos Meus Amigos (1991). It is intended, therefore, to give visibility and prominence to the work of Maria Adelaide Amaral as a woman, novelist and playwright who experienced the dictatorship and exposes this experience in her work.

A major problem with magnetogels is the encapsulation of hydrophobic drugs. Magnetoliposomes not only provide these domains but also improve drug stability and avert the aggregation of the magnetic nanoparticles. In this work, two magnetoliposome architectures, solid and aqueous, were combined with supramolecular peptide-based hydrogels, which are of biomedical interest owing to their biocompatibility, easy tunability, and wide array of applications. This proof-of-concept was carried out through combination of magnetoliposomes (loaded with the model drug curcumin and the lipid probe Nile Red) with the hydrogels prior to pH triggered gelation, and fluorescence spectroscopy was used to assess the dynamics of the encapsulated molecules. These systems allow for the encapsulation of a wider array of drugs. Further, the local environment of the encapsulated molecules after gelation is unaffected by the used magnetoliposome architecture. This system design is promising for future developments on drug delivery as it provides a means to independently modify the components and adapt and optimize the design according to the required conditions., FCT -Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia(UIDB/00686/2020)

Background:Infertility has been considered as a serious public health problem. Nevertheless, it is still very difficult to assess the epidemiology of this individual and public health problem. On the other hand, promotion of access to infertility treatments must be treated as a priority to national and regional policies.Objective:The aim was to evaluate the perception of women concerning the barriers and access to infertility consultations.Methods:Socio cultural and economic access to infertility consultations is detached and three municipalities of the northwest of Portugal were chosen as an example of a peripheral country. A quantitative/qualitative study was done with 60 women.Results:Three dimensions were evaluated: geographic and structural and functional access, economic access and sociocultural access. The main barriers were mainly identified in the last two dimensions. The economic access was less well evaluated by women bearing the cost of treatment (medication, and concentration of costs in a short period) which is difficult to bear.Conclusion:This can justify a greater involvement of the Portuguese Government, by developing policies for the reimbursement of part of the costs. Also, some changes in structural and functional access must be done with special regard to the separation of the infertility consultations from the reproductive medicine section. The setting of the teams, with a follow-up by the same team of health professionals is also needed.

Prior to the travel, diplomacy, and violence that often marked the establishment of colonies, distant lands were first owned on European soil as fictive possessions in the grandiose stories of colonial advertisements. Stakeholders in colonial ventures had to be convinced of the ease, glory, and profitability of their enterprise before they set sail to the New World. Exotic eyewitness accounts of explorers and travellers were commissioned to detail the abundant wonders to be harvested on foreign shores. Between 1635 and 1650, proposals to establish an English colony in Madagascar - known then as 'the largest island in the world' - had led to a short-lived colonial expedition whose members had to be evacuated from the big island after facing numerous casualties. Far from reflecting the geographical and social realities of the island, promotional literature overwhelmingly reported that Madagascar was a New World paradise. \ud \ud This thesis examines the shifting modes of idealisation employed by promotional works about Madagascar by reading them alongside the colonial discourse of early modern utopian exemplars such as Thomas More's Utopia (1516), Francis Bacon's New Atlantis (1627), and Henry Neville's Isle of Pines (1668). Specifically, this thesis examines two sets of texts at an intersection of literary and rhetorical genres, with a focus on their contrarian tendencies. Walter Hamond's A Paradox (1640) and Madagascar, the richest and most fruitfull island in the world (1643) are read as noteworthy colonial advertisements that critique the acquisitive excesses driving colonial ventures. Investigating the ironic nature of this set of texts by assessing it within the Renaissance tradition of the paradox reveals that Hamond's choice of rhetorical modes was deliberate and aimed to mitigate his audience's anxieties towards setting up a colony in Madagascar. This is followed by an exploration of the intertextual echoes in Henry Neville's utopian hoax, the Isle of Pines with respect to the question of the titular isle's location. It is argued that the imprints of various contemporary European accounts of Madagascar in Neville's work allow it to be read as a parable of English colonial folly. \ud \ud In bringing together the worlds of early modern travel narratives and utopian fiction, this thesis aims to open new perspectives in both domains. By mapping the various idealised depictions of Madagascar to the distinct colonial models found in early modern utopian literature, this dissertation argues that the contradictions encountered in promotional literature were rooted in the confluence of historical contingencies, ideological concerns, and the rhetorical forms that shaped the 'ideal politics' of seventeenth-century English colonial ventures.

In the past two decades, more and more dictionary usage studies have been published, but most of them deal with questions related to what users appreciate about dictionaries, which dictionaries they use and what type of information they need in specific situations — presupposing that users actually consult lexicographic resources. However, language teachers and lecturers in linguistics often have the impression that students do not use enough high-quality dictionaries in their everyday work. With this in mind, we launched an international cooperation project to collect empirical data to evaluate what it is that students actually do while attempting to solve language problems. To this end, we applied a new methodological setting: screen recording in conjunction with a thinking-aloud task. The collected empirical data offers a broad insight into what users really do while they attempt to solve language-related tasks online., In die afgelope twee dekades is al hoe meer woordeboekgebruikstudies gepubliseer, maar die meeste van hierdie studies handel oor vraagstukke wat verband hou met wat gebruikers van woordeboeke waardevol vind, watter woordeboeke hulle gebruik en watter tipe inligting hull in spesifieke situasies benodig — met die voorveronderstelling dat gebruikers inderdaad leksiko-grafiese hulpbronne raadpleeg. Taalonderwysers en dosente in die linguistiek kry dikwels die indruk dat studente nie genoeg hoëkwaliteitwoordeboeke in hul daaglikse werk gebruik nie. Met hierdie siening in gedagte het ons 'n internasionale samewerkingsprojek van stapel gestuur om empiriese data te versamel om sodoende te kan evalueer wat dit is wat studente in werklikheid doen wanneer hulle taalprobleme probeer oplos. Om hierdie doel te bereik het ons gebruik gemaak van 'n nuwe metodologiese omgewing: skermopnames saam met 'n opdrag wat uitgevoer moet word terwyl daar hardop gedink word. Die versamelde empiriese data verskaf 'n breë insig in wat gebruikers werklik doen terwyl hulle poog om taalverwante take aanlyn op te los.

Considering the importance of tourists’ satisfaction in regards to their intentions of revisiting the destination and providing word-of-mouth referrals, this study attempts to investigate the differences between first time and repeated visitors in terms of the perceived attributes of cultural/heritage destinations, tourists’ satisfaction and intention to return and to recommend a destination. The current case study is the city of Guimarães, in Portugal. The research methodology consists of a quantitative approach based on a self-administered survey applied to tourists who visited Guimarães during 2015. Looking at the empirical results, it was possible to conclude that first time and recurrent visitors showed no noticeable difference in the way the perceived attributes of the destination were ranked. In terms of satisfaction, both first time and repeated visitors showed a high level of overall satisfaction with their visit. However, this aspect seems to be insufficient to guarantee their willingness to return. The reforming work of Isabella Caroline Somerset (Lady Henry Somerset 1851-1921) is largely overlooked today. Dedicated to women’s causes at home and abroad and to temperance in particular, having first-hand knowledge of the privileged and the underprivileged, this determined, multi-talented and opinionated woman uncharacteristically wrote a fictional novel, Under the Arch (1906). In the novel, London aristocrats are portrayed rubbing shoulders with slum dwellers, but there is little real connection. The problems that the social policies introduced by the Liberals from 1906-1914 would address are nevertheless highlighted. It can be no coincidence that Somerset was well acquainted with many of these politicians. The themes of relieving the poor, Christian doctrine, marriage, women’s suffrage and imperialism are addressed, although Somerset’s focus is simply on “doing good” and loving one’s neighbour., info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Dissertação de mestrado em Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue, As an integral part of the Master’s in Translation and Multilingual Communication I have done a Project which included translation of tourist materials for the Tourism Office of Braga, Portugal (www.cm-braga.pt/wps/portal/public_en). This project gave me an opportunity to apply all my knowledge and skills I have acquired during my translation studies. I tried my hand at translation of tourist materials for Braga visitors and certainly benefited from this work, having developed and mastered all relevant competences. This multilingual project was designed for practicing my foreign languages (EN and PT) and testing my translation-related capabilities. Not only did I gain benefits, but I also contributed to the touristic attractiveness of this amazing and historic city by translating its website and touristic itineraries/booklets from EN/PT into RU. I believe a 10-month period spent in the city and the first-hand knowledge of its sights, cuisine and culture constructively affected the outcome quality to promote this architectural pearl of Portugal., Como parte integrante do Mestrado em Tradução e Comunicação Multilingual eu fiz um projeto que incluía a tradução dos materiais turísticos para o Posto de Turismo de Braga, Portugal (www.cm-braga.pt). Este projeto me deu a oportunidade de aplicar todo o meu conhecimento e habilidades que adquiri durante meus estudos de tradução. Eu tentei a minha mão na tradução de materiais turísticos para os visitantes Braga e certamente beneficiaram deste trabalho, tendo desenvolvido e dominado todas as competências relevantes. Este projeto multilíngue foi projetado para praticar minhas línguas estrangeiras (EN e PT) e testar as minhas capacidades relacionadas com a tradução. Para além de isto ter sido vantajoso para mim, consegui também contribuir para a atracão turística desta cidade maravilhosa e histórica ao traduzir seu site e roteiros turísticos / livretos de EN / PT para RU. Eu acredito que o período de 10 meses de permanência na cidade e o meu conhecimento de primeira mão dos seus pontos turísticos, gastronómicos e culturais a qualidade resultado para promover esta pérola arquitetónica de Portugal., В рамках учебной программы магистерского курса по переводу и мультиязычной коммуникации я выполняла проект, который заключался в переводе разнообразных материалов для туристического офиса города Брага, Португалия (www.cm-braga.pt). Этот проект предоставил мне великолепную возможность применить все свои знания и навыки, которые я приобрела за время обучения на переводческом курсе. Я попробовала свои силы в переводе туристических материалов для гостей Браги, в результате чего усовершенствовала уже имеющиеся и приобрела новые умения, а также получила неоценимый опыт. Этот мультиязычный проект послужил плацдармом как для практики иностранных языков (английского и португальского), так и для испытания моих переводческих способностей «в боевых условиях». Я не только извлекла личную выгоду из выполнения этого проекта, но также и внесла свой вклад в повышение туристической привлекательности этого замечательного исторического города посредством перевода вебсайта и туристических маршрутов/буклетов с английского и португальского на русский язык. Я надеюсь, что 10 месяцев, проведенные в Браге, а также знание многих достопримечательностей, кухни и культуры не понаслышке оказали положительное влияние на конечный результат и поспособствовали созданию отличной рекламы для этой архитектурной жемчужины Португалии

Dissertação de mestrado em Translation and Multilingual Communication, São Tomé and Principe is a little-known country, especially in the Anglophone world, as it has few ties with Anglophone countries, a small population and limited literary production. However, its rich history and culturally specific, powerful poetry make the archipelago an interesting subject for the study of the translation of culture. The poetry produced on the islands will be investigated and translated using different strategies suggested for the translation of poetry and culture. The difficulties of the translation of both poetry and culture will be defined, covering what is meant by ‘cultural language’ and ‘culture-specific items’ and how they can be approached in terms of translation studies. Next, the translatability of poetry will be discussed to define in which contexts poetry can and should be translated to any extent. In order to analyse the translation of poetry, the history of Lusophone poetry will be analysed, so that Santomean poetry can be placed within the historical and cultural context of Portuguese poetry. In so doing, the differences between the two can be pinpointed, and the aspects that make up Santomean poetry can be isolated, allowing them to be seen within a wider context. Once the Santomean cultural items have been defined, different strategies will be applied to reach different outcomes, investigating the best strategies for the translation of Santomean poetry. These include using footnotes, mimetic form, analogical form, organic form, extraneous form and phonemic translation. Applying the concepts of this area to the translation of such culturally specific poetry will lead to an analysis of the translation of poetry as well as the translation of culture, investigating how these two aspects are intertwined, and leading to the creation of a model for the translation of Santomean poetry., São Tomé e Príncipe é um país pouco conhecido, especialmente no mundo anglófono, sendo que o país tem poucas ligações com países anglófonos, uma população pequena e produção literária limitada. Contudo, a sua rica história e poesia poderosa e culturalmente especifica tornam o arquipélago um caso interessante para o estudo da tradução da cultura. A poesia produzida nas ilhas será investigada e traduzida usando diferentes estratégias sugeridas para a tradução da poesia e da cultura. As dificuldades da tradução da poesia e da cultura serão definidas, abrangendo o que se entende por "linguagem cultural" e "itens específicos da cultura" e como eles podem ser abordados em termos de estudos de tradução. Em seguida, a traduzabilidade da poesia será discutida em que contextos a poesia pode e deve ser traduzida e de qual forma. Para analisar a tradução da poesia, a história da poesia lusófona será analisada, para que a poesia Santomense possa ser inserida no contexto histórico e cultural da poesia portuguesa. Ao fazer isto, as diferenças entre os dois podem ser identificadas e os aspectos que compõem a poesia Santomense podem ser isolados, permitindo que sejam vistos dentro de um contexto mais amplo. Uma vez que os itens culturais Santomenses forem definidos, serão aplicadas diferentes estratégias para alcançar diferentes resultados, investigando as melhores estratégias para a tradução da poesia de São Tomé e Principe. Estes incluem o uso de notas de rodapé, forma mimética, forma analógica, forma orgânica, forma extrínseca e tradução fonêmica. A aplicação dos conceitos desta área à tradução de tal poesia culturalmente específica levará a uma análise da tradução da poesia, bem como a tradução da cultura, investigando como esses dois aspectos estão entrelaçados e levando à criação de um modelo para a tradução da poesia Santomense. A tradução da poesia é um aspecto polémico dentro dos estudos da tradução, então diferentes estratégias serão usadas para chegar a produtos diferentes, para investigar as melhores estratégias para a tradução da poesia Santomense. A aplicação destes conceitos para a tradução de uma poesia tão especificamente cultural levará a uma análise da tradução da poesia, assim como da cultura, e uma investigação de como estes dois aspectos estão entrelaçados.

Given the limitations imposed by the proposed time frame we could not contact each one of the actors. We gathered information based on our combined expertise and knowledge of the field. We used several sources (books, reports, organizations webpages and phone contacts); for the list of the most significant media literacy activities and practices that have taken place in the Portugal since 2010 we also made personal contacts. We started out by compiling a broad report of the whole field of media literacy in Portugal (Using tables Question1_Global and Question3_Global) and then departed to focus on audiovisual initiatives and programs (including both those which have audiovisual as a prime concern and those which have it as a secondary one) (Using tables Question1_Short version and Question3_Short version). Dissertação de mestrado em Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue, Obtaining the Master’s Degree in Translation and Multilingual Communication of the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal) requires doing a three-month internship as a part of the study programme. Particularly for this purpose I have worked as a translator-editor at the Nota Bene Translation Agency located in Minsk, Republic of Belarus. The Nota Bene Translation Agency (also known as Govorun prior to 2012) is a provider of turnkey language solutions for any businesses. 14-year work experience in the translation industry enabled the Company to accumulate expertise and form an extensive global network of freelance translators to cooperate with. Therefore, my contribution to the Agency and benefit from this internship consisted in being a part of the team of in-house translators working on all kinds of projects in different modes: cooperatively, individually, in a team, with assigned and subsequent tasks, etc., where I was able to apply all my theoretical knowledge and skills acquired during the classes., Получение степени магистра университета Минью (г. Брага, Португалия) в сфере перевода и мультиязычной коммуникации предполагает прохождение трехмесячной стажировки в рамках учебной программы. Именно с этой целью я прошел стажировку в качестве переводчика-редактора в агентстве переводов «Нота Бене», расположенном в г. Минск, Республика Беларусь. Агентство переводов «Нота Бене» (до 2012 года – «Птица Говорун») оказывает широкий перечень услуг по лингвистическому сопровождению бизнеса. За 14 лет работы в сфере перевода компания приобрела значительный опыт и сформировала широкую сеть внештатных переводчиков по всему миру. Таким образом, мой вклад в работу агентства, который по прохождении стажировки преобразовался в опыт, состоял в исполнении функций и обязанностей члена команды штатных переводчиков, работающих над всевозможными проектами в различных режимах: совместно, индивидуально, в команде, с распределением задач и т.п. Эта стажировка позволила мне применить на практике все свои теоретические знания и навыки, приобретенные за время обучения на курсе.

O presente texto é o resultado de uma apresentação realizada numa sessão aberta do “Transcrever Summer Lab 2017: Práticas Socioespaciais nos Bairros Sociais de Braga”, no Museu D. Diogo de Sousa em Braga, no dia 8 de setembro de 2017., After the Second World War, the rebirth of the European city entailed the construction ofan amazing amount of housing. It can be accurately stated that during that time the relentless building of houses corresponded to the largest urban growth of all time in Europe. Furthermore, it was decided that housing was best provided by the State, mainly locally via municipal government, and that it should be quickly built, in order to support the many people who were living in poor living conditions. In line with political and social shifts, this process came to an end by the mid-seventies. At that time, the memory of what had existed before – such as the 19th-century slums in western and central Europe or the atavistic rural poverty in eastern and southern Europe – was most surely fading. At the same time, private property was supplanting public property, instilling low tolerance for the legacy of social housing. But, in the last ten years, a more careful understanding has re-emerged around these housing complexes which, on the whole, has contributed to shaping the contemporary European city., info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Os Lusíadas, by the Portuguese poet Luís de Camões, was first translated into English at a\ud time of profound social and political uncertainty. Published in 1655 during the Interregnum, and\ud translated by Sir Richard Fanshawe (1608-1666), a loyal royalist and courtier of Charles I, The\ud Lusiad became the first translation of the epic to be made outside of the Iberian Peninsula, and the\ud first major literary exchange between Portugal and England. In addition to its foundational role in\ud bringing Portuguese literature into England, the timing of The Lusiad's publication and the political\ud allegiances of its translator raise the possibility that, in its first iteration in English, Camões's epic\ud was re-shaped by the political context in which it was produced.\ud \ud This thesis re-visits the first English translation of Os Lusíadas in order to ascertain to what\ud extent and in what way the Portuguese epic was shaped by the British political environment of the\ud 1650s. It closely examines the life and career path of Richard Fanshawe that led to the choice of\ud Camões's epic as an object of translation and how that choice changed his life in the aftermath of\ud the Restoration, effectively making him the ideal candidate for the post of Ambassador to Portugal.\ud It performs a close reading of the translation and its accompanying paratexts in relation to the\ud context of the publication, identifying and highlighting the elements that Fanshawe consciously\ud refashioned to address the specific problems Britain faced in the mid-seventeenth century.\ud \ud Englishing The Lusiad argues that Richard Fanshawe performed a specific kind of\ud appropriation of its object by subtly redirecting themes and scenes in the original Portuguese text\ud towards the events of the English Civil Wars and the Interregnum.

Tese de Doutoramento em Ciências da Cultura (especialização em Cultura Norte - Americana)., The United States are a political project born from clear moral and ethical values. The constitutional structure was created to reflect the revolutionary philosophy of the Independence, centred on defence of individual freedom. The innovative and ideological nature of the project has produced two different outlooks regarding the country’s role in the history of mankind. One is of a missionary temperament, internationalist and which argues for an involvement of America in world affairs to spread the values of 1776; the second is a more inward-looking understanding seeking to fulfil the meaning of America at home. This tension reproduces the dynamic nature of American idealism, founded on the clash of multiple positions and the ensuing negotiation which leads to national clarification. There is a cyclical clash of opposites from which emerges regularly a new synthesis that embraces the several impulses. There has been a noticeable departure from the original thesis stimulated by the political, social and constitutional evolution witnessed since the triumph of the internationalists in 1945. This has grave implications for the ideal of individual autonomy, and the absence of a national conversation regarding the international question and its domestic significance foretells a period of tension and reckoning from whence a new political and constitutional balance will emerge., Os Estados Unidos foram criados como um projecto político assente sobre claros valores morais. A estrutura constitucional foi erguida para reflectir a filosofia revolucionária da independência, fortemente centrada na defesa da liberdade individual. O carácter inovador e ideológico deste projecto levou ao desenvolvimento de duas perspectivas divergentes relativamente ao papel do país na marcha da história universal. Uma de índole missionária, internacionalista e que advoga o envolvimento dos Estados Unidos com o mundo para disseminar os valores de 1776; uma segunda de natureza mais insular que pretende realizar a América dentro de portas. Esta tensão reproduz a natureza dinâmica do idealismo americano, baseada no choque entre múltiplas posições e o processo de negociação que transporta o país para novos entendimentos nacionais. Ciclicamente o país confronta-se com os seus opostos e do choque de tensões emerge regularmente uma nova síntese. O triunfo da tese internacionalista a partir de 1945 ocasionou uma evolução política, social e constitucional que desviou o país dos seus princípios fundacionais e que implicam graves prejuízos para o ideal de autonomia individual. A inexistência de um debate sobre a questão internacional e as suas consequências internas silenciou o processo negocial normal e deixa antever um período de conflito e tensão do qual se prevê que saía um novo equilíbrio político e constitucional.

This study compares the performance of Portuguese-German heritage children and adult L2 speakers of European Portuguese whose L1 is German with respect to two aspects of grammar, adverb placement and VP-ellipsis, which depend on a core syntactic property of the language, verb movement. The results show that both groups have acquired V-to-I and adverb placement, showing no influence of a V2 grammar. Performance in the VP-ellipsis task is more complex: heritage children produce VP-ellipsis at the level of controls, as opposed to L2 speakers; however, both L2 and heritage speakers show that cross-linguistic influence may produce a preference for pronoun substitution over VP-ellipsis in a task asking for redundancy resolution. Nevertheless, given that overall results show that heritage children perform at the level of L1 children, we take our results to support approaches to heritage bilingualism which suggest the development of an intact grammar in childhood.

Depression is a major public health problem in children and adolescents, which makes the identification and implementation of effective interventions an increasing concern. Therefore, the main aim of this article is to discuss theoretically different psychological interventions for depression. In particular, those focused on psychopathology and depressive symptom reduction and the new interventions based on the positive psychology approach, which focus on optimal functioning and wellbeing. Empirically supported interventions for children and adolescents, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy (IPT), have focus on symptom reduction, which represents an incomplete vision of youth functioning. In contrast, interventions based on positive psychology promote a more balanced approach that takes into consideration the negative and positive aspects of experience and aims to enhance well-being. We present and discuss new interventions, such as the Optimal Functioning Therapy for Adolescents, which suggest that the focus of interventions for depressed adolescents should integrate symptom reduction and well-being enhancement to achieve optimal functioning. Helping young people be happier and more engaged in their lives is part of a new perspective for clinical psychology practice., La depresión es un problema de salud pública importante en niños y adolescentes, lo que hace que identificar e implementar intervenciones efectivas para su tratamiento sea de creciente interés. Por lo tanto, el objetivo principal de este artículo es discutir teóricamente diferentes intervenciones psicológicas para la depresión. En particular, las que se abordan la psicopatología, la reducción de los síntomas depresivos y las nuevas intervenciones basadas en el enfoque de la psicología positiva, que se centran en el funcionamiento óptimo y el bienestar de la persona. Intervenciones con respaldo empírico para los niños y adolescentes, como la terapia cognitivo-conductual (TCC) y la terapia interpersonal (IPT), tienen un enfoque de reducción de síntomas, lo que representa una visión incompleta de funcionamiento en la juventud. En contraste, las intervenciones basadas en la psicología positiva promueven una aproximación más equilibrada que contempla los aspectos negativos y positivos de la experiencia y tiene como objetivo mejorar el bienestar. Reconstructed in social contexts, the memories of forced migration experiences such as those lived by filmmakers Diana Andringa and António Escudeiro – who had to leave Angola, the country where they had been born and raised – are now being highlighted, shared, and negotiated in the current audiovisual context. The documentaries analyzed in this work, Escudeiro’s Goodbye, Until Tomorrow (2007) and Andringa’s Dundo, Colonial Memory (2009), allow us to reflect on how these memories of migration experiences are portrayed in contemporary Portuguese cinema. In this article, we argue that autobiographical narratives – oral and visual – are privileged sites for investigating cultural identity and its construction. Our thematic analysis of these two documentaries was complemented by an in-depth interview with the authors. This multi-method approach allowed us to investigate the social and cultural contexts in which they lived, as well as the meanings of home and belonging to the two filmmakers., Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT)

The sensible forms that stand the daily experience of movement through urban space in outdoor advertising are one of the most conducive to the exercise of social life. However, outdoor advertising imposing on a dialogical relationship is not always peaceful, perceived as a threat to the order (disorder) of the city. Can the ads stop wanting to affirm the place of persuasion, seduction and poetics in the context of contemporary urban life? On September 26, 2006, the Municipality of São Paulo, Brazil, approved the Clean City Law, seeking a ban on outdoor advertising. Since then, a fierce controversy has occupied citizens, politicians, architects, planners, publicists, and artists, among different types of actors in defense of views sometimes radically irreconcilable. In many languages, some phonological segments orstructures are allowed at word boundaries only. Theimportance of this fact is manifold: it shows that phonologyis not "blind" to the word as a linguistic unit; it can explainsome aspects of speech processing (how speech continuaare split into words); it may help to build software aimed atidentifying word boundaries within larger continua. ForEuropean Portuguese and for other Romance languagespossibly, it is proposed that a "Prosodic Tolerance of theWord Right Boundary" should play an important role as aphonotactic cue for word-endings: these languages areknown to be very restrictive as far as the segmental codafillingis concerned. However, these restrictions aresomehow cancelled at word-endings, which admitphonotactic combinations that are not allowed elsewhere. Aformalization of this phenomenon, inspired by the logicalformalisms of Declarative Phonology, is also proposed here.

The concept of philanthropia is often associated with that of compassion and characterizes, ideally, the relations between the powerful and those who are found to be in a situation of fragility and impotence. The intention of this study is to show how, in the Lives of Demosthenes and Cicero, this notion of philanthropia takes on a tragic tone, one which is reinforced by theallusions to Sophocles's Antigone, a play which seems to serve as an ethical frame of reference for the evaluation of the protagonists' ethos in crucial moments of their lives.

FR: Le principal but de ce travail est de décrire le comportement des indéfinis sans modification adjectivale en position de sujet préverbal dans des contextes génériques et de montrer leur rapport avec les noms nus en portugais européen (PE). Il est possible de signaler une différence dans la distribution des noms nus en position de sujet préverbal entre les langues germaniques et les langues romanes : l'emploi des noms comptables au pluriel et des noms massifs est grammatical en anglais, très restreint en italien, espagnol et PE, et agrammatical en français. En nous fondant sur les critères établis par Dowty (1979) pour la distinction entre événements et états et sur la distinction proposée par Cunha (2004) entre les éventualités admettant des phases et les éventualités ne les admettant pas, nous établis- sons une corrélation entre la distribution des noms nus et des indéfinis en position sujet préverbal dans le PE et différents types de prédicats. En synthétisant les étalons obtenus dans la description des données, nous combinons (suivant Duarte et al., 2002, et Oliveira et al., 2006) la valeur de chacun des prédicats considérés et la valeur respective du sujet, dans le but d'établir les propriétés des noms nus et des indéfinis en position de sujet préverbal dans le PE, notamment en ce qui concerne les contextes génériques qui les autorisent. Nous montrerons que soit les indéfinis soit les noms nus fonctionnent de façon différente dans cette position-là selon leur forme singulière ou plurielle. The main goal of this work is to describe how singular and plural indefinites without modification in preverbal subject position behave in generic contexts and how they relate to bare nouns in European Portuguese (EP) in the same position and con- texts. In what concerns the distribution of bare nouns (BN) in subject preverbal position without modifiers, a contrast between Germanic and Romance languages has been noticed: plural count nouns and mass nouns are grammatical in English, but not in French and they are quite restricted in Italian, Spanish and EP. Based on the criteria established by Dowty (1979) for distinguishing states from events and on the distinction proposed by Cunha (2004) between phase and non phase eventualities, we establish a correlation between the distribution of BN and indefinites in preverbal subject position in EP and different types of predicates. Having summarized the patterns obtained by the data description, we combine (following Duarte et al., 2002, and Oliveira et al., 2006) the predicate value of each of the considered predicates and their corresponding subject value, in order to account for the properties of the BNs and indefinites preverbal subjects in EP, namely with respect to the generic contexts that allow them. It will be showed that both indefinites and BNs behave differently in such position depending on their singular or plural form.

O sítio arqueológico do Prazo situa-se na freguesia de Freixo de Numão (Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Nordeste de Portugal). Após a sua descoberta, no início dos anos 80, o Prazo foi alvo de várias campanhas de escavação orientadas para o estudo da villa romana e dos vestígios medievais existentes no local. Em 1996, os trabalhos de campo puseram a descoberto níveis datados do Neolítico Antigo. Entre 1997 e 2001, as escavações realizadas centraramse na análise destes níveis pré-históricos, revelando a existência de uma espessa sequência estratigráfica que, para além de conservar depósitos residuais plistocénicos, incluía igualmente sedimentos atribuíveis a grande parte do Holocénico antigo e médio. Este artigo pretende apresentar a geoarqueologia e a cronologia da sequência pré-histórica do Prazo, que se organiza essencialmente em três conjuntos: um conjunto do Plistocénico superior (conjunto PS), constituído por depósitos de vertente, e contendo um registo arqueológico (artefactos líticos e estruturas antrópicas) datado provisoriamente do Paleolítico superior; um conjunto atribuído ao Holocénico antigo e médio (conjunto HA), igualmente composto por sedimentos de vertente e que forneceu elementos arqueológicos do Epipaleolítico/Mesolí- tico e do Neolítico Antigo; um conjunto do Holocénico recente (conjunto HR), correspondente às ocupações romanas e medievais do local. Neste texto discutem-se igualmente as datações radiométricas disponíveis. Estes dados, embora preliminares, visam esclarecer questões relacionadas com a evolução ambiental do local e com as estratégias da sua ocupação durante a Pré-história. The Prazo archaeological site is located near Freixo de Numão (Vila Nova de Foz Côa, north-eastern Portugal). The site, discovered in the early 80s, initially revealed a significant historical record, having been a Roman villawhose occupation continued through part of the Middle Ages. In 1996, fieldwork there uncovered Neolithic layers. They were excavated from 1997 to 2001, revealing also the existence of a pre-Neolithic occupation. This paper presents the geoarchaeology and chronology of the prehistoric succession of Prazo, which is arranged as follows: an upper Pleistocene complex formed of slope waste sediments, featuring upper Palaeolithic finds and structures; an early to mid Holocene succession, also composed from slope waste deposits, containing Epipalaeolithic/Mesolithic and Early Neolithic archaeological assemblages and features; and an upper Holocene complex, corresponding to occupations in the Roman and Middle Ages. The available data deriving from the geoarchaeological survey at the site and from an extensive range of radiocarbon dates are presented as part of a preliminary discussion of the environmental evolution and the settlement strategies at the site.

Bandaiyan is a place inhabited and known since time immemorial by the Indigenous peoples of the continent now called Australia. When mariners from the Dutch United East India Company (VOC) landed on its shores in 1606, they sought gold and other sources of profit reputed to exist in Terra Australis Incognita ('the unknown southland'), a Renaissance theorization of the classical notion of the antipodes. Over the next century, a geographical discourse emerged in voyage accounts, maps, and utopian speculations, based on the observations of visitors to the continent, but notable for an absence of Indigenous knowledge, a scarcity of endogenous details, and negative misinterpretations about its inhabitants. Soon after the onset of the British colonial invasions in 1788, the continent was officially named 'Australia' after the Renaissance theory. Why did the collection of empirical observations of locations along the shores of Bandaiyan produce a poetic geographical discourse which continued to be associated with Terra Australis Incognita and ignored Indigenous people's presence? I adopt a geocritical approach based on Edward Casey's phenomenology of place to evince how myth, theory, observation, description, and projection were combined in poetic geographies produced in response to European experiences of Bandaiyan. An analysis of texts, maps, and illustrations published in Dutch, French, English, and other languages between 1606 and 1708 is set in the context of anthropological, linguistic, archaeological, and botanical evidence of classical (pre-Invasion) Aboriginal societies. I find that a standardized poetic geography of Hollandia Nova was created in the 1640s from VOC charts, whose main function was to visualize Dutch imperium. Aside from parts of the shore, it conveyed no details of Bandaiyan nor its peoples, who had often rejected their uninvited visitors' overtures to become 'known'. At the same time, few accounts of visitors' experiences of the continent were published, so that Terra Australis came gradually to be associated with metropolitan geography's new terra incognita, inspiring projections of colonial utopias in Europe's antipodes. Unpublished mariners' accounts provide more complex impressions, and make the best sources for further research into pre-colonial relations between visitors and Bandaiyan's peoples.
