Oscillation-based test algorithm has been proposed and verified experimentally as an alternative to the specification--based test of analog circuits. Active filters are transformed to oscillators using nonlinear feedback, realized with a Schmitt trigger. Faults are detected based on the deviation of the oscillation frequency outside the tolerance band due to the variation of different circuit components under test. This proposed technique ensures high test precision due to the processing of the oscillation frequency with the help of a purely digital circuit. Undetectable ranges of parametric faults of circuit components have been identified by simulation with Cadence virtuoso using the 0.18 µm CMOS technology. Then, practical circuits of second order Butterworth Low Pass Filter and Sallen-Key Band Pass Filter have been tested experimentally. We earlier reported thiophene-containing trisubstituted methanes (TRSMs) as novel cores carrying anti-tubercular activity, and identified S006-830 as the phenotypic lead with potent bactericidal activity against single- and multi-drug resistant clinical isolates ofMycobacterium tuberculosis(M. tb). In this work, we carried out additional synthesis of several TRSMs. The reaction scheme essentially followed the Grignard reaction and Friedel–Crafts alkylation, followed by insertion of a dialkylaminoethyl chain. We also performed microbiological evaluations includingin vitroscreening against the virulent strainM. tbH37Rv, cytotoxicity assessment in the Vero C-1008 cell line, and 3D-QSAR studies with comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity index analysis (CoMSIA). CoMFA and CoMSIA models yielded good statistical results in terms ofq2andr2values, suggesting the validity of the models. It was concluded that a para-substituted benzene ring with bulkier electron-donating groups and aminoalkyl chains are required for higher inhibitory capacity againstM. tuberculosis. Patellar tendon avulsion is a risk with difficult exposure in a stiff knee, patella baja or previous tibial osteotomy. We sought to define a safe amount of release of the patellar tendon insertion for such cases. Eleven pairs of fresh frozen cadaveric lower limb specimens were acquired and randomized to either intact or partial release of the distal tibial insertion. Partial release of the tibial insertion of the tendon increased lateral exposure a mean 29% ± 15% (P = 0.002) while reducing ultimate strength to a mean of 80% that of the intact contralateral tendon. A new series of benzene and isoquinoline sulfonamide derivatives were synthesized by nucleophilic displacement reaction on benzene and isoquinoline sulfonyl chlorides by substituted amines (primary and secondary). The title compounds were evaluated for antimalarial activity against Plasmodium falciparum in vitro and showed MIC in the range of 2-50 microg/mL.

The second published case of amyloidoma in the pelvis and sacrum is reported. Fine needle aspiration biopsy revealed multinucleate giant cells, lymphocytes and plasma cells, some atypical. Congo red staining of the cell block and aspirate showed focal, apple-green birefringence consistent with amyloid. The histologic, radiologic and clinical features of this case are discussed, and the cytologic findings in previously reported fine needle aspiration biopsies of amyloidomas are reviewed.

The association of Hashimoto's thyroiditis with lymphoma and papillary carcinoma has been recognized, but there have been few reports of an association between Hashimoto's thyroiditis and medullary carcinoma of the thyroid gland, especially in Canada. The authors report three cases, seen in an 18-month period, of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and medullary carcinoma in patients whose relatives had multiple endocrine neoplasia type II. The findings support the view that the thyroiditis occurred in response to the tumour process and not vice versa.
