The Atlantic Forest has one of the richest floras in the world and floristic surveys are essential to understand its biodiversity and promote its conservation. This study aims to contribute to the floristic understanding of Anacardiaceae in the Iguaçu National Park (Brazil) and the Iguazú National Park (Argentina). Monthly samplings were performed from 03/2019 to 02/2020 and sporadic samplings from 11/2020 to 01/2021 in the main trails from both parks, as well as herbarium review and surveys on virtual platforms. Two native species: Lithraea molleoides and Schinus terebinthifolia, and two exotic cultivated species: Mangifera indica and Spondias purpurea were found in the Iguaçu National Park and only one native species, Schinus terebinthifolia, in the Iguazú National Park. Identification key, descriptions, photographs with diagnostic characters of the taxa, taxonomic comments, geographical distribution, phenology, common names, uses and observations are provided. ABSTRACT Pair-formation, courtship, copulatory, and post-copulatory behaviors of Eidmanacris meridionalis Desutter-Grandcolas, 1995, were described under laboratory conditions and compared with congeneric species and other Phalangopsidae crickets whose mating behavior has been previously studied. Field observations for the species are also reported. Mating behaviors were observed in E. meridionalis couples: they first remained motionless, and then began walking through the arena screening the substrate. Mating behavior started with antennal contact, followed by males positioning themselves in front of females, that, when receptive, mounted on the males back and started feeding on metanotum secretions of the males. Copulation (female-above-male position) started with the engaging of copulatory structures and stopped with couple detachment. The end-to-end position was observed once, right after couple detachment. Males always remained with the spermatophore, which was eaten after removal or, alternatively, left in the substrate. The main differences in mating behavior of Eidmanacris species regard the mating position and the duration of the reproductive stages, suggesting that other reproductive repertoires can be observed in the genus since 27 species have not yet been studied in regards their reproductive behavior. We can also assume that the morphological, genetic, and chemical diversity found among the species of Phalangopsidae reflects in the behaviors of pair-formation, courtship, copulation, and post-copulation, leading to a diversity of copulation positions, duration of the stages, methods of attracting partners and parental investment. The description of Phalangopsidae mating patterns can provide important information for future evolutionary and phylogenetic studies, apart from useful for distinguishing cryptic species.

Abstract The current study has investigated whether arthropod richness in soybean monoculture (Glycine max) decreases, whereas the abundance, mainly of herbivores, increases as distance from Parque Nacional do Iguaçu (PNI) increases. Active and passive arthropod collections were performed at different distances (5, 50, 300 and 600 m) from PNI. Arthropod richness in agricultural area decreased as distance from PNI increased. Results have shown that Conservation Units can act as source of ecosystem services for surrounding monocultures. The presence of pollinators in collections has confirmed the important role played by protected natural areas in agriculture, since they contribute to this economic activity by providing ecosystem services such as pollination.

Abstract Here we describe a new katydid species, Phylloptera jaci sp. nov., from the Iguaçu National Park, a large Atlantic Forest protected remnant in southern Brazil. This is the first record of a species of Phylloptera of the picta species group both for Brazil and the Atlantic Forest. We also designate the lectotype for Phylloptera picta, from Peru, and present a complementary description of this species. An occurrence map for the species of Phylloptera of the picta species group are also presented.

We recorded for the first time the occurrence of the mayfly genus Simothraulopsis Demoulin, 1966 in the Paraná Basin. Adults of Simothraulopsis demerara (Traver, 1947) and Simothraulopsis diamantinensis Mariano, 2010 were collected using a white sheet light trap installed on the bank of Iguaçu River, near the falls in Iguaçu National Park, Brazil. The mating behaviors of crickets, especially those related to agonistic encounters and oviposition, are poorly known. For example, only 10 of the 1005 valid species of Phalangopsidae have been studied to some extent. Here, we describe the reproductive behavior of Endecous (Endecous) chape, characterizing the actions involved in agonistic encounters, mating behaviors (female attraction, pair-formation, courtship, mating, and postcopulatory behavior), and oviposition. We recorded and timed agonistic, mating, and oviposition behaviors in staged trials. The male-male interactions of E. chape ranged in aggressiveness from low intensity (only antennal interaction) to high intensity (reciprocal fights). In the mating behavior, males courted females through antennation of the females' abdomen and cerci, followed by production of acoustic signals (with the exception of two males). Copulation occurred with females positioned above males (as is typical of Phalangopsidae), with an average elapsed time of 684.13 s, which is shorter than in other Phalangopsidae. We observed oviposition behavior only when three gravid females were placed together in an arena. Here, we contribute new knowledge of phalangopsid cricket behavior and provide useful information for understanding the evolution of reproductive behaviors. The limnological characteristics and the phytoplankton community of the pelagic region of the São João River, tributary of the Iguaçu River, Iguaçu National Park were analyzed from August 2008 to July 2009. 221 taxa were identified and the Bacillariophyceae class was the most representative. Bacillariophyceae and Chrysophyceae were the dominant classes in density and Bacillariophyceae in biovolume. According to the DCA carried out for phytoplankton density and biovolume, significant differences were identified between the periods, and between the sites and study periods, respectively. The highest richness of species reached 40 taxa in September 2008 at station 1. The Shannon-Wiener diversity indexes and evenness, calculated from the density of phytoplankton, were temporally heterogeneous and spatially similar. In general, the significant temporal variations in the composition of the phytoplankton community were due to variations in limnological conditions, mainly temperature, transparency and nutrients. Spatially the structure was more similar due to the proximity among the stations. Moreover, the similarity of the distribution of communities in lotic environments were due to the unidirectional flow.As características limnológicas e a comunidade fitoplanctônica na região pelágica do Rio São João, tributário do Rio Iguaçu, Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, foram analisadas de agosto de 2008 a julho de 2009. Foram identificados 221 táxons, sendo Bacillariophyceae a classe mais representativa. Bacillariophyceae e Chrysophyceae foram as classes dominantes em densidade e Bacillariophyceae, em biovolume. De acordo com a DCA realizada para densidade e biovolume, foram identificadas diferenças significativas entre os períodos e entre os locais e períodos estudados, respectivamente. A maior riqueza de espécies foi alcançada em setembro de 2008 com 40 táxons na estação 1. O índice de diversidade de Shannon-Wiener e a equitabilidade, calculados a partir da densidade fitoplanctônica, foram temporalmente heterogêneos e espacialmente similares. Em geral, variações significativas na composição do fitoplâncton foram devidas às variações nas condições limnológicas, principalmente temperatura, transparência e nutrientes. Espacialmente, a estrutura foi mais similar, em razão da proximidade das estações e, também, da similaridade da distribuição da comunidade em ambientes lóticos, devido ao fluxo unidirecional.
