Purpose: To continue to stay relevant in the era of Industry Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) alongside the unprecedented disruption of COVID-19, the importance of lifelong learning is indisputable though this concept has existed for decades. In this context, open and distance learning (ODL) institutions are urged to re-think and re-design their online learning support systems that inculcate self-regulated lifelong learning (SR3Ls) in their learners to be adaptable and resilient for the post-pandemic economy. The purpose of this paper is to develop a SR3Ls model, namely SR3Ls model by utilising the collective opinions of a panel of experts to determine the key domains and attributes. Design/methodology/approach: A 2-round Delphi consensus study was conducted with 39 experts from five countries. The mean, standard deviation (SD), inter-quartile range (IQR) and the ratio of experts assigned score of 4 or greater were used as the basis of consensus assessment with criteria set at mean = 3.0, SD = 1.5, IQR = 1, ratio on score 4 or greater at = 75%. The questionnaire consisted of 5-point Likert-type scale rating the importance level of each attribute combined with open-ended questions. Findings: This paper presented the findings of the first round of Delphi consensus study. For the first round, the experts were asked to evaluate 31 key attributes of SR3Ls model under five domains. The findings revealed that there were five key attributes to be eliminated from the list, while there were seven attributes identified as the key attributes with highest consensus. There were additional attributes suggested by the Delphi panel to be added in the second round of evaluation. Originality/value: This international consensus-based SR3Ls model serves as an important benchmark for ODL institutions across the regions in developing meaningful and relevant online learning support systems for their learners to adopt SR3Ls attributes in order to meet the dynamic market demands.

Flipped classroom approaches envision students using technology to access the lecture and other instructional resources outside of the classroom to engage them in active learning during class time. Although flipped classroom practices have been used in a number of educational studies and found positive outcomes, there were still some challenges with this approach. Therefore, there is a need for an innovative flipped classroom. In this article, the researcher presents a 5E-flipped learning environment approach and collected results of such data. The approach incorporates a 5E learning cycle model and flipped learning practices, making it accessible to anyone who wants to implement a 5E-flipped learning environment experience in their course. The 5E-flipped learning environment educational model proposes could help students to achieve higher order and deeper levels of learning as they engage in active work during online and face-to-face sessions. However, the thematic analysis of qualitative data three sources, participants learning dairy, focused group discussion and interview of 12 medical assistant students emerged some challenges they faced in a 5E-flipped learning environment. They faced challenges on learning activities which focused on fail to accomplish learning task and challenges on personal barriers related to lack of independent initiative and heavy responsibility on learners which influence their engagement in learning process. Therefore, the 5E-flipped learning activities need to be designed with these considerations in mind to encourage active student participation in online and classroom activities.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationship between undergraduates' course experience and their deep learning approach and to identify areas of improvement to facilitate students' deep learning in the private higher education context. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected from 844 Malaysian undergraduate students who studied in six private higher education institutions (HEIs) in Penang and Selangor. This study used partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) for data analysis. Findings: The findings revealed that good teaching and appropriate assessment have no significant relationship with deep learning. Generic skills, clear goals and standards, appropriate workload and emphasis on independence are positively related to deep learning. Generic skills and emphasis on independence are two domains that deserve attention to enhance deep learning among undergraduates. Practical implications: Lecturers need to focus on to the cultivation of generic skills to facilitate students' deep learning. Student autonomy and student-centred teaching approaches should be empowered and prioritised in teaching and learning. Originality/value: The current study has its originality in providing empirical findings to inform the significant relationship between dimensions of course experience and deep learning in Malaysian private HEIs. Besides, it also identifies the areas of improvement concerning teaching and learning at the private HEIs using importance-performance matrix analysis (IPMA) in a non-Western context.

Different studies have addressed different aspects of flipped learning but its practices and issues with integrated 5E learning cycles in higher education in Malaysia context still need to be explored. This case study is an attempt to explore medical assistant undergraduate students’ learning experiences in the 5E flipped learning environment (5EFL). Varied forms of data were collected, including (1) semi-structured individual interviews with students, (2) student focus discussions, (3) participant learning journals, and (4) classroom observations. Thematic analyses were conducted to analyze qualitative data respectively. Multiple methods were employed to establish the trustworthiness of the study. The findings indicated that students valued real-time interactions with peers and the instructor. In addition, five themes emerged from the study a) Supportive Learning Process, b) Organized and Well-Structured Method, c) Enhance Teacher’s Supportive Role, d) Facilitate Students' Role, and e) Enhance Perceived Competence Level in Learning. This study found learners improved their quality of work in 5EFL. Thus, this 5EFL environment played an important role in enriching learners’ cognitive load in the learning process.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of multiple simulation presentation in interactive multimedia are on the achievement of students with different levels of anxiety in the learning of Probability. The interactive multimedia courseware was developed in two different modes, which were Multiple Simulation Presentation (MSP) and Single Simulation Presentation (SSP). These presentation modes acted as independent variables, while the dependent variable was the students' mean score of posttest. The moderator variable was the different levels of anxiety. The sample of the study was 70 Form Four Malaysian students from five intact classes. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were carried out to analyse the research data. Analyses of Covariance (ANCOVA) were used to study the main effects and the interaction effect of independent variables against the dependent variables. The findings of this study showed that students in SSP mode had achieved significantly higher mean score of posttest than the students in MSP mode. The high anxiety students who were presented with SSP mode had achieved significantly higher mean score of posttest compared to the high anxiety students who were presented with MSP mode. This study implicated that students learn better when corresponding with SSP mode, especially for students with high level of anxiety. (Contains 4 tables and 8 figures.)

The conventional way of using letter-to-sound approach to acquire English pronunciation competence is limited to simple and regular English words in elementary level. This limitation signifies the potentialities of phonetic symbols that are applicable to the pronunciation of all the words of human languages. The researchers are exploring the innovative use of phonetic symbols within the multimedia based English Pronunciation Learning Management System. The dynamic interactive learning system bears practical value to help novice users of the system become active and independent English pronunciation learners. The learners will be expected to benefit from this innovative approach to substantially improve their pronunciation competence. The proposed Multimedia Pronunciation Learning Management System (MPLMS) marks a radical transformation of pronunciation learning.
