Abstract Wind power input to oceanic near‐inertial oscillations (NIOs) plays a crucial role in sustaining the global ocean conveyor belt. However, the impact of tropical cyclones (TCs) on wind power input to NIOs, despite being the most vigorous atmospheric dynamics capable of exciting NIOs, is often overlooked in global estimations due to their transient nature and a lack of observations. Utilizing hourly wind and ocean current records, we quantified the wind power on NIOs induced by TCs from 1990 to 2019. Our findings reveal that the wind power on NIOs due to TCs is estimated to be between 0.028 and 0.065 TW, which accounts for a significant proportion, that is, 8%–17%, of that over the globe. This study highlights the importance of incorporating the wind power induced by TCs when estimating the global wind power on NIOs, as its impact is non‐negligible. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of the global energy balance by improving the estimation of wind power on NIOs.

Over the past decade, research on atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) has expanded rapidly due to their unique properties such as high carrier mobility, significant excitonic effects, and strong spin–orbit couplings. Considerable attention from both scientific and industrial communities has fully fueled the exploration of TMDs toward practical applications. Proposed scenarios, such as ultrascaled transistors, on-chip photonics, flexible optoelectronics, and efficient electrocatalysis, critically depend on the scalable production of large-area TMD films. Correspondingly, substantial efforts have been devoted to refining the synthesizing methodology of 2D TMDs, which brought the field to a stage that necessitates a comprehensive summary. In this Review, we give a systematic overview of the basic designs and significant advancements in large-area epitaxial growth of TMDs. We first sketch out their fundamental structures and diverse properties. Subsequent discussion encompasses the state-of-the-art wafer-scale production designs, single-crystal epitaxial strategies, and techniques for structure modification and postprocessing. Additionally, we highlight the future directions for application-driven material fabrication and persistent challenges, aiming to inspire ongoing exploration along a revolution in the modern semiconductor industry. Highcarrier concentration and low mobility in Bi2Se3 hide thetopological surface states (TSS). In the 2D ternary topological insulator (TI) Bi2–xSbxSe3,compensatory Sb doping regulates the carrier concentration and mobility withambipolar performance, together with the ultrathin thickness; these factorsmake the TSS in the 2D ternary TI Bi2–xSbxSe3 more observable. Here, a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method is provided for synthesizing ultrathin Sb‐doped Bi2Se3 nanoplates with dimensions of 2–126 nm in thickness, 3–100 µm in lateral size, and an average Sb doping ranging from 0.15 ≤ x ≤ 0.75. Bi2–xSbxSe3 field effect transistors and Hall devices are manufactured to determine the carrier concentration and mobility of the obtained Bi2–xSbxSe3 nanoplates. These findings demonstrate that the 2D carrier concentration for Bi2–xSbxSe3 nanoplates can decrease up to 1.6 × 1012 cm–2. Furthermore, field‐effect mobility and Hall mobility of up to 3411 cm2 V–1s–1 and 6462 cm2 V–1 s–1, respectively, are realized. A strong ambipolar field effect is found in low‐carrier‐density Bi2–xSbxSe3 nanoplates, proving that these nanostructures may be freely controlled in terms of carrier type and concentration. The synthesis of high‐quality Bi2–xSbxSe3 nanoplates with low‐carrier concentration and high‐mobility provides a platform for investigating TI characteristics more clearly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The volumetric change in unsaturated loess during loading causes serious damage to the foundation and structure, accompanied by changes in hydraulic conditions. Therefore, quantifying the change in the load effect of loess under hydraulic coupling is of great significance for revealing the mechanism of hydraulic interaction. This study conducts isotropic compression and undrained shear tests on unsaturated compacted loess, simultaneously introducing the strength parameter η to enhance the Glasgow coupled model (GCM). The objective is to elucidate the hydraulic and mechanical coupling mechanism, where saturation increases under mechanical effects lead to strength degradation. The results show that saturation increases under mechanical effects improve the compressibility of the sample, and saturation has a direct impact on the stress–strain relationship. The increase in water content and confining pressure increases the trend of the critical state stress ratio M decreasing, and the strain softening trend increases. The compression of volume during shear tests increases the saturation, changes the hydraulic characteristics of loess, and affects the deformation and strength of loess. The modified GCM improves the applicability and prediction accuracy of unsaturated loess under the same initial state. Background: α‐1,6 Fucosyltransferase (FUT8) appears to play an essential role in the pathogenesis of renal fibrosis. However, it remained unknown whether FUT8 also contributed to renal fibrosis in immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN). In the present study, we explored the association of serum FUT8 activity with renal tubulointerstitial injury in IgAN patients. Methods: Serum FUT8 activity was measured in 135 IgAN patients and 68 healthy controls from January 2016 to December 2018. The relationships of serum FUT8 activity with clinical and pathological features were analyzed. Results: Relative to healthy controls, IgAN patients had significantly higher serum FUT8 activity and upregulation of renal FUT8 protein (p <.05). Among IgAN patients, there was a positive correlation of serum FUT8 activity with renal FUT8 protein expression (p <.05). Multivariable logistic regression analyses showed that serum FUT8 activity was significantly associated with serum creatinine and eGFR (p <.05). Based on a cut‐off value determined from ROC curve analysis, we divided IgAN patients into a low serum FUT8 activity group (≤12.2 pmol/h/mL, n = 40) and a high serum FUT8 activity group (>12.2 pmol/h/ml, n = 95). The high serum FUT8 activity group had a higher Oxford T score, increased inflammatory cell infiltration, more severe fibrosis and poor renal function (p <.05). In this paper, we, for the first time, apply angle diversity transmitters (ADTs) to enhance the performance of multiple-input multiple-output visible light communication (MIMO-VLC) systems. The ADT is designed to consist of one center light emitting diode (LED) and multiple inclined side LEDs. We calculate the line-of-sight (LOS) channel gain of the MIMO-VLC system using ADTs and further derive the average achievable rate of the system. We show that the average achievable rate is related to both the inclination angle of the side LEDs and the spacing between two adjacent ADTs in the MIMO-VLC system. Simulations are conducted to verify that the average achievable rate of the ADT-enhanced MIMO-VLC system can be maximized by setting the optimal inclination angle of the side LEDs and the optimal spacing between adjacent ADTs. The obtained results further show that the average achievable rate of the ADT-enhanced MIMO-VLC system can be greatly improved when there are more LEDs in each ADT. Specifically, a substantial 42.9% average achievable rate improvement can be achieved by using the optimized ADT in comparison to using a conventional non-angle diversity transmitter. The rapid growth of online data has made it very convenient for people to obtain information. However, it also leads to the problem of "information overload". Therefore, how to detect hot events from the massive amount of information has always been a problem. With the development of multimedia platforms, event detection has gradually developed from traditional single modality detection to multi-modality detection and is receiving increasing attention. The goal of multi-modality event detection is to discover events from a huge amount of online data with different data structures, such as texts, images and videos. These data represent real-world events from different perspectives so that they can provide more information about an event. In addition, event evolution is also a meaningful research direction; it models how events change dynamically over time and has great significance for event analysis. This paper comprehensively reviews the existing research on event detection and evolution. We first give a series of necessary definitions of event detection and evolution. Next, we discuss the techniques of data representation for event detection, including textual, visual, and multi-modality content. Finally, we review event evolution under multi-modality data. Thickness‐dependent chemical and physical properties have gained tremendous interest since the emergence of two‐dimensional (2D) materials. Despite attractive prospects, the thickness‐controlled synthesis of ultrathin nanosheets remains an outstanding challenge. Here, a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) route is reported to controllably synthesize high‐quality PtSe2 nanosheets with tunable thickness and explore their thickness‐dependent electronic and magnetotransport properties. Raman spectroscopic studies demonstrate all Eg, A1g, A2u, and Eu modes are red shift in thicker nanosheets. Electrical measurements demonstrate the 1.7 nm thick nanosheet is a semiconductor with room temperature field‐effect mobility of 66 cm2 V−1 s−1 and on/off ratio of 106. The 2.3–3.8 nm thick nanosheets show slightly gated modulation with high field‐effect mobility up to 324 cm2 V−1 s−1 at room‐temperature. When the thickness is over 3.8 nm, the nanosheets show metallic behavior with conductivity and breakdown current density up to 6.8 × 105 S m–1 and 6.9 × 107 A cm−2, respectively. Interestingly, magnetoresistance (MR) studies reveal magnetic orders exist in this intrinsically non‐magnetic material system, as manifested by the thickness‐dependent Kondo effect, where both metal to insulator transition and negative MR appear upon cooling. Together, these studies suggest that PtSe2 is an intriguing system for both developing novel functional electronics and conducting fundamental 2D magnetism study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

2D metallic transition metal dichalcogenides exhibit plenty of intriguing physical properties such as magnetism, charge density wave, and superconductivity resulting in worldwide attention from condensed‐matter physicists over the last few decades. Herein, the chemical synthesis and substrate temperature effect on the morphology of 2D vanadium disulfide (VS2) are reported. The synthesis is done by atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition using vanadium chloride (VCl3) precursor on SiO2/Si, fluorphlogopite mica, and hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN) substrates. The effect of substrate temperatures on the morphology of 2D VS2 nanosheets growth is investigated by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Large area VS2 films are attained when the substrate temperature is 650 °C whereas VS2 single crystals are obtained at 550 °C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
