The helicopter’s aircrew faces significant challenges in nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) environments due to limited protection devices and crowded space. To safeguard the security and ensure the comfort of the aircrew, the development of a helicopter NBC protection system is crucial. In this study, a helicopter NBC protection system was designed using a top-level architecture with an advanced system-integrated approach. Detailed configuration designs were developed for each subsystem, including air source pressurization, renewable NBC filtration ventilation, cabin temperature, and pressure control system. To verify the reliability of the adsorbent model, a Langmuir isotherm equation was adapted and validated using the experiment data. To verify the performance of the designed system, a dynamic simulation model was created using AMESIM. The findings demonstrate that the cabin temperature and pressure control system can greatly satisfy the demand for aircrews under various working conditions. Furthermore, the renewable NBC filtration ventilation system effectively adsorbs NBC substances and achieves onboard regeneration, thereby extending the working lifespan in contaminated environments. This study contributes to providing an innovative idea for helicopter NBC protection systems.

Milk allergy is one of the most common food allergies, affecting 6 % of young children, and β-lactoglobulin (β-LG) is the main milk allergen. Clostridium tyrobutyricum Z816 was selected for the degradation of β-LG, which was successfully reduced by about 90 % using permeabilized bacteria under the optimized conditions. The hydrolyzed peptides were identified by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and analyzed by molecular modeling, which indicated that C. tyrobutyricum Z816 could effectively degrade the antigenic epitopes of β-LG. Finally, the concentration and digestibility of β-LG in actual samples was quantified using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and gastrointestinal digestion simulation experiments. The results showed more than 92 % of β-LG in actual samples was hydrolyzed, and the gastric and total digestibility of whey protein isolate (WPI) was improved by 85.96 % and 64.51 %, respectively. Therefore, C. tyrobutyricum Z816 offers an effective method to degrade β-LG and reduce the occurrence of milk allergies, which has great significance for the development of hypoallergenic dairy products.

Lutein is critical for protecting the eye against light damage. The low solubility and high sensitivity of lutein to environmental stresses prevent its further application. The hypothesis is that the combination of one water-soluble antioxidant and one oil-soluble antioxidant will be beneficial to improve the stability of lutein emulsions. A low-energy method was performed to prepare lutein emulsions. The combination of a lipid-soluble antioxidant (propyl gallate or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and a water-soluble antioxidant (tea polyphenol or ascobic acid) were investigated for improving the lutein retention rates. It was shown that the highest lutein retention rate was achieved by using propyl gallate and tea polyphenol, 92.57%, at Day 7. It was proven that the lutein retention rates of emulsions with propyl gallate and tea polyphenol were 89.8%, 73.5% and 55.2% at 4 °C, 25 °C and 37 °C, respectively, at Day 28. The current study is helpful to prepare for the further application of lutein emulsions for ocular delivery.

Antibiotics are essential for treatments of bacterial infection and play important roles in the fields of aquaculture and animal husbandry. Antibiotics are accumulated in water and soil due to the excessive consumption and incomplete treatment of antibiotic wastewater. The accumulation of antibiotics in ecological systems leads to global environmental risks. The toxic effects of spiramycin (SPI), tigecycline (TGC), and amoxicillin (AMX) on Chlorella pyrenoidesa and Anabaena cylindrica were evaluated based on growth inhibition experiments, and determinations of ROS production and antioxidant enzyme activities (catalase, superoxide dismutase, and malondialdehyde). Half maximal effective concentrations (EC50) of TGC, SPI, and AMX for A. cylindrica were 62.52 μg/L, 38.40 μg/L, and 7.66 mg/L, respectively. Those were 6.20 mg/L, 4.58 mg/L, and > 2 g/L for C. pyrenoidesa, respectively. It was shown that A. cylindrica was much more sensitive to these antibiotics than C. pyrenoidesa. In addition, EC50 values of SPI and TGC were lower than that of AMX. It was indicated that SPI and TGC had higher toxic than AMX to C. pyrenoidesa and A. cylindrica. The current study is helpful to evaluating possible ecological risks of TGC, SPI, and AMX by green microalgae and cyanobacteria.

Background: Microalgae are highly efficient cellular factories that capture CO2 and are also alternative feedstock for biofuel production. Carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids are major biochemical components in microalgae. Carbohydrates or starch in microalgae are possible substrates in yeast fermentation for biofuel production. The carbon partitioning in microalgae could be regulated through environmental stresses, such as high concentration of CO2, high light intensity, and nitrogen starvation conditions. It is essential to obtain carbohydrate-rich microalgae via an optimal bioprocess strategy. Results: The carbohydrate accumulation in a CO2 tolerance strain, Chlorella sp. AE10, was investigated with a twostage process. The CO2 concentration, light intensity, and initial nitrogen concentration were changed drastically in both stages. During the first stage, it was cultivated over 3 days under 1% CO2, a photon flux of 100 μmol m-2 s-1, and 1.5 g L-1 NaNO3. It was cultivated under 10% CO2, 1000 μmol m-2 s-1 , and 0.375 g L-1 NaNO3 during the second stage. In addition, two operation modes were compared. At the beginning of the second stage of mode 2, cells were diluted to 0.1 g L-1 and there was no cell dilution in mode 1. The total carbohydrate productivity of mode 2 was increased about 42% compared with that of mode 1. The highest total carbohydrate content and the highest starch content of mode 2 were 77.6% (DW) and 60.3% (DW) at day 5, respectively. The starch productivity was 0.311 g L-1 day-1 and the total carbohydrate productivity was 0.421 g L-1 day-1 in 6 days. Conclusions: In this study, a novel two-stage process was proposed for improving carbohydrate and starch accumulation in Chlorella sp. AE10. Despite cell dilution at the beginning of the second stage, environmental stress conditions of high concentration of CO2, high light intensity, and limited nitrogen concentration at the second stage were critical for carbohydrate and starch accumulation. Although the cells were diluted, the growths were not inhibited and the carbohydrate productivity was improved. Motivation: Gene deletion and overexpression are critical technologies for designing or improving the metabolic flux distribution of microbes. Some algorithms including flux balance analysis (FBA) and minimization of metabolic adjustment (MOMA) predict a flux distribution from a stoichiometric matrix in the mutants in which some metabolic genes are deleted or non-functional, but there are few algorithms that predict how a broad range of genetic modifications, such as over- and underexpression of metabolic genes, alters the phenotypes of the mutants at the metabolic flux level. Results: To overcome such existing limitations, we develop a novel algorithm that predicts the flux distribution of the mutants with a broad range of genetic modification, based on elementary mode analysis. It is denoted as genetic modification of flux (GMF), which couples two algorithms that we have developed: modified control effective flux (mCEF) and enzyme control flux (ECF). mCEF is proposed based on CEF to estimate the gene expression patterns in genetically modified mutants in terms of specific biological functions. GMF is demonstrated to predict the flux distribution of not only gene deletion mutants, but also the mutants with underexpressed and overexpressed genes in Escherichia coli and Corynebacterium glutamicum. This achieves breakthrough in the a priori flux prediction of a broad range of genetically modified mutants.
