Local seismic response analysis and microzonation studies represent fundamental tools for assessment and mitigation of the seismic risk in urban areas and cultural heritage sites. In this work, in the framework of the H2020-RISE "STABLE - Structural stABLity risk assEsment" project, local seismic response analysis by an integrated approach was performed in Strovolos municipality located in the central part of the island of Cyprus, within the Nicosia District, built on the alluvial deposits of the Mesaoria plain and affected by medium-high regional seismic hazard. An assessment of the basic seismic hazard for different return periods was, firstly, performed by a combined probabilistic and deterministic approach. Then, the reconstruction of the engineering geological model of the subsoil, using available borehole logs, geotechnical test results and specific geological field survey was carried out; seismic ambient noise measurements, aimed to preliminarily identify areas with possible local amplification, were carried out as well. Finally, 1D numerical simulations, on seismostratigraphic columns representative of the engineering geological subsoil model, were performed through the software Strata to quantify the local seismic response of the site. The elastic response spectra obtained, for each analysed return period, showed a significant increase of the basic seismic motion which could be considered for possible interventions suitable to improve the buildings performance in the case of seismic shaking in the Strovolos settlement area. The "Vittoriano" monument, dedicated to king Vittorio Emanuele II, is one of the most famous cultural heritage landmarks in Rome (Italy), even because it hosts the Tomb of the unknown soldier, monument to the Italian fallen in wars. It was designed by the architect Giuseppe Sacconi at the end of 19th century and since the beginning of its construction, it has been affected by cracks and deformations. In the last years, such phenomena have become more evident, especially on the western side of the building. With the aim of understanding the causes of the deformation process and making a diagnosis of the soil-structure interaction of the Monument, a specific project has been undertaken between CERI Sapienza and the Lazio Museum Network. Satellite ADInSAR was performed to infer the recent deformational history of the main parts of the monument, by using medium and high-resolution SAR images acquired in double orbital geometry (ascending and descending) and covering the last two decades. Through the support of selected geological and lithotechnical data it was possible to interpret the deformational dynamics of the Vittoriano. The overall investigations allowed to better define the volume and the structures that have been involved in the deformation mechanisms, which is currently driving the overall process, in order to address effective mitigation measures. They are capable of backward analysing the deformational process, reconstructing the evolution of a phenomenon and above all capable of easily investigating large areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to describe the seismic-driven multi-hazard scenario of the Lake Campotosto artificial basin (Abruzzo Region, Central Italy), and it can represent a preparatory study for a quantitative multi-hazard analysis. A comprehensive multi-hazard scenario considers all the effects that can occur following the base ground shaking, providing a holistic approach to assessing the real hazard potential and helping to improve management of disaster mitigation. The study area might be affected by a complex earthquake-induced chain of geologic hazards, such as the seismic shaking, the surface faulting of the Gorzano Mt. Fault, which is very close to one of the three dams that form the Lake Campotosto, and by the earthquake-triggered landslides of different sizes and typologies. These hazards were individually and qualitatively analyzed, using data from an engineering-geological survey and a geomechanical classification of the rock mass. With regard to the seismic shaking, a quantitative evaluation of the seismic response of the Poggio Cancelli valley, in the northern part of Lake Campotosto, was performed, highlighting different seismic amplification phenomena due to morphologic and stratigraphic features.
