Abstract Vertical field effect transistor (VFET), in which the semiconductor is sandwiched between source/drain electrodes and the channel length is simply determined by the semiconductor thickness, has demonstrated promising potential for short channel devices. However, despite extensive efforts over the past decade, scalable methods to fabricate ultra-short channel VFETs remain challenging. Here, we demonstrate a layer-by-layer transfer process of large-scale indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) semiconductor arrays and metal electrodes, and realize large-scale VFETs with ultra-short channel length and high device performance. Within this process, the oxide semiconductor could be pre-deposited on a sacrificial wafer, and then physically released and sandwiched between metals, maintaining the intrinsic properties of ultra-scaled vertical channel. Based on this lamination process, we realize 2 inch-scale VFETs with channel length down to 4 nm, on-current over 800 A/cm2, and highest on-off ratio up to 2 × 105, which is over two orders of magnitude higher compared to control samples without laminating process. Our study not only represents the optimization of VFETs performance and scalability at the same time, but also offers a method of transfer large-scale oxide arrays, providing interesting implication for ultra-thin vertical devices.

Abstract Beige fat activation involves a fuel switch to fatty acid oxidation following chronic cold adaptation. Mitochondrial acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 1 (ACSL1) localizes in the mitochondria and plays a key role in fatty acid oxidation; however, the regulatory mechanism of the subcellular localization remains poorly understood. Here, we identify an endosomal trafficking component sortilin (encoded by Sort1) in adipose tissues that shows dynamic expression during beige fat activation and facilitates the translocation of ACSL1 from the mitochondria to the endolysosomal pathway for degradation. Depletion of sortilin in adipocytes results in an increase of mitochondrial ACSL1 and the activation of AMPK/PGC1α signaling, thereby activating beige fat and preventing high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity and insulin resistance. Collectively, our findings indicate that sortilin controls adipose tissue fatty acid oxidation by substrate fuel selection during beige fat activation and provides a potential targeted approach for the treatment of metabolic diseases.

Abstract The purpose of this work is to explore the properties of the lignin-derived amine-free photoinitiating systems (PISs) during the curing process. Four novel hydrogen donors (HD1, HD2, HD3, and HD4) derived from lignin α-O-4 structural were designed and synthesized by simple methods, and their low C–H bond dissociation energies on methylene were determined by molecular orbitals theory. Four experimental groups using CQ (camphorquinone)/HD PIs formulated with Bis-GMA/TEGDMA (70 w%/30 w%) were compared to CQ/EDB (ethyl 4-dimethylamino benzoate) system. The photopolymerization profiles and double bond conversion rate was tracked by FTIR experiments; the color bleaching ability of the samples and color aging test assay were performed using color indexes measurements; The cytotoxicity of the samples was also compared to EDB related systems. All of the experimental groups with new HDs were compared to the control group with EDB by statistical analysis. Compared to CQ/EDB system, new lignin-derived hydrogen donors combined with CQ showed comparable or even better performances in polymerization initiation to form resin samples, under a blue dental LED in air. Excellent color bleaching property was observed with the new HDs. Aging tests and cytotoxicity examination of the resin were performed, indicating the new lignin compounds to be efficient hydrogen donors for amine-free CQ-based photo-initiating system. Novel lignin α-O-4 derived hydrogen donors are promising for further usage in light-curing materials.

Abstract Background This case report highlights the importance of standardized and fully digital sequential treatment in complex occlusal rehabilitation cases. To fully resolve the patient’s dental needs, such cases often require multidisciplinary interventions including periodontal therapy, endodontic treatment, anterior esthetics, implant restoration, and prosthetic rehabilitation. A fully digital workflow (including facial scanners, intraoral scanners, jaw motion tracking systems, virtual articulators, and computer-aided design software) streamlined the complex treatment, enhancing workflow simplicity, efficiency, visibility, and precision. Case presentation The patient presented with decreased chewing efficiency of the upper and lower prostheses, along with unsatisfactory esthetic appearance of the anterior teeth. After physical examination and radiological assessment, this complex occlusal rehabilitation case required periodontal therapy, anterior esthetic enhancement, implant restoration, and fixed prosthetic rehabilitation. Therefore, a fully digital workflow was adopted. Full-crown prostheses were placed on teeth 13, 23, and 34; a fixed bridge encompassed positions 32 to 42, and single implant crowns were placed on teeth 35 and 36. Implant-supported fixed bridges were constructed for teeth 12 to 22 and 44 to 46, anchored by implants at teeth 12, 22, 44, and 46. All definitive prostheses were fabricated from zirconia ceramics, chosen for their durability and esthetic characteristics. Finally, restorations with satisfactory esthetic and functional characteristics were seated, preserving the tooth and its supporting structures. During treatment and follow-up, the T-scan occlusal analysis system was utilized to continuously monitor and guide the adjustment of occlusal distribution across the patient’s dental arches. After 18 months, the patient remains satisfied with the definitive restorations. Conclusions This report is intended to help dentists understand and implement standardized and fully digital workflows during the management of complex occlusal rehabilitation cases; it may also facilitate harmonious integration of esthetic and functional characteristics.

Purpose This study aimed to evaluate changes in ultrafast pulse wave velocity (ufPWV) in individuals with arterial stiffness and subclinical atherosclerosis (subAS), and to provide cutoff values. Methods This retrospective study recruited 231 participants, including 67 patients with subAS. The pulse wave velocity was measured at the beginning and end of systole (PWV-BS and PWVES, respectively) using ultrafast ultrasonography to assess arterial stiffness. The right and left common carotid arteries were measured separately, and laboratory metabolic parameters were also collected. Participants were balanced between groups using propensity score matching (PSM) at a 1:1 ratio, adjusting for age, sex, and waist-to-hip ratio as potential confounders. Cutoff values of ufPWV for monitoring subAS were determined via receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results PWV-ES, unlike PWV-BS, was higher in the subAS subgroup than in the subAS-free group after PSM (all P0.05). Conclusion PWV-ES measured using ultrafast ultrasonography was significantly higher in individuals with subAS than in those without. Specific PWV-ES cutoff values showed potential for predicting an increased risk of subAS.

ABSTRACT Importance Postzygotic mutations in the GNAQ/GNA11 genes, which encode the G‐protein nucleotide binding protein alpha subunits, have been identified in patients with phakomatosis pigmentovascularis (PPV). However, little is known about the Chinese population. Objective To identify pathogenic mutations in pediatric patients with PPV within the Chinese population. Methods We performed whole‐exome sequencing (WES) using skin lesion tissues from pediatric patients diagnosed with PPV. Additionally, ultradeep‐targeted sequencing was conducted to validate the somatic mutations. A genotype‐phenotype correlation was analyzed by integrating data from previous reports with the findings of the present study. Results Thirteen patients were enrolled, all diagnosed with the cesioflammea type of PPV, except for one patient with an unclassifiable type. We identified somatic GNA11 c.547C>T (p.R183C) variant in seven patients and GNAQ c.548G>A (p.R183Q) in four patients, with low allelic fractions ranging from 2.1% to 8.6% through ultradeep sequencing. Besides, a GNAQ c.548G>A (p.R183Q) variant was detected through targeted sequencing in one of two patients who did not exhibit detectable variants via WES. The genotype‐phenotype correlation analysis, involving 15 patients with a GNA11 variant and 10 with a GNAQ variant, revealed that facial capillary malformation (87% vs. 50%, P = 0.075) and ocular melanocytosis (80% vs. 40%, P = 0.087) appeared to be more frequent in patients with GNA11 mutation compared to those with GNAQ mutations. All four patients diagnosed with cesiomarmorata type or overlapping cesioflammea and cesiomarmorata type PPV carried the GNA11 variant. Interpretation Our study demonstrated that the majority of PPV patients in the Chinese population carried a postzygotic variant of GNAQ/GNA11, thus further confirming the pathogenic role of GNAQ/GNA11 mosaicism in the development of PPV cesioflammea type.

Abstract Agricultural green production technology (AGPT) is essential for the sustainable development of agriculture, yet adoption rates among farmers are often low due to limited access to education and information. Based on the extended technology acceptance model, this study takes Liaoning, a major agricultural province in China, as a representative region to explore how digital multimedia influences the adoption of AGPT by farmers. The findings show that the perceived ease of use of these technologies significantly enhances farmers' intentions to adopt, while perceived risks detract from these intentions. Although digital multimedia effectively promotes AGPT by improving its perceived ease of use and usefulness, its role in mitigating perceived risks is minimal. Based on these results, we recommend that the government improve the quality of information on digital platforms by involving experts in the field and offer specific digital marketing training to potential users to increase the adoption of sustainable agricultural technologies.

Abstract Background An increasing number of technologies are provided to reduce the burden of older adults’ informal caregivers. However, less is known about the effects and the mechanism of technology to work on burden. This review is to evaluate the effectiveness of technology-based interventions (TBI) in alleviating the burden of older adults’ informal caregivers and to distinguish its effective mechanism via group disparities. Methods A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials studies (RCTs) has been conducted. Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycINFO, WANFANG, CNKI, CQVIP databases, Cochrane Library Trials, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched for trial studies and registry in both English and Chinese published from January 1990 to October 2022. Reviewers independently screened the articles and trials, conducted quality assessments, and extracted the data. All processes were guided by Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Risk of bias of the studies was evaluated by the Cochrane Systematic Review Handbook. The meta-analysis was conducted by RevMan 5.13. Subgroup analyses, sensitivity analyses, publication bias were also conducted. Results A total of 11,095 RCTs were initially screened, and 14 trials representing 1010 informal caregivers were included finally. This review proved TBI effective in reducing caregiving burden older adults. Subgroup analysis showed effects of TBI differed by interventions on control group and medical conditions of care recipients. Conclusion TBI is an effective way to alleviate the burden on informal caregivers of aging people. Interventions for control groups and medical conditions of care-recipients are significant factors in effective interventions. Future researches could include more trials with high-quality or to explore more targeted aging groups, modalities of TBI, or caregiver outcomes. Trial registration The review protocol was registered on PROSPERO [CRD42021277865].

Abstract Background Sepsis-induced small-intestinal injury is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Our previous study and other papers have shown that HIF-1α has a protective effect on intestinal mucosal injury in septic rats. The purpose of this study is to further verify the protective effect of HIF-1α on intestinal mucosa and its molecular mechanism in vitro experiments. Methods Caco-2 cells were selected and experiment was divided into 2 parts. Part I: HIF-1α activator and inhibitor were used to treat lipopolysacchrides (LPS)-stimulated Caco-2 cells respectively, to explore the effect of HIF-1α on LPS induced Caco-2 cell epithelial model; Part II: mTOR activator or inhibitor combined with or without HIF-1α activator, inhibitor to treat LPS-stimulated Caco-2 cells respectively, and then the molecular mechanism of HIF-1α reducing LPS induced Caco-2 cell epithelial model damage was detected. Results The results showed that HIF-1α activator decreased the permeability and up regulated tight junction (TJ) expression, while HIF-1α inhibitor had the opposite effect with the HIF-1α activator. mTOR activation increased, while mTOR inhibition decreased HIF-1α protein and expression of its downstream target molecules, which can be attenuated by HIF-1α activator or inhibitor. Conclusion This study once again confirmed that HIF-1α alleviates LPS-induced mucosal epithelial model damage through P70S6K signalling pathway. It is of great value to explore whether HIF-2α plays crucial roles in the regulation of mucosal epithelial model functions in the future.

Abstract Objectives To determine the mandibular anatomical structures by observing cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) from multiple angles. Materials and methods This retrospective study analyzed 1593 consecutive CBCT images. Ultimately, 95 CBCTs met the inclusion criteria. The mandibular, inferior lingual, and bony canals at the tooth apex were studied by multi-angle observation CBCT. Descriptive statistics were used for statistical analysis. Results It is beneficial to further observe the anastomosis of the mandibular, lingual, and mandibular canals when the course of the mandibular lingual canal is observed on CBCT cross-section. The frequency of the inferior lingual canal anastomosis with the mandibular canal was 43.2% (95% confidence interval (CI) 33, 53.3) in the sample. The mental foramen was located below the long axis of the tooth in a few samples, with an occurrence rate of 29.5% (95% CI 20.1, 38.8). The occurrence rate of various types of the bony canal at the apex of the tooth in canines, first premolars, second premolars, first molars, and second molars under the root apex was recorded through the multi-angle observation of the dental volume reformat (DVR) and three-dimensional (3D) levels in CBCT. Conclusion This study demonstrates the utility of CBCT imaging in examining mandibular anatomy from multiple angles, providing valuable insights into anatomical variations, and enhancing our understanding of mandibular structures. This research emphasizes the crucial role of meticulous CBCT examination in precisely identifying and understanding key anatomical structures, ultimately reducing the risk of surgical complications. Critical relevance statement By examining cone-beam computed tomography scans from various perspectives, it is possible to determine the precise position of anatomical structures within the jaw. This allows for a more accurate assessment, reducing the risk of harm to these structures during treatment. Key points • It is crucial to utilize image data effectively to enhance the comprehension of human anatomy. • We captured detailed images of the mandible from different angles and orientations utilizing cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). • This study provides essential anatomical information for procedural planning to ensure optimal outcomes and patient safety. Summary: Supernumerary teeth are common developmental anomalies of dentition. However, the factors and mechanisms driving their formation remain largely unknown. Here, we report that conditional knockout of Fst, encoding an antagonist for the transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) signaling pathway, in both oral epithelium and mesenchyme of mice (FstCKO) led to supernumerary upper incisor teeth, arising from the lingual dental epithelium of the native teeth and preceded by an enlarged and split lingual cervical loop. Fst-deficiency greatly activated TGF-β signaling in developing maxillary incisor teeth, associated with increased epithelium cell proliferation. Moreover, FstCKO teeth exhibited increased expression of Tbx1, Sp6, and Sox2, which were identified as direct targets of TGF-β/SMAD2 signaling. Finally, we show that upregulation of Tbx1 in response to Fst-deficiency was largely responsible for the formation of extra teeth in FstCKO mice. Taken together, our investigation indicates a novel role for Fst in controlling murine tooth number by restricting TGF-β signaling.

BackgroundNatural infection or vaccination have provided robust immune defense against SARS-CoV-2 invasion, nevertheless, Omicron variants still successfully cause breakthrough infection, and the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood.MethodsSequential blood samples were continuously collected at different time points from 252 volunteers who were received the CanSino Ad5-nCoV (n= 183) vaccine or the Sinovac CoronaVac inactivated vaccine (n= 69). The anti-SARS-CoV-2 prototype and Omicron BA.5.2 as well as XBB.1.16 variant neutralizing antibodies (Nab) in sera were detected by ELISA. Sera were also used to measure pseudo and live virus neutralization assay. The associations between the anti-prototype Nab levels and different HLA-ABC alleles were analyzed using artificial intelligence (AI)-deep learning techniques. The frequency of B cells in PBMCs was investigated by flow cytometry assay (FACs).ResultsIndividuals carrying the HLA-B*15 allele manifested the highest concentrations of anti-SARS-CoV-2 prototype Nab after vax administration. Unfortunately, these volunteers are more susceptible to Omicron BA.5.2 breakthrough infection due to their sera have poorer anti-BA.5.2 Nab and lower levels of viral neutralization efficacy. FACs confirmed that a significant decrease in CD19+CD27+RBD+ memory B cells in these HLA-B*15 population compared to other cohorts. Importantly, generating lower concentrations of cross-reactive anti-XBB.1.16 Nab post-BA.5.2 infection caused HLA-B*15 individuals to be further infected by XBB.1.16 variant.ConclusionsIndividuals carrying the HLA-B*15 allele respond better to COVID-19 vax including the CanSino Ad5-nCoV and the Sinovac CoronaVac inactivated vaccines, but are more susceptible to Omicron variant infection, thus, a novel vaccine against this population is necessary for COVID-19 pandemic control in the future.

The monolithically integrated self-driven photoelectric detector (PD) with the light-emitting diode (LED) epitaxial structure completely relies on the built-in electric field in the multi-quantum wells region to separate the photogenerated carriers. Here, we propose a novel superlattices–electron barrier layer structure to expand the potential field region and enhance the detection capability of the integrated PD. The PD exhibits a record-breaking photo-to-dark current ratio of 5.14 × 107, responsivity of 110.3 A/W, and specific detectivity of 2.2 × 1013 Jones at 0 V bias, respectively. A clear open-eyed diagram of the monolithically integrated chip, including the PD, LED, and waveguide, is realized under a high-speed communication rate of 150 Mbps. The obtained transient response (rise/decay) time of 2.16/2.28 ns also illustrates the outstanding transient response capability of the integrated chip. The on-chip optical communication system is built to achieve the practical video signals transmission application, which is a formidable contender for the core module of future large-scale photonic integrated circuits.

Sustaining crop production and food security are threatened by a burgeoning world population and adverse environmental conditions. Traditional breeding methods for vegetable crops are time-consuming, laborious, and untargeted, often taking several years to develop new and improved varieties. The challenges faced by a long breeding cycle need to be overcome. The speed breeding (SB) approach is broadly employed in crop breeding, which greatly shortens breeding cycles and facilities plant growth to obtain new, better-adapted crop varieties as quickly as possible. Potential opportunities are offered by SB in plant factories, where optimal photoperiod, light quality, light intensity, temperature, CO2 concentration, and nutrients are precisely manipulated to enhance the growth of horticultural vegetable crops, holding promise to surmount the long-standing problem of lengthy crop breeding cycles. Additionally, integrated with other breeding technologies, such as genome editing, genomic selection, and high-throughput genotyping, SB in plant factories has emerged as a smart and promising platform to hasten generation turnover and enhance the efficiency of breeding in vegetable crops. This review considers the pivotal opportunities and challenges of SB in plant factories, aiming to accelerate plant generation turnover and improve vegetable crops with precision and efficiency.

Objective: This study aims to explore the impact of Nesfatin-1 on type 2 diabetic erectile dysfunction (T2DMED) and its underlying mechanism in regulating the phenotypic switching of corpus cavernosum smooth muscle cells (CCSMCs). Methods: Twenty-four 4-week-old male C57 wild-type mice were randomly assigned to the control group, model group, and Nesfatin-1 treatment group. Monitoring included body weight, blood glucose levels, and penile cavernous pressure (ICP). Histochemistry and Western blot analyses were conducted to assess the expressions of α-SMA, OPN, and factors related to the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. CCSMCs were categorized into the control group, high glucose and high oleic acid group (GO group), Nesfatin-1 treatment group (GO + N group), sildenafil positive control group (GO + S group), and PI3K inhibitor group (GO + N + E group). Changes in phenotypic markers, cell morphology, and the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway were observed in each group. Results: (1) Nesfatin-1 significantly ameliorated the body size, body weight, blood glucose, glucose tolerance, and insulin resistance in T2DMED mice. (2) Following Nesfatin-1 treatment, the ICP/MSBP ratio and the peak of the ICP curve demonstrated a significant increase. (3) Nesfatin-1 significantly enhanced smooth muscle and reduced collagen fibers in the corpus cavernosum. (4) Nesfatin-1 notably increased α-SMA expression and decreased OPN expression in CCSMCs. (5) Nesfatin-1 elevated PI3K, p-AKT/AKT, and p-mTOR/mTOR levels in penile cavernous tissue. Conclusions: Nesfatin-1 not only effectively improves body weight and blood glucose levels in diabetic mice but also enhances erectile function and regulates the phenotypic switching of corpus cavernosum smooth muscle. The potential mechanism involves Nesfatin-1 activating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway to induce the conversion of CCSMCs to a contractile phenotype.

Abstract Background The Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials (COMET) working group proposed core outcome sets (COS) to address the heterogeneity in outcome measures in clinical studies. According to the recommendations of COMET, performing systematic reviews (SRs) usually was the first step for COS development. However, the SRs that serve as a basis for COS are not specifically appraised by organizations such as COMET regarding their quality. Here, we investigated the status of SRs related to development of COS and evaluated their methodological quality. Methods We conducted a search on PubMed to identify SRs related to COS development published from inception to May 2022. We qualitatively summarized the disease included in SR topics, and the studies included in the SRs. We evaluated the methodological quality of the SRs using AMSTAR 2.0 and compared the overall quality of SRs with and without protocols using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results We included 175 SRs from 23 different countries or regions, and they mainly focused on five diseases: musculoskeletal system or connective tissue disease (n = 19, 10.86%), injury, poisoning, or certain other consequences of external causes (n = 18, 10.29%), digestive system disease (n = 16, 9.14%), nervous system disease (n = 15, 8.57%), and genitourinary system disease (n = 15, 8.57%). Although 88.00% of SRs included randomized controlled trials (RCTs), only a few SRs (23.38%) employed appropriate tools to assess the risk of bias in RCTs. The assessment results on the basis of AMSTAR 2.0 indicated that most SRs (93.71%) were rated as ‘’critically low’’ to ‘’low’’ in terms of overall confidence. Abstract Background Albuminuria, the presence of excess of protein in urine, is a well-known risk factor for early kidney damage among diabetic/prediabetic patients. There is a complex interaction between physical activity (PA) and albuminuria. However, the relationship of specific-domain PA and albuminuria remained obscure. Methods Albuminuria was defined as urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR) > 30 mg/g. PA was self-reported by participants and classified into transportation-related PA (TPA), occupation-related PA (OPA), and leisure-time PA (LTPA). Weighted logistic regression was conducted to compute the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Restricted cubic spline (RCS) was used to evaluate the dose–response of PA domains with the risk of albuminuria. Results A total of 6739 diabetic/prediabetic patients (mean age: 56.52 ± 0.29 years) were enrolled in our study, including 3181 (47.20%) females and 3558 (52.80%) males. Of them, 1578 (23.42%) were identified with albuminuria, and 5161(76.58%) were without albuminuria. Diabetic/prediabetic patients who adhered the PA guidelines for total PA had a 22% decreased risk of albuminuria (OR = 0.78, 95%CI 0.64–0.95), and those met the PA guidelines for LTPA had a 28% decreased of albuminuria (OR = 0.72, 95%CI 0.57–0.92). However, OPA and TPA were both not associated with decreased risk of albuminuria. RCS showed linear relationship between the risk of albuminuria with LTPA. Conclusions Meeting the PA guideline for LTPA, but not OPA and TPA, was inversely related to the risk of albuminuria among diabetic/prediabetic patients. Additionally, achieving more than 300 min/week of LTPA conferred the positive effects in reducing albuminuria among diabetic/prediabetic patients.

The Ni60/WC/La2O3 composite coatings with 0∼2 wt% La2O3 content were prepared on Cr12MoV substrates by laser cladding. The microstructure and tribological properties of the coatings were studied in detail. The results revealed that WC particles were partially dissolved to form new carbides with lower hardness. The dissolution mechanisms were consisted of dissolution-diffusion, diffusion-nucleation, and penetration-dissolution-nucleation. The wear mechanism of C0∼C3 coatings with La2O3 contents of no more than 1.5% was dominated by oxidative wear, while that of C4 coating with a La2O3 content of 2% was dominated by abrasive wear. The best performance of the coatings was obtained at a La2O3 content of 1.5 wt%. The hardness reached 1024.3 HV0.2, which was 3.64 times higher than that of the substrate. And the wear loss was 2.5 mg, which was 88.8% lower than that of the substrate.

Abstract Background Low-quality sleep and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can result in series of chronic diseases. Healthy diet has been considered as an effective and simple strategy to optimize sleep quality. However, current evidence on the correlation of dietary composite antioxidant intake with sleep health remained obscure. Aim of the study To determine the relationship of composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) and sleep health. Methods Cross-sectional analyses were based on National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005–2008. Dietary consumption was assessed by trained staff using 24-h diet recall method and CDAI was calculated based on previous validated approach that included six antioxidants. Sleep-related outcomes were self-reported by a set of questionnaires and classified into OSA, day sleepiness, and insufficient sleep. Weighted logistic regression was conducted to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Restricted cubic spline (RCS) regressions were also used to evaluate the dose-response of CDAI and three sleep-related outcomes. Results A total of 7274 subjects included (mean age: 46.97 years) were enrolled in our study, including 3658 were females (52.54%) and 3616 were males (47.46%). Of them, 70.6%, 29.51%, and 35.57% of the subjects reported that they had OSA, day sleepiness and insufficient sleep, respectively. Logistic regression showed the highest quartile of CDAI was inversely associated with the risk of OSA (OR: 0.69, 95%CI: 0.49–0.97), day sleepiness (OR: 0.64, 95%CI: 0.44–0.94) and insufficient sleep (OR: 0.68, 95%CI: 0.50–0.92) compared with the lowest quartile. RCS showed linear relationship of CDAI and insufficient sleep but non-linear relationship of CDAI with OSA and day sleepiness. Conclusions Our results show that CDAI was non-linearly associated with lower risk of OSA and day sleepiness whereas a linear inverse association between CDAI and insufficient sleep was observed. These findings implicate that combined intake of antioxidants could be a promising and effective approach to optimize sleep quality for public.

Indoor environments are considered challenging due to their perceived degradation. This is attributed to both the homogeneity of indoor scene structures and the scarcity of feature points, particularly in long corridor environments. Additionally, low-resolution 3D laser scanners may not effectively capture the real information of the indoor environment. To address these issues, this paper proposes a tightly coupled SLAM method based on factor graph optimization for laser-inertial fusion. Firstly, a dynamic feature point extraction method is designed to adaptively adjust the feature extraction quantity by detecting indoor degradation, constructing rich and robust feature constraints to enhance pose estimation accuracy. Next, robust and precise SLAM in indoor environments is achieved through factor graph optimization. Finally, validation is conducted on the KITTI dataset and in real scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits superior accuracy, real-time performance, and robustness compared to ALOAM, LeGO-LOAM, FLOAM, and LIO-SAM in terms of localization, mapping precision, and global consistency. The method effectively reduces cumulative errors and ensures the global consistency of map construction.

Abstract Under the new power system, a high proportion of new energy is widely connected to the power grid, and it is necessary to increase investment in centralized and distributed energy storage, flexible resource regulation, and transmission and distribution grids, resulting in an increase in power system costs. The current electricity capacity price does not reflect the economic value of the added system adequately, and flexible capacity is needed to ensure the safety of the power grid under the new power system. In the context of the transformation of the new power system and investment function, it is increasingly difficult to recover the costs according to the traditional electricity price. It is necessary to establish a coordinated development mechanism for the electricity capacity price and the electricity price that recovers the fixed costs according to the investment function to ensure a reasonable return on investment in flexible resources and to provide effective investment signals. Therefore, this work first studied and proposed a mechanism for the formation of capacity and electricity prices based on the proportion of allowed income and fixed costs at different voltage levels and calculates the level of electricity capacity (demand) prices and electricity consumption prices. Then, using the BARY curve, genetic algorithm, and clustering of user load rates, a collaborative mechanism between the electricity capacity price and the electricity price was designed. With the goal of optimizing the electricity capacity price and considering constraints such as the flexibility and reliability of the new power system, the ratio of the capacity cost allocated to the electricity capacity price by voltage level users to the capacity cost allocated to the electricity price was calculated, and the optimal combination of electricity capacity price and electricity price for different load‐rate intervals was determined. Finally, the effectiveness of the model was verified through numerical simulations. On the basis of the investment characteristics of the new power system, suggestions for a capacity pricing mechanism under the new power system were proposed from the perspectives of transfer capacity function, transfer electricity function, grid reliability, and environmental and social benefits.

Moxibustion has a long history of use as a traditional Chinese medicine therapy. Infrared radiation is an important and effective factor in moxibustion. Instead of the time-consuming and laborious process of holding moxa sticks in the hand, moxibustion devices are commonly used as moxibustion methods and tools in modern times. With the publication of the international standard of moxibustion devices (ISO18666:2021, Traditional Chinese Medicine - General requirements of moxibustion devices) published, moxibustion devices of various materials are now sold in the pharmacies and online stores. However, the influence of moxibustion devices on the therapeutic effect of moxibustion has not been studied. Therefore, this research was aimed to evaluate the infrared radiation of moxibustion devices, in order to select the moxibustion device that delivered infrared radiation closest to that of moxa stick combustion. The combination of combustion stability and infrared radiation intensity showed that cardboard tubes and silicone were better materials for moxibustion devices. In the mid-far infrared wave band, the moxibustion devices made from cardboard tubes and silica gels can better maintain the thermal effect generated by moxibustion and enable it to be more easily absorbed by the human body. The infrared radiation intensity of the cardboard moxibustion devices increased rapidly and steadily and could be maintained for the longest time. In conclusion, cardboard tubes are the better material for moxibustion devices with respect to infrared radiation.

BackgroundThe human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a critical global health issue, with a pressing need for effective diagnostic and monitoring tools.MethodologyThis study explored distinctions in salivary metabolome among healthy individuals, individuals with HIV, and those receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Utilizing LC–MS/MS for exhaustive metabolomics profiling, we analyzed 90 oral saliva samples from individuals with HIV, categorized by CD4 count levels in the peripheral blood.ResultsOrthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) and other analyses underscored significant metabolic alterations in individuals with HIV, especially in energy metabolism pathways. Notably, post-HAART metabolic profiles indicated a substantial presence of exogenous metabolites and changes in amino acid pathways like arginine, proline, and lysine degradation. Key metabolites such as citric acid, L-glutamic acid, and L-histidine were identified as potential indicators of disease progression or recovery. Differential metabolite selection and functional enrichment analysis, combined with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and random forest analyses, pinpointed potential biomarkers for different stages of HIV infection. Additionally, our research examined the interplay between oral metabolites and microorganisms such as herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1), bacteria, and fungi in individuals with HIV, revealing crucial interactions.ConclusionThis investigation seeks to contribute understanding into the metabolic shifts occurring in HIV infection and following the initiation of HAART, while tentatively proposing novel avenues for diagnostic and treatment monitoring through salivary metabolomics.

Abstract The realization of high quality (0001) GaN on Si(100) is paramount importance for the monolithic integration of Si‐based integrated circuits and GaN‐enabled optoelectronic devices. Nevertheless, thorny issues including large thermal mismatch and distinct crystal symmetries typically bring about uncontrollable polycrystalline GaN formation with considerable surface roughness on standard Si(100). Here a breakthrough of high‐quality single‐crystalline GaN film on polycrystalline SiO2/Si(100) is presented by quasi van der Waals epitaxy and fabricate the monolithically integrated photonic chips. The in‐plane orientation of epilayer is aligned throughout a slip and rotation of high density AlN nuclei due to weak interfacial forces, while the out‐of‐plane orientation of GaN can be guided by multi‐step growth on transfer‐free graphene. For the first time, the monolithic integration of light‐emitting diode (LED) and photodetector (PD) devices are accomplished on CMOS‐compatible SiO2/Si(100). Remarkably, the self‐powered PD affords a rapid response below 250 µs under adjacent LED radiation, demonstrating the responsivity and detectivity of 2.01 × 105 A/W and 4.64 × 1013 Jones, respectively. This work breaks a bottleneck of synthesizing large area single‐crystal GaN on Si(100), which is anticipated to motivate the disruptive developments in Si‐integrated optoelectronic devices.

The metalloid arsenic, known for its toxic properties, is widespread presence in the environment. Our previous research has confirmed that prolonged exposure to arsenic can lead to liver fibrosis injury in rats, while the precise pathogenic mechanism still requires further investigation. In the past few years, the Nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome has been found to play a pivotal role in the occurrence and development of liver injury. In this study, we administered varying doses of sodium arsenite (NaAsO2) and 10 mg/kg.bw MCC950 (a particular tiny molecular inhibitor targeting NLRP3) to Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats for 36 weeks to explore the involvement of NLRP3 inflammasome in NaAsO2-induced liver injury. The findings suggested that prolonged exposure to NaAsO2 resulted in pyroptosis in liver tissue of SD rats, accompanied by the fibrotic injury, extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition and liver dysfunction. Moreover, long-term NaAsO2 exposure activated NLRP3 inflammasome, leading to the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines in liver tissue. After treatment with MCC950, the induction of NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines were significantly attenuated, leading to a decrease in the severity of liver fibrosis and an improvement in liver function. To summarize, those results clearly indicate that hepatic fibrosis and liver dysfunction induced by NaAsO2 occur through the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated pyroptosis, shedding new light on the potential mechanisms underlying arsenic-induced liver damage.

Multiple myeloma is a hematological malignancy that has evolved from antibody-secreting B lymphocytes. Like other types of cancers, myeloma cells have acquired functional capabilities which are referred to as “Hallmarks of Cancer”, and one of their most important features is the metabolic disorders. Due to the high secretory load of the MM cells, the first-line medicine proteasome inhibitors have found their pronounced effects in MM cells for blocking the degradation of misfolded proteins, leading to their accumulation in the ER and overwhelming ER stress. Moreover, proteasome inhibitors have been reported to be effective in myeloma by targeting glucose, lipid, amino acid metabolism of MM cells. In this review, we have described the abnormal metabolism of the three major nutrients, such as glucose, lipid and amino acids, which participate in the cellular functions. We have described their roles in myeloma progression, how they could be exploited for therapeutic purposes, and current therapeutic strategies targeting these metabolites, hoping to uncover potential novel therapeutic targets and promote the development of future therapeutic approaches.

Abstract This study introduces a method to predict the remaining useful life (RUL) of plain bearings operating under stationary, wear-critical conditions. In this method, the transient wear data of a coupled elastohydrodynamic lubrication (mixed-EHL) and wear simulation approach is used to parametrize a statistical, linear degradation model. The method incorporates Bayesian inference to update the linear degradation model throughout the runtime and thereby consider the transient, system-dependent wear progression within the RUL prediction. A case study is used to show the suitability of the proposed method. The results show that the method can be applied to three distinct types of post-wearing-in behavior: wearing-in with subsequent hydrodynamic, stationary wear, and progressive wear operation. While hydrodynamic operation leads to an infinite lifetime, the method is successfully applied to predict RUL in cases with stationary and progressive wear.

Abstract Background Previous studies have highlighted several problems in the implementation of multidisciplinary treatment (MDT) from a managerial perspective. However, no study has addressed these issues from clinicians’ perspective. Therefore, this study aimed to identify and address the existing problems in MDT by investigating what clinicians know and think about the implementation of MDT. Methods A self-designed questionnaire was used to evaluate clinicians’ understanding of MDT in municipal public Class III Grade A hospitals in Western China using a cross-sectional questionnaire study. Results Overall, 70.56% of clinicians knew the scope of MDT, and 63.41% knew the process of MDT. Professional title (P = 0.001; OR: 2.984; 95% CI: 1.590–5.603), participated in MDT (P = 0.017; OR: 1.748; 95% CI: 1.103–2.770), and application for MDT (P = 0.000; OR: 2.442; 95% CI: 1.557–3.830) had an impact on clinicians’ understanding of the scope of MDT. Professional title (P = 0.002; OR:2.446; 95% CI: 1.399–4.277) and participation in MDT (P = 0.000; OR: 2.414; 95% CI: 1.581–3.684) influenced clinicians’ understanding of the scope of MDT. More than 70% of the respondents thought that MDT was important in medical care. However, less than half of the clinicians who had attended MDT were currently satisfied with the results of MDT. Conclusion Most clinicians agreed that MDT was crucial in clinical care. However, more than a third of clinicians did not fully understand the scope and process of MDT. Appropriate measures are necessary to improve the quality of MDT. Our study suggests that healthcare administration should strengthen MDT education, especially for new and young clinicians.

Abstract Background Currently, radiation therapy treatment planning system intends biological optimization that relies heavily upon plan metrics from tumor control probability (TCP) and normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) modeling. Implementation and expansion of TCP and NTCP models with alternative data is an important step towards reliable radiobiological treatment planning. In this retrospective single institution study, the treatment charts of 139 lung cancer patients treated with chemo-radiotherapy were reviewed and correlated dosimetric predictors with the incidence of esophagitis and established NTCP model of esophagitis grade 1 and 2 for lung cancer patients. Methods Esophagus is an organ at risk (OAR) in lung cancer radiotherapy (RT). Esophagitis is a common toxicity induced by RT. In this study, dose volume parameters Vx (Vx: percentage esophageal volume receiving ≥ x Gy) and mean esophagus dose (MED) as quantitative dose-volume metrics, the esophagitis grade 1 and 2 as endpoints, were reviewed and derived from the treatment planning system and the electronic medical record system. Statistical analysis of binary logistic regression and probit were performed to have correlated the probability of grade 1 and 2 esophagitis to MED and Vx. IBM SPSS software version 24 at 5% significant level (α = 0.05) was used in the statistical analysis. Results The probabilities of incidence of grade 1 and 2 esophagitis proportionally increased with increasing the values of Vx and MED. V20, V30, V40, V50 and MED are statistically significant good dosimetric predictors of esophagitis grade 1. 50% incidence probability (TD50) of MED for grade 1 and 2 esophagitis were determined. Lyman Kutcher Burman model parameters, such as, n, m and TD50, were fitted and compared with other published findings. Furthermore, the sigmoid shaped dose responding curve between probability of esophagitis grade 1 and MED were generated respecting to races, gender, age and smoking status. Conclusions V20, V30, V40 and V50 were added onto Quantitative Analysis of Normal Tissue Effects in the clinic, or QUANTEC group’s dose constrains of V35, V50, V70 and MED. Our findings may be useful as both validation of 3-Dimensional planning era models and also additional clinical guidelines in treatment planning and plan evaluation using radiobiology optimization.

Tree mortality significantly influences forest structure and function, yet our understanding of its dynamic patterns among a range of tree sizes and among different plant functional types (PFTs) remains incomplete. This study analysed size-dependent tree mortality in a temperate forest, encompassing 46 tree species and 32,565 individuals across different PFTs (i.e., evergreen conifer vs. deciduous broadleaf species, shade-tolerant vs. shade-intolerant species). By employing all-subset regression procedures and logistic generalized linear mixed-effects models, we identified distinct mortality patterns influenced by biotic and abiotic factors. Our results showed a stable mortality pattern in evergreen conifer species, contrasted by a declining pattern in deciduous broadleaf and shade-tolerant, as well as shade-intolerant species, across size classes. The contribution to tree mortality of evergreen conifer species shifted from abiotic to biotic factors with increasing size, while the mortality of deciduous broadleaf species was mainly influenced by biotic factors, such as initial diameter at breast height (DBH) and conspecific negative density. For shade-tolerant species, the mortality of small individuals was mainly determined by initial DBH and conspecific negative density dependence, whereas the mortality of large individuals was subjected to the combined effect of biotic (competition from neighbours) and abiotic factors (i.e., convexity and pH). As for shade-intolerant species, competition from neighbours was found to be the main driver of tree mortality throughout their growth stages. Thus, these insights enhance our understanding of forest dynamics by revealing the size-dependent and PFT-specific tree mortality patterns, which may inform strategies for maintaining forest diversity and resilience in temperate forest ecosystems.

Abstract In minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery, for solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) far from the pleura, it is difficult to resected by only relying on imaging data, and effective preoperative localization can significantly improve the success rate of surgery. Therefore, preoperative localization is particularly important for accurate resection. Here, we compare the value of a novel Lung‐pro‐guided localization technique with Hook‐wire localization in video‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery. Method In this study, 70 patients who underwent CT‐guided Hook‐wire localization and Lung‐pro guided surgical marker localization before VATS‐based SPNs resection between May 2020 and March 2021 were analyzed, and the clinical efficacy and complication rate of the two groups were compared. Result Thirty‐five patients underwent Lung‐pro guided surgical marker localization, and 35 patients underwent CT‐guided Hook‐wire localization. The localization success rates were 94.3% and 88.6%, respectively (p = 0.673). Compared with the puncture group, the locating time in the Lung‐pro group was significantly shorter (p = 0.000), and the wedge resection time was slightly shorter than that in the puncture group (P = 0.035). There were no significant differences in the success rate of localization, localization complications, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative hospital stay, and the number of staplers used. Conclusion The above studies show that the Lung‐pro guided surgical marker localization and the CT‐guided Hook‐wire localization have shown good safety and effectiveness. However, the Lung‐pro guided surgical marker localization may show more safety than the Hook‐wire and can improve the patient's perioperative experience.

ABSTRACT Importance Keratinopathic ichthyosis (KPI) represents a group of predominantly autosomal dominant genodermatoses resulting from mutations in the KRT1, KRT2, or KRT10 genes. In KPI, the relationship between genotype and phenotype is complex. Objective To analyze the clinical manifestations and gene mutations in Chinese patients with KPI. Methods Clinical data were collected from 13 children diagnosed with KPI, and peripheral blood DNA samples were extracted from both the patients and their parents Next‐generation sequencing was performed using a congenital ichthyosis multi‐gene panel, and the selected variants in the patients and their parents were further validated using the Sanger sequencing method. Results Genetic analysis identified missense mutations in either KRT1 or KRT10 in ten patients exhibiting varying degrees of severity and distinct features of epidermolytic ichthyosis. A missense hotspot mutation in KRT2 was identified in one patient with superficial epidermolytic ichthyosis. Additionally, two truncation mutations in KRT10 were detected, leading to the development of generalized ichthyosiform erythroderma. Ear malformation and ectropion at birth, scalp involvement, and palmoplantar hyperkeratosis were observed as early signs of ichthyosis with confetti. Interpretation We analyzed the genotype‐phenotype correlations in KPI, revealing that the types and locations of different mutations are associated with distinct phenotypic characteristics. Oral acitretin could be considered a treatment option for severe patients at an appropriate dosage and timing.

[Introduction] This article aims to study the issue of the melting capacity and reactive output capacity of the full bridge modular multi-level converter (MMC) type DC (Direct Current) melting ice device under different operating modes. [Method] Calculation of current AC (Alternating Current) component, DC component, rms value and peak value of bridge arm converter of full-bridge MMC type DC ice melting device, selection of number of bridge arm modules, IGBT (Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor) power module support capacitance calculation, bridge arm reactor inductance calculation, start-up loop resistance calculation were elaborated; The maximum reactive power output capacity of the device under the set ice melting capacity and the maximum ice melting capacity of the device under the set reactive power output capacity were analyzed in detail, and the coupling relationship and decoupling calculation between the ice melting capacity and the reactive power output capacity were explored. [Result] Research has shown that there is a coupling relationship between the melting capacity and reactive output capacity after the parameters of the melting device are determined. [Conclusion] The reason is that the bridge arm current contains both AC and DC components, and the AC component is determined by both the melting mode and reactive compensation mode, while the DC component only depends on the line melting current.

Abstract Background Somatic mutations of cancer driver genes are found to be responsible for vascular malformations with clinical manifestations ranging from cutaneous birthmarks to life-threatening systemic anomalies. Till now, only a limited number of cases and mutations were reported in Chinese population. The purpose of this study was to describe the somatic mutation spectrum of a cohort of Chinese pediatrics with vascular malformations. Methods Pediatrics diagnosed with various vascular malformations were collected between May 2019 and October 2020 from Beijing Children’s Hospital. Genomic DNA of skin lesion of each patient was extracted and sequenced by whole-exome sequencing to identify pathogenic somatic mutations. Mutations with variant allele frequency less than 5% were validated by ultra-deep sequencing. Results A total of 67 pediatrics (33 males, 34 females, age range: 0.1–14.8 years) were analyzed. Exome sequencing identified somatic mutations of corresponding genes in 53 patients, yielding a molecular diagnosis rate of 79.1%. Among 29 PIK3CA mutations, 17 were well-known hotspot p.E542K, p.E545K and p.H1047R/L. Non-hotspot mutations were prevalent in patients with PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum, accounting for 50.0% (11/22) of detected mutations. The hotspot GNAQ p.R183Q and TEK p.L914F mutations were responsible for the majority of port-wine stain/Sturge–Weber syndrome and venous malformation, respectively. In addition, we identified a novel AKT1 p.Q79K mutation in Proteus syndrome and MAP3K3 p.E387D mutation in verrucous venous malformation. Conclusions The somatic mutation spectrum of vascular malformations in Chinese population is similar to that reported in other populations, but non-hotspot PIK3CA mutations may also be prevalent. Molecular diagnosis may help the clinical diagnosis, treatment and management of these pediatric patients with vascular malformations.

Abstract Moiré magnetism featured by stacking engineered atomic registry and lattice interactions has recently emerged as an appealing quantum state of matter at the forefront of condensed matter physics research. Nanoscale imaging of moiré magnets is highly desirable and serves as a prerequisite to investigate a broad range of intriguing physics underlying the interplay between topology, electronic correlations, and unconventional nanomagnetism. Here we report spin defect-based wide-field imaging of magnetic domains and spin fluctuations in twisted double trilayer (tDT) chromium triiodide CrI3. We explicitly show that intrinsic moiré domains of opposite magnetizations appear over arrays of moiré supercells in low-twist-angle tDT CrI3. In contrast, spin fluctuations measured in tDT CrI3 manifest little spatial variations on the same mesoscopic length scale due to the dominant driving force of intralayer exchange interaction. Our results enrich the current understanding of exotic magnetic phases sustained by moiré magnetism and highlight the opportunities provided by quantum spin sensors in probing microscopic spin related phenomena on two-dimensional flatland.

Abstract Background Schizophrenia is a chronic, complex, and severe mental disorder and caregivers having knowledge about it can help improve patient adherence to treatment. This study aims to translate the Knowledge About Schizophrenia Test (KAST) into a Chinese Mandarin version and test it among caregivers to validate its reliability and reproducibility, as well as to determine its associated sociodemographic factors and clinical factors. Methods The project surveyed 160 patients with schizophrenia and their caregivers at four community health facilities in Beijing, China, from January 2022 to February 2022. All patients and caregivers completed the sociodemographic questionnaire, and caregivers also completed the Chinese-version KAST, and 143 of these caregivers completed the Chinese-version KAST again 2–4 weeks later. Results The mean (SD) of the caregiver score was 11.49 (± 3.13). After item analysis, there was acceptable internal consistency among the 17 items in the Chinese version (KR-20 coefficient 0.702). The intraclass correlation coefficient in the retest (0.686) was statistically significant. Gender, educational attainment, marital status, relationship with the patient, and occupational status were associated with the KAST score. Conclusion The findings demonstrate that the Chinese-version KAST is a reliable and reproducible instrument that can measure knowledge about schizophrenia and is valid to be applied in schizophrenia research.

Abstract Inhibition of immunocyte infiltration and activation has been suggested to effectively ameliorate nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Paired immunoglobulin-like receptor B (PirB) and its human ortholog receptor, leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor B (LILRB2), are immune-inhibitory receptors. However, their role in NASH pathogenesis is still unclear. Here, we demonstrate that PirB/LILRB2 regulates the migration of macrophages during NASH by binding with its ligand angiopoietin-like protein 8 (ANGPTL8). Hepatocyte-specific ANGPTL8 knockout reduces MDM infiltration and resolves lipid accumulation and fibrosis progression in the livers of NASH mice. In addition, PirB−/− bone marrow (BM) chimeras abrogate ANGPTL8-induced MDM migration to the liver. And yet, PirB ectodomain protein could ameliorate NASH by sequestering ANGPTL8. Furthermore, LILRB2-ANGPTL8 binding-promoted MDM migration and inflammatory activation are also observed in human peripheral blood monocytes. Taken together, our findings reveal the role of PirB/LILRB2 in NASH pathogenesis and identify PirB/LILRB2-ANGPTL8 signaling as a potential target for the management or treatment of NASH.

This work investigated the physicochemical properties, structural characteristics, and digestive properties of two non-conventional starches extracted from Galanga: Alpinia officinarum Hance starch (AOS) and Alpinia galanga Willd starch (AGS). The extraction rates of the two starches were 22.10 wt% and 15.73 wt%, which is lower than widely studied ginger (Zingiber officinale, ZOS). But they contained similar amounts of basic constituents. AOS and AGS showed a smooth, elongated shape, while ZOS was an oval sheet shape. AOS and ZOS were C-type starches, and AGS was an A-type starch. AOS showed the highest crystallinity (35.26 ± 1.02%) among the three starches, possessed a higher content of amylose (24.14 ± 0.73%) and a longer amylose average chain length (1419.38 ± 31.28) than AGS. AGS starch exhibits the highest viscosity at all stages, while AOS starch shows the lowest pasting temperature, and ZOS starch, due to its high amylose content, displays lower peak and trough viscosities. Significant differences were also found in the physicochemical properties of the three starches, including the swelling power, solubility, thermal properties, and rheological properties of the three starches. The total content of resistant starch (RS) and slowly digestible starch (SDS) in AOS (81.05%), AGS (81.46%), and ZOS (82.58%) are considered desirable. These findings proved to be valuable references for further research and utilization of ginger family starch.

The control of irrigation volume is of significant importance in arid regions of northwest China. Particularly, it has a crucial impact on the salinization of shallow groundwater areas. In 2022 and 2023, field experiments were conducted to test three distinct under-membrane irrigation treatments. These treatments were assigned water quotas of HW (27 mm), MW (22.5 mm), and LW (18 mm). The HYDRUS-2D model was integrated with a field experiment to accurately simulate the dynamic fluctuations of soil water and salt in the sunflower root zone. The model’s performance was assessed and verified using real-field data from 2022 and 2023, and the simulation results closely matched the measured values. This research also used stable hydroxide isotopes to assess the water supply from various soil layers at different time intervals in sunflower plants. The results indicated that the three different levels of irrigation applied under the membrane had a significant impact on soil water content. Specifically, there was a significant difference in soil water content at a depth of 0–40 cm (p < 0.05), while there was little effect on the water content at a depth of 40–60 cm (p > 0.05). After irrigation, the average salt content in the top 0–20 cm of soil decreased by 7.0% compared to the medium and low irrigation levels, and by 10.8% compared to the medium irrigation level. Additionally, the medium irrigation level resulted in a 10.8% decrease in salt content compared to the low irrigation level, and a 4.1% decrease compared to the medium irrigation level. During the same period, the soil salinity levels at depths of 0–20 cm, 20–40 cm, 40–60 cm, and 60–100 cm in the area outside the membrane were measured to be 2.7~4.8 g·kg−1, 2.8~4.0 g·kg−1, 2.7~3.4 g·kg−1, and 1.7~2.6 g·kg−1, respectively. These levels decreased by 13.1~55.5%, 0.7~42.8%, −0.4~16.2%, and −72.7~7.5%, respectively. Following irrigation, the HW treatment mostly absorbed water in the 0–40 cm soil layer, while the MW and LW treatments absorbed water in both the 0–40 cm and 60–80 cm soil levels. The results indicated that the most optimal drip irrigation method beneath the membrane in this location was achieved when the amount of water applied was between 25–30 mm. This method demonstrated a combination of water conservation, high crop yield, and effective salt suppression.

Graphite-derived carbon-based nanomaterials (GCNMs) as an exciting class of engineering carbonmaterials have been extensively exploited in environment and agriculture for pollution restorer, environmental purifier, plant growth stimulant, and stress resistance inducer. With the increasing demand of production in past decades, GCNMs were inevitably released into the natural environment and became emerging pollutants.This review briefly summarized the recent progress on GCNMs-plant interaction with positive and negative sides, and discussed the biphasic (stimulatory-inhibitory) regulation of GCNMs on plant systems. The emphasis was placed on disseminating the latest scientific research, covering various effectiveness of GCNMs on plants and cells as well as nanotoxicity. Particularly, it is highlighted that fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, graphenes, and their functionalized forms as the representative zero-, one-, and two-dimensional GCNMs in optimum quantity have favorable efficacy on plants for seed germination, growth and development, fruit and productivity, and stress tolerance. On the contrary, GCNMs have possibly induced cytotoxicity and phytotoxicity on plant at anatomic, physiological, and genetic levels. The toxic mechanisms were mainly attributed to ion leakage from membrane, chloroplast damage, decreasing the levels of photosynthetic/nonphotosynthetic pigments and plant hormones, downregulating activities of metabolism and enzymatic/non-enzymatic antioxidant systems, or triggering ROS increase for inducing oxidative stress. This comprehensive review provides an in-depth insight of advanced progress made toward the utilization of GCNMs in plant science fields as well as current challenges. Future perspectives on a directional guide for further research in the emerging area of GCNMs-enabled phytonanotechnology are summarized at the end. This will possibly provide an important reference role for further study and rational application of GCNMs in agriculture.

Objective: Scaphoid and lunate fractures have a relatively high incidence rate. Traditional carpectomy and carpal arthrodesis in the treatment of carpal osteonecrosis will lead to many complications. Three-dimensional (3D) printed tantalum has good biocompatibility and can be designed to match the patient’s personalized anatomical carpal structure. This study aims to investigate carpal function and prosthesis-related conditions after carpal bone replacement using 3D printed tantalum prostheses.Methods: From July 2020 to January 2022 at our center, seven patients with osteonecrosis of the carpus received carpal bone replacement using 3D printed tantalum prosthesis. The Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score and patient satisfaction, as well as the Mayo Wrist Scores (Cooney method, modified Green, and O’Brien wrist score), were used to evaluate the preoperative and postoperative wrist function of patients. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain scores were also recorded before and after surgery. The angles of flexion, dorsiflexion, ulnar deviation, and radial deviation were measured using an arthrometer. The grip strength and pinch strength of the operated hand after carpal bone replacement and the contralateral healthy carpus were measured using a dynamometer. Radiographs were taken to confirm the condition and complications of the tantalum prosthesis.Results: All seven patients were followed for 19.6 ± 2.7 months. At the last follow-up, the grip strength of the operated wrist joint after carpal bone replacement was 33.4 ± 2.3 kg, the pinch strength was 8.9 ± 0.7 kg, the flexion was 54.6° ± 0.8°, the dorsiflexion was 54.7° ± 1.7°, the ulnar deviation was 34.6° ± 1.9°, and the radial deviation was 25.9° ± 0.8°, all of which showed no statistically significant difference with the contralateral healthy carpus (p > 0.05). There were significant differences in the VAS, DASH, and MAYO scores between the preoperative and the last follow-up (p < 0.01). Patients had reduced postoperative pain and improved wrist function and range of motion (ROM), and the tantalum prostheses were stable.Conclusion: The 3D printed tantalum brings us new hope, not only for hip or knee replacement, but also for joint replacement of other complex anatomical structures, and patients with other irregular bone defects such as bone tumors and deformity, which could realize personalized treatment and precise medicine.

Government-guided withdrawal from rural homesteads is a sustainable solution to the problem of vacant rural residential land. Nonetheless, few studies have considered the influence of risk perception and loss aversion on farmers' decisions to withdraw from rural homesteads, and even fewer have investigated the role of policy identity. Using fieldwork-collected primary data and a lottery-choice experiment from a reform pilot area of southwestern China, this study aimed to provide a new focus for risk perception and loss aversion in farmers' intention to withdraw from rural homesteads through policy identity. According to our findings, only 45.30 % are willing to withdraw from their homesteads. Farmers typically perceive two to three categories of risks among residence risk, livelihood risk, security risk, and policy risk. Only 29.28 % of respondents report a low level of loss aversion, with the remainder reporting a moderate or high level. More than half demonstrate a high level of policy identity. Most notably, after dealing with endogeneity, risk perception has a negative impact on farmers' intention to withdraw from rural homesteads, whereas loss aversion has a positive impact. Policy identity has a positive influence on farmers' intention, partially mediating the negative path of risk perception and entirely mediating the positive path of loss aversion. Robust concluding remarks advocate for the improvement of farmers’ policy identity based on heterogeneous characteristics of risk perception and loss aversion, as well as a more individualized consideration of land withdrawal options.

(TiC + TiBx)/Ti composite coatings were prepared on a Ti6Al4V substrate by laser cladding to improve its microhardness and water erosion resistance. The 1 wt% Gr + 49 wt% Ni60 + 50 wt% Ti6Al4V composite powders were used as the precursor. The effects of laser energy density and powder deposition density on the geometric morphology, phase composition, microstructure, microhardness and water erosion resistance characteristics of the coatings were comprehensively studied through numerical simulation and experimental characterization. The results showed that the geometric morphology of the coating was determined by the laser energy density and powder deposition density; however, the microstructure of the coating was not completely understood. A high scanning speed was more conducive to grain refinement than a low scanning speed. In addition, the earlier precipitated hard phases provided heterogeneous nucleation sites for other grains and promoted their dispersion. Due to the dispersion strengthening and grain refinement effects of the in situ synthesized hard phases, the microhardness and water erosion resistance characteristics of the coatings significantly improved. With a laser energy density of 64 J mm−2 and a powder deposition density of 5 × 10−3 g mm−2, the microhardness of the coating reached 919.9 HV0.3, which was 2.8 times greater than that of the Ti6Al4V substrate. The water erosion resistance of the coating was the best.

Purpose: Robot-assisted technology is a forefront of surgical innovation that improves the accuracy of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). But whether the accuracy of surgery can improve the clinical efficacy still needs further research. The purpose of this study is to perform three-dimensional (3D) analysis in the early postoperative period of patients who received robot-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RATKA), and to study the trend of changes in gait parameters after RATKA and the correlation with the early clinical efficacy. Methods: Patients who received RATKA in the Center of Joint Surgery, the First Hospital Affiliated to Army Military Medical University from October 2020 to January 2021 were included. The imaging parameters, i.e., hip-knee-ankle angle, lateral distal femoral angle, medial proximal tibial angle, posterior condylar angle were measured 3 months post-TKA. The 3D gait analysis and clinical efficacy by Western Ontario Mac Master University Index (WOMAC) score were performed pre-TKA, 3 and 6 months post-TKA. The differences in spatiotemporal parameters of gait, kinetic parameters, and kinematic parameters of the operated limb and the contralateral limb were compared. The correlation between gait parameters and WOMAC scores was analyzed. Paired sample t-test and Wilcoxon rank-sum test were used to analyze the difference between groups, and Spearman correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation. Results: There were 31 patients included in this study, and the imaging indexes showed that all of them returned to normal post-TKA. The WOMAC score at 3 months post-TKA was significantly lower than that pre-TKA, and there was no significant difference between at 3 and 6 months. Summary: Objective: To compare the difference in efficacy and accuracy during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) among robotic-arm system, patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) and conventional TKA (COTKA). Methods: Retrospective analysis of 90 advanced knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients in our hospital between June 2019 and December 2020 was conducted. Patients were divided into robotic arm-assisted (RA)TKA (group A), PSITKA (group B) and COTKA (group C), 30 cases in each group. The operation time, intraoperative bleeding, and length of hospital stay were counted. AIM: To investigate the size of functional optical zone (FOZ) after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) versus femtosecond laser assisted excimer laser keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) for myopia correction and potential associated factors for FOZ. METHODS: A total of 133 patients who received corneal refractive surgery in our hospital between November 2018 and July 2021 were retrospectively enrolled. There were 63 patients (123 eyes) in SMILE group and 70 patients (139 eyes) in FS-LASIK group. The size of FOZ was measured using Pentacam 3-dementional anterior segment analyzer before and 3mo after surgery, so as to analyze postoperative achieved functional optical zone (AFOZ) and its contributing parameters. Keratoconus is characterized by the progressive thinning and protrusion of central cornea. Dysregulated collagen metabolism is one of the causes of this disease. In this study, the effect of acetazolamide on collagen synthesis in keratoconus fibroblasts and its mechanism were explored, which could provide a reference for the clinical treatment of keratoconus. The cultured keratoconus fibroblasts were treated with 100 μmol/L acetazolamide solution. The expression of collagen metabolism-related genes was then analyzed by qPCR. The collagen content was detected by ELISA and Western Blot. The intracellular ROS content was analyzed by fluorescent probe DCFH-DA. The changes of MDA content and the total antioxidant capacity were detected by spectrophotometry. It was suggested that after acetamide treatment, the expression of COLs and LOXs, of which coded enzymes paticipated in collagen synthesis and crosslinking, were significantly up-regulated, while the expression of collagen degradation genes including MMP2, MMP3, and MMP9 were significantly down-regulated. The contents of type I collagen and total collagens were both reduced by acetamide treatment. In addition, the total antioxidant capacity of cells and the expression of the antioxidant enzyme gene NQO-1 were significantly up-regulated, while the contents of ROS and MDA were significantly decreased. The results indicated that acetazolamide could induce the synthesis and inhibit the degradation of collagens in keratoconus fibroblasts by reducing the intracellular oxidative stress levels.
