Abstract Background Broussonetia papyrifera is an economically significant tree with high utilization value, yet its cultivation is often constrained by soil contamination with heavy metals (HMs). Effective scientific cultivation management, which enhances the yield and quality of B. papyrifera, necessitates an understanding of its regulatory mechanisms in response to HM stress. Results Twelve Metallothionein (MT) genes were identified in B. papyrifera. Their open reading frames ranged from 186 to 372 bp, encoding proteins of 61 to 123 amino acids with molecular weights between 15,473.77 and 29,546.96 Da, and theoretical isoelectric points from 5.24 to 5.32. Phylogenetic analysis classified these BpMTs into three subclasses: MT1, MT2, and MT3, with MT2 containing seven members and MT3 only one. The expression of most BpMT genes was inducible by Cd, Mn, Cu, Zn, and abscisic acid (ABA) treatments, particularly BpMT2e, BpMT2d, BpMT2c, and BpMT1c, which showed significant responses and warrant further study. Yeast cells expressing these BpMT genes exhibited enhanced tolerance to Cd, Mn, Cu, and Zn stresses compared to control cells. Yeasts harboring BpMT1c, BpMT2e, and BpMT2d demonstrated higher accumulation of Cd, Cu, Mn, and Zn, suggesting a chelation and binding capacity of BpMTs towards HMs. Site-directed mutagenesis of cysteine (Cys) residues indicated that mutations in the C domain of type 1 BpMT led to increased sensitivity to HMs and reduced HM accumulation in yeast cells; While in type 2 BpMTs, the contribution of N and C domain to HMs’ chelation possibly corelated to the quantity of Cys residues. Conclusion The BpMT genes are crucial in responding to diverse HM stresses and are involved in ABA signaling. The Cys-rich domains of BpMTs are pivotal for HM tolerance and chelation. This study offers new insights into the structure-function relationships and metal-binding capabilities of type-1 and − 2 plant MTs, enhancing our understanding of their roles in plant adaptation to HM stresses.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and factors of myofascial release therapy combined with electrical and magnetic stimulation in the treatment of chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS). A total of 79 female patients diagnosed with CPPS from January 2021 to December 2022 were prospectively analyzed. Every patient received 3 weeks of treatment which included myofascial release therapy combined with electrical and magnetic stimulation. The visual analog score (VAS) of pelvic floor muscle (PFM) trigger points (TrPs) and the changes in pelvic floor surface electromyography before and after treatment were compared. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of each outcome index. There were significant differences in VASs of muscle TrPs before and after treatment (P < 0.05). For the surface electromyography of PFMs, the differences in pre-baseline rest, post-baseline rest, isometric contractions for muscle endurance evaluation, and coefficient of variation were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Linear regression analysis showed that disease course (X 1), dyspareunia (X 5), and urinary incontinence (X 6) were influencing factors for the decline of pre-baseline rest (r5 = 1.067, R 2 = 0.089), post-baseline rest (r1 = 0.055, r5 = 0.99, R 2 = 0.119), VASs of ischial spine (r5 = 0.916, R 2 = 0.102), obturator internus (r5 = 0.796, r6 = −0.703, R 2 = 0.245), and pubococcygeus (r5 = 0.885, R 2 = 0.149) after treatment in the CPPS group. This study confirmed that individualized myofascial release therapy combined with electrical and magnetic stimulation has significant efficacy for patients with CPPS. At the same time, it is more effective for CPPS patients with longer course of disease, dyspareunia, and without urinary incontinence.

Abstract Background Lymphatic leakage is one of the postoperative complications of neuroblastoma. The purpose of this study is to summarize the clinical characteristics and risk factors of lymphatic leakage and try to find effective prevention and treatment measures. Methods A retrospective study included 186 children with abdominal neuroblastoma, including 32 children of lymphatic leakage and 154 children of non-lymphatic leakage. The clinical information, surgical data, postoperative abdominal drainage, treatment of lymphatic leakage and prognosis of the two groups were collected and analyzed. Results The incidence of lymphatic leakage in this cohort was 14% (32 children). Through univariate analysis of lymphatic leakage group and non-lymphatic leakage group, we found that lymphatic leakage increased the complications, prolonged the time of abdominal drainage and hospitalization, and delayed postoperative chemotherapy (p

The global scattering-center model is a high-performance electromagnetic scattering parametric model for complex targets in an optical region. The traditional methods for constructing global scattering models are usually based on candidate-point screening and clustering and are prone to producing false scattering centers and ignoring actual scattering centers. To address this issue, this study proposes a novel modeling method based on the spectral peak analysis of the target electromagnetic scattering intensity field. First, the three-dimensional (3D) electromagnetic scattering intensity field of the target is estimated based on the multiperspective, one-dimensional scattering-center parameters of the target using the RANdom SAmple Consensus (RANSAC) and Parzen window methods. Next, the positions of the global 3D scattering centers are determined through spectral peak analysis, scattering-center association, and multivision measurement fusion. Finally, the scattering coefficients and type parameters of the global scattering centers are estimated after the visibility of the global scattering center is corrected through binary image morphological processing. Simulation results demonstrate that the global scattering center model extracted using this method, which is highly consistent with the geometrical structure of the target, achieves higher expression accuracy while using fewer scattering centers than those used in traditional methods.

ABSTRACT Importance Type D esophageal atresia (EA) with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) is characterized by EA with both proximal and distal TEFs. It is a rare congenital anomaly with a very low incidence. Objective To investigate diagnostic and treatment strategies for this rare condition. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinicopathological features of patients with EA/TEF treated at our institution between January 2007 and September 2021. Results Among 386 patients with EA/TEF, 14 (3.6%) had type D EA/TEF. Only two patients were diagnosed with proximal TEF preoperatively. Seven patients were diagnosed intraoperatively. Five patients were missed for diagnosis during the initial surgery but was later confirmed by bronchoscopy. During the neonatal period, seven patients underwent a one‐stage repair of proximal and distal TEF via thoracoscopy or thoracotomy. Due to missed diagnosis and other reasons, the other 7 patients underwent two‐stage surgery for repair of the proximal TEF, including cervical incision and thoracoscopy. Ten of the 14 patients experienced postoperative complications including anastomotic leakage, pneumothorax, esophageal stricture, and recurrence. Patients who underwent one‐stage repair of distal and proximal TEF during the neonatal period showed a higher incidence of anastomotic leak (4/7). In contrast, only one of seven patients with two‐stage repair of the proximal TEF developed an anastomotic leak. Interpretation Type D EA/TEF is a rare condition, and proximal TEFs are easily missed. Bronchoscopy may aim to diagnose and determine the correct surgical approach. A cervical approach may be more suitable for repairing the proximal TEF.

Due to the difficulty of studying nonlinear quantum systems and the unique composition of Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) systems, BECs face significant difficulties in solving dynamic analysis and chaotic control problems. Therefore, Hartree–Fock mean field theory is introduced to study the chaotic characteristics, control, and synchronization issues of BEC systems loaded on optical lattices. First, the stability and chaos of BECs in optical lattices were analyzed. Subsequently, constant shift method and activation control were introduced based on the Gross–Pitaevskii equation to achieve control and synchronization of the BEC system. Second, based on the Lyapunov exponent theory, offset parameters are added to BEC chaotic control to achieve control of particle density. Finally, based on the stability theory of linear systems, a control term is introduced to achieve variable analysis of the system’s drive–response system, ensuring that chaotic systems with different initial conditions can still achieve good synchronization and anti-synchronization control. The chaotic problem of BEC system was analyzed using numerical and theoretical methods in the experiment. The effect of adjusting the parameters of the BEC system under the constant shift method is significant. The system exhibits a chaotic state under the Lyapunov exponent, which is mainly concentrated between [3.4, 4.5], demonstrating good system stability. When the offset constant range is [4.21, 5.67], the maximum Lyapunov exponent value is below 0. In the problem of chaotic synchronization, adding activation control causes the system’s time series to exhibit anti-synchronization with spatiotemporal variable variation, while adding control terms leads the system to tend towards synchronization and anti-synchronization with time evolution. The analysis of chaotic control problems in BEC systems can provide reference value and theoretical basis for the dynamic research of quantum physics and related nonlinear systems.

Abstract Objective To investigate the clinical features, treatment strategies, and prognosis of neuroblastoma with bilateral blindness. Methods The clinical data of five patients with bilateral blindness neuroblastoma admitted to Beijing Children’s Hospital from April 2018 to September 2020 were retrospectively collected to summarize their clinical characteristics. Results All patients were female and the median age at presentation was 25 (23, 41) months. The median intervention time from the onset of symptoms of bilateral blindness to the start of treatment was 10 (10, 12) days. All five cases were staged as stage M and grouped as high risk. Four cases were MYCN gene amplification and one case was MYCN acquisition. Five children were treated according to a high-risk neuroblastoma treatment protocol. Four children did not recover their vision after treatment, and one case improved to have light perception. All patients were effectively followed up for a median of 20 (12, 31) months, with three deaths, one tumor-free survival, and one recurrent tumor-bearing survival. Conclusion Neuroblastoma with bilateral blindness is rare in the clinic, mostly in children of young age, and is often associated with MYCN amplification and multiple metastases. Early hormone shock therapy and optic nerve decompression are beneficial for preserving the child’s vision. A joint multi-disciplinary treatment may help in the formulation of treatment decisions. Achieving a balance between good visual preservation and survival within the short optic nerve neurotherapeutic window is extremely challenging.

As engineering endeavors push the boundaries of material and design capabilities, the significance of understanding and mitigating fatigue in construction materials becomes paramount. This study specifically investigates the low-cycle fatigue performance of reinforced high-strength concrete (RHSC). Using rigorous data collection, we established a clear link between interpretable machine learning analysis and the fatigue properties of RHSC. A trained model was developed, yielding a straightforward formula tailored to low-cycle fatigue design considerations for RHSC. This model stands as a testament to the potential for marrying traditional engineering practices with advanced statistical techniques. Our results emphasize that, when appropriately applied, regression analysis can be instrumental in enhancing the durability and longevity of RHSC structures exposed to dynamic loadings. This research not only underscores the pivotal role of statistical methods in fatigue design but also champions the broader adoption of such techniques in evolving engineering landscapes.

Walnut is an important economic tree species that is susceptible to osmotic stress. Scientific cultivation management is an important way to improve the yield and quality of walnuts, which requires understanding the regulatory mechanisms in response to osmotic stress. Therefore, in this study, 15 protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) genes were identified from the walnut transcriptome (named JrPP2A01~15) and their potential function responses to osmotic stress were elucidated. The open reading frame (ORF) of JrPP2A01~15 ranges from 651 to 1,764 bp in length, the molecular weight of the encoded proteins are 24.15−65.61 kDa, and the theoretical isoelectric points are 4.80−8.37. These JrPP2As were unevenly distributed on 10 chromosomes and divided into five groups based on the composition of conserved domains, motifs, and exon/intron organizations. The five groups are JrPP2AAs, JrPP2AB's, JrPP2AB''s, JrPP2AB55s, and JrPP2ACs, including 1, 5, 2, 3, and 4 members, accordingly. The cis-elements in JrPP2As' promoters were involved in responses to hormone and abiotic stress. Most JrPP2A genes, excluding JrPP2A01, JrPP2A02, JrPP2A05, JrPP2A06, and JrPP2A13, could be induced significantly by PEG6000, NaCl, CaCl2 and ABA. JrPP2A02, JrPP2A05, JrPP2A07, JrPP2A09, and JrPP2A14, could independently interact with a bZIP transcription factor JrVIP1. Moreover, overexpression of JrPP2A07, JrPP2A09, and JrPP2A14 could significantly decrease ROS accumulation while increasing calcium (Ca) uptake exposed to PEG6000 and NaCl stresses, which was mediated by exogenous CaCl2 and ABA. These results suggested that JrPP2A genes play potential key roles in walnut response to drought and salt-inducing osmotic stress involving Ca- and ABA-dependent signaling pathways.

In the last few decades, there has been a significant increase in the importance of assessing social and ecological implications within industrial product supply chains. This tendency has given rise to the notion of supplier sustainability, which entails meeting the economic, environmental, and social demands of all suppliers. The supplier selections are typically based on experts’ opinion, which are then reflected in supplier ratings. When examining sustainability indicators, experts may not be fully aware of all aspects of suppliers’ economic, social, and environmental qualities. In the Decision Making (DM) approaches such as Pythagorean Fuzzy (PF) and q-Rung Orthopair Fuzzy (q-ROF) sets, experts are unable to use different powers for membership and non-membership grades simultaneously. In real-life DM problems, experts may require different power levels for membership and non-membership grades. In this paper, we propose a new extension of the COPRAS method under p, q-Quasirung orthopair fuzzy ( $p,q-$ QOF) sets, which allow decision-makers to use different power levels for membership and non-membership grades by incorporating parameters p and q. In the proposed approach, it is assumed that in addition to compiling the expert scores for suppliers, the issue analyst evaluates each expert’s degree of expertise for each criterion. The best choice is then determined by combining the data using the COPRAS method. The Inter-Criteria Correlation (CRITIC) method is employed to determine the unknown criteria weights. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach, we apply it to a Multi-Criteria Group Decision-Making (MCGDM) problem that is focused on green supplier selection. Finally, we conduct a comparative study with existing approaches to demonstrate the practicality and applicability of the proposed DM method.

The circular Pythagorean fuzzy (Cir-PyF) sets (Cir-PyFSs) not only contain the membership and non-membership grades, but also have the radius around the circle of each element. Cir-PyFSs can cope with many real-life problems. In this paper, we consider the Hamacher t-norm and t-conorm operational laws for any two Cir-PyF numbers (Cir-PyFNs) and describe their exceptional cases such as algebraic and Einstein operational laws. Furthermore, the Cir-PyF Hamacher averaging (Cir-PyFHA) operator, Cir-PyF Hamacher ordered averaging (Cir-PyFHOA) operator, Cir-PyF Hamacher geometric (Cir-PyFHG) operator, and Cir-PyF Hamacher ordered geometric (Cir-PyFHOG) operator are proposed. Some properties and theorems for the above operators are also discussed in detail. Moreover, to select the simplest and best procedure for evaluating the source of gold in mines, we illustrate the application of the multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) technique based on the derived operators. Finally, we demonstrate some examples for comparing the proposed operators with some existing methods to expand the attraction of the proposed way.

Pythagorean fuzzy hypersoft sets (PFHSSs) are a novel model that is projected to address the limitations of Pythagorean fuzzy soft sets (PFSSs) regarding the entitlement of a multi-argument domain for the approximation of parameters under consideration. It is more flexible and reliable as it considers the further classification of parameters into their relevant parametric valued sets. This article aims to be multi-faced. Firstly, several axiomatic properties, operational results, and aggregation operations on PFHSSs will be developed. Secondly, matrices are developed for PFHSSs, called Pythagorean fuzzy hypersoft matrices (PFHSMs). The essential basic properties and aggregation operations of PFHSMs are then characterized with the support of numerical examples. Thirdly, the matrix theory of PFHSSs is implemented in real-world decision-making scenarios for Mobile selection using the proposed choice matrix theory. At the end of the article, we go on a real-life problem for wastewater treatment. Wastewater treatment is crucial for preserving the environment and public health. It comprises purifying wastewater of contaminants and pollutants so that it may be utilized for other things or discharged safely into the environment. It is essential to protect the environment and the public health by removing toxins from domestic, industrial, and commercial sewages. We finally apply our proposed algorithm in the selection of wastewater treatment plants by employing the proposed algorithm based on PFHSMs. In fact, PFHSMs are flexible enough to be used in a wide range of fields, including image processing, expert systems, pattern recognition, and medical diagnosis. The future directions are discussed with these PFHSMs to develop MCDM techniques such as TOPSIS, VIKOR, and SAW so that they can be applied in a wider range of fields.

Abstract The latest clinical trials have reported conflicting outcomes regarding the effectiveness of xenon anesthesia in preventing postoperative neurocognitive dysfunction; thus, this study assessed the existing evidence. We searched the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases from inception to April 9, 2023, for randomized controlled trials of xenon anesthesia in postoperative patients. We included English-language randomized controlled studies of adult patients undergoing surgery with xenon anesthesia that compared its effects to those of other anesthetics. Duplicate studies, pediatric studies, and ongoing clinical trials were excluded. Nine studies with 754 participants were identified. A forest plot revealed that the incidence of postoperative neurocognitive dysfunction did not differ between the xenon anesthesia and control groups (P = 0.43).
