Examines the differences in the reported use of reading strategies of native and non-native English speakers when reading academic materials. Participants were native English speaking and English-as-a-Second-Language college students who completed a survey of reading strategies aimed at discerning the strategies readers report using when coping with academic reading tasks. Reports on language-learning strategies of a group of Indian college students studying English in the environment of an indigenized variety of English. Data for study were collected through a questionnaire--the English-Language-Learning Strategies Inventory (ELLSI)--designed specifically for the study. Results indicated that Indian college students use learning strategies included in the ELLSI with high to moderate frequency and that their cultural and educational backgrounds seem to influence the strategies they use. A variety of novel 3-propyl-2-substitutedamino-quinazolin-4(3 H)-ones were synthesized by reacting the amino group of 2-hydrazino-3-propyl quinazolin-4(3 H)-one with a variety of aldehydes and ketones. The starting material 2-hydrazino-3-propyl quinazolin-4(3 H)-one was synthesized from propylamine. The title compounds were investigated for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. The compound 2-(1-ethylpropylidene-hydrazino)-3-propyl-quinazolin-4(3 H)-one ( SR2) emerged as the most active compound of the series, and it is more potent in its analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities when compared with the reference standard diclofenac sodium. Purpose: To synthesize a series of novel 3-ethyl-2-substituted amino-quinazolin-4(3H)-ones and evaluate them for their analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. Methods: The compounds, 3-ethyl-2-substituted amino-quinazolin-4(3H)-ones, were synthesized by reacting the amino group of 3-ethyl-2-hydrazino quinazolin-4(3H)-one with a variety of aldehydes and ketones. The synthesized compounds were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), protonnuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR) and mass spectrometry. The purity of the compounds was determined by elemental analysis. Test for analgesic activity was performed by tail-flick technique using Wistar albino mice while anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by carrageenaninduced paw oedema test in rats. Diclofenac sodium was used as positive control for both analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. Results: The compound, 3-ethyl-2-(cyclohexylidene-hydrazino)-3H-quinazolin-4-one (AS1), emerged as the active analgesic (activity, 63.89 %) and anti-inflammatory (activity, 60.00 %) compound of the series, and compared well with the reference standard, diclofenac sodium, which exbited analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of 62.04 and 65.11 %, respectively Conclusion: The compound (AS1) can serve as a lead molecule for further development to a clinically useful novel class of analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents. Effects of topical administration of ethanolic extract of Malvastrum Tricuspidatum ointment was studied respectively on two types of wound models in wistar rats, (i) the incision and (ii) the dead space wound model. The ointment of the ethanolic extract of Malvastrum Tricuspidatum produced significant response in both of the wound types tested. In the incision model the extract treated wounds were found to epithelialise faster and the rate of wound contraction was higher, as compared to control wounds. Telmisartan is a Anti-hypertensive drugs which is insoluble in water, hence the drug may be slowly or incompletely dissolves in the gastro-intestinal tract. So the rate of dissolution and therefore its bioavailability is less (bioavailability 42%). In the present study an attempt has been made to prepare Fast Dissolving tablets of Telmisartan by using Superdisintegrants- Cross carmellose sodium, Microcrystalline cellulose and sodium starch glycolate, level of addition to increase the rate of drug release from dosage form to increase the dissolution rate and hence its bioavailability. The tablets were prepared by Direct Compression methods and the prepared blend and tablets were evaluated for their physicochemical properties and In-Vitro dissolution study. The evaluation studies were performed such as Weight Variation, Thickness, Hardness, Disintegrating Time, Wetting Time, and In-Vitro Drug Release. Muscles can be injured in different ways and the trauma and subsequent loss of function and physical capacity can impact significantly on the lives of patients through physical impairments and compromised quality of life. The relative success of muscle repair after injury will largely determine the extent of functional recovery. Unfortunately, regenerative processes are often slow and incomplete, and so developing novel strategies to enhance muscle regeneration is important. While the capacity to enhance muscle repair by stimulating β2-adrenoceptors (β-ARs) using β2-AR agonists (β2-agonists) has been demonstrated previously, the exact role β-ARs play in regulating the regenerative process remains unclear. To investigate β-AR-mediated signaling in muscle regeneration after myotoxic damage, we examined the regenerative capacity of tibialis anterior and extensor digitorum longus muscles from mice lacking either β1-AR (β1-KO) and/or β2-ARs (β2-KO), testing the hypothesis that muscles from mice lacking the β2-AR would exhibit impaired functional regeneration after damage compared with muscles from β1-KO or β1/β2-AR null (β1/β2-KO) KO mice. At 7 days post-injury, regenerating muscles from β1/β2-KO mice produced less force than those of controls but muscles from β1-KO or β2-KO mice did not exhibit any delay in functional restoration. Compared with controls, β1/β2-KO mice exhibited an enhanced inflammatory response to injury, which delayed early muscle regeneration, but an enhanced myoblast proliferation later during regeneration ensured a similar functional recovery (to controls) by 14 days post-injury. This apparent redundancy in the β-AR signaling pathway was unexpected and may have important implications for manipulating β-AR signaling to improve the rate, extent and efficacy of muscle regeneration to enhance functional recovery after injury.

The effect of acute bilateral adrenalectomy on the pressor responses to adrenaline, noradrenaline and isoprenaline was studied in anaesthetized dogs. The responses to all the three catecholamines were reduced by adrenalectomy. Treatment with cortisone, cyclic AMP partially restored the responsiveness. Desocycorticosterone, aldosterone, hydrocortisone, phenylbutazone or infusion of either saline and noradrenaline failed to improve the impaired pressor responses seen in adrenalectomized dogs. Treatment with corticosterone alone. combined administration of aldosterone and hydrocortisone or cortisone followed by cyclic 3',5'-AMP also restored catecholamine responses amost to normal. The pressor responses to catecholmaines in dogs were also reduced by metyrapone-induced cortical insufficiency. Administration of corticosterone, cortisone or cyclic AMP slightly improved these responses; the recovery was not, however, as effective as that noted in the adrenalectomized condition.
