This article argues that institutions of higher education (IHEs) require a fundamental paradigm shift toward an Indigenous Knowledge (IK) model inclusive of Indigenous Peoples, perspectives, and values. This model acknowledges the sacred value of nature, the rights of non human species, and the power and potential of transformative learning via collaboration with Indigenous communities. Through four personal experiences from one IHE, we highlight challenges and opportunities to decolonize higher education across the domains of policy, research, teaching, and programs. Examples include the Graduate Student Government's resistance to university policies of unsustainable construction projects; incorporating IK from Eastern traditions and world spiritual practices into course curriculum; Indigenizing higher education courses and projects through inclusion and collaboration with local Indigenous tribal members; and finally, ongoing transnational research and education collaborations with an Indigenous Mebêngôkre-Kayapó community in the Brazilian Amazon.

This study aimed to shed light on the prevalence of chronic peer victimisation among Dutch elementary school children and factors associated with (non-)disclosure of such experiences by victims. 5,961 students from 73 schools participated (51.5% male; M[subscript age] = 9.96; 77.7% native Dutch). Results showed that 12.3% of all children were victimised chronically, of which 29.4% did not disclose. Multilevel logistic regressions indicated that girls, older and native Dutch children were more likely to disclose. Moreover, experiencing depressive symptoms prompts disclosing victimisation. Anxiety, high emotion regulation skills, and perceptions of cohesion in the classroom were negatively associated with disclosure. The disclosure was not related to frequency or duration of victimisation, self-perceived social acceptance, self-worth, impulse control, or perceived classroom climate. Our study reveals information on the prevalence of peer victimisation and its disclosure, based on a nationwide study conducted in 2016-2017. It gives important insights into factors associated with disclosing victimisation experiences.

This research aims to contribute to the reflection of the teaching staff about the complexity in attending gifted students. For Jung and Morin complex things are characterized by uncertainty and not as clarity and response. Although not specifically mention gifted students in their works, Jung and Morin highlight the complexity in various contexts. Jung's analytical psychology and Morin's complexity theory are important to understand how complex it can be to teach gifted students. For Morin and Jung, the teaching staff has a key role in making their students become independent and investigative individuals. So the desire to investigate about the area of interest of the gifted child will depend on how this child is encouraged by their teachers. Advancement during the teaching-learning process does not depend exclusively on the method, but also on making the child aware that he/she can develop individually within a collective education. In the case of the gifted child, the intervention of the teaching staff is fundamental to develop their high abilities through the development of their creativity in the interaction with their peers.

The creativity is expressed in all individuals, but it manifests itself in different proportions and it may be carried out at different levels. Development levels of this attribute depend on the teacher's mediation in the process of learning. Creativity can be a challenge for most teachers, since they are unaware of its importance and unwittingly they inhibit by teaching methods that are not aimed at instigating the potential of students. Thus, this article aims to highlight the importance of teacher training for the development of gifted creativity. In conclusion, the mediation of teachers makes the difference in gifted education. As Vygotsky explains, it is precisely through the mediation that it is possible to develop the creative potential. In this sense, the training of the teaching staff reflects in how the mediation will take place during the process of teaching and learning. Therefore, it is essential that teachers are prepared to create a stimulating environment of potential and talents, as well as in performing a work with creativity of their students.

This research aims to highlight the importance of Creativity in education of gifted students. Recent education focuses exclusively on the development of intellectuality; it starts at an earlier age and stimulates mainly rational thinking, sometimes leaving aside other important dimensions. For gifted children, this fact can mean the desire to escape from school for not having reason to attend it. According to Piaget's theory, the process of creation and of new discoveries is being driven by affection. The creation itself is the result of the interaction and balance between assimilation and accommodation, thus representing a new adaptation, which integrates the affective and cognitive aspect. The process of imagination, creation, invention toward new discoveries depends on how the school performs the necessary referrals for a stimulating environment of creativity. In this sense, we should always rely on the support of a team of professionals prepared to offer a quality education that aims a full human development.

Educational practices that develop creativity depend on good teacher training. Teachers should be able to value the potential of their students. Teacher can promote a work with creative educational practices for this which it is necessary to develop in their students the ability to think in terms of possibility to explore various consequences and suggest changes and improvements to their own ideas. Teacher is a facilitator of the teaching-learning process and encourages the interests of their students. He/she should respect their feelings and emotions, allowing that each student has the freedom to express themselves in class in a positive emotional climate. Teacher should respect his/her students in accordance with their needs. Needs can be cognitive, social or emotional. It is possible to emphasize the importance of ludic teaching to attend psychological, cognitive, emotional and social needs of gifted students. Through ludic teaching, teachers can incite the desire to learn of these children and help them to develop their creative potential.

Many children who are victimized by their peers do not tell their teachers. Subsequently, teacher intervention and support are not likely to take place. To investigate the role teachers can play to promote disclosure by victimized students, we examined (1) the prevalence of disclosure to teachers, and (2) the extent to which teachers' responses towards bullying longitudinally predict victimized students' disclosure to their teacher. Participants were 874 Dutch primary school students (Grades 4-6) who reported being victimized, and their teachers. Of the victimized students, 76.8% reported that they disclosed to someone and 58.3% of them told their teacher. Multilevel binary logistic regression among all victimized students and a subsample of persistently victimized students (n = 316) revealed that neither teacher-reported active intervention nor passive intervention at T1 predicted victimized students' likelihood to disclose to their teacher at T2. Implications for future research and for practice are discussed.

This article focuses on the relationships between social justice, environmental justice, and sustainability from the local to global levels. We envision social and environmental justice as involving not only human beings, but also the rights of all species to life and respect. We advocate an ecological justice approach based on the equality and intrinsic value of all existence. This standpoint also forefronts core values and world views of marginalized people and epistemologies, such as Indigenous knowledge systems. With the understanding that there is much heterogeneity among Indigenous communities and individuals, we delve into core commonalities which embrace the perspective that humanity's relation to the cosmos is ever-salient, that the Earth is a living being, and all species, as interconnected co-habitants of Earth, are intelligent, equal, and divine.

This study aims to highlight the importance of creativity in education of gifted children. Gifted students are generally individuals that talk with uncertainty because they are always looking for solutions and discoveries for their varied researches in their area of interest. These students need educational practices that develop creativity and enable to incite their complex thinking. These practices require measures that instigate their curiosity and promote activities that represent challenges during classes. Creativity is essential for their education because the development of creativity in teaching can generate possibilities of well-being for it arouses curiosity, excitement and desire to learn from each individual. It is important that teachers are prepared to attend these children and encourage gifted students to have a creative and autonomous spirit and exercise a critical and reflective thinking about the process of teaching and learning.

At most time, gifted student remains hidden in the classroom, without voice and no right to a quality education. The current educational reality can be considered a barrier to the development of creativity at school and the worst thing is that this student often does not have access to specialized service because he/she is not identified. In this sense, this research aims to highlight opportunities of identification and inclusion for gifted children. The conclusion is that the elucidation of the gifted child's needs can help many teachers to improve teaching strategies that foster creativity of this child and incite their curiosity and their desire to learn. From the moment that this child is identified, there will be the possibility of having access to specialized service so that their special needs can be attended. It is essential that teachers are prepared to promote a quality education that attends each dimension of development of gifted student. This way is possible to identify and include this child at school.

This research aims to highlight the importance of developing creativity in the school environment by promoting quality education to gifted students, with contributions from Vygotsky and Piaget. For Vygotsky creativity is inherent in the human condition, and it is the most important activity because it is the expression of consciousness, thought and language. It is the highest expression of subjectivity (Vygotsky, 2010). According to Piagetian theory, Stoltz (2013) points out that although the source of creativity is a mystery to Piaget, it manifests itself doubly: in the construction of knowledge structures and construction of real or structure and cognitive functioning. The method of this research is a bibliographic study of the area of high ability/giftedness, the cultural-historical theory of Vygotsky and Piaget's genetic epistemology. We conclude that for Vygotsky (2008) as well as for Piaget (1968) the environment has essential importance to the development of creative potential. In the environment the child has his/her experiences that stimulate curiosity, desire to learn, fantasy and imagination. The teacher should enable gifted students to share their high abilities with their couple performing challenging activities in a stimulating and responsive environment.

The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to examine narrative responses of participants (n = 83) to the prompts of the career construction interview for manifest interests. We compared our analyzed results of narrative responses to participant Strong Interest Inventory-College Profile results to determine correlational strength. The results indicated a 0.27 overall correlation between the two assessments, demonstrating that some questions from the career construction interview are more and less effective in assessing manifest interests. Results from this study provide efficacy evidence for the combination of interest inventories and the career construction interview in assessing clients' manifest interests.

The basis of this study is Kelley's (1992) two-dimensional model, which measures five follower types. Previous investigations did not support the validity of Kelley's model. Although the model is utilized in research, the validity and reliability of the Kelley Followership Questionnaire (KFQ) is still in question. In this study, the KFQ validity was tested after revision of the instrument. Factor analysis revealed a three-factor model disputing the theorized two-factor model. Factors of the KFQ-R convergent validity were supported by significant correlations with critical thinking disposition and work engagement scales. This research project is intended to promote the study of the followership construct.

Inclusion of gifted students depends on several aspects to happen in the school context, and one of the most important aspects to include these children at school is creative educational practices. Teaching with art is a good possibility to make children feel motivated to attend school. In the school context, the inclusion of these children could mean an important progress for science in various fields of knowledge. But many schools are still not prepared to attend gifted, and without even realizing it, they have exclusive and discouraging educational practices for attending these students. In this sense, this research aims to emphasize the importance of good teacher training for developing creativity of gifted students at school. The method of this research was based on a study of national and international bibliographic researches focused on the area of High Abilities/Giftedness, inclusive education and Creativity. It is concluded that the inclusion of gifted students depends on a good teacher work developing creativity during their classes. The teacher as a principal mediator of the teaching-learning process should provide creative educational practices emphasizing artistic activities such as painting, drawings, theater among other practices for attending gifted children. Only in this way can these students develop their curiosity and desire to attend classes at school.

Creativity is an essential attribute for the development of creative potential. However, it is not always developed properly in the school context, especially when it is about gifted students education. Because these children need a specialized service to attend their special needs. In this sense, this study aims to contribute in order that education professionals reflect and become aware of the importance of creativity in education. The method of this research was based on national and international studies which focused on the area of High Abilities/Giftedness and creativity in the school context. The conclusion is that the development of creativity depends on a good teacher education in preparing activities that arouse curiosity and interest of each gifted, enabling the student creative and independent, investigative and critical thinking. Furthermore, teachers should provide new opportunities of reflection on the process of teaching and learning.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of an Arabic version of the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS) using a Jordanian sample. The sample included 233 Jordanian citizens with Arabic as their native language. The final model revealed a moderate fit (root mean square error of approximation = 0.072) and was within the ranges of all previously reported fit indexes. The results indicated that the internal consistency estimates for the 4 scales of concern, control, curiosity, and confidence ranged from, 0.737 to 0.867. Positive correlations were found between the number of reported jobs held by participants and the scales of concern, control, and curiosity. In addition, the reported global job satisfaction was positively correlated with the concern, control, and confidence scales. The findings of this study revealed that the validity and internal consistency of the career adapt-abilities model were replicated in the Jordanian context.

Inclusive education has brought new challenges for teachers, including the search for a suitable place in the classroom for children with externalizing problems. In the current study, we examined whether a careful rearrangement of the classroom seats could promote social acceptance and more prosocial behaviors for children with externalizing problems, and limit the potential negative consequences for classmates sitting next to them. The sample of this randomized controlled trial consisted of 64 classrooms with 221 fourth- to sixth-grade children selected by their teachers because of elevated levels of externalizing behavior. Results showed that over time children with externalizing behavior were better liked by their seatmates and showed fewer externalizing problems according to the teacher. This was particularly the case when students sat next to a well-liked and prosocial buddy, or when they were initially disliked. Classmates who sat next to a child with externalizing problems did not become more aggressive or less prosocial over time. Yet their social status did decrease slightly over time as a result of the rearrangement. We discuss implications and future directions for research on classroom seating arrangements to support children with externalizing problems.

The author argues for school-based violence prevention programming that addresses the unique predicament faced by male youth when they are asked to adopt attitudes and behaviours that may contradict traditional socialized notions of masculinity. Studies based on the Gender Role Conflict Scale (GRCS) and the Masculine Gender Role Stress Scale (MRGSS) are reviewed. The article also reviews recent research findings suggesting that boys respond differently to violence prevention programming in schools compared to girls. Tentative suggestions are made for violence prevention programming components that address the specific identity needs of male youth.

It is often a challenge for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as it is for many individuals with disabilities, to participate in activities such as physical education class or community sports with typically developing peers. As such, activities that do not require high skill levels and team environments have been recommended for individuals with ASD. Rock climbing allows individuals of all abilities and skill levels to participate. The purpose of this pilot study was to: (a) explore the impact of a community-based rock climbing intervention on adolescents with ASD, and (b) examine the social validity of rock climbing as a community-based activity for adolescents with ASD. Ten adolescents participated in a 4-week rock climbing program (1x/week). During each session, the following were recorded: (a) a task analysis, (b) resting and working heart rates, and (c) pre/post cancellation test to assess attention. Parents participated in a focus group and completed a social validity scale (IRP-15) following the last session. Demographic and IRP-15 data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, exercise intensity was established for each participant using American College of Sports Medicine guidelines, and pre/post-test cancellation test scores were compared using a Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The focus group session was transcribed and then reviewed to identify themes among responses. Results indicated that 6/10 participants were working at moderate aerobic capacity. No statistically significant differences were observed in attention test scores, although 6/10 participants improved. All of the parents strongly agreed/agreed that rock climbing was a good activity to address participation.
