Abstract A controllable approach that combines surface plasmon resonance and two-dimensional (2D) graphene/MoS2 heterojunction has not been implemented despite its potential for efficient photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. In this study, plasmonic Ag-decorated 2D MoS2 nanosheets were vertically grown on graphene substrates in a practical large-scale manner through metalorganic chemical vapor deposition of MoS2 and thermal evaporation of Ag. The plasmonic Ag-decorated MoS2 nanosheets on graphene yielded up to 10 times higher photo-to-dark current ratio than MoS2 nanosheets on indium tin oxide. The significantly enhanced PEC activity could be attributed to the synergetic effects of SPR and favorable graphene/2D MoS2 heterojunction. Plasmonic Ag nanoparticles not only increased visible-light and near-infrared absorption of 2D MoS2, but also induced highly amplified local electric field intensity in 2D MoS2. In addition, the vertically aligned 2D MoS2 on graphene acted as a desirable heterostructure for efficient separation and transportation of photo-generated carriers. This study provides a promising path for exploiting the full potential of 2D MoS2 for practical large-scale and efficient PEC water-splitting applications.

The morphology of MoS2 nanostructures was manipulated from thin films to vertically aligned few-layer nanosheets on graphene, in a controllable and practical manner, using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. The effects of graphene layer and MoS2 morphology on photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance were systematically studied on the basis of electronic structure and transitions, carrier dynamic behavior, and PEC measurements. The heterojunction quality of the graphene/vertical few-layer MoS2 nanosheets was ensured by low-temperature growth at 250−300 °C, resulting in significantly improved charge transfer properties. As a result, the PEC photocurrent density and photoconversion efficiency of the few-layer MoS2 nanosheets significantly increased upon the insertion of a graphene layer. Among the graphene/MoS2 samples, the few-layer MoS2 nanosheet samples exhibited shorter carrier lifetimes and smaller charge transfer resistances than the thin film samples, suggesting that vertically aligned nanosheets provide highly conductive edges as an efficient pathway for photo-generated carriers and have better electronic contact with graphene. In addition, the height of vertical MoS2 nanosheets on graphene should be controlled within the carrier diffusion length (~200 nm) to achieve the optimal PEC performance. These results can be utilized effectively to exploit the full potential of two-dimensional MoS2 for various PEC applications.

Aquaporins are important and well-studied water channel membrane proteins. However, being membrane proteins, sample preparation for functional analysis is tedious and time-consuming. In this paper, we report a new approach for the co-translational insertion of two aquaporins from Escherichia coli and Nicotiana tabacum using the CFPS system. This was done in the presence of liposomes with a modified procedure to form homogenous proteo-liposomes suitable for functional analysis of water permeability using stopped-flow spectrophotometry. Two model aquaporins, AqpZ and NtPIP2;1, were successfully incorporated into the liposome in their active forms. Shifted green fluorescent protein was fused to the C-terminal part of AqpZ to monitor its insertion and status in the lipid environment. This new fast approach offers a fast and straightforward method for the functional analysis of aquaporins in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.

The analysis of fast fluorescence kinetics, specifically through the JIP test, is a valuable tool for identifying and characterizing plant stress. However, interpreting OJIP data requires a comprehensive understanding of their underlying theory. This study proposes a Machine Learning-based approach using a One-Class Support Vector Machine anomaly detection model to effectively categorize OJIP measurements into "normal", representing healthy plants, and "anomalies". This approach was validated using a previously published dataset. A subgroup of the identified "anomalies" was clearly linked to stress-induced reductions in photosynthesis. Furthermore, the percentage of these "anomalies" showed a meaningful correlation with both the progression and severity of stress. The increased use of wireless technology causes a significant exposure increase for all living organisms to radio frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF). This comprises bacteria, animals, and also plants. Unfortunately, our understanding of how RF-EMF influences plants and plant physiology remains inadequate. In this study, we examined the effects of RF-EMF radiation on lettuce plants (Lactuca sativa) in both indoor and outdoor environments using the frequency ranges of 1890–1900 MHz (DECT) at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (Wi-Fi). Under greenhouse conditions, RF-EMF exposure had only a minor impact on fast chlorophyll fluorescence kinetics and no effect on plant flowering time. In contrast, lettuce plants exposed to RF-EMF in the field showed a significant and systemic decrease in photosynthetic efficiency and accelerated flowering time compared to the control groups. Gene expression analysis revealed significant down-regulation of two stress-related genes in RF-EMF-exposed plants: violaxanthin de-epoxidase (VDE) and zeaxanthin epoxidase (ZEP). RF-EMF-exposed plants had lower Photosystem II's maximal photochemical quantum yield (FV/FM) and non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) than control plants under light stress conditions. This bound is sharp for any n. In this work, the adsorptive removal of methylene blue and methyl orange by UiO-66-NO2 nanoparticles was studied. The influence of pH on the adsorption capacity was assessed. The kinetics of the adsorption process were investigated and compared with pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich, and intraparticle models. The kinetics of the adsorption fits moderately with the pseudo-first-order, but perfectly fits with pseudo-second-order models, and has a very good fit with the Elovich and intraparticle models. The adsorption isotherms were measured and compared with the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The adsorption capacity of methyl orange (MO) on UiO-66-NO2 nanoparticles (142.9 mg/g) was over three times higher than that of methylene blue (MB) on the nanoparticles (41.7 mg/g). The discrepancy between these capacities was attributed to the presence of the -NO2 functional group, which caused a strong negative mesomeric effect in the metal-organic framework structure. To ascertain hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection rates for Vietnam, we surveyed HBV markers in two districts of Thanh Hoa province. We randomly selected 536 infants (9- < or = 18 months old), 228 children (4 to < or = 6 years old), 219 adolescents (14 to < or = 16 years old), and 596 adults (25 to < or = 40 years old). On questioning, none of those surveyed had received vaccine against HBV. Hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) and total HBV core antibody (anti-HBc) were measured in all specimens, and HBV e antigen (HBeAg) in those positive for HBsAg, and HBV surface antibody (anti-HBs) were measured in all others. Current infection (HBsAg+) rates were infants = 12.5%, children = 18.4%, adolescents = 20.5%, and adults = 18.8%. Current or previous infection (HBsAg+, anti-HBc+, or anti-HBs+) increased with age (infants = 19.6%, children = 36.4%, adolescents = 55.3%, adults = 79.2%). Rates of HBeAg among those HBsAg+ were infants = 85.1%, children = 88.1%, adolescents = 71.1%, and adults = 30.4%. The epidemiology of HBV in Vietnam resembles that of many southeast Asian nations before introduction of vaccine. Immunization of newborns will have enormous impact on HBV-related morbidity and mortality there.
