Uygun bir kontrolör tipinin seçimi, katsayılarının belirlenmesi ve gerekirse ayarlanması kontrol sistemlerinin tasarımında önemli bir konudur. Tasarlanan bir denetleyiciye sahip kapalı-döngü sistemin istenen bazı zaman/frekans cevabı kriterlerini sağlayıp sağlamadığını hızlı bir şekilde kontrol etmek, öğrenci/tasarımcı için zaman kazandıracaktır. Bu makalede, kullanıcı tarafından tanımlanan sistemler ve parametreleri değiştirilebilen farklı tipteki denetleyiciler ile elde edilen kapalı-döngü sistemlerin benzetimlerini gerçekleştirmek için etkileşimli bir kontrol sistem simülatörü tasarlanmıştır. Simülatör, kullanıcının tek veya karşılaştırmalı olarak tanımlanan farklı sistemler için kapalı-döngü sistemin zaman/frekans cevabını görmesini ve istenen bazı zaman/frekans domeni kriterlerinin sağlayıp sağlamadığını hızlı bir şekilde kontrol etmesine imkân vermektedir. Ayrıca, simülatör bozucu giriş cevabını ve ölçme gürültüsünün etkisini referans giriş cevabı ile birlikte karşılaştırmalı olarak görme olanağını da sağlamaktadır. Böylece farklı denetleyicilerin analizi ve karşılaştırılması, ayrıca da kontrol sistemlerinin öğretilmesi kolay, hızlı ve etkin bir şekilde gerçekleştirilebilecektir., Selection of a suitable controller type, determination of its coefficients and adjustment if necessary is an important issue in the design of control systems. Quickly checking whether the closed-loop system with a designed controller meets some desired time/frequency response criteria will save time for the student/designer. In this paper, an interactive control system simulator is designed to perform the simulations for closed-loop systems obtained with user-defined systems and different types of controllers whose parameters can be changed. The simulator allows the user to see the time/frequency response of the closed-loop system for different systems defined as single or comparatively and check whether some desired time/frequency domain criteria are satisfied, quickly. In addition, the simulator allows the possibility to see the disturbance input response and the effect of the measurement noise altogether with the reference input response, comparatively. Thus, analysis and comparison of different controllers and also teaching of control systems will be performed easily, quickly and effectively by using the simulator.

Enerji sistemlerinde güç akışı, önemliproblemlerden biridir. Bu problemin çözümü için farklı klasik çözümlemeyöntemlerinden faydalanılmaktadır. Ancak sistemdeki jeneratörlerin güç üretmelimitleri, valf yükleme etkileri gibi parametreler güç akışı probleminin ilgiliyollarla çözümünü zorlaştırmaktadır. Bu durumda evrimsel algoritmalarla enuygun çözümleri gerçekleştirmek mümkün olabilmektedir. Gerçekleştirilençalışmada optimal güç akışı problemlerinin çözümü, iki farklı durumda 30 baralıIEEE test sisteminde güncel evrimsel algoritmalar ile eşit başlangıçşartlarıyla karşılaştırmalı olarak gerçekleştirilmiş ve ilgili algoritmalarınperformans değerlendirmeleri yapılmıştır. Algoritmaların enerji kazanımlarıelde edilmiş; optimizasyon sonucunda elde edilen en iyi, en kötü ve ortalamadeğerleri hesaplanmış; yakınsama analizleri karşılaştırmalı olarakgerçekleştirilmiştir. Böylece optimal güç akışı probleminin çözümünde evrimselalgoritmaların etkinlik ve verimlilikleri açıkça ortaya konulmuştur., Powerflow in energy systems is one of the major problems. Several classical analysismethods are utilized for solving this problem. However, power generationlimits, valve loading effects of units also makes the power flow problem becomemuch harder to solve in the system. In this case, it is possible to achieve themost appropriate solutions with evolutionary algorithms. In this study, optimalpower flow problems are solved under same beginning conditions, comprehensivelyperformed with evolutionary algorithms which are recently used and associatedalgorithm performance is analyzed in IEEE 30-bus test system for two cases.Energy gains of algorithms are obtained; the best, worst and mean values foundfrom optimization are evaluated; convergence analyses are performedcomparatively. Thus the effectiveness and efficiency of evolutionary algorithmsare clearly demonstrated on solution of optimal power flow problems.

Especially in energy and power systems, harmonic estimation has crucial role. Many techniques developed in the subject of harmonic and inter-harmonic estimation. These techniques and methods include mathematical transformation (Fourier, Hartley, Hilbert-Huang, etc.) filters (adaptive, Kalman, etc.) and parametric methods (Prony, ADALINE, MUSIC, etc.) In realized study, performance of ADALINE and Prony methods are investigated in terms of harmonic and inter-harmonic prediction capability. Required data for simulations are produced from P&O MPPT algorithm for photovoltaic systems. Therefore, this model gives opportunity to try compared methods according to different harmonic intensity (closeness of harmonics to each other). At the result of different simulations, it is observed that Prony method is more preferable for low number of data and ADALINE produces more successful results than Prony method if there is high number of data and selection of high neuron size relatively., Özellikle enerji ve güç sistemlerinde harmonik kestirimi, önemli rol oynamaktadır. Harmonik ve ara harmoniklerin kestirimi konusunda birçok yöntem ve teknik geliştirilmiştir. Bunlar arasında matematiksel dönüşümler (Fourier, Hartley, Hilbert-Huang vb.), filtrelemeler (adaptif, Kalman vb.) ve parametrik yöntemler (Prony, ADALINE, MUSIC vb.) yer almaktadırlar. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada; Prony ve ADALINE yöntemlerinin ara harmonik kestirimindeki performansları incelenmiştir. Benzetimler için gerekli veriler, fotovoltaik sistemler için uygulanan P&O MPPT algoritmasından üretilmektedir. Böylece bu model; karşılaştırılan yöntemleri farklı harmonik içerik yoğunlukları (harmoniklerin birbirine yakınlıkları) açısından deneme olanağı vermektedir. Farklı benzetimlerle yapılan karşılaştırmalar sonucunda, veri sayısının düşük olduğu durumlarda Prony yönteminin daha tercih edilebilir olduğu; yüksek olduğu ve görece olarak çok sayıda nöronun kullanıldığı durumlarda da ADALINE yönteminin Prony yönteminden daha başarılı sonuçlar verdiği görülmüştür.

Fiber-reinforced plastics are known as advanced composite materials thanks to their high strength and lightweight features. Carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRPs) are one of the high-performance and high-cost fiber-reinforced polymer (FRPs) materials. They are used in several high-performance engineering applications such as motorsports, marine, aviation, energy and defense industry. The cost of carbon fiber is higher compared to many other materials, more competitive and cost-effective productions will spur the demand for composite parts exponentially. Thus, hybrid laminate composite containing carbon and glass fiber materials were manufactured as an alternative for CFRP materials. Because using glass fiber prepreg instead of carbon fiber prepreg will lead the material to become cheaper. However, machining of the FRP materials is still an important issue. 19. A New Hybrid Method for Signal Estimation Based on Haar Transform and Prony Analysis.

The signal estimation is very important in electrical and electronic engineering. In this study, it is shown that signal parameters’ (frequency, amplitude, and phase) estimation can be realized with the implementation of Prony method on Haar transform coefficients. In order to accomplish this, mathematical relationship between roots of Prony polynomial which are found with original signal values and roots which are calculated with Haar approximation/detail coefficients is constructed. Frequency components of signal are estimated with this relationship. Next, the second part of Prony algorithm which constructs the matrix equation between roots and signal values in order to find the amplitude and phase values is implemented with Haar coefficients. In other words, a new matrix equation is derived for finding amplitudes and phases with the found roots in the first step and Haar coefficients. Thus, implementations of the first and second steps give signal parameters. Derived equations are valid for all degrees of Haar coefficients not just the first one. The use of Haar coefficients decreases the data size and increases the speed and accuracy. The proposed method is also more robust of selection of different Prony polynomial coefficient sizes. The present work deals with temperature effects and parametric optimization in the drilling of continuous glass fiber reinforced epoxy composite. Drilling ability was examined operating a drilling system with different drill bits, feed rate, and spindle speed parameters. The investigation was performed by changing the tool and composite interface. Drilling experiments were carried out under the dry condition. Thrust force and drilling temperatures were measured using dynamometer and thermal camera. Peel-up and push-out delamination were evaluated using an image analyzing tool. Results show that the tribo-mechanical behavior of the drilling operation is affected at different levels by tool coating. This behavior is related to the intrinsic friction properties of coating nature. Response surface methodology was used in the evaluation of experiment results. The feed rate of 0.13 mm/rev, spindle speed of 2425 rpm and HSS-TiN drill bit are found as an optimum drilling parameters and drill type. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to systematically investigate the abrasive wear performance of composite material with multi-layer polyester fiber interweaving and PTFE particle reinforced polyester matrix under dry friction conditions. Abrasive wear performance experimentally investigated by applying the block on ring test method depending on the direction of fiber weaving. The test material exposed to pure water, mineral oil, HNO3, and NH3 for 1, 2, 3, 4 weeks. The sliding distances and test durations were determined to be 2.26, 4.52, 6.78 and 9.04 km, 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours respectively. The best wear resistance was obtained in the perpendicular direction to the fiber reinforcement. While HNO3 and NH3 environments significantly decrease the wear resistance, oil and pure water environments increase the wear resistance by lubricant effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The parameter estimation of signals is one of important topics in electrical and electronics engineering area. For the estimation of main/fundamental parameters (amplitude, frequency and phase) of signals, many methods and techniques proposed. In this study, educational simulator for frequency estimation of signals is realized with artificial neural networks. Artificial neural networks are used for training Prony coefficients. Designed simulator is written in MATLAB and effects of neural net parameters (cost function, activation function, neuron size, etc.) on learning ability can be compared. Sistem denetimi alanında PID (oransal-integral-türevsel) kontrolörler önemli yer tutmaktadır. Sistemin zaman veya frekans bölgesi verilerinden faydalanılarak; sistem özelliklerine uygun, belirli ölçütler altında, bu tür kontrolörlerin tasarımı için Ziegler-Nichols, Cohen-Coon, Chien Hrones Reswick (CHR), Wang-Juang-Chan gibi değişik yöntemler mevcuttur. Bilgisayar ve yapay zekâ alanındaki gelişmelere paralel olarak genetik algoritmaların da kontrol sistemlerindeki uygulamaları artmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, PID kontrolörlerin tasarımları hem klasik yöntemlerle hem de genetik algoritmalarla gerçekleştirilerek karşılaştırmalı sonuçlar analiz edilmiştir. Bu doğrultuda, eğitim amaçlı da kullanılabilecek grafiksel arayüz programı tasarlanmıştır. Program ile transfer fonksiyonları girilen sistemler için uygun P, PI ve PID kontrolör katsayıları hem seçilen klasik yöntemlerle hem de genetik algoritmalarla hesaplanmakta; sisteme ait birçok parametre ve cevap eğrileri hem sayısal hem de grafiksel olarak karşılaştırmalı sunulabilmektedir, PID (Proportional Integral and Derivative) controllers take an important place in the field of system controlling. Various methods such as Ziegler-Nichols, Cohen-Coon, Chien Hrones Reswick (CHR) and Wang-Juang-Chan are available for the design of such controllers benefiting from the system time and frequency domain data. These controllers are in compliance with system properties under certain criteria suitable to the system. Genetic algorithms have become widely used in control system applications in parallel to the advances in the field of computer and artificial intelligence. In this study, PID controller designs have been carried out by means of classical methods and genetic algorithms and comparative results have been analyzed. For this purpose, a graphical user interface program which can be used for educational purpose has been developed. For the definite (entered) transfer functions, the suitable P, PI and PID controller coefficients have calculated by both classical methods and genetic algorithms and many parameters and responses of the systems have been compared and presented numerically and graphically

During the last decade, metaheuristic algorithms have occupied an important place in the field of optimization. Function minimization is of importance to researchers since many real-world problems can be modeled mathematically and be solved effectively through metaheuristic algorithms. Due to the growing scientific interest in the field of optimization and the good performances shown by the algorithms on function minimization, the practical and quick implementation concept is necessary to select the most appropriate algorithms on function minimization, and to assist researchers in analyzing the performance of the algorithms. In this study, a tool is developed to minimize user-defined functions in a specified range according to the chosen metaheuristic algorithms, which allows analyzing the algorithms in the general experimental environment. The tool, which has a user-friendly interface, can provide single and comparative solutions by simultaneously executing the algorithms. Each solution and computational time obtained by the algorithms is given numerically, and the convergence behavior of the algorithms is shown graphically in the tool interface. Inter-harmonics which exist in non-integer multiples of main harmonics cause power quality problems. In this study, in order to overcome power quality problems, ESPRIT algorithm which is one of the methods used for inter-harmonic detection which couldn't be accomplished by conventional spectrum analysis methods such as Fast Fourier Transform was realized in MATLAB environment. Software which was prepared in MATLAB environment has properties which are creating input signals, importing external signals, plotting frequency spectrum which is computed from obtained values with ESPRIT and presenting relative error rate of real signal values and ESPRIT algorithm values. In order to calculate/measure the fundamental harmonic power values, the wavelet transform based methods have been proposed in the literature. However, the fundamental harmonic of voltage and cur-rent signals cannot be decomposed into real and imaginary components in any of these methods based on only wavelet packet transform. It is required to decompose voltage and current signals with harmonics to real and imaginary components in a power system for power quality and control. In this study real and imaginary components are obtained by using the wavelet packet transform. Furthermore, the fundamental active-reactive-apparent powers are determined with two different methods and accurateness of the proposed methods is demonstrated via simulations.

Increase in the number of nonlinear loads and devices in energy and power systems have raised harmonic distortion on voltage and current signals. Harmonics are one of the primary factors in determining power quality. Therefore, measurement and control of harmonics are crucial. Many methods have developed for harmonic analysis. In this study, a simulator which uses Hartley transform for determining harmonics is designed. Harmonic distributions and parameters of loaded/defined signals can be calculated accurately and effectively and obtained results can be displayed numerically and graphically with developed systems which have user friendly interface. Computers are widely used for educational purposes. Multimedia tools and simulations are mostly preferred for learning especially hard and complex structures in technical field and hardly realized experiments in laboratory environment. Besides, supporting theoretical knowledge with practical applications is crucial in engineering education. But, effects of negative conditions such as hardware deficiency (experimental gadgets, measuring instruments, etc.) in education environment, high number of students, less number of educators can be diminished with concepts which are distance education, computer-aided education, etc. In this study, web-based educational tool which is oriented to signals and systems subjects/courses is realized. This tool provides learning of signals and systems subjects with its subject descriptions, solved/unsolved problems, animations, simulations, interactive simulators, real-time applications, general exams, online communication/support, and new educational strategy in easy, simple, and effective way. Usability and educational contribution of realized study was inspected with questionnaires which were filled anonymously by 110 students in Uludag University and assessed according to SUS and Likert scales. ABSTRACT In the science and engineering, supporting theoretical knowledge with practical information is crucial. Thus, there are laboratory courses together with theoretical lectures in engineering education. However, laboratory applications can't give expected successful results because of insufficient laboratory environment of educational institutions, excessive number of students etc. Depending on the developments in the computer field, concepts such as computer aided education, computer-assisted learning, computer-aided engineering have gained importance. In the carried out study, remote accessible virtual laboratory consisting of six modules is designed for power electronics courses. Realized software which can run online or offline and includes almost forty circuits (rectifiers, dc-dc converters, ac-ac converters, dc-ac converters, power supplies) belongs to power electronics field. Detailed analysis and applications can be realized with the virtual laboratory which also contains description of subjects, animations, online support, environment for preparing lab reports etc. The software is available in Uludag University, 111 undergraduate students and 17 faculty members tested it separately without requesting their personal information. Power flow in energy systems is one of the major problems. Several classical analysis methods are utilized for solving this problem. However, power generation limits, valve loading effects of units also makes the power flow problem become much harder to solve in the system. In this case, it is possible to achieve the most appropriate solutions with evolutionary algorithms. In this study, optimal power flow problems are solved under same beginning conditions, comprehensively performed with evolutionary algorithms which are recently used and associated algorithm performance is analyzed in IEEE 30-bus test system for two cases. Energy gains of algorithms are obtained; the best, worst and mean values found from optimization are evaluated; convergence analyses are performed comparatively. Thus the effectiveness and efficiency of evolutionary algorithms are clearly demonstrated on solution of optimal power flow problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The noise is one of the important factors that affect negatively the operation of circuits and systems. There are different methods and techniques for cancelling/reducing/de-noising these unwanted signals that mix with the original signal. In this study, an application/simulator that performs noise cancellation operations with least mean-squares algorithms was designed. The application, which has powerful visual support and a user-friendly interactive interface, can make single or comparative noise cancellation operations and performance analyzes with different algorithms on noisy signals. The effects of the algorithm parameters can be observed, information about the related algorithms can be obtained via the developed application that can also be used for educational purpose., Devre ve sistemlerin işleyişlerini olumsuz yönde etkileyen önemli faktörlerden birisi de gürültülerdir. Orijinal işarete karışan bu istenmeyen işaretlerin arındırılması/azaltılması/temizlenmesi için farklı yöntem ve teknikler mevcuttur. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada, en küçük karesel ortalama algoritmalarıyla gürültü arındırma işlemlerini gerçekleştiren bir uygulama/simülatör tasarlanmıştır. Control of systems is very important in applications. For this purpose appropriate controllers need to be designed. PIDs are the most popular controllers and there are traditional methods for their design. In recent years, metaheuristic algorithms also have been used to tuning the PID coefficients. In this study, an interactive graphical user interface program was designed, which makes the design of PID type controllers with six up-to-date metaheuristic algorithms according to different performance criteria. The controller coefficients can be tuned easily, quickly and effectively with this software tool that performs single or comparative designs, provides numerical and graphical solutions, and enables detailed analysis and synthesis. Uygulamalarda sistemlerin kontrolü son derece önemlidir. Bu amaçla uygun denetleyicilerin tasarlanması gerekmektedir. En popüler denetleyicilerin başında PID'ler gelmektedir ve bunların tasarımı için geleneksel yöntemler mevcuttur. Son yıllarda PID katsayılarının ayarlanması için metasezgisel algoritmalardan da faydalanılmaktadır. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada PID türü denetleyicilerin tasarımını, farklı performans kriterlerine göre altı güncel metasezgisel algoritma ile yapan etkileşimli grafiksel kullanıcı arayüz programı tasarlanmıştır. Tekli veya karşılaştırmalı tasarımlar gerçekleştiren, sayısal ve grafiksel çözümler sunan, ayrıntılı analiz ve sentezlere olanak sağlayan bu yazılım aracıyla denetleyici katsayılarının ayarlanması kolay, hızlı ve etkin şekilde yapılabilmektedir.

Especially in energy and power systems, harmonic estimation has crucial role. Many techniques developed in the subject of harmonic and inter-harmonic estimation. These techniques and methods include mathematical transformation (Fourier, Hartley, Hilbert-Huang, etc.) filters (adaptive, Kalman, etc.) and parametric methods (Prony, ADALINE, MUSIC, etc.) In realized study, performance of ADALINE and Prony methods are investigated in terms of harmonic and inter-harmonic prediction capability. Required data for simulations are produced from P&O MPPT algorithm for photovoltaic systems. Therefore, this model gives opportunity to try compared methods according to different harmonic intensity (closeness of harmonics to each other). At the result of different simulations, it is observed that Prony method is more preferable for low number of data and ADALINE produces more successful results than Prony method if there is high number of data and selection of high neuron size relatively. Özellikle enerji ve güç sistemlerinde harmonik kestirimi, önemli rol oynamaktadır. Harmonik ve ara harmoniklerin kestirimi konusunda birçok yöntem ve teknik geliştirilmiştir. Bunlar arasında matematiksel dönüşümler (Fourier, Hartley, Hilbert-Huang vb.), filtrelemeler (adaptif, Kalman vb.) ve parametrik yöntemler (Prony, ADALINE, MUSIC vb.) yer almaktadırlar. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada; Prony ve ADALINE yöntemlerinin ara harmonik kestirimindeki performansları incelenmiştir. Benzetimler için gerekli veriler, fotovoltaik sistemler için uygulanan P&O MPPT algoritmasından üretilmektedir. Böylece bu model; karşılaştırılan yöntemleri farklı harmonik içerik yoğunlukları (harmoniklerin birbirine yakınlıkları) açısından deneme olanağı vermektedir. Farklı benzetimlerle yapılan karşılaştırmalar sonucunda, veri sayısının düşük olduğu durumlarda Prony yönteminin daha tercih edilebilir olduğu; yüksek olduğu ve görece olarak çok sayıda nöronun kullanıldığı durumlarda da ADALINE yönteminin Prony yönteminden daha başarılı sonuçlar verdiği görülmüştür.

Inverters which convert DC voltage into AC voltage are widely used in the field of power electronics. During the conversion from DC voltage to AC voltage, some of the harmonics can occur. Harmonics which are one of the most important parameters in the field of energy/power systems determine the power quality. Therefore, one of the crucial steps is the elimination/suppression of harmonics in the outputs of the inverters. It is required to solve complex equations with multiple variables in this elimination process. In this study, a software is developed and eight different metaheuristic algorithms/approaches (backtracking search, cuckoo search, electromagnetic field optimization, harmony search, Harris hawks optimization, interior search, vortex search, Yin-Yang-pair optimization) are used for the elimination of the chosen harmonics by determining suitable switching angles. The desired harmonics are eliminated in the chosen inverter circuits via the software with a user-friendly interface easily, fast and effectively, and the results can be observed both numerically and graphically through the this software. DC gerilimi AC gerilime dönüştüren eviriciler (invertörler), güç elektroniği alanında en çok kullanılan devre türlerinin başında gelmektedir. Anahtarlamalarla DC gerilimden AC gerilime dönüşüm esnasında, çıkış geriliminde harmonikler oluşmaktadır. Harmonikler ise enerji/güç sistemlerinde güç kalitesini belirleyen parametrelerin başında yer almaktadır. Dolayısıyla evirici devrelerinin çıkışındaki harmoniklerin elenmesi/bastırılması önem arz etmektedir. Bu eleme işleminde ise çok değişkenli karmaşık denklem sistemlerinin çözülmesi gerekmektedir. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada, seçilen harmonikleri elemek için en uygun anahtarlama açılarını, sekiz farklı metasezgisel algoritma/yaklaşım (geri izleme arama, guguk kuşu arama, elektromanyetik alan optimizasyonu, harmoni arama, Harris şahinleri optimizasyonu, dahili/iç arama, girdap arama, Yin-Yang-çifti optimizasyonu) ile hesaplayan yazılım geliştirilmiştir. Kullanıcı dostu arayüze sahip yazılım ile seçilen türdeki evirici devrelerinde, belirlenen harmonikler hızlı, kolay ve etkin bir şekilde elenebilmekte; sonuçlar hem sayısal hem de grafiksel olarak gözlenebilmektedir.

Stability is one of the most important parameters / factors in the field of system analysis and design. For this reason, stability analysis should be well learned and understood in engineering education as well as need to be performed perfectly in practice. In this study; a software tool has been developed that can perform absolute, relative and conditional stability analysis for single input single output linear systems based on the Routh-Hurwitz criterion. Stability analysis of the systems defined by the user can be performed easy, fast and efficiently - including all possible general and special conditions - step-by-step in detail with the designed software tool, and the results can be obtained both numerically and graphically with many parameters. Kararlılık, sistem analiz ve tasarımı alanındaki en önemli parametre / etkenlerden birisidir. Bu nedenle kararlılık analizinin hem mühendislik eğitiminde çok iyi öğrenilip kavranması hem de uygulamada kusursuz bir şekilde yapılması gerekmektedir. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada; doğrusal zamanla değişmeyen tek girişli tek çıkışlı sistemler için Routh-Hurwitz kriterine göre mutlak, göreceli ve şartlı kararlılık analizi yapabilen bir yazılım aracı geliştirilmiştir. Tasarlanan yazılım aracı ile kullanıcının tanımladığı sistemlerin kararlılık analizleri; kolay, hızlı ve etkin bir biçimde - tüm olası genel ve özel durumları içererek - ayrıntılı bir şekilde adım adım gerçekleştirebilmekte ve birçok parametreleriyle birlikte sonuçlar hem sayısal hem de grafiksel olarak elde edilebilmektedir.

Along with rapid developments in computational technologies, evolutionary/heuristic/metaheuristic algorithms have frequently used in many applications to solve optimization problems. Nowadays, new algorithms are being developed and improvements are being made to existing algorithms. In this study, chaos-based modifications have been proposed for recently developed metaheuristic algorithms: Backtracking Search (BS), Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) and Vortex Search (VS), and the algorithms have been analyzed by detailed comparisons. The proposed approaches are based on generating new values through chaos maps, rather than some random numbers normally used in the algorithms, to improve their solutions. In addition, some modifications are performed to the structural operations of the algorithms used in the optimization process by taking advantage of chaosbased values. The performances of the algorithms are evaluated by considering two metrics: convergence rates and statistical results. Experiments demonstrated that the performance of the algorithms with the proposed modifications based on the chaos approach, are better than, or at least comparable to, the original algorithms. Hesaplama teknolojilerindeki hızlı gelişmelerle orantılı olarak, optimizasyon problemlerinin çözümünde evrimsel/sezgisel/metasezgisel algoritmalardan birçok alandaki uygulamalarda sıklıkla faydalanılmaktadır. Günümüzde, yeni algoritmalar geliştirilmekte ve mevcut algoritmalara yenilikler uygulanmaya devam edilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, son zamanlarda geliştirilmiş olan metasezgisel algoritmalardan olan: Geri İzleme Arama (BS), Gri Kurt Optimizasyon (GWO) ve Girdap Arama (VS) algoritmalarına kaos tabanlı modifikasyonlar önerilmiş ve algoritmaların, kıyaslamalarla detaylı analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Önerilen yaklaşımlar, algoritmaların çözümlerini geliştirmek için işlemlerinde kullandıkları bazı rassal değişkenler yerine, kaos haritalarına dayanan yeni değişkenlerin üretilmesi temeline dayanmaktadır. Bunun yanında, kaos tabanlı bu değişkenler kullanılarak algoritmaların optimizasyon sürecinde kullandıkları yapısal işlemlerinde modifikasyonlar gerçekleştirilmektedir. Algoritmaların performansları; istatistiksel ve yakınsama hızları açısından, iki yönlü olarak analiz edilmektedir. Kaotik haritalara dayanan yaklaşımların, orijinal algoritmalar üzerinde daha iyi veya en azından karşılaştırılabilir sonuçlar ürettiği, gerçekleştirilen deneylerde gösterilmiştir.

Filtering is one of the most important processes in electrical engineering. In digital systems, there are several methods that have been developed for filter designs. In this study, a new decision making system, which can be operated online or offline, based on statistical tests are developed for choosing the most appropriate FIR filter coefficients. For this purpose, this coefficients are optimized comparatively with nine evolutionary algorithms by using combination of some of fourteen windowing and four error functions (more than six hundred different combinations) as well as can be found via nine classical methods. As the evolutionary algorithms use random variables to achieve their results, they may not always make same design on each run. Therefore, this system is need to make a valid comparison between the algorithms employed. The key feature of proposed system is artificial intelligence phase which sorts algorithms from best to worst under certain criteria according to chosen error function after using Kruskal-Wallis and multiple comparison tests. The proposed new approach in this intelligent decision making system, which can be also used for special, practical and educational purposes, gives the best results in between the algorithms for FIR filter design according to user requirements.

Many of problems in engineering and science is modeled by differential equations mathematically, therefore their solutions have an important role. Various methods have been developed for analytical or numerical solutions of differential equations. In proportion to the development of technology, the numerical solution methods are utilized widely. In particular, the main objectives in real time applications are to reach the correct solution as soon as possible with minimal processing and maximum precision. In the performed study, a simulator that contains Runge-Kutta based forty-eight methods was developed for numerical solution of differential equations. In the user friendly simulator which can be used also for educational purposes, the solution of defined differential equation under the specified initial condition with given step size or according to the number of points requested within the specified range can be obtained by the selected method. Solutions can be presented to the user both numerical (step values, computation time) and graphically; also the subject explanations about the methods/solutions can be given. Furthermore, the comparative solutions (performance analysis) can be implemented by the simulator. So, the users can realize the numerical solutions of differential equations with different methods by the simulator; the students learn the methods in this field visually with the aid of subject explanation and can implement step by step; the designers can choose the most appropriate method easily, effectively and accurately for their systems by the comparative analysis. Mühendislik ve fen bilimlerine ait problemlerinin birçoğu diferansiyel denklemlerle matematiksel olarak modellenmekte, dolayısıyla çözümleri önemli yer tutmaktadır. Diferansiyel denklemlerin analitik veya sayısal çözümleri için çok sayıda yöntemler geliştirilmiştir. Teknolojinin gelişmesiyle orantılı olarak sayısal çözüm yöntemlerinden yoğun bir şekilde faydalanılmaktadır. Özellikle gerçek zamanlı uygulamalarda en az işlemle, en kısa sürede, en yüksek hassasiyetle, en doğru çözüme ulaşmak başlıca hedeflerdendir. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada, diferansiyel denklemlerin sayısal çözümü için Runge-Kutta tabanlı 48 yöntemi içeren bir simülatör geliştirilmiştir. Kullanıcı dostu ve eğitim amaçlı da kullanılabilecek simülatörde tanımlanan diferansiyel denklemin, belirtilen başlangıç koşulu altında, verilen adım boyutu veya nokta sayısına göre, istenen aralıktaki çözümü seçilen yöntemle elde edilebilmektedir. Çözümler kullanıcıya hem sayısal (adım değerleri, hesaplama süresi vb.) hem de grafiksel olarak sunulabilmekte; bunun yanında yöntemlerle/çözümlerle ilgili konu anlatımları da verilebilmektedir. Ayrıca simülatörle karşılaştırmalı çözümler (performans analizleri) de gerçekleştirilebilmekte. Böylece simülatör ile kullanıcılar farklı yöntemlerle diferansiyel denklemlerin sayısal çözümlerini gerçekleştirebilmekte; öğrenciler bu alandaki yöntemleri konu anlatımı destekli görsel olarak öğrenip adım adım uygulayabilmekte; tasarımcılar da karşılaştırmalı analizlerle sistemleri için en uygun yöntemi kolay, etkin ve doğru bir şekilde seçebilmektedirler.

In the science and engineering, supporting theoretical knowledge with practical information is crucial. Thus, there are laboratory courses together with theoretical lectures in engineering education. However, laboratory applications can't give expected successful results because of insufficient laboratory environment of educational institutions, excessive number of students etc. Depending on the developments in the computer field, concepts such as computer aided education, computer-assisted learning, computer-aided engineering have gained importance. In the carried out study, remote accessible virtual laboratory consisting of six modules is designed for power electronics courses. Realized software which can run online or offline and includes almost forty circuits (rectifiers, dc-dc converters, ac-ac converters, dc-ac converters, power supplies) belongs to power electronics field. Detailed analysis and applications can be realized with the virtual laboratory which also contains description of subjects, animations, online support, environment for preparing lab reports etc. The software is available in Uludag University, 111 undergraduate students and 17 faculty members tested it separately without requesting their personal information. Obtained results from two questionnaires are evaluated here.

Bu çalışma, 01-03 Kasım 2012 tarihleri arasında Ankara[Türkiye]’da düzenlenen 9. International Conference on Electronics Computer and Computation (ICECCO 2012)’da bildiri olarak sunulmuştur. Different methods are available for analysis of circuits. The major ones are mesh-current, node-voltage and state-equation methods. The linear equations which are based on these methods are solved by Cramer's rule, Gauss elimination and inverse matrix. In this study, the solutions of linear systems have been carried out by means of both conventional and genetic algorithm methods. For this purpose, various simulations have been realized by designing a simulator program which can be used for educational purposes. Traditional ways of calculating/measuring harmonics in power systems have been based on Fourier Transform and algorithms, such as Fast Fourier Transform and Goertzel that implements it. In this study, a novel approach based on Wavelet Packet Transform is presented to measure Root-Mean-Square (RMS) value and phase angle of the fundamental harmonic. To this end, analytical expressions were derived and using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) designed and experimental works the validity of analytical expressions was demonstrated.
