A total of 418 fitness professionals (210 male; 208 female) with an average age of 30.9 ± 6.5 years and a professional experience of 7.72 ± 9.1 years participated in this study. Before conducting a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), we designed a test-retest analysis to determine reliability. Cronbach's alpha demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency (.96), which revealed a high degree of temporal reliability. The confirmatory analyses supported a unidimensional model (1 factor/16 item) of the JSS in terms of model adequacy coefficients. In conclusion, we found that the measurement model (1 factor/16 items) of the translation and validation of the JSS for Portuguese fitness professionals had highly acceptable psychometric properties and can be used in future to access their job satisfaction.

Purpose: An association between the use of chlorhexidine in mechanically ventilated patients for the purpose of oral hygiene and the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) lacks conclusive evidence in the literature. Therefore, this study aims to assess the clinical impact of such practice. This evaluation will consider that retention factors, infection foci, and oral biofilm will be regularly removed by a dentist. Patients and Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, a comparison was made between two groups, one using chlorhexidine and the other using saline solution. Patients from both groups included in this study were admitted between January 2016 to March 2018. Data such as the incidence of VAP, duration of mechanical ventilation (DMV), length of stay (LOS), and mortality rate (MR) were collected and compared between the groups. Only patients aged 18 or older, under mechanical ventilation for more than 48 consecutive hours were included. Were excluded from this study patients with a diagnosis of VAP or other pulmonary infection upon admission or within the first 48 hours of hospitalization. Also not included were those who stayed in the ICU for less than 48 hours. Dental treatment was carried out addressing the regular removal of retention factors, potential oral infection foci, and oral biofilm by a dentist. Additionally, at each appointment, the visible biofilm was removed by the dentist themselves, and the maintenance of oral hygiene was performed daily by the nursing staff. For the statistical analysis the non-parametric Mann–Whitney test was used for comparisons between groups regarding LOS and DMV. Additionally, the associations between groups and VAP, outcomes (discharge or death), and diseases were analyzed using the chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. A significance level of 5% was assumed. Results: In both evaluated groups, each consisting of 36 patients, the incidence of VAP was identical at 2.8%. Specifically, the chlorhexidine group had an incidence of 2.105 VAP cases per 1000 days of mechanical ventilation (MV), while the placebo group had 2.865 VAP cases per 1000 days of MV (p = 1.000). No significant difference between groups regarding LOS (p = 0.5694) and DMV (p = 0.1136) was found. There was also no significant association between the MR in the two groups (47.2% chlorhexidine, 36.1% placebo) (p=0.3390). Conclusion: When intensive oral care is performed, the use of chlorhexidine shows no significant change in VAP incidence, MR, LOS, and DMV. Therefore, the dentist, as part of the multiprofessional team, should decide on its use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MONTREAL Cognitive Assessment , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *SENSORY perception , *PERSONALITY , *EMOTION regulation - Abstract
AbstractA new model of reserve, the Sensory, Emotional, and Cognitive Reserve (SEC) model, has been recently proposed, but so far this model has not been operationalized in instruments to evaluate the different domains of the reserve. This study introduces the SEC reserve inventory (SECri) along with preliminary data obtained from a study involving 57 adults, aged 35 and older. The SECri assesses the SEC domains using specific proxies: (a) sensory reserve (SR) through sensory acuity and sensory perception proxies; (b) emotional reserve (ER) through life events, resilience, and emotional regulation proxies; and (c) cognitive reserve (CR) through education, occupation, socioeconomic status, bilingualism, leisure activities, and personality traits proxies. Key features of SECri include self- and informant-report forms, fine-grained response scales, and the evaluation of reserve development across the lifespan. Findings on the acceptability, convergent validity between SECri domains and validated tests for the same constructs, internal consistency of each domain, and predictive validity of Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores support further research with this inventory. Future studies should consider determining SECri’s psychometric properties in clinical and subclinical conditions to evaluate its prognostic value in cases of neurocognitive decline. This work unveils a route for a new generation of heterogeneous polyoxometalate (POMs) based catalysts associated to the preparation of hybrid materials as a triad of POMs, mesoporous silica (SBA‐15) and microporous MOF structures (MOF‐808). The prepared catalyst, PMo12@MOF‐808@SBA‐15, with the main active center the phosphomolybdic acid (PMo12), was successfully applied for the desulfurization of a multicomponent fuel. Its oxidative catalytic performance showed to be considerable superior to the isolated POM@MOF and able to be recycled for more catalytic cycles without active loss. The higher catalytic performance seems to be directly related with the preparation of a more amorphous MOF structure within the channels of SBA‐15, in the presence of active POM guests. CREDIT default swaps ,RATE of return on stocks ,PRICES ,INFRASTRUCTURE (Economics) - Abstract
This study develops a difference‐in‐differences analysis to assess whether trading onset of credit default swaps (CDS) on a firm's debt improves price informativeness in the stock market. Price informativeness is measured by the future earnings response coefficient, which captures the amount of information about future earnings conveyed in stock returns. Our sample comprises U.S. firms (firms experiencing CDS trading on their debt and a group of control firms) and covers the period 1997–2015. The results indicate that CDS hinder stock price informativeness, and thus the ability of prices to track long‐term fundamentals, especially before the arrival of negative information about the obligor. The identified impact is stronger when CDS are first traded, becoming less pervasive with the passage of time. Finally, the results indicate that effects were residual during the early stages of CDS market development and peaked during the period 2004–2008. The impact of CDS introduction weakened after new regulation and ISDA protocols entry into force in 2009. This empirical analysis contributes to the literature by improving knowledge on the consequences of CDS trading on economic and financial outcomes. It points out a negative effect on price informativeness in the stock market and indicates that it was smoothed by regulatory measures designed to improve market infrastructure and transparency. The composites of heteropolyacids (H3PW12, H3PMo12) incorporated into amine-functionalized silica materials were used for the first time as heterogeneous catalysts in the valorization of glycerol (a major waste from the biodiesel industry) through acetalization reaction with acetone. The polyoxotungstate catalyst H3PW12@AptesSBA-15 exhibited higher catalytic efficiency than the phosphomolybdate, achieving 97% conversion and 97% of solketal selectivity, after 60 min at 25 °C, or 91% glycerol conversion and the same selectivity, after 5 min, performing the reaction at 60 °C. A correlation between catalytic performance and catalyst acidity is presented here. Furthermore, the stability of the solid catalyst was investigated and discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The improvement of sustainable chemical processes plays a pivotal role in safe environmental and societal development, for example, by reducing the use of hazardous substances, preventing chemical waste, and improving the efficiency of chemical reactions to obtain added-value compounds. In this context, the porous coordination polymer MOF-808 (MOF, metal–organic framework) was prepared by a straightforward method in water, at room temperature, and was unequivocally characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. MOF-808 material was applied for the first time as catalysts in ring-opening aminolysis reactions of epoxides. It demonstrated high activity and selectivity for reactions of styrene oxide and cyclohexene oxide with aniline, using a very low amount of an eco-sustainable solvent (0.5 mL of EtOH), at 70 °C. Moreover, MOF-808 demonstrated high stability in the catalytic reaction conditions applied, and a notable reuse capacity of up to 20 consecutive reaction cycles, without significant variation in its catalytic performance. In fact, this Zr-based porous coordination polymer prepared by environment-friendly conditions proved to be a novel efficient heterogeneous catalyst, promoting the ring-opening reaction of epoxides under more sustainable conditions, and using a very low amount of catalyst. Transition to university is a challenging phase in youngsters’ lives. The literature indicates that geographical distance separating the places of study and of family residence adds to the difficulties of transition and adjustment to university. Recent evidence suggests that it also negatively impacts students’ grades. Despite important work done by economists, geographers and psychologists, sociology has devoted scarce interest in understanding this topic. This article seeks to bridge this gap, specifically exploring the reasons justifying the largely ignored effect of distance between the university and family home in academic performance. The study draws on data on undergraduate students of a Portuguese public university, collected through an online survey. Two dimensions, one more related to practical life occupations and another more linked to personal feelings and activities, are examined. It is argued that the negative impact of distance is mainly due to homesickness and to the time spent traveling home. Results from such analysis are twofold socially relevant: of the utmost importance for families, academics and students’ support services, deserve to be seriously considered by policy makers deciding on the territorial distribution of higher-education institutions.

23. Short-term and long-term capital market integration in the European Union : an investigation using interest rate and currency swaps data

The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the degree of financial integration achieved by the main European Union (EU) members. The study is motivated by the necessity of alternative adjustment mechanisms in countries affected by asymmetric shocks. Economic theory suggests that capital flows may have equilibrating effects in such circumstances, if international markets are integrated. There is therefore a case for evaluating the level of integration already achieved by the EU financial markets, especially in areas less explored in the literature. The empirical application evaluates the level of financial integration between Germany and five EU countries (Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK). The analysis comprises the investigation of covered, uncovered and real interest rate parity conditions, for onshore and offshore assets with maturities between one month and ten years, within the period 1987 to 1997. The use of currency swaps differentiates this work from the usual studies of interest parity relationships, by allowing the analysis of a larger spectrum of maturities, and also a distinct assessment of connections between term-structures of interest rates across countries. The econometric methodologies adopted include cointegration, the ARDL approach (employed to examine long-run relationships between stationary and nonstationary variables), and Granger-causality analysis. The empirical results suggest that, although capital is fairly mobile across borders, asset substitutability is still low, and domestic and foreign (i.e., non-German) real interest rates continue to differ, especially for longer maturities. There is also evidence of links between domestic and foreign term-structures of interest rates, but most foreign long-term rates are independent from German short-term ones. These findings may have implications for the issue of fiscal discipline in the context of a single capital market, as they suggest that longterm interest rates may continue to differ across countries and, consequently, it will not be possible for national governments to borrow at a given common interest rate.

When developed countries invest in developing countries there is often a trade-off between economic growth and environmental quality, but is this inevitable? Previous studies have concluded that one consequence of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is the transfer of polluting industries. However, there has been insufficient analysis of the pollutant consequence of this investment, as this may arise from the lack of renewable energy infrastructure to satisfy peaked energy demand. Using data from 17 developing countries from 2000–2020, this study undertakes an in-depth analysis of the effects of FDI and Private Participation in Energy Infrastructure (PPEI) investment on economic growth, pollution, and energy transition using a Seemingly Unrelated Regression model. The results reveal that FDI increases pollution and non-renewable energy consumption but, conversely, PPEI promotes energy transition, potentially mitigating the polluting impact of FDI. Developing countries can pursue long-term environmentally-sustainable economic growth by attracting private investment in their energy infrastructure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

28. Modelling Demand for Higher Education: A Partial Least-Squares Analysis of Portugal
- Author

- Abstract
Recognizing the strategic relevance of higher education, various countries have established ambitious objectives for the percentage of graduates in their population by 2020. In some cases, without effective policies aimed at increasing domestic rates of participation in higher education, such goals will not be met. However, successful measures are difficult to design and to implement when the phenomena they target are complex and encompass many personal, cultural, social and economic variables. Such is the case of aggregate demand for higher education. Therefore, a precise knowledge of its more likely influences is indispensable to perform the forecasting exercises required to inform the process of policy design and, subsequently, to monitor its success. In this paper, we employ the partial least-squares regression, which allows modelling with many variables even with relatively few observations, to identify the most relevant determinants of aggregate demand for higher education in Portugal. Our choice of country is dictated by the availability of adequate data but our results, suggesting that the most important factors are policy dependent, and may thus be managed to support strategic educational objectives, may be useful in other national contexts.

29. What Drives University Applications? An Attempt to Explain Aggregate Demand for Higher Education

- Abstract
Low educational attainment is frequently pointed out as a barrier to social and economic development and most governments aim at increasing participation in higher education. However, effective strategies to increase aggregate demand require information on its most relevant determinants, which is difficult to obtain because applications to higher education are usually not organised at the country level. In this study, we utilise a large sample of data on applications available in Portugal to estimate a model of aggregate demand for higher education. Our estimates suggest that the economic context is relatively less relevant than policy orientations, and thus that sustaining or increasing higher education participation may be more dependent on political choice than on economic circumstances. The only relevant economic determinant in the model is unemployment which contradicting some previous research appears to exert a negative impact upon aggregate demand.

- Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Surgical site infections are associated with devastating consequences in vascular surgery patients but the data on Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection among those remains scant and conflicting. Most vascular surgery antibiotic prophylaxis assume that all patients submitted to surgery are tested prior to the intervention or that all patients with risk factors for MRSA are presumed to be colonized. However, the costs associated with testing all patients are not negligible, and most of the vascular surgery patients have risk factors for MRSA colonization. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the burden of MRSA clinical infection and its outcome and to adjust clinical practice accordingly. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of clinical data from all patients with MRSA isolations that were submitted to vascular surgery in the year 2019 was conducted. The primary endpoint was in-hospital mortality. Secondary endpoints were timing of infection (pre-existent infection or post-surgical infection), need for ICU and length of hospital stay. RESULTS: Out of 1681 patients admitted for surgery in the year 2019 in the vascular surgery ward, only 21 had clinical infection with positive MRSA isolates. All the patients had risk factors for MRSA colonization. Seventeen were admitted for PAD (Rutherford grade 5 or 6). Eight patients had post-operatory infections, whilst the remaining presented with MRSA infection prior to the intervention. Post-operatory infections ranged from superficial incisional in three patients, deep incisional in one patient, and organ/space/prosthesis infection in four patients (of the last group, two had prosthesis infection). There were five deaths, of which two were unrelated to the infection. Of the three deaths probably infection-related, all were post-operatory surgical site infections, and all were organ/space/prosthesis infections (one with prosthesis infection). There was no patient admitted to the ICU that survived. The mean hospital stay was increased by 26 days (31 days, 95% CI, 19-43). CONCLUSION: Infection by MRSA was less frequent than expected in our population, which may mean that colonization might be smaller than expected. Pre-operative infection was almost always related to chronic wounds and did not increase the risk of post-operative wound infection or death, contrary to post-operative infection, which seems to significantly increase mortality., Angiologia e Cirurgia Vascular, Vol. 18 No. 1 (2022): March

Extraordinary events, regardless of their financial or non-financial nature, are a great challenge for financial stability. This study examines the impact of one such occurrence—the COVID-19 pandemic—on cryptocurrency markets. A detrended cross-correlation analysis was performed to evaluate how the links between 16 cryptocurrencies were changed by this event. Cross-correlation coefficients that were calculated before and after the onset of the pandemic were compared, and the statistical significance of their variation was assessed. The analysis results show that the markets of the assessed cryptocurrencies became more integrated. There is also evidence to suggest that the pandemic crisis promoted contagion, mainly across short timescales (with a few exceptions of non-contagion across long timescales). We conclude that, in spite of the distinct characteristics of cryptocurrencies, those in our sample offered no protection against the financial turbulence provoked by the COVID-19 pandemic, and thus, our study provided yet another example of 'correlations breakdown' in times of crisis. INTRODUCTION: Phlegmasia cerulea (PC) is a severe form of deep vein thrombosis. In the setting of massive venous thrombosis and severe ischemia, catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) or trombectomy is mandatory. We report three cases of women with PC managed with venous thrombectomy after failure of CDT. CASE REPORTS: 1: 20 years-old, with recent intake of oral contraceptive, referred with acute onset of limb swelling, pain and a cold left lower extremity associated with foot pallor, paresthesia and numbness. Doppler ultrasound revealed occlusive thrombosis of the entire deep venous system and the great saphenous vein (GSV). Anticoagulation (AC) and CDT were started. However due to increasing levels of transaminases, creatine kinase and myoglobin, CTD was stopped and venous thrombectomy was proposed. A retrievable inferior vena cava filter (IVC) was implanted and venous surgical trombectomy. The completion venography showed a Cockett compression that was treated with stenting of the left iliac vein. Thrombophilia tests were positive for anticardiolipin antibodies an hyperhomocysteinemia. At 3-years follow-up, the patient is asymptomatic and under AC. The 3-year Doppler showed normal patency for the iliac stent and a mild femoropopliteal vein insuffiency. 2: 19 year-old, taking oral contraceptives, with acute onset of PCD with acute thrombus in the left iliac, femoral, popliteal veins. CDT was started at admittance but stopped after two days because of very low values of serum fibrinogen and persistence of occlusive thrombus in the iliac vein. A retrievable IVC filter was placed and the thrombus removed with surgical thrombectomy. Phlebography showed no significant residual thrombus and no signs of compression were present. At 1 month follow-up, the patient presented without leg edema or venous claudication symptoms. Thrombophilia testing is awaited. 3: 54 year-old who presented with low back pain, worsening left leg pain and swelling with a cyanosed and colder foot. At doppler ultrasound there were monophasic arterial flow in the left leg. After exclusion of arterial embolism, the first therapeutic approach was CDT, but it was also stopped due to very low fibrinogen levels and an ineffective thrombus lysis in venography controls. After implantation of a retrievable IVC, surgical thrombectomy via femoral vein was performed, with successful thrombus removal. Venography showed Cockett syndrome and a stent was implanted. At 6 months the patient remained without major symptoms, and Doppler confirmed stent patency with non residual obstruction or venous insufficiency. CONCLUSION: Awareness and timely diagnosis of phlegmasia cerulea is necessary to ensure prompt intervention to prevent loss of limb. When CDT is not effective, surgical thrombectomy remains successfully alternative. Iliac venous stenting complement is also crucial to treat associated Cockett syndrome. Endovascular thrombectomy devices may be a reasonable alternative to surgical thrombectomy., Angiologia e Cirurgia Vascular, Vol. 18 No. 1 (2022): March

Seasonality covers various sectors of economic activity, from primary to tertiary, being tourism, specifically in this study, culture and museums, very affected by this phenomenon. In a way, this constraint is predictable in this sector, and this predictability may allow the anticipation of supply strategies that can counteract this manifestation and stimulate the stability of demand throughout the year. Examples include market variation, pricing policy and the experience provided, whereby promotion should reflect distinct activity and event packages. This research was conducted as a starting point to help combat the seasonality evident in the Douro Museum located in the Alto Douro Region. An exploratory case study combining qualitative research methods was conducted to deepen the understanding of this complex phenomenon. We hope that this research reveals the importance of the enlargement of innovative and transversal cultural tourism products, in the planning and development of tourism in Alto Douro and, in particular, in the Douro Museum, facing the so called low season in tourism. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

The physical activity, exercise and wellness sector is rapidly growing and seems to be an exciting field for business and professional development with great potential globally. The purpose of this observational and cross-sectional study was to determine the most popular health and fitness trends in Southern Europe for the first time, including data from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus, and to investigate any potential differences in this area compared to the Pan-European and global fitness trends for 2023. A national online survey was conducted in five Southern European countries, using the methodology of similar regional and worldwide surveys conducted by the American College of Sports Medicine since 2007. In total, a web-based questionnaire was sent to 19,887 professionals who worked in the Southern European physical activity, exercise and wellness sector. A total of 2645 responses were collected from five national surveys with an overall mean response rate of 13.3%. The ten most important fitness trends in Southern Europe for 2023 were personal training, licensure for fitness professionals, exercise is medicine, employing certified fitness professionals, functional fitness training, small group training, hi gh-intensity interval training, fitness programs for older adults, post-rehabilitation classes and body weight training. The present findings are aligned with those reported for the European and worldwide fitness trends. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to explore consumer engagement with online retailers through gamification, the use of game mechanics, and co-creation. A qualitative methodology was used through an exploratory case study approach. The interviews were conducted with 30 Portuguese consumers. It was found that the majority of respondents do not consider online shopping as a substitute for other entertainment activities. Respondents stressed that in online shopping, the important thing is personal satisfaction and their needs. According to the Hexad model, these characteristics fit the free spirit gamer, the Barttle model the explorer and the BrainHex model the seeker. As far as co-creation is concerned, the results indicate that most of the interviewees do not value the tools that exist on the retailers' websites which allow them to create their own product. This study provides recommendations for retailers to implement a successful co-creation gamification strategy. Companies need to include gaming elements to enhance the retail experience and increase sales. In turn, this can increase competitive pressures among retailers by improving the services and products they offer. This paper provides empirical support for the current dearth of qualitative studies on the role of gamification and co-creation in the online retail experience. Many of the findings of this study are not in line with existing literature, allowing the conclusion that gamification alone is no longer enough to engage the online retail consumer with products and brands, requiring co-creation for the effective engagement of this consumer. Cryptocurrencies are relatively new and innovative financial assets. They are a topic of interest to investors and academics due to their distinctive features. Whether financial or not, extraordinary events are one of the biggest challenges facing financial markets. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, considered by some authors a "black swan", is one of these events. In this study, we assess integration and contagion in the cryptocurrency market in the COVID-19 pandemic context, using two entropy-based measures: mutual information and transfer entropy. Both methodologies reveal that cryptocurrencies exhibit mixed levels of integration before and after the onset of the pandemic. Cryptocurrencies displaying higher integration before the event experienced a decline in such link after the world became aware of the first cases of pneumonia in Wuhan city. In what concerns contagion, mutual information provided evidence of its presence solely for the Huobi Token, and the transfer entropy analysis pointed out Tether and Huobi Token as its main source. As both analyses indicate no contagion from the pandemic turmoil to these financial assets, cryptocurrencies may be good investment options in case of real global shocks, such as the one provoked by the COVID-19 outbreak. Renal artery revascularization ,Renal artery occlusion ,Acute renal ischemia ,Stent angioplasty - Abstract
Introduction: Acute renal ischemia has a low incidence. Literature evidence of its surgical treatment is based on case series, and there are no well-defined indications for renal revascularization in this setting. Methods: Observational and retrospective study, based on clinical records from patients that underwent renal artery revascularization due to acute renal ischemia, at a tertiary university hospital, from January 2011 to June 2020. Primary endpoint was 30 days dialysis rate, and secondary endpoints were 30 days de novo chronic kidney disease rate and 30 days survival. Results: Eleven patients with acute renal ischemia were included. The causes of renal artery occlusion were: aortic dissection (N=3), native renal artery thrombosis (N=3), thrombosis of a previously revascularized renal artery (N=3), embolism (N=1) and closed trauma (N=1). Two of these affected patients with a single kidney. The median time from symptom onset to surgical revascularization was 24 hours. Two patients had previously known chronic kidney disease. Clinical presentation was lumbar or abdominal pain (n=8), non-controlled hypertension (N=5), or oligoanuria (N=5). The diagnosis was made by CTA in all patients. In all cases, the main renal artery was involved (N=9 from its ostium), and there was some degree of affected kidney contrast enhancement. Unilateral endovascular revascularization was performed with angiographic success in 10 patients; it was performed a bilateral endovascular revascularization in one of the three patients who had bilateral renal ischemia. Except for one patient with stent occlusion (that underwent DCB angioplasty), all patients underwent stent angioplasty (6 using covered stents). Two patients presented postoperative oligoanuria, and four required at least one dialysis session. At 30 days, the rate of dialysis was 11% (one patient with traumatic bilateral acute renal ischemia with 13 hours evolution), and the percentage of de novo chronic kidney disease was 22%. The 30-day survival was 90%. Conclusion: In this population, we can foresee the reversion of acute renal ischemia, even after prolonged renal artery occlusions. However, with our data, it is not possible to predict which patients will recover previous renal function after urgent revascularization with angiographic success. For being prompt and less invasive, endovascular treatment is the first surgical option for acute renal ischemia treatment at our institution.

The "Living heritage routes" project aims to interpret a given geographical area for tourism - the city of Lamego - based on the visual/oral perceptions and memories of the residents, so that it is possible to create tourist proposals, based on co-creation, that involve the local community, students and cultural agents through the contemporary interpretation of the space. The project has three distinct phases: 1st survey of the material and immaterial cultural heritage; 2nd elaboration of tourist itineraries and 3rd realization of an event that promotes and divulges the project - through a historical recreation of the space. The main objectives of this study were to involve the local population in projects that aim to recover and promote the local tangible and intangible cultural heritage. We believe that it is possible to create new cultural and artistic products, such as thematic itineraries, based on the image, perceptions and memories of the resident population, which can attract more visitors, improving the development of sustainable tourism aimed at local culture promoting. The methodology of this project, as far as its 1st phase is concerned, went through a qualitative approach, using mental maps, accompanied by interview, as a method of enquiry, in order to understand the local community's perception of their urban space. The analysis and interpretation of the mental maps will follow the methodology presented by Kozel (2007). The results obtained through a first analysis of the interviews and the mental maps, applied to 40 residents of the city of Lamego from four different age groups allowed, in a first preliminary analysis, the identification of new natural and cultural tangible and intangible heritage resources, as well as the identification of several points connected to the singularity and identity of the city and its districts. It was also clear that the connection of residents to their districts influences the way they perceive the city, as well as its symbolic and representational icons. The results reinforce the importance of involving residents, in the cocreation of heritage tourism products, allowing the construction and renewal of the tourism offer in small historical towns. Iatrogenic pseudoaneurysms (IPA) are a rare complication of transradial coronary intervention. This brief report aims to present a case report of a radial artery pseudoaneurysm and to review the current management of this entity. Because of the increased performance of transradial coronary intervention, IPA have become more common. Doppler ultrasonography is a fundamental tool to aid the differential diagnosis with other pathologies. There is no consensus on the treatment, which may range from conservative management to surgical repair. Close surveillance after the procedure and early diagnosis are essential to avoid serious complications, such as ischemia of the hand. The management of IPA depends upon morphological characteristics and associated symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

QUALITY of life ,WORKING hours ,MASTER'S degree ,UNPAID labor ,PROFESSIONAL employees - Abstract
Fitness has been revealing a positive impact on the quality of life (QoL) of practitioners and fitness professionals (FPs) represent a role model for their customers in the fitness industry, emphasizing the need to know their QoL indices. The purpose of this study is to characterize the QoL of FPs in Portugal, compare it between groups and correlate QoL with sociodemographic and work-related variables. A total of 388 FPs answered an online survey about sociodemographic and work-related variables and the Portuguese version of the World Health Organization Bref QoL Assessment. Descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, Pearson and Spearman were used for statistical analysis. The results suggest that FPs in Portugal have different levels of QoL, considering the high standard deviation, with lower average indices than other countries. The lowest scores of QoL were verified in the environment domain. The results of the comparison between groups suggest that being male, married and having a master's degree or higher were the characteristics with better indices of QoL. Age, professional experience and net salary reveal a positive relation/association with QoL. Body&mind group classes (GC) per week, maximal GC per day, paid and unpaid working hours per week and annual expenses related to the profession reveal a negative relation/association. Maximal GC per day results could be an important finding to help minimize the physical problems among FPs and body&mind GC per week results could be an indicator of the FPs adaptation that allows them to remain on the profession. Unpaid working hours per week has the highest number of significant relations/associations with QoL. These findings could be important to improve the QoL of FPs. Thus, they could result in better work capacity and, therefore, fewer professionals would abandon the profession. It would also have a positive impact on the fitness industry and on the promotion of physical activity for a healthier society. More research is needed regarding the QoL of FPs. DESULFURIZATION ,HETEROGENEOUS catalysts ,CATALYSTS ,CATALYTIC activity ,HYDROGEN peroxide ,WASTE recycling - Abstract
An effective and sustainable oxidative desulfurization process for treating a multicomponent model fuel was successfully developed using as a heterogeneous catalyst a composite material containing as an active center the europium Lindqvist [Eu(W
5 O18 )2 ]9− (abbreviated as EuW10 ) encapsulated into the nanoporous ZIF-8 (zeolitic imidazolate framework) support. The EuW10 @ZIF-8 composite was obtained through an impregnation procedure, and its successful preparation was confirmed by various characterization techniques (FT-IR, XRD, SEM/EDS, ICP-OES). The catalytic activity of the composite and the isolated EuW10 was evaluated in the desulfurization of a multicomponent model fuel containing dibenzothiophene derivatives (DBT, 4-MDBT and 4,6-DMDBT) with a total sulfur concentration of 1500 ppm. Oxidative desulfurization was performed using an ionic liquid as extraction solvent and aqueous hydrogen peroxide as oxidant. The catalytic results showed a remarkable desulfurization performance, with 99.5 and 94.7% sulfur removal in the first 180 min, for the homogeneous active center EuW10 and the heterogeneous EuW10 @ZIF-8 catalysts, respectively. Furthermore, the stability of the nanocomposite catalyst was investigated by reusing and recycling processes. A superior retention of catalyst activity in consecutive desulfurization cycles was observed in the recycling studies when compared with the reusing experiments. Nevertheless, the nanostructure of ZIF-8 incorporating the active POM (polyoxometalate) was shown to be highly suitable for guaranteeing the absence of POM leaching, although structural modification was found for ZIF-8 after catalytic use that did not influenced catalytic performance. There has been growing awareness of the importance of developing environmentally friendly chemical processes. In this context, the synthesis of materials by mechanical grinding or milling holds much promise. Microporous zeolitic materials are well-known for their importance as catalysts, ion exchangers, and in gas separation and storage. Here, the incorporation of a mechanosynthesis (ball milling) step in the preparation of an important class of zeolite-type materials, microporous titanosilicates, is shown to reduce by one to two orders of magnitude the amount of water used, as compared with the conventional hydrothermal synthesis. Accordingly, no water was added to the reagents in the synthesis of the smallpore synthetic analogue of minerals sitinakite (Na2Ti2O3SiO4·2H2O), now a commercial Cs+ ion exchanger, and ivanyukite-K (also known as GTS-1, HK3Ti4O4(SiO4)·4H2O). The preparation of the important microporous titanosilicate ETS-10 ((Na,K)2TiSi5O13·nH2O), microporous AM-2 (K2TiSi3O9·H2O), and the analogue of the layered mineral natisite (Na2TiO(SiO4)) required only the addition of a very small amount of water. The increased reactivity of the ball-milled reaction mixture is ascribed to the reduction of the precipitated silica particle size (ETS-10 synthesis) and the increased number of silica nanoparticle silanol groups (ETS-10 and sitinakite synthesis). Moreover, in general, the ball milling step also decreased the synthesis time considerably, in most cases resulting in significant energy saving (3-34 times) over conventional hydrothermal synthesis. This work shows that mechanosynthesis enables the preparation of microporous (and layered) titanosilicates by a process that is more sustainable than the conventional hydrothermal synthesis and is also amenable for upscaling. - Abstract
An effective and sustainable process capable of simultaneously execute desulfurization and denitrogenation of fuels is in fact an actual necessity in the refinery industry. The key to achieve this goal is the parallel oxidation of sulfur and nitrogen compounds present in fuels, which is only achieved by an active and recovered catalyst. A novel heterogeneous catalyst was successfully prepared by the encapsulation of an imidazolium-based polyoxometalate (POM) into a ZIF-8 framework ([BMIM]PMo
12 @ZIF-8). This composite material revealed exceptional catalytic efficiency to concurrently proceed with the oxidative desulfurization and denitrogenation of a multicomponent model fuel containing various sulfur and nitrogen compounds. A complete removal of all these compounds was achieved after only one hour and the catalyst system was able to be reused for ten consecutive cycles without loss of efficiency. In fact, an ionic liquid POM was incorporated in the ZIF-8 for the first time, and this composite compound was originally applied as a catalyst for simultaneous oxidative desulfurization and denitrogenation processes.
