1. Emotional Intelligence and Success in Initial Vocational Education and Training: A Study among Healthcare Assistants and Social Care Workers

Abstract

Context: Research on emotional intelligence (EI) shows this concept's decades-long positive influence on well-being, self-efficacy, employability, and academic and professional achievement. Indeed, several studies have demonstrated that students with high EI have better grades and quality of life, as well as are more employable than students with low EI. By considering the two conceptualizations of EI as either an ability or personality trait, the present study investigates EI's influence on training achievement in initial vocational education and training (IVET). We posited that the two types of EI positively influence training achievement in a complementary way: Ability EI relates to achievement in theoretical training, while trait EI relates to achievement in practical training. Furthermore, these links are mediated by apprentices' engagement at school and in learning. Method: To test our hypotheses, 92 dual IVET health and social care apprentices in their last year of vocational school completed an online survey composed of validated scales measuring EI as an ability, EI as a personality trait, personality traits, and school engagement. The apprentices' grades were also obtained with their permission. Results: The findings confirmed our hypotheses and reflected EI's positive influence on training achievement. We observed that participants with high EI (as an ability and personality trait) obtained better grades than participants with lower EI. Moreover, our results showed that ability EI has a direct influence on achievement in theoretical health and social care training, while the link between trait EI and practical training is indirect and mediated by engagement in learning. Conclusion: The present study confirms EI's positive influence on school achievement in the VET context and further corroborates the important role that EI can play in dual IVET apprentices' achievement, particularly in the health and social sectors. This original study contributes to research on the VET system by placing EI among the skills necessary to ensure professional success.

Journalism is a highly technology-dependent profession, and students, educators, and professionals must develop specific digital skills. This study uses the theory of disruptive innovation to examine how journalism educators adapt their programs in response to changing media environments. A survey of accredited journalism and mass communication programs identified three key challenges: the need for long-term investment, the ability to predict future change and demand, and difficulty in hiring faculty expertise. When asked which technologies will affect journalism curricula in the next 3 to 5 years, artificial intelligence (AI) topped the list, followed by drone journalism, virtual reality, and augmented reality.

Abstract

In the binuclear title complex, [La2(C2H3O2)4(C11H10N4)(H2O)4](NO3)2·0.5H2O, the two lanthanum ions are nine coordinate in a distorted trigonal–prismatic geometry. Each LaIII ion is bonded to three N atoms of the Schiff base, 1-(pyridin-2-yl)-2-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)hydrazine and is coordinated by one acetate group, which acts in η2-bidentate mode and two acetate groups that act in μ2-mode between the two LaIII ions. Two η1-water molecules complete the coordination sphere. All bond lengths in the coordination environment of the LaIII ion are slightly larger than those observed in the isostructural NdIII and SmIII complexes. The LaIII...LaIII distance is 4.6696 (6) Å. In the crystal, extensive O—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions involving the coordinated water molecules and the non-coordinating nitrate anions, as well as the oxygen atoms of the acetate groups, generate an overall three-dimensional supramolecular network.

Abstract

We present a protocol to improve confidence in reported radon activity concentrations, facilitating direct site-to-site comparisons and integration with co-located greenhouse gas (GHG) measurements within a network of three independently managed observatories in the UK. Translating spot measurements of atmospheric GHG amount fractions into regional flux estimates (“top-down” analysis) is usually performed with atmospheric transport models (ATMs), which calculate the sensitivity of regional emissions to changes in observed GHGs at a finite number of locations. However, the uncertainty of regional emissions is closely linked to ATM uncertainties. Radon, emitted naturally from the land surface, can be used as a tracer of atmospheric transport and mixing to independently evaluate the performance of such models. To accomplish this, the radon measurements need to have a comparable precision to the GHGs at the modelled temporal resolution. Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) dual-flow-loop two-filter radon detectors provide output every 30 min. The measurement accuracy at this temporal resolution depends on the characterization and removal of instrumental background, the calibration procedure, and response time correction. Consequently, unless these steps are standardized, measurement precision may differ between sites. Here we describe standardized approaches regarding (1) instrument maintenance, (2) quality control of the raw data stream, (3) determination and removal of the instrumental background, (4) calibration methods, and (5) response time correction (by deconvolution). Furthermore, we assign uncertainties for each reported 30 min radon estimate (assuming these steps have been followed) and validate the final result through comparison of diurnal and sub-diurnal radon characteristics with co-located GHG measurements. While derived for a network of UK observatories, the proposed standardized protocol could be equally applied to two-filter dual-flow-loop radon observations across larger networks, such as the Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) or the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) baseline network.

Glutamate acts through both fast ionotropic receptors, which appear to carry the main sensory message, and slower, modulatory metabotropic receptors (mGluRs). In this study, we asked whether mGluR5 relates in distinct ways to the K, M, and P LGN axons in V1. To answer this question, we used light microscopic immunocytochemistry and preembedding electron microscopic immunogold labeling to determine the localization of mGluR5 within the layers of V1 in relation to the K, M, and P pathways in macaque and squirrel monkeys. These pathways were labeled separately via wheat germ agglutinin–horseradish peroxidase (WGA–HRP) injections targeting the LGN layers. mGluR5 is of interest because it: 1) has been shown to be expressed in the thalamic input layers; 2) appears to be responsible for some types of oscillatory firing, which could be important in the binding of visual features; and 3) has been associated with a number of sensory-motor gating-related pathologies, including schizophrenia and autism. Our results demonstrated the presence of mGluR5 in the neuropil of all V1 layers. This protein was lowest in IVCa (M input) and the infragranular layers. In layer IVC, mGluR5 also was found postsynaptic to about 30% of labeled axons, but the distribution was uneven, such that postsynaptic mGluR5 label tended to occur opposite smaller (presumed P), and not larger (presumed M) axon terminals. Only in the K pathway in layer IIIB, however, was mGluR5 always found in the axon terminals themselves. The presence of mGluR5 in K axons and not in M and P axons, and the presence of mGluR5 postsynaptic mainly to smaller P and not larger M axons suggest that the response to the release of glutamate is modulated in distinct ways within and between the parallel visual pathways of primates. Abstract Leaf litter dominates particulate organic carbon inputs to forest streams. Using data‐informed simulations, we explored how litter type (slow‐ vs. fast‐decomposing species), pulsed autumn litter inputs, groundwater‐mediated temperature regimes, and climate warming affect litter breakdown in a 3rd‐order stream network. We found that the time‐dependent interactions of these variables govern network‐scale litter breakdown phenology, with greater thermal sensitivity of slow‐decomposing litter for both current and future scenarios. Groundwater thermal inputs modified litter breakdown phenology by reducing spring and summer and elevating winter litter breakdown fluxes. Under future warming scenarios, the source depth of contributing groundwater influenced summer detrital resources; shallow groundwater‐fed streams had reduced summer resources compared to deep groundwater‐fed streams. Our results demonstrate that predicting in‐stream carbon cycling requires explicit consideration of the phenology of resource inputs and the seasonal timing of environmental factors, notably stream thermal regimes.

Abstract

Abstract Resistive Random Access Memory (RRAM) has gained considerable momentum due to its non-volatility and energy efficiency. Material and device scientists have been proposing novel material stacks that can mimic the “ideal memristor” which can deliver performance, energy efficiency, reliability and accuracy. However, designing RRAM-based systems is challenging. Engineering a new material stack, designing a device, and experimenting takes significant time for material and device researchers. Furthermore, the acceptability of the device is ultimately decided at the system level. We see a gap here where there is a need for facilitating material and device researchers with a “push button” modeling framework that allows to evaluate the efficacy of the device at system level during early device design stages. Speed, accuracy, and adaptability are the fundamental requirements of this modelling framework. In this paper, we propose a digital twin (DT)-like modeling framework that automatically creates RRAM device models from device measurement data. Furthermore, the model incorporates the peripheral circuit to ensure accurate energy and performance evaluations. We demonstrate the DT generation and DT usage for multiple RRAM technologies and applications and illustrate the achieved performance of our GPU implementation. We conclude with the application of our modeling approach to measurement data from two distinct fabricated devices, validating its effectiveness in a neural network processing an Electrocardiogram (ECG) dataset and incorporating Fault Aware Training (FAT).

31. Spatial analysis of PM2.5 using a concentration similarity index applied to air quality sensor networks

Abstract

Air quality sensor (AQS) networks are useful for mapping PM2.5 (particles with a diameter of 2.5 µm or smaller) in urban environments, but quantitative assessment of the observed spatial and temporal variation is currently underdeveloped. This study introduces a new metric – the concentration similarity index (CSI) – to facilitate a quantitative and time-averaged comparison of the concentration–time profiles of PM2.5 measured by each sensor within an air quality sensor network. Following development on a dataset with minimal unexplained variation and robust tests, the CSI function is used to represent an unbiased and fair depiction of the air quality variation within an area covered by a monitoring network. The measurement data is used to derive a CSI value for every combination of sensor pairs in the network, yielding valuable information on spatial variation in PM2.5. This new method is applied to two separate AQS networks, in Dungarvan and in the city of Cork, Ireland. In Dungarvan there was a lower mean CSI value (x‾CSI, Dungarvan=0.61, x‾CSI, Cork=0.71), indicating lower overall similarity between locations in the network. In both networks, the average diurnal plots for each sensor exhibit an evening peak in PM2.5 concentration due to emissions from residential solid-fuel burning; however, there is considerable variation in the size of this peak. Clustering techniques applied to the CSI matrices identify two different location types in each network; locations in central or residential areas that experience more pollution from solid-fuel burning and locations on the edge of the urban areas that experience cleaner air. The difference in mean PM2.5 between these two location types was 6 µg m−3 in Dungarvan and 2 µg m−3 in Cork. Furthermore, the examination of winter and summer months (January and May) indicates that higher PM2.5 levels during periods of increased residential solid-fuel burning act as a major driver for greater differences (lower similarity indices) between locations in both networks, with differences in mean seasonal CSI values exceeding 0.25 and differences in mean seasonal PM2.5 exceeding 7 µg m−3. These findings underscore the importance of including wintertime PM data in analyses, as the differences between locations is enhanced during periods when solid-fuel burning activities are at a peak. Additionally, the CSI method facilitates the assessment of the representativeness of the PM2.5 measured at regulatory air quality monitoring locations with respect to population exposure, showing here that location type is more important than physical proximity in terms of similarity and spatial representativeness assessments. Applying the CSI in this manner can allow for the placement of monitoring infrastructure to be optimised. The results indicate that the population exposure to PM2.5 in Dungarvan is moderately represented (x‾CSI=0.63) by the current regulatory monitoring location, and the regulatory monitoring location assessed in Cork represented the city-wide PM2.5 levels well (x‾CSI=0.76).

Abstract Neuroligin-2 (Nlgn2) is a key synaptic adhesion protein at virtually all GABAergic synapses, which recruits GABAARs by promoting assembly of the postsynaptic gephyrin scaffold. Intriguingly, loss of Nlgn2 differentially affects subsets of GABAergic synapses, indicating that synapse-specific interactors and redundancies define its function, but the nature of these interactions remain poorly understood. Here we investigated how Nlgn2 function in hippocampal area CA1 is modulated by two proposed interaction partners, MDGA1 and MDGA2. We show that loss of MDGA1 expression, but not heterozygous deletion of MDGA2, ameliorates the abnormal cytosolic gephyrin aggregation, the reduction in inhibitory synaptic transmission and the exacerbated anxiety-related behaviour characterizing Nlgn2 knockout (KO) mice. Additionally, combined Nlgn2 and MDGA1 deletion causes an exacerbated layer-specific loss of gephyrin puncta. Given that both Nlgn2 and the MDGA1 have been correlated with many psychiatric disorders, our data support the notion that cytosolic gephyrin aggregation may represent an interesting target for novel therapeutic strategies.

33. Two distinct ship emission profiles for organic-sulfate source apportionment of PM in sulfur emission control areas

Abstract

Source apportionment quantitatively links pollution to its source but can be difficult to perform in areas like ports where emissions from shipping and other port-related activities are intrinsically linked. Here we present the analysis of aerosol chemical speciation monitor (ACSM) data using combined organic and sulfate ion positive matrix factorisation (PMF) during an intensive measurement campaign in Dublin Port. Two main types of ship emissions were identified by this technique: sulfate-rich (S-Ship) and organic-rich (O-Ship). The S-Ship emissions were attributed to heavy fuel oil use and are characterised by particles with standard V/Ni ratios from 2.7–3.9 and a large fraction of acidic sulfate aerosol. The O-Ship emissions were attributed to low-sulfur fuel types and were comprised mostly of organic aerosol (OA) with the V/Ni ratios ranging only from 0–2.3. O-Ship plumes occurred over 3 times more frequently than S-Ship plumes during the measurement period. A third minor ship emission factor (X-Ship) was resolved by PMF but not clearly attributable to any specific fuel type. Overall, ship plumes had PM1 concentrations in the range 4–252 µg m−3, with extreme concentrations usually lasting for 5–35 min. Despite their short duration, shipping emission plumes were frequent and contributed to at least 28 % of PM1 (i.e. 14 % O-Ship, 12 % S-Ship, and 2 % X-Ship). Moreover, hydrocarbon-like organic aerosol (HOA) and black carbon could also originate, in part, from shipping-related activities such as ferry traffic and heavy-goods vehicles, suggesting that the overall contribution of shipping activity to ambient PM1 is likely higher, upwards of 47 %.

Abstract Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a chronic lung disease of prematurity. Exposure to noxious stimuli such as hyperoxia, volutrauma, and infection in infancy can have long-reaching impacts on lung health and predispose towards the development of conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adulthood. BPD and COPD are both marked by lung tissue degradation, neutrophil influx, and decreased lung function. Both diseases also express a change in microbial signature characterized by firmicute depletion. However, the relationship between pulmonary bacteria and the mechanisms of downstream disease development has yet to be elucidated. We hypothesized that murine models of BPD would show heightened acetylated proline-glycine-proline (Ac-PGP) pathway and neutrophil activity, and through gain- and loss-of-function studies we show that Ac-PGP plays a critical role in driving BPD development. We further test a inhaled live biotherapeutic (LBP) using active Lactobacillus strains in in vitro and in vivo models of BPD and COPD. The Lactobacillus-based LBP is effective in improving lung structure and function, mitigating neutrophil influx, and reducing a broad swath of pro-inflammatory markers in these models of chronic pulmonary disease via the MMP-9/PGP (matrix metalloproteinase/proline-glycine-proline) pathway. Inhaled LBPs show promise in addressing common pathways of disease progression that in the future can be targeted in a variety of chronic lung diseases.

Abstract

Abstract The chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) on Ge substrates is a promising pathway to high‐quality hBN thin films without metal contaminations for microelectronic applications, but the effect of CVD process parameters on the hBN properties is not well understood yet. The influence of local changes in pressure and temperature due to different reactor configurations on the structure and quality of hBN films grown on Ge(001)/Si is studied. Injection of the borazine precursor close to the sample surface results in an inhomogeneous film thickness, attributed to an inhomogeneous pressure distribution at the surface, as shown by computational fluid dynamics simulations. The additional formation of nanocrystalline islands is attributed to unfavorable gas phase reactions due to the radiative heating of the injector. Both issues are mitigated by increasing the injector‐sample distance, leading to an 86% reduction in pressure variability on the sample surface and a 200 °C reduction in precursor temperature. The resulting hBN films exhibit no nanocrystalline islands, improved thickness homogeneity, and high crystalline quality (Raman FWHM = 23 cm−1). This is competitive with hBN films grown on other non‐metal substrates but achieved at lower temperature and with a low thickness of only a few nanometers.

BackgroundWhether COVID-19 is associated with a change in risk perception about other health conditions is unknown. Because COVID-19 occurred during a breast cancer study, we evaluated the effect of COVID-19 risk perception on women’s breast cancer risk perception. ObjectiveThis study aims to evaluate the relationship between perceived risk of COVID-19 and change in perceived breast cancer risk. We hypothesized that women who perceived greater COVID-19 risk would evidence increased perceived breast cancer risk and this risk would relate to increased anxiety and missed cancer screening. MethodsWomen aged 40-74 years with no breast cancer history were enrolled in a US breast cancer prevention trial in outpatient settings. They had provided breast cancer risk perception and general anxiety before COVID-19. We performed a prospective observational study of the relationship between the perceived risk of COVID-19 and the change in perceived breast cancer risk compared to before the pandemic. Each woman was surveyed up to 4 times about COVID-19 and breast cancer risk perception, general anxiety, and missed medical care early in COVID-19 (May to December 2020). Background: Propionic acidemia (PA) is an inborn error of metabolism (IEM) that typically presents in the newborn. The Amish of North America have an increased prevalence of PA due to a founder variant in the PCCB gene. The Amish PA phenotype is variable, and some individuals remain asymptomatic and undiagnosed until adulthood. Additionally, there are limited reports of pregnancy outcomes in Amish individuals with PA. Methods: A retrospective single center chart review was completed on sixty Amish individuals with PA to identify individuals diagnosed as adults (18 years or older) and pregnancy outcomes. We assessed age at diagnosis, reason for PA testing, medical history prior to diagnosis including developmental delay, seizure, protein intolerance, cardiac symptoms, and anxiety. Following the diagnosis, we assessed the prevalence of prolonged QTc and dilated cardiomyopathy. We assessed our cohort for number of pregnancies, pregnancy outcomes, and peripartum complications. Results: Nine out of sixty individuals (15 %) were diagnosed with PA as adults. A family member with PA was the most common reason to prompt genetic testing. Cardiac symptoms were present in six of nine individuals prior to diagnosis. Three individuals diagnosed as adults had dilated cardiomyopathy and one underwent cardiac transplant. There were twenty-one pregnancies in six women with eighteen successful deliveries and three miscarriages. Two women developed peripartum cardiomyopathy. There were no acute maternal decompensations. Conclusion: Our work supports the consideration that all Amish newborns be screened for PA with molecular testing to enable early diagnosis. The stark difference in peripartum outcomes requires further prospective work to ensure appropriate monitoring throughout pregnancy while respecting individual values and autonomy.

BackgroundOnline interventions, such as the iFightDepression (iFD) tool, are increasingly recognized as effective alternatives to traditional face-to-face psychotherapy or pharmacotherapy for treating depression. However, particularly when used outside of study settings, low adherence rates and the resulting diminished benefits of the intervention can limit their effectiveness. Understanding the factors that predict adherence would allow for early, tailored interventions for individuals at risk of nonadherence, thereby enhancing user engagement and optimizing therapeutic outcomes. ObjectiveThis study aims to develop and evaluate a random forest model that predicts adherence to the iFD tool to identify users at risk of noncompletion. The model was based on characteristics collected during baseline and the first week of the intervention in patients with depression. MethodsLog data from 4187 adult patients who registered for the iFD tool between October 1, 2016, and May 5, 2022, and provided informed consent were statistically analyzed. The resulting data set was divided into training (2932/4187, 70%) and test (1255/4187, 30%) sets using a randomly stratified split. The training data set was utilized to train a random forest model aimed at predicting each user’s adherence at baseline, based on the hypothesized predictors: age, self-reported gender, expectations of the intervention, current or previous depression treatments, confirmed diagnosis of depression, baseline 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) score, accompanying guide profession, and usage behavior within the first week. After training, the random forest model was evaluated on the test data set to assess its predictive performance. The importance of each variable in predicting adherence was analyzed using mean decrease accuracy, mean decrease Gini, and Shapley Additive Explanations values. ResultsOf the 4187 patients evaluated, 1019 (24.34%) were classified as adherent based on our predefined definition. An initial random forest model that relied solely on sociodemographic and clinical predictors collected at baseline did not yield a statistically significant adherence prediction. Abstract

Land use/land cover change from forested to developed land is a major threat to freshwater biodiversity globally. However, existing research has focused on high-density development in urban centers. We know less about how low-density development affects stream biodiversity, even though increases in low-density development have been documented across the globe and may be tied to the homogenization of stream biotic assemblages. Here, we investigated the diversity (alpha and beta) and assemblage composition of algal diatoms and fish over a ten-year period at three points in time (2000, 2005, 2010) in forested watersheds (n = 4) and watersheds experiencing increasing low-density development (“developing watersheds”; n = 4) in the southern Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina, USA. We employed a repeated snapshot sampling approach for the data collection. In developing watersheds, we observed higher alpha diversity and different species assemblages for both diatoms and fishes compared to forested watersheds. These differences were attributed to the establishment and/or higher abundances of cosmopolitan diatoms (e.g., Achnanthidium rivulare Potapova and Ponader, Navicula spp., Nitzschia spp.) as well as fishes (e.g., Creek Chub [Semotilus atromaculatus] and Blacknose Dace [Rhinichthys atratulus]). Most endemic species persisted in developing reaches, but in lower abundances (e.g., diatoms: Meridion alansmithii Brant; fishes: Mottled Sculpin [Cottus bairdi]). Diatom beta diversity within developing reaches was lower compared to forested reaches, and lower in 2005 and 2010 compared to 2000. Diatom assemblage composition also changed over time in developing reaches but remained stable in forested reaches. In contrast, fish beta diversity showed no significant differences between watershed types or among years, suggesting that diatom assemblages may respond more quickly or to lower levels of watershed development than fish assemblages. We conclude that biotic assemblages in streams draining developing watersheds in southern Appalachia show evidence of homogenization, but not yet extirpation of endemic taxa. Our study demonstrates the importance of understanding the effects of low-density development on biodiversity in stream ecosystems around the world before native species are lost.

Abstract

Abstract Classical photochemistry requires nanosecond excited-state lifetimes for diffusion-controlled reactions. Excited radicals with picosecond lifetimes have been implied by numerous photoredox studies, and controversy has arisen as to whether they can actually be catalytically active. We provide direct evidence for the elusive pre-association between radical ions and substrate molecules, enabling photoinduced electron transfer beyond the diffusion limit. A strategy based on two distinct light absorbers, mimicking the natural photosystems I and II, is used to generate excited radicals, unleashing extreme reduction power and activating C(sp2)―Cl and C(sp2)―F bonds. Our findings provide a long-sought mechanistic understanding for many previous synthetically-oriented works and permit more rational future photoredox reaction development. The newly developed excitation strategy pushes the current limits of reactions based on multi-photon excitation and very short-lived but highly redox active species.

Abstract

Abstract The near-field interaction between quantum emitters, governed by Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), plays a pivotal role in nanoscale energy transfer mechanisms. However, FRET measurements in the optical regime are challenging as they require nanoscale control of the position and orientation of the emitters. To overcome these challenges, microwave measurements were proposed for enhanced spatial resolution and precise orientation control. However, unlike in optical systems for which the dipole can be taken to be infinitesimal in size, the finite size of microwave antennas can affect energy transfer measurements, especially at short distances. This highlights the necessity to consider the finite antenna length to obtain accurate results. In this study, we advance the understanding of dipole–dipole energy transfer in the microwave regime by developing an analytical model that explicitly considers finite antennas. Unlike previous works, our model calculates the mutual impedance of finite-length thin-wire dipole antennas without assuming a uniform current distribution. We validate our analytical model through experiments investigating energy transfer between antennas placed adjacent to a perfect electric conductor mirror. This allows us to provide clear guidelines for designing microwave experiments, distinguishing conditions where finite-size effects can be neglected and where they must be taken into account. Our study not only contributes to the fundamental physics of energy transfer but also opens avenues for microwave antenna impedance-based measurements to complement optical FRET experiments and quantitatively explore dipole–dipole energy transfer in a wider range of conditions.

Abstract

Background: In response to the recent and growing shift from injecting heroin to smoking fentanyl, an increasing number of syringe services programs (SSPs) in the United States are distributing safer smoking supplies. There is a lack of research on whether safer smoking supply distribution is associated with increased SSP engagement and naloxone distribution from SSPs. Therefore, we aimed to assess predictors of safer smoking supply distribution by SSPs and estimate associations between safer smoking supply distribution and scale of harm reduction services. Methods: We used cross-sectional data from the National Survey of Syringe Services Programs, which surveyed SSPs from March and August 2023 about services delivered in 2022. We examined factors associated with safer smoking supply distribution and estimated associations between smoking supply distribution and the number of participant encounters and naloxone doses distributed. Results: Of the 429 SSPs included, 187 (44.1 %) distributed safer smoking supplies to participants. SSP organizational type, service delivery method, urbanicity, and regional Census divisions were associated with safer smoking supply distribution. Compared to SSPs that did not distribute safer smoking supplies, those that did reported more participant encounters (aRR=1.62, 95 % CI: 1.19–2.20) and naloxone doses distributed (aRR=1.26, 95 % CI: 0.91–1.74). Conclusions: SSPs distributing safer smoking supplies had greater participant engagement and naloxone distribution. To maximize their full individual and population-level health benefits, SSPs should be supported technically, legally, and financially to implement safer smoking supply distribution for their participants.
