This dataset includes the resources which were included in the Research Data Alliance Professionalising Data Stewardship Interest Group (RDA PDS-IG) Training Landscape sub-group report published in October 2022. The literature was structured into the following categories: data stewardship; education and training of data stewards; RDM education; training materials; data management plan templates; documents about the skills needed to support EOSC and FAIR principles; data management in the humanities, industry, life sciences, natural sciences, public institutions and the social sciences. The aim was to identify papers concerning the RDM needs of researchers and data stewards and their role in the RDM life cycle. The screening resulted in 125 papers that are used as the knowledge base for the output report.

This is the third status report from our project investigating the potentials of AI-powered search in the context of the university library. The overall aim of this project is to investigate the extent different artificial intelligence (AI) powered search software support researchers and students in academic literature search. Our findings will inform future services at the university libraries affiliated to the Royal Library in Denmark. Support through searching using AI-powered technologies can be provided in a multitude of ways – through saving time, through searching more efficiently and effectively, through providing new avenues of discovery and through transparency and documentation. We have a working hypothesis in the project that different types of users (student, senior researchers and library staff) place different values on different types of support. In the first delivery project we stated how AI-powered search is actually defined within the confines of the project, and which AI-software will be tested and why, (Wildgaard, Johnsen, & Kiersgaard, 2020). The chosen software, Iris.ai and Yewno.discover, has been tested throughout the Spring/Summer of 2021 in Think-Aloud tests with information specialists as test-participants. The aim, to investigate the AI-systems from a search professional point of view, (Appendix 1). The results of the think-aloud tests showed that information specialists are influenced by their background in information science, where they work in curated databases with block searches, thesauri and document representations. It is immediately clear that the test systems presented a whole new way of working with information retrieval and literature reviews. Our test subjects found it interesting to dive into these systems, but it frustrated them that they could not understand what was going on "behind the scenes" and in the "engine room". Understanding the system architecture is a very important aspect for information specialists in relation to teaching, support, and being able to provide high-quality professional search and research support. Both Iris.ai and Yewno.discover confronted the professional competence of our test subjects and challenged search methodology and research integrity, specifically transparency and documentation. These results challenge the use of AI-systems in a library context as new definitions and requirements to an academic search need to be defined. In the Think-aloud Tests the focus was on the functionality of the systems. We were not able to analyze the extent the goals of an academic search based on a well-defined research question are supported by the AI systems. Neither could we test how these systems create value for users. Therefore, in the Autumn of 2021, we invited researchers and information specialists to a Hackathon, where we had the opportunity to learn more about the efficiency and relevance of AIpowered search systems in "real-life" academic search, where transparency, reproducibility, stability, documentation and reliability are key. A Hackathon is a hosted event where participants work in collaboration to rapidly complete set tasks and solve problems but they are alsobeing used to provide learning and knowledge exchange opportunities, to create new and enhance existing social connections, and to investigate new technical opportunities. A Hackathon demands careful planning and explicit goals. Our goal was to use the Hackathon event to challenge participants to be creative in their searches, apply their analytical skills and at the same time deliver insights in to their needs for AI-enhanced literature search support at the library. The main conclusion is thatthe tested AI-powered systems force the user to let go of traditional approaches to search, for example block searches, proximity operators and Boolean logic and broaden our perception of how an academic search can be conducted. Such a reflection can cause a paradigm shift in information seeking practice, that demands new terminology, understandings, standards and expectations to the search and also to the competencies of the searchers. Our hackathon indicates that increased knowledge and skills in system architecture, source criticism and research conduct are essential.

Presentation to theDINI/nestor-Workshop: "Data Stewardship im Forschungsdatenmanagement - Was ist das? Rollen, Aufgabenprofile, Einsatzgebiete". The presentation is in English and covers a brief introduction to the Danish project on Data Steward Education, the thoughts behind a new 1 yr master in Data Stewardship and links to other initiatives on the professionalisation of Data Stewardship.

Whether employed in the corporate or in the university realm, a Data Steward’s (DS) role is to ensure the data activities of the organisation follow and contribute to the development of established governance policies, standards or best practices and optimize data. As of yet, there is no formal university education in Denmark to train persons to fill this vital position. We aim to provide input and point towards a possible prequalification of a DS education in Denmark. This report is part of the Data Stewardship Education in Denmark Project. Abstract Whether employed in the corporate or in the university realm, a Data Steward’s role is to ensure that the data management practises of the organisation follow established governance policies, standards or best practises. The Data Steward is in a position of trust, having responsibility for the governance, management and exploitation possibilities of a researcher’s or enterprise’s data. However, the professionalisation of Data Stewardship can only move forward and become stronger with improved data steward education opportunities. In this paper we explore the differences and commonalities in academic and corporate approaches to educating data stewards. The aim is to process a set of recommendations that can guide the development of novel data steward educations in Denmark. A content and thematic analysis of 24 current data stewardship educations, 8 academic and 16 corporate, was conducted resulting in identification of 5 recommendations. These are: (1) Collaboration between academia and industry result in relevant educations that have a stronger recognition in stakeholder communities, including potential employers, thus improving the student’s (2) employability (3) Course design based on experiential learning creates motivation and presents the student with real-life requirements to data stewardship. (4) Skills and competencies must not be limited to technical proficiency. Being able to assess the value of Data Stewardship, communicate, teach, soft skills, have disciplinary knowledge and the ability to project manage are, amongst, requirements for curricula development. (5) Association certification is recommended. Certification should be renewed, and further education opportunities should be offered to indicate commitment to skill maintenance. Results of the analyses show that the DS provides a multitude of services, that differ in the context of which he or she is employed. Primarily, the DS functions as a bridge between the organisation, infrastructures and the end user/customer. However, we identified four common roles that appear across all sectors and are supported to varying degrees in current educations. These are the roles of the DS as an Administrator, Analyst, Developer and Agent of Change. In particular, an educational model is recommended that supports: experiential learning and internships; flexibility to encompass the activities and commitment that successful internships entail and, has a balance of practice in “hard” technical skills such as programming and work-flow optimization, soft skills in teaching, communication, networking and project management as well as disciplinary knowledge and good data management practices (ethics, policy and accountability). The report finds the current position of data stewardship education in academia to be in its infancy, whereas in the corporate world education is much more advanced. Future education in data stewardship can benefit from a strong collaboration between academia and the corporate world, to ensure the education has a stronger recognition in stakeholder communities, including potential employers, thus improving the student’s employability. The major weakness of current academic educations in DS, in the lack of opportunity for the graduate to up-skill through flexible, short term education. Further education should be offered to ensure skill maintenance. Recommendations discussed include the following. • Offering a two year Candidatus in data stewardship, with courses available through the Open University to support mature students with a professional background. • A 1 year master programme in data stewardship (BA +1), on the condition it is open to students with a minimum of a bachelor. Thus, the programme could also be open to master students, PhD’s and through the Open University to mature students. On the aforementioned condition, the 1 year education provides a dynamic learning environment and relevant upskilling programme that can rapidly supply DS to the hungry job market. • Clearly define what a DS is in the curriculum. • Using teaching and learning activities that have a degree of flexibility to support both internship programmes and the student’s academic course work. • Using an innovative combination of on-campus teaching and online learning, bootcamps and workshops, preferably developed and taught in collaboration with local industry, departments and organisations. The report also investigates if a national coordinated education in Denmark should be developed between universities and industry or if competition between these parties is a healthy competition, resulting in diverse educational programmes appealing to different audiences. Data stewardship is rapidly evolving and holds a key role in digital society in the public sector, the corporate world, as well as the research and education (R&E) sectors. We strongly recommend therefore a common national approach to university education in data stewardship and engage with national, European and international initiatives in a coordinated manner to ensure both an education aligned with policy, initiatives and directions in data stewardship and job mobility for our graduates. The analyses used in the report have limitations. The investigation into the skills and job profiles of practicing DS in Denmark is biased towards industry. Only a few DS employed in academia were included in the study. This we consider to be caused by source-bias, in that the data used in the analysis was harvested from Linked In. The study could have been more representative if we had included other sources, to ensure an equal representation of DS employed in academia and those employed in industry. We only managed to undertake four interviews, thus we achieved cultural probing rather than a representative sample. The study was conducted within a short period of time, therefore we had to limit our input and also the scope of the project as well as the analysis of our results.

PurposeSystematic reviews of biomedical literature are used to inform patient treatment. Yet the acquisition of relevant literature is proving increasingly challenging due to the large volume of information that needs to be searched, filtered and collocated. There is a need to improve the efficiency of biomedical literature searches. PubMed remains the primary resource for biomedical literature, and as PubMed makes the Medline data and Entrez PubMed Programming utilities freely available, any developer can produce alternative tools to search the database. The authors question if PubMed still provides the superior search interface for systematic searches or if the innovativeness of third-party tools provide alternatives worth considering. The paper aims to discuss these issues.Design/methodology/approachIn all, 76 third-party tools that build on PubMed content were identified in a PubMed search and in published studies known to the authors. Only tools that provided free access to the broad PubMed content and designed specifically to enhance the search were included, reducing the set to 16 tools. The functionality of each tool within the scenario of a systematic search was compared across 11 aspects. A systematic search in PubMed was used as study control.FindingsThe 16 tools limited rather than advanced the sorting, filtering, and export functionality required in a systematic search. The reproducibility of the searches in these sources was reduced. The study shows that PubMed remains the superior provider for searching, identifying, and exporting biomedical literature for systematic reviews.Originality/valueThe work contributes to the discussion of how librarians can help researchers navigate the biomedical literature in systematic reviews.

‘Ready to use’ bibliometric indicators are being used by end users as never before. Administrators and evaluators for assessment purposes, whereas researchers add indicators to their CV in a competitive move to show visibility in the academic community. ‘Ready to use’ indicators are important as they provide researchers with the opportunity to evaluate the effect of their own published works before being evaluated by others. The numerical values of these indicators have personal significance to the individual as they can be interpreted as criteria of success or failure, therefore the bibliometric community must investigate the psychological effects of ‘ready to use’ indicator

Despite of the concerns from the bibliometric community, evaluation of the individual through bibliometric indices is already performed as a form of ‘pseudo peer review’ in selection of candidates for tenure, in background checks of potential employees’ publicationand citation impact, and in appraisal of funding applications. We investigate the role of central and isolated indicators in the fields of Astronomy, Environmental Science, Philosophy and Public Health and the effect these have on author-rankings.

We collected publication and citation data in two databases to investigate the extent performance of author-level indicators are effected by choice of database, the stability of indicators across databases and ultimately to illustrate how differences in the computed indicators change our perception of individual researchers. In this report we begin by comparing database coverage, coverage at seniority and gender-level and then the performance of four basic indicators computed in both databases. In the main deliverable 5.4a, we investigate in a cluster analysis the performance of our previously identified 108 indicators of author-level impact. Understanding the effect of the database used to source the data and the demographics of the researchers in our sample, will enable us to put the results of our cluster analysis in perspective and direct future studies

The results show performance in bibliometric evaluation is highly individual and using indicators as “benchmarks” unwise. Based on the samples from the four research fields used in the other WPs we have identified 793 researchers with online publication lists. Publication data from these researchers were gathered and combined with demographic data from the survey. Bibliometric analyses of these publications were undertaken in WoS and Google Scholar using a set of indicators designed for assessment at the individual level. The sample of 64 indicators were previously identified in the review of 114 bibliometric indicators, as presented in Madrid in January 2013. The set of 64 indicators has been reduced to 40 using a number of selection criteria.
