BackgroundTechnology is rapidly advancing our understanding of how people with diabetes mellitus experience stress. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to explore the relationship between stress and sequelae of diabetes mellitus within a unique data set composed of adults enrolled in a digital diabetes management program, Livongo, in order to inform intervention and product development. MethodsParticipants included 3263 adults under age 65 who were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and had access to Livongo through their employer between June 2015 and August 2018. Data were collected at time of enrollment and 12 months thereafter, which included demographic information, glycemic control, presence of stress, diabetes distress, diabetes empowerment, behavioral health diagnosis, and utilization of behavioral health-related medication and services. Analysis of variance and chi-square tests compared variables across groups that were based on presence of stress and behavioral health diagnosis or utilization. ResultsFifty-five percent of participants (1808/3263) reported stress at the time of at least 1 blood glucose reading. Fifty-two percent of participants (940/1808) also received at least 1 behavioral health diagnosis or intervention. Compared to their peers, participants with stress reported greater diabetes distress, lower diabetes empowerment, greater insulin use, and poorer glycemic control. Participants with stress and a behavioral health diagnosis/utilization additionally had higher body mass index and duration of illness. ConclusionsStress among people with diabetes mellitus is associated with reduced emotional and physical health. Digital products that focus on the whole person by offering both diabetes mellitus self-management tools and behavioral health skills and support can help improve disease-specific and psychosocial outcomes.

Esophageal cancer (EC), a common type of malignant tumor, ranks as the sixth highest contributor to cancer-related mortality worldwide. Due to the condition that most patients with EC are diagnosed at advanced or metastatic status, the efficacy of conventional treatments including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy is limited, resulting in a dismal 5-year overall survival rate. In recent years, the application of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has presented a novel therapeutic avenue for EC patients. Both ICIs monotherapy and immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy (CRT) have demonstrated marked benefits for patients with advanced EC. Adjuvant or neoadjuvant therapy incorporating immunotherapy has also demonstrated promising prospects in the context of perioperative treatment. Nonetheless, due to the variable response observed among patients undergoing immunotherapy, it is of vital importance to identify predictive biomarkers for patient stratification, to facilitate identification of subgroups who may derive greater benefits from immunotherapy. In this review, we summarize validated or potential biomarkers for immunotherapy in EC in three dimensions: tumor-cell-associated biomarkers, tumor-immune microenvironment (TIME)-associated factors, and host-associated biomarkers, so as to provide a theoretical foundation to inform tailored therapy for individuals diagnosed with EC.

Introduction Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) treatment only relies on the standard treatment of nonspecific invasive breast cancer (NSIBC), and it remains controversial whether the survival of patients improves. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the clinicopathological features of IMPC and to investigate the factors affecting its prognosis. Material and methods This retrospective cohort study included 104 IMPC patients who met the study’s inclusion criteria out of a total of 4,532 patients with invasive breast cancer between January 2015 and December 2019. A contemporaneous cohort of 230 patients with non-specific invasive breast cancer (NSIBC) who underwent surgery was identified and matched using propensity scores. Results The survival rate for patients with IMPC ranged from 1.12% to 7.03%. Statistically significant differences were observed in the proportion of endocrine treatment, lymphatic invasion, estrogen receptor (ER)-positive rate, molecular subtypes, molecular typing, and 5-year loco-regional recurrence-free survival (LRRFS) between the two cohorts (p < 0.05). The univariate analysis showed that T stage, N stage, lymphatic invasion, vascular invasion, ER-positive rate, and progesterone receptor (PR)-negative rate were all prognosis risk factors (p < 0.05) for IMPC. Furthermore, the multivariate analysis indicated that lymphatic invasion and N stage were independent prognostic factors (p < 0.05). Conclusions The incidence of micropapillary IMPC, among other pathological subtypes, is steadily increasing. ER-positive and PR-positive rates, as well as luminal subtypes, are frequent, with a concurrent increase in the 5-year locoregional recurrence rate. It would be interesting to compare the effect following these therapeutic modifications in larger cohorts in future studies.

However, the difference of freeze–thaw sperm quality and fertility in boars of different ages is unclear. In this study, boars of a Chinese native breed were assigned into two groups. Each group consisted of five boars aged aged either 2–3 years (young boars = YB) or 5–6 years (aging boars = AB) A total of 60 ejaculates for each group were collected and cryopreserved. Abstract Objectives Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) can cause sinus obstruction and stenosis, with potentially fatal consequences. High-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HRMRI) can diagnose CVST qualitatively, although quantitative screening methods are lacking for patients refractory to anticoagulation therapy and who may benefit from endovascular treatment (EVT). Thus, in this study, we used radiomic features (RFs) extracted from HRMRI to build machine learning models to predict response to drug therapy and determine the appropriateness of EVT. Materials and methods RFs were extracted from three-dimensional T1-weighted motion-sensitized driven equilibrium (MSDE), T2-weighted MSDE, T1-contrast, and T1-contrast MSDE sequences to build radiomic signatures and support vector machine (SVM) models for predicting the efficacy of standard drug therapy and the necessity of EVT. Results We retrospectively included 53 patients with CVST in a prospective cohort study, among whom 14 underwent EVT after standard drug therapy failed. Thirteen RFs were selected to construct the RF signature and CVST-SVM models. In the validation dataset, the sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve performance for the RF signature model were 0.833, 0.937, and 0.977, respectively. The radiomic score was correlated with days from symptom onset, history of dyslipidemia, smoking, fibrin degradation product, and D-dimer levels. The sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve for the CVST-SVM model in the validation set were 0.917, 0.969, and 0.992, respectively. Conclusions The CVST-SVM model trained with RFs extracted from HRMRI outperformed the RF signature model and could aid physicians in predicting patient responses to drug treatment and identifying those who may require EVT.

Abstract Background Salt stress severely restricts rapeseed growth and productivity. Hemin can effectively alleviate salt stress in plants. However, the regulatory effect of Hemin on rapeseed in salt stress is unclear. Here, we analyzed the response and remediation mechanism of Hemin application to rapeseed before and after 0.6% (m salt: m soil) NaCl stress. Experiment using two Brassica napus (AACC, 2n = 38) rapeseed varieties Huayouza 158R (moderately salt-tolerant) and Huayouza 62 (strongly salt-tolerant). To explore the best optional ways to improve salt stress resistance in rapeseed. Results Our findings revealed that exogenous application of Hemin enhanced morph-physiological traits of rapeseed and significantly attenuate the inhibition of NaCl stress. Compared to Hemin (SH) treatment, Hemin (HS) significantly improved seedlings root length, seedlings height, stem diameter and accumulated more dry matter biomass under NaCl stress. Moreover, Hemin (HS) significantly improved photosynthetic efficiency, activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and decreased electrolyte leakage (EL) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content, thus resulting in the alleviation of oxidative membrane damage. Hemin (HS) showed better performance than Hemin (SH) under NaCl stress. Conclusion Hemin could effectively mitigate the adverse impacts of salt stress by regulating the morph-physiological, photosynthetic and antioxidants traits of rapeseed. This study may provide a basis for Hemin to regulate cultivated rapeseed salt tolerance and explore a better way to alleviate salt stress.
