Abstract Capturing forceful interaction with deformable objects during manipulation benefits applications like virtual reality, telemedicine, and robotics. Replicating full hand-object states with complete geometry is challenging because of the occluded object deformations. Here, we report a visual-tactile recording and tracking system for manipulation featuring a stretchable tactile glove with 1152 force-sensing channels and a visual-tactile joint learning framework to estimate dynamic hand-object states during manipulation. To overcome the strain interference caused by contact with deformable objects, an active suppression method based on symmetric response detection and adaptive calibration is proposed and achieves 97.6% accuracy in force measurement, contributing to an improvement of 45.3%. The learning framework processes the visual-tactile sequence and reconstructs hand-object states. We experiment on 24 objects from 6 categories including both deformable and rigid ones with an average reconstruction error of 1.8 cm for all sequences, demonstrating a universal ability to replicate human knowledge in manipulating objects with varying degrees of deformability.

Abstract Background Soybean seeds are rich in protein and oil. The selection of varieties that produce high-quality seeds has been one of the priorities of soybean breeding programs. However, the influence of improved seed quality on the rhizosphere microbiota and whether the microbiota is involved in determining seed quality are still unclear. Here, we analyzed the structures of the rhizospheric bacterial communities of 100 soybean varieties, including 53 landraces and 47 modern cultivars, and evaluated the interactions between seed quality traits and rhizospheric bacteria. Results We found that rhizospheric bacterial structures differed between landraces and cultivars and that this difference was directly related to their oil content. Seven bacterial families (Sphingomonadaceae, Gemmatimonadaceae, Nocardioidaceae, Xanthobacteraceae, Chitinophagaceae, Oxalobacteraceae, and Streptomycetaceae) were obviously enriched in the rhizospheres of the high-oil cultivars. Among them, Oxalobacteraceae (Massilia) was assembled specifically by the root exudates of high-oil cultivars and was associated with the phenolic acids and flavonoids in plant phenylpropanoid biosynthetic pathways. Furthermore, we showed that Massilia affected auxin signaling or interfered with active oxygen-related metabolism. In addition, Massilia activated glycolysis pathway, thereby promoting seed oil accumulation. Conclusions These results provide a solid theoretical basis for the breeding of revolutionary soybean cultivars with desired seed quality and optimal microbiomes and the development of new cultivation strategies for increasing the oil content of seeds. Abstract Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has gained increasing attention in artificial photosynthesis of H2O2, yet its performance is hindered by sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics and short excited-state electron lifetimes. Here we show a B-doped g-C3N4 (BCN) tailored with coordinatively unsaturated FeOOH and CoO x clusters for H2O2 photosynthesis from water and oxygen without sacrificial agents. The optimal material delivers a 30-fold activity enhancement compared with g-C3N4 under visible light, with a solar-to-chemical conversion efficiency of 0.75%, ranking among the forefront of reported g-C3N4-based photocatalysts. Additionally, an electron transfer efficiency reaches 34.1% for the oxygen reduction reaction as revealed by in situ microsecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Experimental and theoretical results reveal that CoO x initiates hole–water oxidation and prolongs the electron lifetime, whereas FeOOH accepts electrons and promotes oxygen activation. Intriguingly, the key to the direct one-step two-electron reaction pathway for H2O2 production lies in coordinatively unsaturated FeOOH to adjust the Pauling-type adsorption configuration of O2 to stabilize peroxide species and restrain the formation of superoxide radicals.

Abstract Fungi are very common infectious pathogens, which may cause invasive and potentially life-threatening infections. However, the efficacy of antifungal medications remains limited. Herein, a Cu2+-phenolic nanoflower is designed to combat fungal infections by combining cuproptosis and cell wall digestion. Firstly, protocatechuic acid (PA)-Cu2+ (PC) nanopetals are prepared by coordination interaction. Lywallzyme (Lyw) is then added to induce the self-assembly of PC to form Lyw loaded PC (PCW) nanoflowers. PCW nanoflowers can effectively adhere to fungal surface and Lyw can digest fungal cell walls to facilitate Cu2+ to penetrate into fungal interior, thereby exerting a synergistic fungicidal effect. PCW nanoflowers exhibit excellent fungicidal activity even in protein-rich and high-salt conditions, where dissociative Cu2+ completely loses fungicidal activity. Transcriptome sequencing analysis reveals that PCW can lead to fungal cuproptosis. The in vivo fungicidal effect of PCW nanoflowers is confirmed on a murine skin fungal infection model and a murine fungal keratitis model.

This study investigates the interactions between virtual cities in electronic (video) games and real urban environments, highlighting a significant gap in the literature regarding the influence of real cities on virtual counterparts and vice versa. Drawing on classical urban theories, it sets two primary objectives: to systematically review how real cities are represented in games and to explore the impacts of virtual cities on real urban areas. Through typological analysis, it identifies two pathways – form and function – through which real cities manifest in games, using specific cases like Cities: Skylines to illustrate these pathways. The principle for virtual city design is also outlined, with an emphasis on the “selection” and “subtraction” of real urban elements in designing processes. Additionally, it discusses how virtual cities impact urban tourism, fostering phenomena like anime pilgrimages, and urban planning, and enhancing public engagement in planning processes. Finally, this research contributes to some newly emerging theories such as Digital Twins by elucidating the interactive relationship between physical and virtual urban spaces.

Abstract The origin of energetic charged particles in universe remains an unresolved issue. Astronomical observations combined with simulations have provided insights into particle acceleration mechanisms, including magnetic reconnection acceleration, shock acceleration, and stochastic acceleration. Recent experiments have also confirmed that electrons can be accelerated through processes such as magnetic reconnection and collisionless shock formation. However, laboratory identifying stochastic acceleration as a feasible mechanism is still a challenge, particularly in the creation of collision-free turbulent plasmas. Here, we present experimental results demonstrating kinetic turbulence with a typical spectrum k −2.9 originating from Weibel instability. Energetic electrons exhibiting a power-law distribution are clearly observed. Simulations further reveal that thermal electrons undergo stochastic acceleration through collisions with multiple magnetic islands-like structures within the turbulent region. This study sheds light on a critical transition period during supernova explosion, where kinetic turbulences originating from Weibel instability emerge prior to collisionless shock formation. Our results suggest that electrons undergo stochastic acceleration during this transition phase.

Abstract While protein aggregation’s association with aging and age-related diseases is well-established, the specific proteins involved and whether dissolving them could alleviate aging remain unclear. Our research addresses this gap by uncovering the role of PKM2 aggregates in aging. We find that PKM2 forms aggregates in senescent cells and organs from aged mice, impairing its enzymatic activity and glycolytic flux, thereby driving cells into senescence. Through a rigorous two-step small molecule library screening, we identify two compounds, K35 and its analog K27, capable of dissolving PKM2 aggregates and alleviating senescence. Further experiments show that treatment with K35 and K27 not only alleviate aging-associated signatures but also extend the lifespan of naturally and prematurely aged mice. These findings provide compelling evidence for the involvement of PKM2 aggregates in inducing cellular senescence and aging phenotypes, and suggest that targeting these aggregates could be a promising strategy for anti-aging drug discovery.

Land use/land cover represents the interactive and comprehensive influences between human activities and natural conditions, leading to potential conflicts among natural and human-related issues as well as among stakeholders. This study introduced economic standards for farmers. A hybrid approach (CA-ABM) of cellular automaton (CA) and an agent-based model (ABM) was developed to effectively deal with social and land-use synergic issues to examine human–environment interactions and projections of land-use conversions for a humid basin in south China. Natural attributes and socioeconomic data were used to analyze land use/land cover and its drivers of change. The major modules of the CA-ABM are initialization, migration, assets, land suitability, and land-use change decisions. Empirical estimates of the factors influencing the urban land-use conversion probability were captured using parameters based on a spatial logistic regression (SLR) model. Simultaneously, multicriteria evaluation (MCE) and Markov models were introduced to obtain empirical estimates of the factors affecting the probability of ecological land conversion. An agent-based CA-SLR-MCE-Markov (ABCSMM) land-use conversion model was proposed to explore the impacts of policies on land-use conversion. This model can reproduce observed land-use patterns and provide links for forest transition and urban expansion to land-use decisions and ecosystem services. The results demonstrated land-use simulations under multi-policy scenarios, revealing the usefulness of the model for normative research on land-use management.

A scheme for a quasi-monoenergetic high-flux neutron source with femtosecond duration and highly anisotropic angular distribution is proposed. This scheme is based on bulk acceleration of deuteron ions in an optical trap or density grating formed by two counter-propagating laser pulses at an intensity of ∼1016W/cm2 in a near-critical-density plasma. The deuterons are first pre-accelerated to an energy of tens of keV in the ambipolar fields formed in the optical trap. Their energy is boosted to the MeV level by another one or two laser pulses at an intensity of ∼1020W/cm2, enabling fusion reactions to be triggered with high efficiency. In contrast to previously proposed pitcher–catcher configurations, our scheme can provide spatially periodic acceleration structures and effective collisions between deuterons inside the whole target volume. Subsequently, neutrons are generated directly inside the optical trap. Our simulations show that neutron pulses with energy 2–8 MeV, yield 1018–1019n/s, and total number 106–107 in a duration ∼400 fs can be obtained with a 25 μm target. Moreover, the neutron pulses exhibit unique angularly dependent energy spectra and flux distributions, predominantly along the axis of the energy-boosting lasers. Such microsize femtosecond neutron pulses may find many applications, such as high-resolution fast neutron imaging and nuclear physics research.

Objective Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have an increased risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (CCEs). Furthermore, CCE was a significant factor contributing to mortality in patients with SLE. However, no clinical model exists that can predict which patients are at high risk. The purpose of this study was to develop a practical model for predicting the risk of CCE in people with SLE.Methods This study was based on the Chinese SLE Treatment and Research Group cohort. A total of 2399 patients, who had a follow-up period of over 3 years and were diagnosed with SLE for less than 1 year at the start of the study, were included. Cox proportional hazards regression and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression were used to establish the model. Internal validation was performed, and the predictive power of the model was evaluated.Results During the follow-up period, 93 patients had CCEs. The prediction model included nine variables: male gender, smoking, hypertension, age of SLE onset >40, cutaneous involvement, arthritis, anti-β2GP1 antibody positivity, high-dose glucocorticoids and hydroxychloroquine usage. The model’s C index was 0.801. Patients with a prognostic index over 0.544 were classified into the high-risk group.Conclusion We have developed a predictive model that uses clinical indicators to assess the probability of CCE in patients diagnosed with SLE. This model has the ability to precisely predict the risk of CCE in patients with SLE. We recommended using this model in the routine assessment of patients with SLE.

Abstract Background and aims The 2022 European Society of Cardiology/European Respiratory Society (ESC/ERS) guideline has recently revised the hemodynamic definition of pulmonary arterial hypertension. However, there is currently limited research on the prognosis and treatment of system lupus erythematosus-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (SLE-PAH) patients that have been reclassified by the new hemodynamic definition. This study aims to analyze the prognosis of newly reclassified SLE-PAH patients and provide recommendations for the management strategy. Methods This retrospective study analyzed records of 236 SLE-PAH patients who visited Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) from 2011 to 2023, among whom 22 patients were reclassified into mild SLE-PAH (mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) of 21–24 mmHg, pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) of 2–3 WU, and PAWP ≤ 15 mmHg) according to the guidelines and 14 were defined as unclassified SLE-PAH patients (mPAP 21–24 mmHg and PVR ≤ 2 WU). The prognosis was compared among mild SLE-PAH, unclassified SLE-PH, and conventional SLE-PAH patients (mPAP ≥ 25 mmHg and PVR > 3WU). Besides, the effectiveness of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)-specific therapy was evaluated in mild SLE-PAH patients. Results Those mild SLE-PAH patients had significantly longer progression-free time than the conventional SLE-PAH patients. Among the mild SLE-PAH patients, 4 did not receive PAH-specific therapy and had a similar prognosis as patients not receiving specific therapy. Conclusions This study supports the revised hemodynamic definition of SLE-PAH in the 2022 ESC/ERS guideline. Those mild and unclassified SLE-PH patients had a better prognosis, demonstrating the possibility and significance of early diagnosis and intervention for SLE-PAH. This study also proposed a hypothesis that IIT against SLE might be sufficient for those reclassified SLE-PAH patients.

Abstract While strategies such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy have become the first-line standard therapies for patients with advanced or metastatic cancer, acquired resistance is still inevitable in most cases. The introduction of antibody‒drug conjugates (ADCs) provides a novel alternative. ADCs are a new class of anticancer drugs comprising the coupling of antitumor mAbs with cytotoxic drugs. Compared with chemotherapeutic drugs, ADCs have the advantages of good tolerance, accurate target recognition, and small effects on noncancerous cells. ADCs occupy an increasingly important position in the therapeutic field. Currently, there are 13 Food and Drug Administration (FDA)‒approved ADCs and more than 100 ADC drugs at different stages of clinical trials. This review briefly describes the efficacy and safety of FDA-approved ADCs, and discusses the related problems and challenges to provide a reference for clinical work.

Background Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a malignant condition in humans. Anoikis-related genes (ARGs) are crucial to cancer progression. Therefore, more studies on the relationship between ARGs and ESCC are warranted.Methods The study acquired ESCC-related transcriptome data from TCGA. Differentially expressed ARGs (DE-ARGs) were obtained by differential analysis and candidates were filtered out by survival analysis. Prognostic genes were determined by Cox and LASSO regression. A risk model was constructed based on prognostic gene expressions. An immune infiltration study was done to explain how these genes contribute to ESCC development. The IC50 test was adopted to assess the clinical response of chemotherapy drugs. Single cell analysis was performed on the GSE145370 dataset. Moreover, the prognostic gene expressions were detected by qRT-PCR.Results 53 DE-ARGs were screened and four candidate genes including PBK, LAMC2, TNFSF10 and KL were obtained. Cox and LASSO regression identified the two prognostic genes, TNFSF10 and PBK. Immuno-infiltration analysis revealed positive associations of PBK with Macrophages M0 cells, and TNFSF10 with Macrophages M1 cells. The IC50 values of predicted drugs, in the case of Tozasertib 1096 and WIKI4 1940, were significantly variant between risk groups. Single cell analysis revealed that TNFSF10 and PBK levels were higher in epithelial cells than in other cells. The prognostic genes expression results by qRT-PCR were compatible with the dataset analysis.Conclusion The study established an ARG prognosis model of ESCC. It provided a reference for the research of ARGs in ESCC.

The real-time monitoring of corn yield by a combine harvester is a critical data source for constructing the yield histogram, which significantly benefits precision management and decision-making in modern precision agriculture. While widely used, the current photoelectric sensor-based yield monitoring method has limitations. It detects the corn height on each scraper and calculates the yield through a geometric formula. However, it neglects the noticeable difference in the corn stacking patterns affected by factors such as feeding volume, terrain, and driving speed. This oversight often results in low accuracy and poor stability in the prediction of corn yield, highlighting the need for a more advanced approach. To resolve this, we employ EDEM discrete element simulation to demonstrate the large difference of corn stacking patterns on the scraper of the elevator corresponding to feeding volume. Then, we develop a real-time monitoring system on our self-developed double elevator testing rig for carrying out a composite dataset for training three machine learning algorithm-based models, namely Deep Neural Networks (DNN), Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM), and Random Forest (RF). Importantly, these models have undergone rigorous validation under various feeding volumes, ensuring their robustness and reliability. The auxiliary elevator speed is meticulously set at 150r/min, 225r/min, and 450r/min, providing a comprehensive performance assessment. The results denote that the DNN model performs best and is stable, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.998, root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.526, and mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.425. The paper also performs field experiments to test the proposed three prediction models and the system. The results also denote the DNN-based prediction model’s best performance for the lowest relative error of 2.29% and the highest average accuracy of 97.85%. Consequently, the proposed real-time corn yield monitoring system achieves high accuracy and reliability for the combine harvester applications.

BackgroundMild cognitive impairment is a heterogeneous syndrome. The heterogeneity of the syndrome and the absence of consensus limited the advancement of MCI. The purpose of our research is to create a visual framework of the last decade, highlight the hotspots of current research, and forecast the most fruitful avenues for future MCI research.MethodsWe collected all the MCI-related literature published between 1 January 2013, and 24 April 2023, on the “Web of Science.” The visual graph was created by the CiteSpace and VOSviewer. The current research hotspots and future research directions are summarized through the analysis of keywords and co-cited literature.ResultsThere are 6,075 articles were included in the final analysis. The number of publications shows an upward trend, especially after 2018. The United States and the University of California System are the most prolific countries and institutions, respectively. Petersen is the author who ranks first in terms of publication volume and influence. Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease was the most productive journal. “neuroimaging,” “fluid markers,” and “predictors” are the focus of current research, and “machine learning,” “electroencephalogram,” “deep learning,” and “blood biomarkers” are potential research directions in the future.ConclusionThe cognition of MCI has been continuously evolved and renewed by multiple countries’ joint efforts in the past decade. Hotspots for current research are on diagnostic biomarkers, such as fluid markers, neuroimaging, and so on. Future hotspots might be focused on the best prognostic and diagnostic models generated by machine learning and large-scale screening tools such as EEG and blood biomarkers.

The adhesive layer is an important factor affecting the mechanical properties of FRP- bamboo scrimber composite beams (FBSCB). However, studies on the interfacial shear stresses in the adhesive layers with both ends of FRP and bamboo scrimber beam aligned have been rarely reported. To this end, a two-parameter theoretical calculation model and a finite element model (FEM) based on cohesive zone model were hereby established to solve for the adhesive layer interface shear stresses, which was verified by four-point bending experiments. The results show that both the two-parameter theoretical model and the FEM can effectively compute the shear stress of the adhesive layer. Meanwhile, the FEM simulation results not only reflect the detailed changes of the shear stress, but also provide a better analysis of the shear stress at the adhesive layer with a small fluctuation range. There are three zones of shear stress at the adhesive layer of FBSCB under four-point bending load, i.e., the bending and shearing zone, the transition zone and the pure bending zone. In the bending and shearing zone, the shear stress of the adhesive layer interface increases 2.61 times and 2.5 times, respectively when the thickness and elastic modulus of FRP increase three times. However, the stress remains constant at zero in the pure bending zone.

ObjectiveExisting literature has not clearly elucidated whether SARS-CoV-2 infection increases the incidence of Parkinson’s disease or if Parkinson’s disease patients are more susceptible to the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection. To clarify the issue, this study employs a genetic epidemiological approach to investigate the association.MethodsThis study utilizes a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis. The primary analysis employs the inverse variance-weighted (IVW) method, supplemented by secondary analyses including MR-Egger regression, weighted median, IVW radial method, and weighted mode, to evaluate the bidirectional causal relationship between Parkinson’s disease and SARS-CoV-2 infection.ResultsIVW results showed no genetic causality between SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility, hospitalization rate and severity and Parkinson’s disease. (IVW method: p = 0.408 OR = 1.10 95% CI: 0.87 ~ 1.39; p = 0.744 OR = 1.11 95% CI: 0.94 ~ 1.09; p = 0.436 OR = 1.05 95% CI: 0.93 ~ 1.17). Parkinson’s disease was not genetically associated with susceptibility to new crown infections, hospitalization rates, and severity (IVW method: p = 0.173 OR = 1.01 95% CI: 0.99 ~ 1.03; p = 0.109 OR = 1.05 95% CI: 0.99 ~ 1.12; p = 0.209 OR = 1.03 95% CI: 0.99 ~ 1.07). MR-Egger regression, weighted median, IVW radial method, and weighted mode results are consistent with the results of the IVW method.ConclusionThis study does not support a genetic link between Parkinson’s disease and SARS-CoV-2 infection, and the association observed in previous cohort studies and observational studies may be due to other confounding factors.

Depression, projected to be the predominant contributor to the global disease burden, is a complex condition with diverse symptoms including mood disturbances and cognitive impairments. Traditional treatments such as medication and psychotherapy often fall short, prompting the pursuit of alternative interventions. Recent research has highlighted the significant role of gut microbiota in mental health, influencing emotional and neural regulation. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), the infusion of fecal matter from a healthy donor into the gut of a patient, emerges as a promising strategy to ameliorate depressive symptoms by restoring gut microbial balance. The microbial-gut-brain (MGB) axis represents a critical pathway through which to potentially rectify dysbiosis and modulate neuropsychiatric outcomes. Preclinical studies reveal that FMT can enhance neurochemicals and reduce inflammatory markers, thereby alleviating depressive behaviors. Moreover, FMT has shown promise in clinical settings, improving gastrointestinal symptoms and overall quality of life in patients with depression. The review highlights the role of the gut-brain axis in depression and the need for further research to validate the long-term safety and efficacy of FMT, identify specific therapeutic microbial strains, and develop targeted microbial modulation strategies. Advancing our understanding of FMT could revolutionize depression treatment, shifting the paradigm toward microbiome-targeting therapies.

IntroductionGrass-livestock interaction is of great value in maintaining ecological balance, regional economic development, and the sustainability of grassland husbandry, which has gained attention in recent years in both academia and practice, however, study on grass-livestock interaction possesses cognitive bias and gaps.MethodsThis study clarified the latest research progress and development trend in the grass-livestock interaction field by illuminating publication trend, cooperative network, keyword co-occurrence relationship, keyword clustering during 2000 to 2022 based on the Web of Science core database.ResultsThe results indicated that the annual number of publications in the grass-livestock interaction field showed a globally increasing with interdisciplinary and international collaboration, and the United States of America ranked firstly, followed by Brazil, England, Australia, China. Agricultural Research Service, the U.S. Department of Agricultures was the organization with the highest number of publications, and Rangeland Ecology & Management, Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, Grass and Forage Science were the top three journals. Furthermore, in terms of the temporal evolution, the research targeting the grass-livestock interaction mainly went through three stages: initial exploration period (2000–2011), to the period of rapid development (2012–2016) to transitional development period (2017–2022), and the notable existing keywords was Management, Livestock, Cattle, Vegetation, Growth, Soil. In terms of the structural composition, four broad divisions including mechanism of human activities, grassland resource monitoring and management, grassland livestock competition/adaptability, grassland land/soil research were identified. The results provide positive and objective insights into that grassland sustainability and grazing control through strengthening cross-disciplinary and cross-regional cooperation, and applying of standard methods based on evaluation system in the grass-livestock interaction field.DiscussionThe overall contribution of the work is provision of novel insight into the intellectual structure and temporal progression of grass-livestock interaction research at a macroscopic scale and the directions in which the field is headed currently.

Abstract Background Couples with balanced chromosome rearrangement (BCR) are at high risk of recurrent miscarriages or birth defects due to chromosomally abnormal embryos. This study aimed to provide real-world evidence of the euploidy rate of blastocysts from couples with BCR using preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) and to guide pretesting genetic counselling. Methods A continuous four-year PGT data from couples with BCR were retrospectively analyzed. Biopsied trophectoderm cells were amplified using whole genome amplification, and next-generation sequencing was performed to detect the chromosomal numerical and segmental aberrations. Clinical data and molecular genetic testing results were analyzed and compared among the subgroups. Results A total of 1571 PGT cycles with 5942 blastocysts were performed chromosomal numerical and segmental aberrations detection during the four years. Of them, 1034 PGT cycles with 4129 blastocysts for BCR couples were included; 68.96% (713/1034) PGT cycles had transferable euploid embryos. The total euploidy rate of blastocysts in couples carrying the BCR was 35.29% (1457/4129). Couples with complex BCR had euploid blastocyst rates similar to those of couples with non-complex BCR (46.15% vs. 35.18%, P > 0.05). Chromosome inversion had the highest chance of obtaining a euploid blastocyst (57.27%), followed by Robertsonian translocation (RobT) (46.06%), and the lowest in reciprocal translocation (RecT) (30.11%) (P 0.05). Background: Sleep deprivation (SD) can impair an individual's alertness, which is the basis of attention and the mechanism behind continuous information processing. However, research concerning the effects of total sleep deprivation (TSD) on alertness networks is inadequate. In this study, we investigate the cognitive neural mechanism of alertness processing after TSD. Methods: Twenty-four college students volunteered to participate in the study. The resting-state electroencephalogram (EEG) data were collected under two conditions (rested wakefulness [RW], and TSD). We employed isolated effective coherence (iCoh) analysis and functional independent component analysis (fICA) to explore the effects of TSD on participants' alertness network. Results: This study found the existence of two types of effective connectivity after TSD, as demonstrated by iCoh: from the left cuneus to the right middle frontal gyrus in the β3 and γ bands, and from the left angular gyrus to the left insula in the δ, θ, α, β1, β3, and γ bands. Furthermore, Pearson correlation analysis showed that increased effective connectivity between all the bands had a positive correlation with increases in the response time in the psychomotor vigilance task (PVT). Finally, fICA revealed that the neural oscillations of the cuneus in the α2 bands increased, and of the angular gyrus in the α and β1 bands decreased in TSD. Conclusions: TSD impairs the alertness function among individuals. Increased effective connectivity from the cuneus to the middle frontal gyrus may represent overloads on the alertness network, resulting in participants strengthening top-down control of the attention system. Moreover, enhanced effective connectivity from the angular gyrus to the insula may indicate a special perception strategy in which individuals focus on salient and crucial environmental information while ignoring inessential stimuli to reduce the heavy burden on the alertness network. In this study, a quantitative method based on fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labelled Hizikia fusiforme polyphenol–polysaccharide complex (HPC) and its purified fractions (PC1, PC4) was used, and its pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution were investigated in mice. The results showed that the FITC-labelled method had good linearity (R2 > 0.99), intra-day and inter-day precision (RSD, %) consistently lower than 15%, recovery (93.19–106.54%), and stability (RSD < 15%), which met the basic criteria for pharmacokinetic studies. The pharmacokinetic and tissue distribution results in mice after administration showed that all three sample groups could enter the blood circulation. and HPC-FITC had a longer half-life (T1/2: 26.92 ± 0.76 h) and mean retention time (MRT0–∞: 36.48 h) due to its larger molecular weight. The three groups of samples could be absorbed by the organism in a short time (0.5 h) mainly in the stomach and intestine; the samples could be detected in the urine after 2 h of administration indicating strong renal uptake, and faecal excretion reached its maximum at 12 h. The samples were also detected in the urine after 2 h of administration. This study provides some theoretical basis for the tissue distribution pattern of polyphenol–polysaccharide complex.

Anti-perovskite materials such as Li2(OH)Cl have garnered considerable interest as solid electrolytes due to their numerous advantages. However, the low ionic conductivity of the orthorhombic Li2(OH)Cl near room temperature presents a significant challenge for the application. In this study, we intricately modulate the −OH content in Li2(OH)Cl through a controlled heat treatment process. This method effectively increases the cubic phase content and lowers the phase transition temperature, thereby enhancing the ionic conductivity at 30 °C by more than an order of magnitude. Theoretical calculations illustrate that the removal of −OH content significantly reduces the barrier for phase transition, leading to substantial alterations in the Li-ion transport pathway and migration barrier. Furthermore, LiHClO-600 demonstrates exceptional resistance to lithium reduction and is compatible with lithium metal and LiFePO4, rendering it a viable solid electrolyte for batteries. Both experimental findings and theoretical calculations cohesively highlight the pivotal role of −OH content in driving phase transition and facilitating Li-ion transport in anti-perovskite solid electrolytes, paving the way for their potential utilization in all-solid-state batteries.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease in which immune cells and inflammatory cytokines are abnormally activated, leading to immunoregulatory dysfunction in the body and triggering systemic inflammatory responses. The interaction between CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) and heterotrimeric G-protein α-subunit Gαq (Gnαq) activates phospholipase Cβ (PLCβ), which influences the expression of downstream effectors and participates widely in the onset and development of various diseases, thus suggesting the potential involvement of these molecules in RA pathogenesis. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine whether the CXCR4-Gnαq-PLCβ signaling pathway participates in the onset and development of RA. Using a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rat model, we found that compared with the control (healthy) rat group, CIA rats exhibited highly time-dependent arthritis, with the maximum arthritis score occurring in week 3. In contrast to the splenic and joint tissue of control rats, CIA rats showed obvious hyperplasia in the lymphoid white pulp and main germination centers of the spleen, narrowing of joint cavities, and inflammatory cellular infiltration on articular surfaces. Abstract MRI scanner hardware, field strengths, and sequence parameters are major variables in diffusion studies of the spinal cord. Reliability between scanners is not well known, particularly for the thoracic cord. DTI data was collected for the entire cervical and thoracic spinal cord in thirty healthy adult subjects with different MR vendors and field strengths. DTI metrics were extracted and averaged for all slices within each vertebral level. Metrics were examined for variability and then harmonized using longitudinal ComBat (longComBat). Four scanners were used: Siemens 3 T Prisma, Siemens 1.5 T Avanto, Philips 3 T Ingenia, Philips 1.5 T Achieva. Average full cord diffusion values/standard deviation for all subjects and scanners were FA: 0.63, σ = 0.10, MD: 1.11, σ = 0.12 × 10−3 mm2/s, AD: 1.98, σ = 0.55 × 10−3 mm2/s, RD: 0.67, σ = 0.31 × 10−3 mm2/s. FA metrics averaged for all subjects by level were relatively consistent across scanners, but large variability was found in diffusivity measures. Coefficients of variation were lowest in the cervical region, and relatively lower for FA than diffusivity measures. Harmonized metrics showed greatly improved agreement between scanners. Variability in DTI of the spinal cord arises from scanner hardware differences, pulse sequence differences, physiological motion, and subject compliance. The use of longComBat resulted in large improvement in agreement of all DTI metrics between scanners. This study shows the importance of harmonization of diffusion data in the spinal cord and potential for longitudinal and multisite clinical research and clinical trials.

Abstract Objective This retrospective study analyzed breathing patterns and age subgroups effect on cortical bone quality of the mandible in growing subjects, aiming to explore the application value of facial skeletal pattern combined with cortical bone density detection in early screening diagnosis of mouth breathing. Methods One hundred twenty-six participants were divided into four groups: mouth breathing group (7–9, 10–12 years old) and nasal breathing group (7–9, 10–12 years old). The mandibular anterior, middle, and posterior cortical bone mineral density (CBMD), cortical bone width (MCW), ANB, and FMA values were measured. Independent T-test and Mann–Whitney U test were used to compare the measured values. Binary logistic regression was employed to analyze the correlation between measured variables and the children’s breathing patterns. ROC analysis was used to determine the ability of the cortical bone density measurements in early screening diagnosis of MB. Results Mouth breathing had a negative impact on CBMD and MCW of the pre-mandibular (Pog) in subjects aged 7–9 years and also impacted the development of (Pog) and submandibular (Me) sites in subjects aged 10–12 years. Older children in the nasal breathing group have higher CBMD, MCW, and SNB values and lower FMA values. Single-factor and multiple-factor logistic binary regression analysis showed that FMA, MSPogCBMD, MSPogMCW, and ANB are correlated factors for children at risk of mouth breathing. Conclusion Mouth breathing pattern is closely associated with decreased mandibular CBMD and MCW values in children aged 7–12, where the anterior (Pog) and inferior (Me) sites of anterior mandible are more significantly affected. Furthermore, in combination with facial skeletal pattern, it provides a basis for the early warning diagnosis of mouth breathing.

Abstract The autosomal dominant form of polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common hereditary disease that causes late-onset renal cyst development and end-stage renal disease. Preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic disease (PGT-M) has emerged as an effective strategy to prevent pathogenic mutation transmission rely on SNP linkage analysis between pedigree members. Yet, it remains challenging to establish reliable PGT-M methods for ADPKD cases or other monogenic diseases with de novo mutations or without a family history. Here we reported the application of long-read sequencing for direct haplotyping in a female patient with de novo PKD1 c.11,526 G > C mutation and successfully established the high-risk haplotype. Together with targeted short-read sequencing of SNPs for the couple and embryos, the carrier status for embryos was identified. A healthy baby was born without the PKD1 pathogenic mutation. Our PGT-M strategy based on long-read sequencing for direct haplotyping combined with targeted SNP haplotype can be widely applied to other monogenic disease carriers with de novo mutation.

This study aimed to assess the suitability of fermented food interventions to replenish damaged gut microbiota. Metagenomic assessment of published sequencing data found that fermented food interventions led to a significant increase in the gut antibiotic resistome in healthy human subjects. Antibiotic resistome and viable antibiotic-resistant (AR) bacteria were further highly prevalent in retail kimchi and artisan cheeses by metagenomic and culture analyses. Representative AR pathogens of importance in nosocomial infections, such as Klebsiella pneumoniae, Serratia marcescens, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), as well as commensals and lactic acid bacteria, were characterized; some exhibited an extremely high minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against antibiotics of clinical significance. Exposing fermented food microbiota to representative antibiotics further led to a boost of the corresponding antibiotic and multidrug-resistance gene pools, as well as disturbed microbiota, including the rise of previously undetectable pathogens. These results revealed an underestimated public health risk associated with fermented food intervention at the current stage, particularly for susceptible populations with compromised gut integrity and immune functions seeking gut microbiota rescue. The findings call for productive intervention of foodborne AR via technology innovation and strategic movements to mitigate unnecessary, massive damages to the host gut microbiota due to orally administered or biliary excreted antibiotics.

The current thermal balance of permafrost in northeastern China has been upset by human engineering construction disturbances and global warming. This has resulted in a rise in ground temperature and a fall in the permafrost table, which has a major impact on the stability, longevity, and operational safety of highway subgrades. To solve the issues above, the ground temperature monitoring data at K60+230 of the Shiwei–Labudalin highway were analyzed, and the numerical simulation of the temperature field change over 15 years was carried out for the ordinary subgrade as well as for sections of block-stone material subgrade with 1 m of straight-filled and different thicknesses of replacement fill (1 m, 2 m, 3 m, 4 m) by applying Comsol Multiphysis software. The results show that the temperature field of the subgrade exhibits significant asymmetry. There are variations in the rate of decline at different sites during the course of the 15 years when compared to where the permafrost table was located at the start of the study. Still, the rate of decline of the permafrost table is decreasing yearly. The straight-filled 1 m block-stone subgrade has a permafrost table 0.77 m higher in the bottom portion of its top surface than the ordinary subgrade. The replacement 1 m, 2 m, 3 m, and 4 m block-stone subgrade has a permafrost table in the lower portion of the top surface that is 1.05 m, 2.12 m, 3.32 m, and 4.75 m higher than the ordinary subgrade. The replacement block-stone subgrades, as opposed to ordinary subgrades, can strengthen the foundation, raise the permafrost table, and effectively reduce the impact of the upper boundary temperature on the lower permafrost. They can also increase the stability of permafrost subgrades. Of them, the block-stone filling with a thickness of 4 m and a particle size of 6–8 cm had the best impact.

The volatile compounds in strawberries play a significant role in the formation of strawberry aroma. However, these compounds undergo continual changes during storage, resulting in a decline in quality. In this study, a total of 67 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were identified in strawberries through quantitative analysis. At the end of the storage period, the VOC content in the ultrasonic group was 119.02 µg/kg higher than that in the control group. The results demonstrated that the ultrasonic treatment increased the contents of terpenes and esters at the end of storage. Among these, linalool increased from 67.09 to 91.41 µg/kg, while ethyl cinnamate increased from 92.22 to 106.79 µg/kg. Additionally, the expression of the key metabolic genes closely related to these substances was significantly up-regulated. The expression of the FaNES gene, related to terpene metabolism, was up-regulated by 2.8 times in the second day, while the expression of the FaAAT gene, related to ester metabolism, was up-regulated by 1.5 times. In summary, this study provides a theoretical basis for exploring the mechanism of ultrasonic effect on strawberry flavor and quality after harvest.

Hydrogels are widely used as excellent drug carriers in the field of biomedicine. However, their application in medicine is limited by their poor mechanical properties and softness. To improve the mechanical properties of hydrogels, a novel triple-network amphiphilic hydrogel with three overlapping crosslinking methods using a one-pot free-radical polymerization was synthesized in this study. Temperature-sensitive and pH-sensitive monomers were incorporated into the hydrogel to confer stimulus responsiveness, making the hydrogel stimuli-responsive. The successful synthesis of the hydrogel was confirmed using techniques, such as proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). In order to compare and analyze the properties of physically crosslinked hydrogels, physically–chemically double-crosslinked hydrogels, and physically–chemically clicked triple-crosslinked hydrogels, various tests were conducted on the gels’ morphology, swelling behavior, thermal stability, mechanical properties, and drug loading capacity. The results indicate that the triple-crosslinked hydrogel maintains low swelling, high mechanical strength, and good thermal stability while not significantly compromising its drug delivery capability.

This study introduces a novel organosilicon-modified polysaccharide (Si-AP) synthesized via grafting and comprehensively evaluates its performance in water-based drilling fluids (WBDFs). The molecular structure of Si-AP was characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and 1H-NMR experiments. Thermalgravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed the good thermal stability of Si-AP up to 235 °C. Si-AP significantly improves the rheological properties and fluid loss performance of WBDFs. With increasing Si-AP concentration, system viscosity increases, API filtration rate decreases, clay expansion is inhibited, and drilling cuttings hydration dispersion is suppressed, especially under high-temperature conditions. Additionally, mechanistic analysis indicates that the introduction of siloxane groups can effectively inhibit the thermal degradation of AP chains and enhance their high-temperature resistance. Si-AP can form a lubricating film by adsorbing on the surface of clay particles, improving mud cake quality, reducing the friction coefficient, and significantly enhancing the lubricating performance of WBDFs. Overall, Si-AP exhibits a higher temperature-resistance limit compared to AP and more effectively optimizes the lubrication, inhibition, and control of the filtration rate of WBDFs under high-temperature conditions. While meeting the requirements of drilling fluid systems under high temperatures, Si-AP also addresses environmental concerns and holds promise as an efficient solution for the exploitation of deep-seated oil and gas resources.

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) N-glycosylation plays a crucial role in the development of inflammatory diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of IgG for gastrointestinal (GI) cancer subtypes. A total of 749 GI cancer patients were enrolled from the Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, including esophageal cancer (EC), gastric cancer (GC), colorectal cancer (CRC), and pancreatic cancer (PC) patients. Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography using ultra-performance liquid chromatography (HILIC-UPLC) was employed to analyze the composition of the plasma IgG N-glycome. The levels of circulating inflammatory cytokines were detected by means of a Bio-Plex Pro Human Th17 Cytokine Assay. Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) was used to explore the correlation between IgG N-glycosylation patterns and inflammatory cytokines. A Lasso algorithm, accompanied by a logistic regression model, was used to develop a glycan-based model for differentiating GI cancer patients from healthy individuals. The levels of sialylation and galactosylation were significantly decreased among EC, GC, CRC, and PC patients, whereas the abundance of glycans with bisecting N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) was increased in GI cancer patients in comparison with the healthy controls. Moreover, only PC patients had a decreased level of fucosylation. The levels of interleukin 1β (IL-1β), IL-31, and soluble CD40 ligand (sCD40L) were significantly higher in GI cancer patients than in the controls. In addition, the composition of IgG N-glycans was correlated with that of inflammatory cytokines (r = 0.556). The glycan-based models for diagnosing GI cancers exhibited an excellent performance, with areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) of 0.972 for EC, 0.871 for GC, 0.867 for CRC, and 0.907 for PC. Our findings demonstrate that IgG N-glycosylation plays an important role in modulating the pathogenesis of GI cancers. Serological IgG N-glycosylation is thus a potential candidate for noninvasively assisting in the clinical diagnosis of GI cancer subtypes.

AimsAutism is a multifaceted developmental disorder of the nervous system, that necessitates novel therapeutic approaches beyond traditional medications and psychosomatic therapy, such as appropriate sensory integration training. This systematic mapping review aims to synthesize existing knowledge on enriching environmental interventions as an alternative avenue for improving autism, guiding future research and practice.MethodA comprehensive search using the terms ASD and Enriched Environment was conducted across PubMed, EMBASE, ISI, Cochrane, and OVID databases. Most of the literature included in this review was derived from animal model experiments, with a particular focus on assessing the effect of EE on autism-like behavior, along with related pathways and molecular mechanisms. Following extensive group discussion and screening, a total of 19 studies were included for analysis.ResultsEnriched environmental interventions exhibited the potential to induce both behavioral and biochemical changes, ameliorating autism-like behaviors in animal models. These improvements were attributed to the targeting of BDNF-related pathways, enhanced neurogenesis, and the regulation of glial inflammation.ConclusionThis paper underscores the positive impact of enriched environmental interventions on autism through a review of existing literature. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the underlying brain mechanisms associated with this intervention.

In the double-cone ignition scheme of inertial confinement fusion, the head-on collision of two compressed fuel jets from the cone-tips forms an isochoric plasma, which is then heated suddenly by a MeV relativistic electron beam produced by ultra-intense picosecond laser pulses. This fast-heating process was studied experimentally at the Shenguang II upgrade laser facility. By observing temporal-resolved X-ray emission and the spatial-resolved X-ray spectrum, the colliding process and heating process are carefully studied. The colliding plasma was imaged to have dimensions of approximately 86 μm in the implosion direction and approximately 120 μm in the heating direction. By comparing the simulated plasma X-ray spectrum with experimental data, the electron temperature of the heated plasma was found to rapidly increase to 600 ± 50 eV, almost doubling the temperature achieved before the heating laser incidence.

Intense terahertz (THz) radiation in free space has immense potential for regulating material state, accelerating electrons, producing biological effects, and so on. However, the high cost and challenges involved in constructing strong-field THz sources have limited their developments, making it difficult for the potential applications of strong-field THz radiation to be widely adopted. Spintronic THz emitters (STEs) with numerous merits such as high efficiency, ultrabroadband, ease of integration, and low cost have become ubiquitous, but the majority of these emitters require stable operation in the presence of external magnets, limiting their applications, particularly in generating strong fields that necessitate large-sized samples. Here, we demonstrate the feasibility of generating strong-field THz radiation in 4-inch antiferromagnetic material–ferromagnetic metal (IrMn3 [2 nm]/Co20Fe60B20 [2 nm]/W [2 nm]) without external magnetic field driving. Under the excitation of a Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser amplifier with a 35-fs pulse duration and a 1-kHz repetition rate, we obtain strong-field THz radiation from our STEs with a pulse duration of ~110 fs, and a spectrum covering up to ~10 THz. Further scaling up the pump laser energy up to 55 mJ with a pulse duration of ~20 fs and a repetition rate of 100 Hz provided by the Synergetic Extreme Condition User Facility, the radiated THz electric field strength from the external-magnetic-free 4-inch STEs can exceed 242 kV/cm with a pulse duration of ~230 fs, a spectrum covering up to ~14 THz, and a single pulse energy of 8.6 nJ measured by a calibrated pyroelectric detector. Our demonstrated external-magnetic-field-free high-field STEs have some unique applications such as producing sub-cycle ultrashort strong THz fields in huge size emitters under the excitation of high-energy light sources, accelerating the development of THz science and applications.

Double-cone ignition [Zhang et al., Phil. Trans. R. Soc. A 378, 20200015 (2020)] was proposed recently as a novel path for direct-drive inertial confinement fusion using high-power lasers. In this scheme, plasma jets with both high density and high velocity are required for collisions. Here we report preliminary experimental results obtained at the Shenguang-II upgrade laser facility, employing a CHCl shell in a gold cone irradiated with a two-ramp laser pulse. The CHCl shell was pre-compressed by the first laser ramp to a density of 3.75 g/cm3 along the isentropic path. Subsequently, the target was further compressed and accelerated by the second laser ramp in the cone. According to the simulations, the plasma jet reached a density of up to 15 g/cm3, while measurements indicated a velocity of 126.8 ± 17.1 km/s. The good agreements between experimental data and simulations are documented.

Objective: The present study aimed to assess the bond strength and durability of six bonding agents concerning their application to metal or ceramic brackets and zirconia.Materials and Methods: Six resin cement bonding agents (XT, XTS, RSBU, RGBU, SBPM, and GMP) were chosen for this investigation. Specimens were either stored in distilled water at 37°C for 24 h or subjected to 5,000 thermocycles before conducting a Shear Bond Strength (SBS) test. Statistical analysis of the SBS data was performed using three-way ANOVA and Games-Howell tests (α = 0.05). The Adhesive Remnant Index was examined, and the debonding surface details on brackets and zirconia were observed.Results: For metal brackets, all groups demonstrated clinically acceptable bond strength, irrespective of storage conditions, except for the XT group. Regarding ceramic brackets, all groups displayed acceptable bond strength after 24 h of water storage. However, following thermocycling, a significant decrease in SBS was noted across all groups (p < 0.05), with SBPM exhibiting a higher bond strength. Three-way ANOVA analysis indicated that SBS values were notably influenced by each factor, and an interaction among the three independent variables was observed (p = 0.000).Conclusion: The reliable bond strength between ceramic brackets and zirconia was significantly lower after thermocycling compared to that of metal brackets and zirconia. SBPM exhibited consistent and robust bond strength between ceramic/metal brackets and zirconia across various storage conditions. Furthermore, the HEMA-free adhesive demonstrated a potentially more consistent bonding performance compared to the HEMA-containing adhesive employed in this study.

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) are important sources of aerosol-derived dissolved organic matter (ADOM) which may threaten human health via the respiratory system. In this study, aerosols were sampled from a typical WWTP to explore the chemical molecular diversity, molecular ecological network, and potential toxicities of the ADOM in the aerosols. The high fluorescence index (>1.9) and biological index (0.66–1.17) indicated the strong autogenous microbial source characteristics of the ADOM in the WWTP. DOM and microbes in the wastewater were aerosolized due to strong agitation and bubbling in the treatment processes, and contributed to 74 % and 75 %, respectively, of the ADOM and microbes in the aerosols. The ADOM was mainly composed of CHO and CHOS accounting for 35 % and 29 % of the total number of molecules, respectively, with lignin-like (69 %) as the major constituent. 49 % of the ADOM transformations were thermodynamically limited, and intragroup transformations were easier than intergroup transformations. Bacteria in the aerosols involved in ADOM transformations exhibited both cooperative and divergent behaviors and tended to transform carbohydrate-like and amino sugar/protein-like into recalcitrant lignin-like. The microbial compositions were affected by atmosphere temperature and humidity indirectly by modulating the properties of ADOM. Tannin-like, lignin-like, and unsaturated hydrocarbon-like molecules in the ADOM were primary toxicity contributors, facilitating the expression of inflammatory factors IL-β (2.2–5.4 folds), TNF-α (3.5–7.0 folds), and IL-6 (3.5–11.2 folds), respectively.

The velocity interferometer system for any reflector (VISAR) coupled with a streaked optical pyrometer (SOP) system is used as a diagnostic tool in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experiments involving equations of state and shock timing. To validate the process of adiabatically compressing the fuel shell through precise tuning of shocks in experimental campaigns for the double-cone ignition (DCI) scheme of ICF, a compact line-imaging VISAR with an SOP system is designed and implemented at the Shenguang-II upgrade laser facility. The temporal and spatial resolutions of the system are better than 30 ps and 7 μm, respectively. An illumination lens is used to adjust the lighting spot size matching with the target size. A polarization beam splitter and λ/4 waveplate are used to increase the transmission efficiency of our system. The VISAR and SOP work at 660 and 450 nm, respectively, to differentiate the signals from the scattered lights of the drive lasers. The VISAR can measure the shock velocity. At the same time, the SOP system can give the shock timing and relative strength. This system has been used in different DCI campaigns, where the generation and propagation processes of multi-shock are carefully diagnosed.

Abstract Metabolic reprogramming is one of the main characteristics of cancer cells and plays pivotal role in the proliferation and survival of cancer cells. Amino acid is one of the key nutrients for cancer cells and many studies have focused on the regulation of amino acid metabolism, including the genetic alteration, epigenetic modification, transcription, translation and post-translational modification of key enzymes in amino acid metabolism. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are composed of a heterogeneous group of RNAs with transcripts of more than 200 nucleotides in length. LncRNAs can bind to biological molecules such as DNA, RNA and protein, regulating the transcription, translation and post-translational modification of target genes. Now, the functions of lncRNAs in cancer metabolism have aroused great research interest and significant progress has been made. This review focuses on how lncRNAs participate in the reprogramming of amino acid metabolism in cancer cells, especially glutamine, serine, arginine, aspartate, cysteine metabolism. This will help us to better understand the regulatory mechanism of cancer metabolic reprogramming and provide new ideas for the development of anti-cancer drugs. Video Abstract

Resistive random access memory (RRAM) holds great promise for in-memory computing, which is considered the most promising strategy for solving the von Neumann bottleneck. However, there are still significant problems in its application due to the non-uniform performance of RRAM devices. In this work, a bilayer dielectric layer memristor was designed based on the difference in the Gibbs free energy of the oxide. We fabricated Au/Ta2O5/HfO2/Ta/Pt (S3) devices with excellent uniformity. Compared with Au/HfO2/Pt (S1) and Au/Ta2O5/Pt (S2) devices, the S3 device has a low reset voltage fluctuation of 2.44%, and the resistive coefficients of variation are 13.12% and 3.84% in HRS and LRS, respectively, over 200 cycles. Otherwise, the bilayer device has better linearity and more conductance states in multi-state regulation. At the same time, we analyze the physical mechanism of the bilayer device and provide a physical model of ion migration. This work provides a new idea for designing and fabricating resistive devices with stable performance.

IntroductionThe segmentation of the carotid vessel wall using black-blood magnetic resonance images was a crucial step in the diagnosis of atherosclerosis. The objective was to accurately isolate the region between the artery lumen and outer wall. Although supervised learning methods achieved remarkable accuracy in vessel segmentation, their effectiveness remained limited due to their reliance on extensive labeled data and human intervention. Furthermore, when confronted with three-dimensional datasets featuring insufficient and discontinuous label data, these learning-based approaches could lose their efficacy. In this paper, we proposed a novel Joint 2D–3D Cross-Pseudo Supervision (JCPS) method for accurate carotid vessel wall segmentation.MethodsIn this study, a vascular center-of-gravity positioning module was developed to automatically estimate the region of blood vessels. To achieve accurate segmentation, we proposed a joint 2D–3D semi-supervised network to model the three-dimensional continuity of vascular structure. In addition, a novel loss function tailored for vessel segmentation was introduced, consisting of four components: supervision loss, cross-pseudo supervision loss, pseudo label supervision loss, and continuous supervision loss, all aimed at ensuring the accuracy and continuity of the vessel structure. In what followed, we also built up a user-friendly Graphical User Interface based on our JCPS method for end-users.ResultsOur proposed JCPS method was evaluated using the Carotid Artery Vessel Wall Segmentation Challenge dataset to assess its performance. The experimental results clearly indicated that our approach surpassed the top 10 methods on the leaderboard, resulting in a significant enhancement in segmentation accuracy. Specifically, we achieved an average Dice similarity coefficient increase from 0.775 to 0.806 and an average quantitative score improvement from 0.837 to 0.850, demonstrating the effectiveness of our proposed JCPS method for carotid artery vessel wall segmentation.ConclusionThe experimental results suggested that the JCPS method had a high level of generalization performance by producing pseudo labels that were comparable with software annotations for data-imbalanced segmentation tasks.

BackgroundMany studies have investigated the effect of total sleep deprivation (TSD) on resting-state functional networks, especially the default mode network (DMN) and sensorimotor network (SMN), using functional connectivity. While it is known that the activities of these networks differ based on eye state, it remains unclear how TSD affects them in different eye states. Therefore, we aimed to examine the effect of TSD on DMN and SMN in different eye states using effective functional connectivity via isolated effective coherence (iCoh) in exact low-resolution brain electromagnetic tomography (eLORETA).MethodsResting-state electroencephalogram (EEG) signals were collected from 24 male college students, and each participant completed a psychomotor vigilance task (PVT) while behavioral data were acquired. Each participant underwent 36-h TSD, and the data were acquired in two sleep-deprivation times (rested wakefulness, RW: 0 h; and TSD: 36 h) and two eye states (eyes closed, EC; and eyes open, EO). Changes in neural oscillations and effective connectivity were compared based on paired t-test.ResultsThe behavioral results showed that PVT reaction time was significantly longer in TSD compared with that of RW. The EEG results showed that in the EO state, the activity of high-frequency bands in the DMN and SMN were enhanced compared to those of the EC state. Furthermore, when compared with the DMN and SMN of RW, in TSD, the activity of DMN was decreased, and SMN was increased. Moreover, the changed effective connectivity in the DMN and SMN after TSD was positively correlated with an increased PVT reaction time. In addition, the effective connectivity in the different network (EO-EC) of the SMN was reduced in the β band after TSD compared with that of RW.ConclusionThese findings indicate that TSD impairs alertness and sensory information input in the SMN to a greater extent in an EO than in an EC state.

Abstract During interphase, the newly duplicated pairs of centrosomes are held together by a centrosome linker, and the centrosome separation needs the disruption of this linker to induce the duplicated centrosomes separating into two distinct microtubule organization centers. The mechanism of regulating centrosome separation is however poorly understood. Here, we demonstrated that the phosphorylation of PHF5A at Y36 by the TrkA-ERK1/2-ABL1 cascade plays a critical role in regulating centrosome separation. PHF5A, a well-characterized spliceosome component, is enriched in the centrosome. The pY36-PHF5A promotes the interaction between CEP250 and Nek2A in a spliceosomal-independent manner, which leads to premature centrosome separation. Furthermore, the unmatured centrosome remodels the microtubule and subsequently regulates cell proliferation and migration. Importantly, we found that the phosphorylation cascade of TrkA-ERK1/2-ABL1-PHF5A is hyper-regulated in medulloblastoma. The inhibition of this cascade can induce senescence and restrict the proliferation of medulloblastoma. Our findings on this phosphorylation cascade in regulating centrosome separation could provide a series of potential targets for restricting the progress of medulloblastoma.

In recent years, with the widespread popularity of the Internet, social media has become an indispensable part of people’s lives. People regard online social media as an essential tool for interaction and communication. Due to the convenience of data acquisition from social media, mental health research on social media has received a lot of attention. The early detection of psychological disorder based on social media can help prevent further deterioration in at-risk people. In this paper, depression detection is performed based on non-verbal (acoustics and visual) behaviors of vlog. We propose a time-aware attention-based multimodal fusion depression detection network (TAMFN) to mine and fuse the multimodal features fully. The TAMFN model is constructed by a temporal convolutional network with the global information (GTCN), an intermodal feature extraction (IFE) module, and a time-aware attention multimodal fusion (TAMF) module. The GTCN model captures more temporal behavior information by combining local and global temporal information. The IFE module extracts the early interaction information between modalities to enrich the feature representation. The TAMF module guides the multimodal feature fusion by mining the temporal importance between different modalities. Our experiments are carried out on D-Vlog dataset, and the comparative experimental results report that our proposed TAMFN outperforms all benchmark models, indicating the effectiveness of the proposed TAMFN model.

Most greenhouse gases come from biological activities and industry which will lead to global warming and show an impact on human life. With the need of green transformation of the global economic structure and seeking for higher quality of human life, the detection and management of greenhouse gases, as well as most hazardous gases in the environment, are increasingly demanding. Applications in different fields require sensors that can detect gas volume fractions with magnitudes from 10–9 to 10–4. Greenhouse gas detection plays an important role both in the agriculture and industry field. In this review, we first summarize the mechanism of several common gas detectors used currently. Then, the advantages of nanostructured gas sensors are discussed. Finally, the applications of infrared gas sensors based on nanophotonic devices are described in detail. This review has been an outlook on the future development of infrared gas sensors based on nanophotonic devices.
