Search

Surrogate reaction method is an important approach to overcome the difficulties meet in the direct measurement of neutron induced nuclear reaction. The current existing surrogate reactions generally employ the peripheral reactions such as inelastic excitation and transfer reaction where the involved angular momenta are much larger than the neutron capture reaction, which causes a difficulty in theoretical correction of spin of compound nucleus. We proposed to use capture reaction of light charged particle as the surrogate reaction, thus the spin distributions of compound nucleus in two reactions are quite similar and therefore the spin correction is not strongly desired. Based on this idea, the 239Pu(n, f) and (n, 2n) cross sections were successfully extracted by using 236U(α,, f) and (α, 2n) reactions as the surrogate reactions. The well coincidence of the present results with the data of ENDFB7 within the error bars shows the reliability of the proposed surrogate capture reaction method.

Fusion evaporation residues and fission fragments have been measured, respectively, at energies around the Coulomb barrier for the 28Si+174Yb and 32S+170Er systems forming the same compound nucleus 202Po. The excitation function of fusion evaporation, fission as well as capture reactions were deduced. Coupled-channels analyses reveal that couplings to the deformations of targets and the two-phonon states of projectiles contribute much to the enhancement of capture cross sections at sub-barrier energies. The mass and total kinetic energy of fission fragments were deduced by the time-difference method assuming full momentum transfer in a two-body kinematics. The mass-energy and mass-angle distributions were obtained and no obvious quasi-fission components were observed in this bombarding energy range. Further, mass distributions of fission fragments were fitted to extract their widths. Results show that the mass widths decrease monotonically with decreasing energy, but might start to increase when Ec.m./VB < 0.95 for both systems.

The g-factors of the rotational states of the positive parity yrast band from spin I=10 to spin I=16 in even-even nucleus Cd have been measured by the transient-magnetic-field ion implantation perturbed angular distribution method. The high spin states of Cd were populated by the fusion evaporation reaction Ge (Cl, 1p4n) Cd. The measured g-factors increase gradually as the spin increases from 10 to 16 due to the g neutron alignment. The g neutrons are fully aligned at spin I=16. This state is the band head state of the anti-magnetic rotational band in Cd. The measured g-factor of this state is -0.09. The present results support that this band head state may have the configuration $\pi (g_{9/2})^{-2}_{J=0}\otimes \nu (h_{11/2})^{2}_{J=10}\nu (g_{7/2})^{2}_{J=6}$. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two-proton emissions from the excited states of Ne, P and S were investigated experimentally by the radioactive beams bombarding on the Au target via the Coulomb excitation. The complete-kinematics measurements were actualized by the stacks of silicon-strip detectors and CsI+PIN array detectors. The invariant mass of final systems as well as the relative momentum, opening angle, and relative energy of the two emitted protons was reconstructed under the framework of relativistic kinematics. Visible proton-proton correlations were observed in these systems. The mechanisms of two-proton emission were analyzed in a simple schematic model, in which the extreme decay modes like He cluster emission, three-body phase-space decay, and two-body sequential decay were taken into account. With the help of Monte-Carlo simulations, the two protons emitted from the 6.15 MeV excited state of Ne and the excited states in the energy region of 9.6-10.4 MeV of S, respectively, exhibited prominent features of He cluster decay while for the other cases, no obvious diproton emissions were observed. Abstract: The search for dark matter (DM) is a hot field nowadays, a number of innovative techniques have emerged. The superheated droplet technique is relatively mature; however, it is recently revitalized in a number of frontier fields including the search for DM. In this work, the acoustic response of Superheated Droplet Detectors (SDDs) to neutrons was studied by using a 252Cf neutron source, SDDs developed by the China Institute of Atomic Energy, a sound sensor, a sound card and a PC. Sound signals were filtered. The characteristics of FFT spectra, power spectra and time constants were used to determine the authenticity of the bubbles analyzed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

We report the weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark matter search results using the first physics-run data of the PandaX-II 500 kg liquid xenon dual-phase time-projection chamber, operating at the China JinPing underground laboratory. No dark matter candidate is identified above background. In combination with the data set during the commissioning run, with a total exposure of 3.3×10^{4}  kg day, the most stringent limit to the spin-independent interaction between the ordinary and WIMP dark matter is set for a range of dark matter mass between 5 and 1000  GeV/c^{2}. The best upper limit on the scattering cross section is found 2.5×10^{-46}  cm^{2} for the WIMP mass 40  GeV/c^{2} at 90% confidence level.
