Crops often face light intensity fluctuations in natural settings. Intercropping is widely used to improve crop yield and resource utilization worldwide, but crops suffer from high-frequency and high-intensity light fluctuations due to mutual crop influence. Soybean is an important legume crop and is often intercropped with other crops, but little is known about soybean's response to light fluctuation environments. Herein, three fluctuation frequencies (1, 10, and 20 min/cycle) were used to analyze soybean photosynthesis responses by measuring leaf growth, chlorophyll content, gas exchange, and electron transfer. Our data revealed that faster fluctuation frequencies led to the stronger suppression of soybean morphology and photosynthesis, with significant reductions of 31.31% and 21.58%, respectively. Damage to photosystems II (PSII) and I (PSI) also intensified, with significant decreases of 18.52% and 18.38% in their effective quantum yields Y(II) and Y(I). Additionally, increased fluctuation frequency exacerbated the consumption of the plastoquinone pool and linear electron flow but enhanced the cyclic electron flow across the thylakoid membrane and, thus, increased heat dissipation in PSII. Our findings indicate that an increased fluctuation frequency inflicted more severe damage on the soybean photosynthesis system. Lake ice melting and breakup form a fast, nonlinear process with important mechanical, chemical, and biological consequences. The process is difficult to study in the field due to safety issues, and therefore only little is known about its details. In the present work, the field data were collected on foot, by hydrocopter, and by boat for a full time series of the evolution of ice thickness, structure, and geochemistry through the melting period. The observations were made in lake Pääjärvi in 2018 (pilot study) and 2022. In 2022, the maximum thickness of ice was 55 cm with 60 % snow ice, and in 40 d the ice melted by 33 cm from the surface and 22 cm from the bottom while the porosity increased from less than 5 % to 40 %–50 % at breakup. In 2018, the snow-ice layer was thin, and bottom and internal melting dominated the ice decay. The mean melting rates were 1.31 cm d -1 in 2022 and 1.55 cm d -1 in 2018. In 2022 the electrical conductivity (EC) of ice was 11.4 ± 5.79 µ S cm -1 , which is 1 order of magnitude lower than in the lake water, and ice pH was 6.44 ± 0.28, which is lower by 0.4 than in water. The pH and EC of ice and water decreased during the ice decay except for slight increases in ice due to flushing by lake water. Chlorophyll a was less than 0.5 µ g L -1 in porous ice, approximately one-third of that in the lake water. The results are important for understanding the process of ice decay with consequences for lake ecology, further development of numerical lake ice models, and modeling the safety of ice cover and ice loads. Chemical contaminants in food generally include natural toxins (mycotoxins, animal toxins, and phytotoxins), pesticides, veterinary drugs, environmental pollutants, heavy metals, and illegal additives. Developing a low‐cost, simple, and rapid detection technology for harmful substances in food is urgently needed. Analytical methods based on different advanced materials have been developed into rapid detection methods for food samples. In particular, photonic crystal (PC) materials have a unique surface periodic structure, structural color, a large surface area, easy integration with photoelectronic and magnetic devices which have great advantages in the development of rapid, low‐cost, and highly sensitive analytical methods. This review focuses on the PC materials in the view of their fabrication processes, functionalized recognition components for the specific recognition of hazardous substances, and applications in the separation, enrichment, and detection of chemical hazards in real samples. Suspension array based on three‐dimensional PC microspheres by droplet‐based microfluidic assembly is a great promising and powerful platform for food safety detection fields. For the PCs selective analysis, biological antibodies, aptamers, and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) could be modified for specific recognition of target substances, particularly MIPs because of their low‐cost and easy mass production. Based on these functional PCs, various toxic and hazardous substances can be selectively enriched or recognized in real samples and further quantified in combination of liquid chromatography method or optical detection methods including fluorescence, chemiluminescence, and Raman spectroscopy. Background. Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is a biomarker for large-caliber axonal degeneration in the subcortex. The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between plasma neurofilament light chain (pNfL) and cognitive impairment following a posterior circulation stroke. Methods. Patients over the age of 18 with their first-ever acute ischemic stroke (AIS) of the posterior cerebral circulation within 24 h of symptom onset were included from July 1, 2017, to December 31, 2019. Blood samples were collected within 48 h after the stroke. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) (MOCA < 26) was adopted to define poststroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) 90 days after stroke onset. Results. A total of 264 patients were analyzed in this research 101 (38.30%) patients were clinically diagnosed with PSCI. The PNfL concentration was significantly higher in the PSCI group compared with the non-PSCI group (p < 0.001). The pNfL concentration (OR 1.044; p < 0.001) remained to be a significant predictor for PSCI after a multivariable logistic regression analysis, even after adjusting for factors including age, sex, education background (OR 1.044; p < 0.001), baseline NIHSS, infarct volume, and TOAST classification (OR 1.035; p < 0.001). The diagnostic efficacy of pNfL concentration for PSCI was then explored with a ROC analysis. The optimum pNfL concentration threshold was 38.12 pg/ml, with a sensitivity of 78.20%, a specificity of 66.9%, and an AUC of 0.782 (p < 0.001). Conclusion. This research showed that pNfL concentration, independent of established conventional risk factors, could predict the cognitive impairment in 90 days following posterior circulation stroke. Meteorological and hydrological changes have an important influence on the ice formation mechanism and the detailed structure of ice materials in cold reservoirs, and directly determine the mechanical properties of ice materials. Based on long-term meteorological and hydrological monitoring data, and detailed structural evolution analysis of ice materials, combined with fracture mechanics and energy methods, a comprehensive fracture model of ice materials in cold regions is established. At the same time, the fracture mechanics test results and simulation results of ice materials are compared, and the model is finally optimized accurately to provide theoretical support for the study of the mechanical mechanism of ice materials. Sleep deprivation (SD) induces systemic inflammation that promotes neuronal pyroptosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of an antioxidant modafinil on neuronal pyroptosis and cognitive decline following SD. Using a mouse model of SD, we found that modafinil improved learning and memory, reduced proinflammatory factor (IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6) production, and increased the expression of anti-inflammatory factors (IL-10). Modafinil treatment attenuated inflammasome activity and reduced neuronal pyroptosis involving the NLRP3/NLRP1/NLRC4-caspase-1-IL-1β pathway. In addition, modafinil induced an upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and synaptic activity. These results suggest that modafinil reduces neuronal pyroptosis and cognitive decline following SD. In this study, a test technique that enables continuous control of the sample stress state from freezing to testing is proposed to investigate the influence of freezing pressure on the mechanical properties of ice under uniaxial compression. In this method, the water is frozen into the standard cylindrical ice specimen under high hydraulic pressure in a triaxial pressure chamber, and then, the temperature field and stress field of the ice specimens are adjusted to the initial state of the test; finally, an in situ mechanical test is conducted in the triaxial chamber. The uniaxial compression test of ice specimens with temperature of −20°C and freezing pressure of 0.5–30 MPa is performed in the strain rate range of 5 × 10−5−1.5 × 10−6 s−1. The results show that, as the freezing pressure increases, the ductile-to-brittle transition zone of the ice specimen during failure moves to the low strain rate range, and the failure mode of the specimen changes from shear failure to splitting failure. Further, the brittleness index of the ice specimen first increases, then decreases, and then again increases with the increase in freezing pressure. The brittleness index reaches the maximum (minimum) when the freezing pressure is 30 MPa (20 MPa). The peak stress of the ice specimen also increases first, then decreases, and then increases with the increase in freezing pressure. The maximum value is also at the freezing pressure of 30 MPa, but the minimum value is obtained at the freezing pressure of 0.5 MPa. The failure strain of the ice specimen first decreases and then increases with the increase in freezing pressure, and the maximum (minimum) value is achieved at the freezing pressure of 0.5 MPa (10 MPa). When the ice specimen exhibits brittle failure, the relationships between the residual stress and the freezing pressure and between the peak stress and freezing pressure are the same, but when the ice specimen exhibits ductile failure, there is no obvious relationship between the residual stress and the freezing pressure. Background and Purpose: Prehospital delay is the major factor limiting intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). This study aimed to: (1) identify factors related to prehospital delay and (2) determine the impact of recognition and behavior of family members on patient delay. Methods: A cross-sectional, multicenter study was conducted at six teaching hospitals in China between December 1, 2018 and November 30, 2019. Patients who experienced AIS within 7 days of onset were interviewed. Results: Of 1,782 consecutive patients (male, 57.97%; mean age, 66.3 ± 9.65 years) who had an AIS, 267 (14.98%) patients arrived within 4.5 h and 722 (40.52%) patients arrived within 6 h of stroke onset. Among patients who arrived within 4.5 h, 103 (38.6%) received thrombolysis. Age over 65 years (OR, 2.009; 95% CI, 1.014–3.982), prior stroke (OR, 3.478; 95% CI, 1.311–9.229), blurred vision (OR, 3.95; 95% CI, 1.71–9.123), and patients deciding to seek medical help (OR, 3.097; 95% CI, 1.417–6.769) were independently associated with late arrival. In contrast, sudden onset of symptoms (OR, 0.075; 95% CI, 0.028–0.196), the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale 7–15 (OR, 0.093; 95% CI, 0.035–0.251), consciousness disturbance (OR, 0.258; 95% CI, 0.091–0.734), weakness (OR, 0.265; 95% CI, 0.09–0.784), arrival by ambulance (OR, 0.102; 95% CI, 0.049–0.211), decision time <30 min (OR, 0.008; 95% CI, 0.003–0.018), and family member understanding stroke requires early treatment (OR, 0.224; 95% CI, 0.109–0.462) were independently associated with early arrival. Background: Plasma neurofilaments light chain (pNfL) is a marker of axonal injury. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of pNfL as a predictive biomarker for post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). Methods: A prospective single-center observational cohort study was conducted at the General Hospital of Western Theater Command between July 1, 2017 and December 31, 2019. Consecutive patients ≥18 years with first-ever acute ischemic stroke (AIS) of anterior circulation within 24 h of symptom onset were included. PSCI was defined by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) (MOCA < 26) at 90 days after stroke onset. Results: A total of 1,694 patients [male, 893 (52.70%); median age, 64 (16) years] were enrolled in the cohort analysis, and 1,029 (60.70%) were diagnosed with PSCI. Patients with PSCI had significantly higher pNfL [median (IQR), 55.96 (36.13) vs. 35.73 (17.57) pg/ml; P < 0.001] than Non-PSCI. pNfL was valuable for the prediction of PSCI (OR 1.044, 95% CI 1.038–1.049, P < 0.001) after a logistic regression analysis, even after adjusting for conventional risk factors including age, sex, education level, NIHSS, TOAST classification, and infarction volume (OR 1.041, 95% CI 1.034–1.047, P < 0.001). The optimal cutoff value of the pNfL concentration was 46.12 pg/ml, which yielded a sensitivity of 71.0% and a specificity of 81.5%, with the area under the curve (AUC) at 0.785 (95% CI 0.762–0.808, P < 0.001). Conclusion: This prospective cohort study showed that the pNfL concentration within 48 h of onset was an independent risk factor for PSCI 90 days after an anterior circulation stroke, even after being adjusted for potential influencing factors regarded as clinically relevant. The salience network (SN) is mainly involved in detecting and filtering multimodal salient stimuli, and mediating the switch between the default mode network and central executive network. Early studies have indicated a right‐sided dominance in the functional organization of the SN; however, the anatomical basis of the functional lateralization remains unclear. Here, we hypothesized that the structural connectivity profile between the frontoinsular cortex (FIC) and dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC), which are two core hubs of the SN, is also dominant in the right hemisphere. Based on diffusion and resting‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rfMRI) of adult healthy volunteers in independent datasets, we found a stable right‐sided laterality of both the FIC‐dACC structural and functional connectivity in both the human connectome project cohort and a local Chinese cohort. Furthermore, a significant effect of aging on the integrity of the right FIC‐dACC structural connectivity was also identified. A 1 × 4 low-loss frequency scanning planar array with hybrid feeding structure in Ku-band has been designed. In order to improve the array efficiency, the planar array was designed by four parallel sub-arrays and the waveguide slow-wave line structure with electromagnetic coupled slot on narrow side was used as feed line. The results of simulation show that, except at the centre frequency, the voltage standing wave ratio of the antenna array is below 1.2 at the operation band, the range of the scanning angles is (−30.5°, 29°), the beam width of the antenna is about 5.5°–6.6°, the sidelobe is below −20 dB, and the gain is more than 30 dBi. Benign epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BECT) is the most common childhood idiopathic focal epilepsy syndrome, which characterized with white‐matter abnormalities in the rolandic cortex. Although diffusion tensor imaging research could characterize white‐matter structural architecture, it cannot detect neural activity or white‐matter functions. Recent studies demonstrated the functional organization of white‐matter by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), suggesting that it is feasible to investigate white‐matter dysfunctions in BECT. Resting‐state fMRI data were collected from 24 new‐onset drug‐naive (unmedicated [NMED]), 21 medicated (MED) BECT patients, and 27 healthy controls (HC). Several white‐matter functional networks were obtained using a clustering analysis on voxel‐by‐voxel correlation profiles. Subsequently, conventional functional connectivity (FC) was calculated in four frequency sub‐bands (Slow‐5:0.01–0.027, Slow‐4:0.027–0.073, Slow‐3:0.073–0.198, and Slow‐2:0.198–0.25 Hz). We also employed a functional covariance connectivity (FCC) to estimate the covariant relationship between two white‐matter networks based on their correlations with multiple gray‐matter regions. Compared with HC, the NMED showed increased FC and/or FCC in rolandic network (RN) and precentral/postcentral network, and decreased FC and/or FCC in dorsal frontal network, while these alterations were not observed in the MED group. Moreover, the changes exhibited frequency‐specific properties. Specifically, only two alterations were shared in at least two frequency bands. Most of these alterations were observed in the frequency bands of Slow‐3 and Slow‐4. This study provided further support on the existence of white‐matter functional networks which exhibited frequency‐specific properties, and extended abnormalities of rolandic area from the perspective of white‐matter dysfunction in BECT. The electromagnetic noise of a claw pole alternator is minimized by rotor claw chamfering in this paper. Taguchi method was first applied to evaluate the importance of all of the six chamfer parameters on the output current and the main magnetic force harmonic, and three strongly influential parameters were later selected. Subsequently, the mathematical models of the output current and the sound power level with respect to the three chamfer parameters were developed using the response surface method. Finally, the three parameters were further optimized using the genetic algorithm. A prototype of the optimally designed claw pole alternator was manufactured and its performance was tested. Results show that the rotor claw chamfer does not decrease the output current but can reduce the noise significantly. The sound power level is decreased by more than 15 dB(A) after optimization. High northern latitudes are climatic sensitive areas, and are also regions to which polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) easily transport and accumulate with potential risk to natural ecosystems. However, the effect of PAHs on northern woody plant growth and defense under climate change is very little studied. Here, we conducted a unique experiment in greenhouses to investigate sex-related responses of the dioecious Populus tremula to pyrene (50 mg kg −1 ) and residue of pyrene in soils under ambient and elevated temperature (+1.8 °C on average) and CO 2 (740 ppm). Pyrene decreased stem biomass and leaf area by 9% and 6%, respectively under ambient conditions, and the reduction of leaf area was more severe under elevated temperature (38%), elevated CO 2 (37%), and combined T + CO 2 (42%). Other growth parameters were unchanged by pyrene. Pyrene did not affect the concentration of leaf total phenolics under ambient conditions, but increased it by 16%, 1%, and 20% compared to controls under elevated temperature, elevated CO 2 , and T + CO 2 , respectively. Pyrene had only minor sex-specific effects on plant growth and phenolics. The concentration of residual pyrene in pyrene-spiked soils was higher under elevated CO 2 than under ambient, elevated temperature, and combined T + CO 2 . The results suggest that both sexes of P. tremula have the capacity to regulate growth and metabolism to adjust to the stress of the tested pyrene contamination under elevated temperature and CO 2 , but potential risk of pyrene to plants still exists in the future changing climate. The combined effects of climate change and chemical contaminants on plant performance are still not well understood. Especially, whether different sexes of dioecious plants respond differently to combined stresses is unknown. In order to study the sex-related responses of European aspen to soil nTiO 2 contamination (0, 50, 300 mg kg –1 ) under elevated temperature (+1.6 °C) and CO 2 (730 ppm), we conducted a study in greenhouses. Ti accumulated in roots exposed to nTiO 2 (1.1–3.3 and 2.7–21.1 mg kg –1 in 50 and 300 mg kg –1 treatments, respectively). Elevated CO 2 had no effects on Ti uptake, while elevated temperature increased it in the 300 mg kg –1 treatment. Males grew taller than females under ambient conditions, but females had greater height and biomass increment under elevated temperature. In all climate treatments, nTiO 2 increased leaf phenolics in females by 12–19% and 15–26% at 50 and 300 mg kg –1 , respectively. Leaf phenolics decreased under elevated temperature, but increased under elevated CO 2 in both sexes. Results suggest that females have better chemical defense against nTiO 2 than males under future climate conditions. With the constant accumulation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil and increasing temperature and CO2 levels, plants will inevitably be exposed to combined stress. Studies on the effects of such combined stresses are needed to develop mitigation and adaptation measures. Here, we investigated the effects of soil pyrene contamination (50 mg kg−1) on growth and phenolics of 1-year-old Norway spruce seedlings from five different origins in Finland at elevated temperature (+ 2 °C) and CO2 (+ 360 ppm). Pyrene significantly decreased spruce height growth (0-48%), needle biomass (0-44%), stem biomass (0-43%), and total phenolic concentrations in needles (2-13%) and stems (1-19%) compared to control plants. Elevated temperature alone did not affect growth but led to lower concentrations of total phenolics in needles (5-29%) and stems (5-18%) in both soil treatments. By contrast, elevated CO2 led to higher needle biomass (0-39%) in pyrene-spiked soils and higher concentrations of stem phenolics (0-18%) in pyrene-spiked and control soils compared to ambient treatments. The decrease in height growth and phenolic concentrations caused by pyrene was greater at elevated temperature, while elevated CO2 only marginally modified the response. Seedlings from different origins showed different responses to the combined environmental stressors. The changes in growth and in the quantity and quality of phenolics in this study suggest that future climate changes will aggravate the negative influence of soil pyrene pollution on northern conifer forest ecosystems. Modification of calcium carbonate particles with surfactant significantly improves the properties of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Hydrophobic spherical CaCO 3 particles were prepared in the presence of dodecyl dihydrogen phosphate (DDP) by a carbonation method. In the process, DDP was used as an organic substrate to induce the nucleation and growth of calcium carbonate. The operating parameters such as temperature and the dosage of the organic substrate were varied to study their influences on the active ratio and contact angle of calcium carbonate particles. The surface property of CaCO 3 particles was changed from hydrophilic to hydrophobic when the dosage of DDP to CaCO 3 changed from 0 to 2%. The contact angle of modified CaCO 3 particles was 119.51°. Moreover, X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR spectrums and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) were employed to characterize the obtained products. The schematic illustration for interaction between the organic substrate and inorganic mineral in aqueous medium was showed in the end. The synthesized CaCO 3 was applied to polyvinyl chloride (PVC) to improve its mechanical properties. Benign epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BECT) is the most common form of childhood idiopathic focal epilepsy syndrome. We investigated quantitative evidence regarding brain morphology and functional connectivity features to provide insight into the neuroanatomical foundation of this disorder, using high resolution T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and resting state functional MRI in 21 patients with BECT and in 20 healthy children. The functional connectivity analysis, seeded at the regions with altered gray-matter (GM) volume in voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis, was further performed. Then, the observed structural and functional alteration were investigated for their association with the clinical and behavior manifestations. The increased GM volume in the striatum and fronto-temporo-parietal cortex (striato-cortical circuit) was observed in BECT. The decreased connections were found among the motor network and frontostriatal loop, and between the default mode network (DMN) and language regions. Additionally, the GM of striatum was negatively correlated with age at epilepsy onset. The current observations may contribute to the understanding of the altered structural and functional feature of striato-cortical circuit in patients with BECT. The findings also implied alterations of the motor network and DMN, which were associated with the epileptic activity in patients with BECT. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nTiO 2 ) have the potential to adsorb co-existing contaminants in aqueous environment to form nanoparticle-contaminant complexes. Adsorption by nTiO 2 might impact the fate of contaminants in water. Bioaccumulation experiments were conducted to compare the accumulation of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in marine bivalve ( Scapharca subcrenata ) exposed to PBDEs in the presence and absence of nTiO 2 . PBDEs can be taken up by S. subcrenata through aqueous exposure. nTiO 2 acts as a carrier and can enhance the ingestion of PBDEs, but the bioaccumulation of PBDEs was not facilitated significantly in the presence of nTiO 2 . Similar accumulation kinetics pattern was found after exposing to PBDEs in the presence and absence of nTiO 2 . Further analysis showed that no significant difference between the congener profiles of PBDEs in the presence and absence of nTiO 2 , suggesting that nTiO 2 would not influence the biotransformation of PBDEs in clams. Frazil particles, ice crystals or slushy granules that form in turbulent water, change the freezing properties of ice to create "frazil ice". To understand the microstructural characteristics of these particles and the physical properties of frazil ice in greater depth, an in situ sampler was designed to collect frazil particles in the Yellow River. The ice crystal microstructural characteristics of the frazil particles (morphology, size, air bubble, and sediment) were observed under a microscope, and their nucleation mechanism was analyzed according to its microstructure. The physical properties of frazil ice (ice crystal microstructure, air bubble, ice density, and sediment content) were also observed. The results showed that these microstructures of frazil particles can be divided into four types: granular, dendritic, needle-like, and serrated. The size of the measured frazil particles ranged from 0.1 to 25 mm. Compared with columnar ice, the crystal microstructure of frazil ice is irregular, with a mean crystal diameter less than 5 mm extending in all directions. The crystal grain size and ice density of frazil ice are smaller than columnar ice, but the bubble and sediment content are larger. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

External validation was conducted on 484 ICU endotracheal tube‐intubated patients from People's Hospital of Zhongjiang County.Among 38 potential predictors, five variables emerged as independent predictors, integrated into the nomogram: administration of antibiotics, nutritional therapy duration, agitation, hypotension and albumin levels.We established a nomogram based on the hospital characteristics of ICU endotracheal tube‐intubated patients, aiding in the prediction of the occurrence of oral mucosal membrane pressure injury.The study followed TRIPOD guidelines.The nomogram we developed can assist clinical worker in better identifying at‐risk patients and risk factors. Future climatic changes may alter the balance between the sexes of dioecious species due to differential effects on resource allocation to growth and defense. Our purpose was to study the impacts of elevated temperature and CO 2 concentration on the relative changes in growth and phenolics accumulation in stem bark of the dioecious Populus tremula , a keystone species for boreal forest biodiversity and one that is browsed by many mammalian herbivores. In a greenhouse experiment, four female and four male genotypes of P. tremula were grown under single and combined treatments of elevated temperature (1.5 °C on average) and CO 2 concentration (720 ppm) for one growing season. Elevated temperature increased the height, diameter, leaf and stem biomass, and in addition decreased the concentration of phenolics including salicylates, flavonoids, phenolic acids, salireposide and lignan. Elevated CO 2 concentration, on the other hand, reduced the height growth (other growth parameters were unchanged) and increased the concentration of phenolics, especially salicylates and phenolic acids. In the combined treatment, P. tremula tended to grow more, but elevated temperature counteracted the effect of elevated CO 2 concentration on phenolics accumulation. Although statistically not significant, males tended to have greater growth and a lower level of phenolics than females. The smaller sexual differences were also not strongly affected by climatic factors. Under future elevated temperature and CO 2 concentration, both sexes of P. tremula will probably grow more and possibly accumulate lower levels of phenolics, but intersexual differences in growth and phenolics accumulation may be more pronounced after sexual maturation.
