The nucleon energy-energy correlator (NEEC) was proposed recently [X. Liu and H. X. Zhu, Phys. Rev. Lett. 130, 091901 (2023)] as a new way of studying nucleon intrinsic dynamics. In this work, we present a detailed derivation of the factorization theorem that enables the measurement of the unpolarized NEEC in lepton-nucleon collisions. As a first step toward a precise measurement of this quantity, we obtained the next-to-leading-logarithmic [NLL, ∼O(αsnLn−1)] resummation in a concise analytic form, and predicted the analytic θ-angle distribution at O(αs2). Extending our analytic resummation formula to higher logarithmic accuracy and the factorization theorem to hadron-hadron collisions is straightforward.

Jets and their substructure play a central role in many analyses at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). To improve the precision of measurements, as well as to enable measurement of jet substructure at increasingly small angular scales, tracking information is often used due to its superior angular resolution and robustness to pile-up. Calculations of track-based observables involve non-perturbative track functions, that absorb infrared divergences in perturbative calculations and describe the transition to charged hadrons. The infrared divergences are directly related to the renormalization group evolution (RGE), and can be systematically computed in perturbation theory. Unlike the standard DGLAP evolution, the RGE of the track functions is non-linear, encoding correlations in the fragmentation process. We compute the next-to-leading order (NLO) evolution of the track functions, which involves in its kernel the full $1\rightarrow3$ splitting function. We discuss in detail how how we implement the evolution equation numerically, and illustrate the size of the NLO corrections. We also show that our equation can be viewed as a master equation for collinear evolution at NLO, by illustrating that by integrating out specific terms, one can derive the evolution for any $N$-hadron fragmentation function. In this contribution to the Proceedings of the US Community Study on the Future of Particle Physics (Snowmass 2021) we review recent progress in the evaluation and application of the Energy-Energy Correlator (EEC) event shape observable in $e^+e^-$ annihilation, hadronic collisions, and deep inelastic scattering. The importance of EEC as a precision probe of the perturbative and non perturbative aspects of QCD dynamics is emphasized. It can be used to extract the strong coupling constant and to constrain TMD distribution functions. Closely related energy-correlation shape variables have also been used to tag boosted objects produced in high energy collisions. The opportunities to study EEC at the future Electron-Ion Collider are also highlighted., 18 pages, 10 figures. Charged current Drell-Yan production at hadron colliders is a benchmark electroweak process. A recent measurement of the W boson mass by the CDF experiment displays a large deviation from the Standard Model prediction. To enable precision phenomenology for this process, we compute the third-order (N$^3$LO) QCD corrections to the rapidity distribution in W boson production and to the transverse mass distribution of its decay products. We present an operator based factorization formula for the transverse energy-energy correlator (TEEC) hadron collider event shape in the back-to-back (dijet) limit. This factorization formula exhibits a remarkably symmetric form, being a projection onto a scattering plane of a more standard transverse momentum dependent factorization. Soft radiation is incorporated through a dijet soft function, which can be elegantly obtained to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) due to the symmetries of the problem. We present numerical results for the TEEC resummed to next-to-next-to-leading logarithm (NNLL) matched to fixed order at the LHC. Our results constitute the first NNLL resummation for a dijet event shape observable at a hadron collider, and the first analytic result for a hadron collider dijet soft function at NNLO. We anticipate that the theoretical simplicity of the TEEC observable will make it indispensable for precision studies of QCD at the LHC, and as a playground for theoretical studies of factorization and its violation., 5 pages + Supplemental Material

N-jettiness subtractions provide a general approach for performing fully-differential next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculations. Since they are based on the physical resolution variable N-jettiness, TN, subleading power corrections in τ=TN/Q, with Q a hard interaction scale, can also be systematically computed. We study the structure of power corrections for 0-jettiness, T0, for the gg→H process. Using the soft-collinear effective theory we analytically compute the leading power corrections αsτlnτ and αs2τln3τ (finding partial agreement with a previous result in the literature), and perform a detailed numerical study of the power corrections in the gg, gq, and qq¯ channels. This includes a numerical extraction of the αsτ and αs2τln2τ corrections, and a study of the dependence on the T0 definition. Including such power suppressed logarithms significantly reduces the size of missing power corrections, and hence improves the numerical efficiency of the subtraction method. Having a more detailed understanding of the power corrections for both qq¯ and gg initiated processes also provides insight into their universality, and hence their behavior in more complicated processes where they have not yet been analytically calculated.

We continue the study of power corrections for $N$-jettiness subtractions by analytically computing the complete next-to-leading power corrections at $\cal{O}(\alpha_s)$ for color-singlet production. This includes all nonlogarithmic terms and all partonic channels for Drell-Yan and gluon-fusion Higgs production. These terms are important to further improve the numerical performance of the subtractions, and to better understand the structure of power corrections beyond their leading logarithms, in particular their universality. We emphasize the importance of computing the power corrections differential in both the invariant mass, $Q$, and rapidity, $Y$, of the color-singlet system, which is necessary to account for the rapidity dependence in the subtractions. This also clarifies apparent disagreements in the literature. A number of important observables exhibit logarithms in their perturbative description that are induced by emissions at widely separated rapidities. These include transverse-momentum ($q_T$) logarithms, logarithms involving heavy-quark or electroweak gauge boson masses, and small-$x$ logarithms. In this paper, we initiate the study of rapidity logarithms, and the associated rapidity divergences, at subleading order in the power expansion. This is accomplished using the soft collinear effective theory (SCET). We discuss the structure of subleading-power rapidity divergences and how to consistently regulate them. We introduce a new pure rapidity regulator and a corresponding $\overline{\rm MS}$-like scheme, which handles rapidity divergences while maintaining the homogeneity of the power expansion. We find that power-law rapidity divergences appear at subleading power, which give rise to derivatives of parton distribution functions. As a concrete example, we consider the $q_T$ spectrum for color-singlet production, for which we compute the complete $q_T^2/Q^2$ suppressed power corrections at $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s)$, including both logarithmic and nonlogarithmic terms. Our results also represent an important first step towards carrying out a resummation of subleading-power rapidity logarithms.

We present a fully differential next-to-next-to-leading order calculation of charm quark production in charged-current deep-inelastic scattering, with full charm-quark mass dependence. The next-to-next-to-leading order corrections in perturbative quantum chromodynamics are found to be comparable in size to the next-to-leading order corrections in certain kinematic regions. We compare our predictions with data on dimuon production in (anti-)neutrino scattering from a heavy nucleus. (2016)., The $N$-jettiness observable $\mathcal{T}_N$ provides a way of describing the leading singular behavior of the $N$-jet cross section in the $\tau =\mathcal{T}_N/Q \to 0$ limit, where $Q$ is a hard interaction scale. We consider subleading power corrections in the $\tau \ll 1$ expansion, and employ soft-collinear effective theory to obtain analytic results for the dominant $\alpha_s \tau \ln\tau$ and $\alpha_s^2 \tau\ln^3\tau$ subleading terms for thrust in $e^+e^-$ collisions and $0$-jettiness for $q\bar q$-initiated Drell-Yan-like processes at hadron colliders. These results can be used to significantly improve the numerical accuracy and stability of the $N$-jettiness subtraction technique for performing fixed-order calculations at NLO and NNLO. They reduce the size of missing power corrections in the subtractions by an order of magnitude. We also point out that the precise definition of $N$-jettiness has an important impact on the size of the power corrections and thus the numerical accuracy of the subtractions. The sometimes employed definition of $N$-jettiness in the hadronic center-of-mass frame suffers from power corrections that grow exponentially with rapidity, causing the power expansion to deteriorate away from central rapidity. This degradation does not occur for the original $N$-jettiness definition, which explicitly accounts for the boost of the Born process relative to the frame of the hadronic collision, and has a well-behaved power expansion throughout the entire phase space. Integrated over rapidity, using this $N$-jettiness definition in the subtractions yields another order of magnitude improvement compared to employing the hadronic-frame definition.

We report on a complete calculation of electroweak production of top quark pairs in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at next-to-next-to-leading order in Quantum Chromodynamics. Our setup is fully differential and can be used to calculate any infrared-safe observable. Especially we calculated the next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to top-quark forward-backward asymmetry and found sizable effects. Our results show a large reduction of the theoretical uncertainties in predictions of the forward-backward asymmetry, and allow a precision determination of the top quark electroweak couplings at future $e^+e^-$ colliders., 6 pages, 5 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1408.5150

In this paper, we study phenomenologically interesting soft radiation distributions in massless QCD. Specifically, we consider the emission of two soft partons off of a pair of light-like Wilson lines, in either the fundamental or the adjoint representation, at next-to-leading order. Our results are an essential component of the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order threshold corrections to both Higgs boson production in the gluon fusion channel and Drell-Yan lepton production. Our calculations are consistent with the recently published results for Higgs boson production. As a non-trivial cross-check on our analysis, we rederive a recent prediction for the Drell-Yan threshold cross section using a completely different strategy.
