Abstract Long-term exposure to hyperglycemic conditions leads to β-cell dysfunction, particularly mitochondrial dysfunction, and inflammatory and oxidative stress responses, which are considered the primary causes of β-cell death and the hallmarks of diabetes. Plant-active ingredients may play a key role in glycemic control. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a characteristic catechin derived from tea that possesses anti-diabetic properties. Nonetheless, its underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Herein, the protective role of EGCG on high glucose (33 mM)-induced pancreatic beta cell dysfunction and its possible molecular mechanisms were investigated. Briefly, MIN6 cells were treated with glucose and EGCG (10 µM, 20 µM, and 40 µM) for 48 h. Our results revealed that EGCG dose-dependently restored mitochondrial membrane potential and concomitantly alleviated cell apoptosis. Mechanistically, the expression level of apoptotic protein BAX and Dynamic related protein 1 (DRP1) was significantly downregulated following EGCG treatment, whereas that of the anti-apoptotic protein BCL-2 was significantly upregulated. Taken together, EGCG alleviated high glucose-induced pancreatic beta cell dysfunction by targeting the DRP1-related mitochondrial apoptosis pathway and thus can serve as a nutritional intervention for the preservation of beta cell dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

In this study, we designed ranging parameters and refined a loop filtering algorithm to solve the problem of parameter compatibility with the phasemeter and low ranging accuracy under bidirectional communication conditions. This enables the ranging and communication system to be integrated directly into the phasemeter as an auxiliary module. Experimental results compare fiber measurement lengths under different clock sources, indicating that the system achieves an ranging accuracy of 82.1 cm with an rms error of 9.14 cm. Additionally, the data communication rate reaches 19.5 kbps with a bit error rate below 10−6, all while ensuring that the implementation of the laser ranging and data communication system utilizes only 1% of the optical power to avoid introducing excessive phase noise to the scientific interferometer.

Time Delay Interferometry (TDI) is an indispensable step in the whole data processing procedure of space-based gravitational wave detection, as it mitigates the overwhelming laser frequency noise, which would otherwise completely bury the gravitational wave signals. Knowledge on the inter-spacecraft optical paths (i.e. delays) is one of the key elements of TDI. Conventional method for inter-spacecraft ranging mainly relies on the pseudo-random noise (PRN) code signal modulated onto the lasers. To ensure the reliability and robustness of this ranging information, it would be highly beneficial to develop other methods which could serve as cross-validations or backups. This paper explores the practical implementation of an alternative data-driven approach – time delay interferometry ranging (TDIR) – as a ranging technique independent of the PRN signal. Distinguished from previous research, our TDIR algorithm significantly relaxes the stringent requirement for clock synchronization imposed by traditional TDI procedure. By framing TDIR as a Bayesian parameter estimation problem and employing a general polynomial parametrization, we demonstrate our algorithm with simulated data based on the numerical orbit of Taiji. In the presence of laser frequency noise and secondary noises, the estimated median values of delays are only 5.28 ns away from the ground truths, capable of suppressing laser frequency noise to the desired level. Additionally, we have also analyzed the requirements of mitigating optical bench noise and clock noise on TDIR, and presented an illustrative example for the impact of laser locking.

Tilt-to-length (TTL) coupling noise arises from angular misalignments of interfering beams in optical path length (OPL) measurements and significantly impacts the accuracy of interferometry measurement systems. This paper focuses on geometric TTL coupling in a test mass (TM) interferometer and examines how an imaging system influences TTL noise suppression. First, the analytical expression of the geometric TTL coupling in a TM interferometer with alignment errors is derived and confirmed through numerical simulation. Subsequently, an imaging system is incorporated into the geometric model and the corresponding analytical expressions are obtained under two common conjugate relationships. Nevertheless, the TTL coupling remains beyond the requirement of TM interferometer, as the residual TTL coupled with alignment errors persists even with the imaging system. Therefore, an optimal position of the imaging system capable of eliminating the second-order term of the TTL coupling is determined. Meanwhile, the first-order term can be mitigated through in-orbit calibrations. These findings offer valuable guidance for the design and adjustment of imaging systems in space-borne gravitational wave detection missions, which require high-precision laser interferometry.

Abstract Coalescing supermassive black hole binaries (SMBHBs) are the primary source candidates for low frequency gravitational wave (GW) detections, which could bring us deep insights into galaxy evolutions over cosmic time and violent processes of spacetime dynamics. Promising candidates had been found based on optical and X-ray observations, which claims for new and ready-to-use GW detection approaches before the operations of space-borne antennas. We show that, satellite laser ranging (SLR) missions could serve as probes of coalescing SMBHBs through the GW-induced resonant effects. Lasting and characteristic imprints caused by such resonances in the residual distances or accelerations from SLR measurements are studied, and the detection SNR is analyzed with both the current and future improved ranging precisions. Within redshift $$z \sim 1$$ z ∼ 1 , the threshold SNR = 5 requires 1–2 years of accumulated data for the current precision and months of data for improved precision, which are workable for the data processing of SLR missions. Meanwhile, joint detections with multiple SLR missions could further improve the total SNR and the confidence level. Such a detection scheme could fulfill the requirement of a tentative SMBHB probe during the preparing stage of LISA and Taiji, and it requires no further investment to any new and advanced facilities. It is also worthwhile to look back and re-process the archived data from the past decades, in where resonant signals from SMBHBs might be hidden.

Abstract Lysozyme can kill bacteria by its enzymatic activity or through a mechanism involving its cationic nature, which can facilitate electrostatic interactions with the viral capsid, the negatively charged parts of nucleic acids, and polymerase, so binding to nucleic acids may be another biological function of lysozyme. Here, PCR was used as a research tool to detect the effects of lysozyme on the replication and transcription of nucleic acids after treatment in different ways. We found that lysozyme and its hydrolysate can enter cells and inhibit PCR to varying degrees in vitro, and degraded lysozyme inhibited nucleic acid replication more effectively than intact lysozyme. The inhibition of lysozyme may be related to polymerase binding, and the sensitivity of different polymerases to lysozyme is inconsistent. Our findings provide a theoretical basis for further explaining the pharmacological effects of lysozyme, such as antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer, and immune regulatory activities, and directions for the development of new pharmacological effects of lysozyme and its metabolites.

Magnetic disturbance, originating arising from the interaction between the environmental magnetic field and the test mass (TM) properties, is a significant source of the high-precision inertial sensor noise in the space-borne gravitational wave detection missions, which puts forward an extremely stringent requirement on the TM magnetic cleanliness. Therefore, a torsion pendulum for on-ground testing is required to characterize the magnetic properties of a TM. We report an improved magnetic properties measurement scheme using a torsion pendulum with an electrostatically controlled block. In this novel scheme, four magnetometers are set near the TM for real-time monitoring the magnetic field, and a magnetic field correction method is proposed to improve the magnetic properties calculation precision. The results showed that the relative error of our method, compared with that of the traditional method, decreased from 35.40% to 2.38% for the component of the remnant magnetic moment my and from 8.65% to 6.75% for the magnetic susceptibility χ.

An electrostatic suspension accelerometer is an important instrument for measuring quasi-steady micro-acceleration. A reasonable working mode is the premise to ensure acquisition and stable control of the accelerometer in-orbit and then to carry out high-precision linear measurement. Based on the dynamic model analysis of the electrostatic suspension accelerometer, and taking the force balance of inertial proof mass as the fundamental requirement, the design of the acquisition working mode and measurement working mode based on displacement sensing output and feedback control output is proposed. The rationality and feasibility of the proposed working mode design are verified by the ground drop tower test of the Taiji-1 accelerometer prototype and in-flight test of the actual product.

A kind of full-function two-sided optical bench interferometer (OBI) is designed to meet the practical requirements of the Taiji Program for space gravitational wave detection. The main optical paths are arranged on the A-side for transmission and interference, and other optical paths and electronic devices are placed on the B-side. According to the design scheme, we successfully constructed two OBIs by using hydrogen–oxygen catalytic stress-free bonding technology. When the OBI is installed and adjusted, the position and Angle error of the interference beam are controlled within 30 μm and 50 μrad through the self-designed precision mechanical clamping mechanism and beam position measuring device. The built OBI was placed on the vibration isolation platform in the vacuum tank for the stability test. The test results show that the noise of the OBI is less than 10 pm/√Hz in the frequency band of 0.1 Hz to 1 Hz, which meets the noise budget requirements of the Taiji Pathfinder in the middle- and high-frequency band.

In space gravitational wave detection missions, a drag-free system is used to keep the test mass (TM) free-falling in an ultralow-noise environment. Ground verification experiments should be carried out to clarify the shielding and compensating capabilities of the system for multiple stray force noises. A hybrid apparatus was designed and analyzed based on the traditional torsion pendulum, and a technique for enhancing the sensitivity of the torsion pendulum system by employing the differential wavefront sensing (DWS) optical readout was proposed. The readout resolution experiment was then carried out on an optical bench that was designed and established. The results indicate that the angular resolution of the DWS signal in optical readout mode can reach the level of 10 nrad/Hz1/2 over the full measurement band. Compared with the autocollimator, the sensitivity of the torsional pendulum is noticeably improved, and the background noise is expected to reach 4.5 × 10−15 Nm/Hz1/2@10 mHz. This method could also be applied to future upgrades of similar systems.

High-precision inertial sensors or accelerometers can provide references for free-falling motion in gravitational fields in space. They serve as the key payloads for gravity recovery missions such as CHAMP, the GRACE-type missions, and the planned Next-Generation Gravity Missions. In this work, a systematic method for electrostatic inertial sensor calibration of gravity recovery satellites is suggested, which is applied to and verified with the Taiji-1 mission. With this method, the complete operating parameters including the scale factors, the center of mass offset vector, and the intrinsic biased acceleration can be precisely calibrated with only two sets of short-term in-orbit experiments. This could reduce the gaps in data that are caused by necessary in-orbit calibrations during the lifetime of related missions. Taiji-1 is the first technology-demonstration satellite of the “Taiji Program in Space”, which, in its final extended phase in 2022, could be viewed as operating in the mode of a high–low satellite-to-satellite tracking gravity mission. Based on the principles of calibration, swing maneuvers with time spans of approximately 200 s and rolling maneuvers for 19 days were conducted by Taiji-1 in 2022. Given the data of the actuation voltages of the inertial sensor, satellite attitude variations, precision orbit determinations, the inertial sensor’s operating parameters are precisely re-calibrated with Kalman filters and are relayed to the Taiji-1 science team. Onboard electrostatic suspension inertial sensors are important applications for gravity satellites and space gravitational-wave detection missions, and it is important to suppress noise in the measurement signal. Due to the complex coupling between the working space environment and the satellite platform, the process of noise generation is extremely complex, and traditional noise modeling and subtraction methods have certain limitations. With the development of deep learning, applying it to high-precision inertial sensors to improve the signal-to-noise ratio is a practically meaningful task. Since there is a single noise sample and unknown true value in the measured data in orbit, odd–even sub-samplers and periodic sub-samplers are designed to process general signals and periodic signals, and adds reconstruction layers consisting of fully connected layers to the model. Experimental analysis and comparison are conducted based on simulation data, GRACE-FO acceleration data, and Taiji-1 acceleration data. The results show that the deep learning method is superior to traditional data smoothing processing solutions.

Recent technological advancements and the evolution of industrial manufacturing paradigms have substantially increased the complexity of product-specific production systems. To reduce the time cost of modelling and verification and to enhance the degree of uniformity in the modelling process of system components, this article presents a componentised framework for domain modelling and performance analysis based on the concept of “multi-granularity and multi-view” for a production line of personalised and customised products, for plug-and-play manufacturing processes to involving a large number of model input parameters. The coloured Petri net tool is utilised as a simulation tool for mapping domain models to computational models for simulation and performance evaluation. This paper presents a method for setting the input parameters of a production system when using WIP, through-put and cycle time as metrics. The results of the performance analysis demonstrate the applicability of the proposed framework and provide direction for the production line’s layout design and scheduling strategy.

Abstract The detection mission of gravitational waves in space is that the accuracy of the long-baseline intersatellite laser interferometry on the million-kilometer order needs to reach the order of $$8 \rm{pm}/\sqrt{\rm{Hz}}$$ 8 p m / H z . Among all noise sources that affect the interferometry accuracy, tilt-to-length (TTL) coupling noise is the second largest source of noise after shot noise. This paper focuses on studying the contribution of TTL coupling noise of the telescope system in the intersatellite scientific interferometer. By referring to the laser interferometer space antenna (LISA)’s noise budget, TTL coupling noise is required to be within ±25μm/rad (±300μrad). Therefore, this paper focuses on studying both the mechanism of TTL coupling noise due to the noise sources of the telescope and the method of suppressing the TTL noise, which can lay a foundation for noise distribution and the development of engineering prototypes in subsequent tasks.

The space gravitational wave (GW) antennae is more sensitive to the lower frequency GW signals compare with the ground-based GW detectors. The space mission Taiji is designed to detect the GW sources within frequencies between 0.1 mHz and 1 Hz. A preliminary study of Taiji was started in 2008. Up to now, a sophisticated mission design of Taiji have gradually taken shape. The research and development of the key technologies for Taiji is now officially launched. A brief introduction to the analysis and the pre-work of the Taiji technology are given here.

With the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission as the prime example, an overview is given on the management and processing of Level 1A data of a low–low satellite to satellite tracking mission. To illustrate the underlying principle and algorithm, a detailed study is made on the K-band ranging (KBR) assembly, which includes the measurement principles, modeling of noises, the generation of Level 1A data from that of Level 0 as well as Level 1A to Level 1B data processing.

For the Taiji space gravitational wave detection and its pathfinder mission, ultraprecise technology for optical assembly must be adopted to satisfy the high measurement sensitivities required. In this paper, we construct and evaluate an optical bench to assess its precision in optical assembly and bonding. We opted for hydroxide-catalysis bonding technology and designed a corresponding adjustment scheme to achieve an ultraprecise assembly for the optical bench. After alignment, the angular deviation between the interference beam and its ideal position in the global coordinate system is no more than 45 μrad, and positional deviation is less than 10 μm. The final experimental results indicate that the measurement precision of the evaluated board is 6 pm/√Hz, which meets the specifications required for the Taiji pathfinder.
