Aim: This study aimed to determine the psychosocial status of parents and children one year after the earthquakes that affected 11 provinces in our country on February 6, 2023, and to identify the effects of parents’ psychosocial problems on their health perceptions, the occurrence of psychosocial symptoms in their children, and parent-child communication. Material and Method: The study had a cross-sectional descriptive design, and the sample included 204 individuals who volunteered to participate via online social media platforms between November 2023 and February 2024 and met the inclusion criteria. The data were collected using the “Parent and child information form” developed by the researchers based on the literature, the “Health Perception Scale,” the “Beck Anxiety Inventory,” the “Beck Depression Inventory,” the “Parent-Child Relationship Scale,” and the “Pediatric Symptom Checklist (PSC-17)” for children aged 6–16. Completing the data collection instruments took approximately 15–20 minutes. Results: It was determined that 45% of parents had mild anxiety, while 35% had mild depression. Only 1% of children had a PSC17 score of 12 or higher. There was no significant difference in communication with their children based on the parents’ anxiety and depression levels (p>0.05). Children of parents experiencing anxiety and depression after the earthquake had statistically significant psychosocial problems. Parents’ health perception scores varied according to their depression levels. Advanced analysis indicated that parents with moderate and severe depression scores had lower health perception scores compared to parents with low and mild depression scores (p: 0.02; p: 0.012). Conclusion: Even one year after the earthquake, parents continued to experience anxiety and depression, and this situation affected the occurrence of psychosocial problems in their children. Additionally, parents with high levels of depression had lower health perception scores. These results demonstrate the continued need for psychosocial support for parents after an earthquake. This article seeks to provide a wisdom domain moral analysis of Proverbs 1:8–9 on the role of parents in conveying the significance of parental instruction and the development of wisdom in children. As a process through which young individuals acquire and cultivate essential qualities and values that shape their behavior and moral outlook, children character development encompasses various aspects, including moral, social, emotional, and cognitive dimensions, and it is influenced by a range of factors, including familial upbringing, social interactions, cultural influences, education, and personal experiences. Whilst the origin of parents as agents of moral guardian is not explicitly stated in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament (HB/OT), Proverbs 1:8–9 is one of those key passages whose themes underscore the profound significance of family structure and system, and parental responsibility. The verses highlight the spiritual and moral dimensions of family life, promoting a sense of dignity, submission, and personal development within the context of a supportive family structure. The incisive prescriptions of the text offer a journey into self-understanding, self-development, and self-actualization, by reaffirming the family as a pivotal social institution while balancing the roles and responsibilities of parents and children. Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: This article brings together biblical and theological insights from the parental rhetoric of Proverbs 1:8–9 to bear on and help shape the oversight function of parents as agents of children moral development and healthy family life. The verses bridge spiritual wisdom with scientific understanding, presenting a holistic view of how a child grows intellectually, emotionally, and morally.

Background: Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) among adolescents is a growing global concern. However, effective interventions for treating NSSI are limited. Method: A 36-week quasi-experimental study design of parent--child group resilience training (intervention group) for adolescents aged 12-17 years was used and compared with treatment-as-usual (control group). The primary endpoint was the frequency of NSSI assessed with the Ottawa Self-Injury Inventory (OSI), and the secondary endpoints were the levels of depression, hope, resilience, and family adaptability and cohesion as assessed by the 24-item Hamilton depression rating scale (HAMD-24), Herth Hope Scale (HHS), Connor- Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale, second edition (FACES-II-CV), respectively. Result: A total of 118 participants completed the trial. Both groups showed a significant reduction in NSSI frequency after 12, 24, and 36 weeks of intervention (p< 0.05), although the intervention group did not differ significantly from the control group. After 12, 24, and 36 weeks of intervention, the CD-RISC, HHS, HAMD-24, and FACES-II-CV scores in the intervention and control groups improved over baseline (p< 0.05). Furthermore, the intervention group had higher scores on the CD-RISC, HHS, and FACES-II-CV and lower scores on the HAMD-24 than the control group after 12, 24, and 36 weeks of intervention (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Parent--child group emotional regulation and resilience training showed promise as treatment options for NSSI among adolescents, leading to increased hope, resilience, and improved family dynamics among NSSI teens. This study aimed to explore the differences in the influence of related factors affecting children’s screen time based on their sleep, difficulties, and parental control among Japanese elementary and junior high school students. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among parents in Japan. Data on screen time duration, parent–child background, strengths and difficulties, sleep variables, and parental control types were collected from 225 households. A regression analysis revealed that high Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) scores (β = 0.166, p = 0.008), sleep duration (β = −0.281, p < 0.001), and parental control (β = −0.204, p = 0.001) were significantly related to children’s screen time. Additionally, it was found that parents’ late bedtimes affect children’s screen time by mediating children’s sleep duration. This study, together with previous research, provides comprehensive insights into design interventions to decrease the screen time of children in the Japanese context.

The relationship with parents is one source of happiness and psychological well-being for children. The impact of the relationship is undoubtedly essential for children in dealing with rapid changes, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to explain the parent-child relationship during the COVID-19 pandemic in Semarang. The method used in this study is indigenous psychology with a grounded theory approach. The data retrieval technique used is purposive sampling by filling out the open-ended questionnaire. A total of 207 emerging adult children aged 17-23 suitable for the inclusion criteria were willing to participate in this study. The study found that the parent-child relationship was getting closer during the COVID-19 pandemic in Semarang for respondents who were close before the pandemic. However, there has been no change in parents and children who have a distant relationship since before the pandemic. This study also indicates that communication, giving support, father’s character, togetherness, loving, and thinking of fathers as role models are forms of the father-child relationship. Moreover, the forms with their mothers are indicated by the communication, loving, togetherness, mother’s character, and giving support.

Introduction: Psychiatric Mother-Baby Units are well established in France, United Kingdom, and Australia, mostly in full-time hospitalization. Inpatient units are considered as best practice for improving outcomes for mothers and babies when the mother is experiencing severe mental illness and many studies have showed the effectiveness of care for the mother or the mother-infant relationship. Only a limited number of studies have focused on the day care setting or on the development of the baby. Our parent-baby day unit is the first day care unit in child psychiatry in Belgium. It offers specialized evaluation and therapeutic interventions focused on the baby and involves parents with mild or moderate psychiatric symptoms. The advantages of day care unit is to reduce the rupture with social and family living. Aims: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of parent-baby day unit in prevention of babies' developmental problems. First, we present the clinical characteristics of the population treated in the day-unit in comparison to the features presented in the literature review about mother-baby units, which usually receive full-time treatment. Then, we will identify the factors that might contribute to a positive evolution of the baby's development. Materials and methods: In this study, we retrospectively analyze data of patients admitted between 2015 and 2020 in the day unit. Upon admission, the 3 pillars of perinatal care - babies, parents, and dyadic relationships - have systematically been investigated. All the families have received a standard perinatal medicopsycho-social anamnesis, including data on the pregnancy period. In this unit, all the babies are assessed at entry and at discharge using the diagnostic 0 to 5 scale, a clinical withdrawal risk, and a developmental assessment (Bayley). Parental psychopathology is assessed with the DSM5 diagnostic scale and the Edinburgh scale for depression. Parent-child interactions are categorized according to Axis II of the 0 to 5 scale. We have evaluated the improvement of children symptomatology, the child development and the mother-child relation between the entrance (T1) and the discharge (T2) and we have compared two groups of clinical situations: a group of patients with a successful evolution (considering baby's development and the alliance with the parents) and a group of unsuccessful evolution during hospitalization. Statistical analysis: We use descriptive statistics to characterize our population. To compare the different groups of our cohort, we use the T-test and nonparametric tests for continue variables. For discrete variables, we used the Chi2 test of Pearson. Discussion: The clinical population of the day unit is comparable to the motherbaby units in terms of psychosocial fragility but the psychopathological profile of the parents entering the day unit shows more anxiety disorder and less postpartum psychosis. The babies' development quotient is in the average range at T1 and is maintained at T2. In the day unit, the number of symptoms as well as the relational withdrawal of the babies is reduced between T1 and T2. The quality of parent-child relationship is improved between T1 and T2. The children of the group of pejorative evolution had a lower developmental quotient at the T1 and an overrepresentation of traumatic life events. Conclusion: These results indicate that parent-baby day unit lead to positive outcomes in clinical situations with anxio-depressive parents, relational withdrawal of the babies, functional problems of the babies but not when a significant impact on the development of the baby already exists. The results of this study can guide therapeutic approaches for the benefit of care in parent-baby day units, and improve the development of the child and of the dyadic relationships. Background: Poor maternal mental well-being and a lack of secure parent-infant attachment, have been identified as important factors associated with adverse mental health outcomes later in a child's life. Interventions designed to care for maternal mental well-being during pregnancy and early parenthood, are therefore likely to support healthy child development. Mentalization is a skill parents can practice, improving the emotional bond to the child, offering insights into their own and the child's mental states and potentially improving parental mental well-being. Most pregnant women in Denmark schedule antenatal consultations in general practice, potentially offering a solid platform to promote web-based interventions aiming to enhance mentalization skills. Signposting towards online resources has several advantages including high accessibility, ease of distribution and cost-effectiveness. We aimed to explore the attitudes and experiences of clinicians in general practice in signposting women towards a web-intervention to increase parental mentalization skills. Methods: The intervention was offered to pregnant women at their primary preventive antenatal consultation in Danish general practice around week eight of pregnancy, and was designed to be incorporated into the following antenatal- and pediatric consultations until the child's second birthday. Semi-structured interviews about clinicians' experiences with signposting the intervention were conducted with 11 general practitioners (GP), three practice midwives (MW) and one practice nurse (NR). Results: Clinicians wanted to enhance the focus on mental well-being in pregnancy and early childhood during preventive consultations. The main barriers to signposting the web-program were decreasing motivation over time, lack of financial viability and time limitations. Utilizing a psychoeducational web-intervention was generally accepted by clinicians, but ideally not carried out solely in general practice. Conclusion: Signposting web-programs to improve parental mentalization skills can be welcomed by clinicians in general practice but need to be more tailored to suit the everyday workflow of the clinics. Addressing parental mentalization remains largely unchartered territory for pregnant women and clinicians alike, therefore training clinicians on the subject and its presentation should be offered. Introduction: Interactions within the family will determine the behavior of adolescents. Lack of interaction in adolescents is a risk factor for adolescent behaving deviant, among others, unmerried sexual and aggressive behaviors. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between parental interaction and the premarital sexual and aggressive behavior among adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional approach was taken. The sample consisted of 744 adolescents from junior high school and senior high school in Java Island aged 13 - 19 years old who had completed a Google form. The independent variable was parent interaction while the dependent variable was premarital sexual and aggressive behaviors. The PACHIQ-R questionnaire was used for measuring parent interaction. While the dependent variable was using checklist questionnaire. The data was analyzed using Spearman Rank correlation with a level of significance α=0.05. The relationship between children and their maternal uncles in contemporary Mosuo culture reveals a unique parenting mode in a matrilineal society. This study compared the responses of Mosuo and Han participants from questionnaires on the parent–child and maternal uncle–child relationship. More specifically, Study 1 used Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) to assess the reactions of the two groups to the relationship between children and their mothers, fathers, and maternal uncles. The results show that while Han people display a higher level of attachment toward their fathers than their maternal uncles, Mosuo people do not exhibit a significant difference in this aspect. Study 2 used a scenario-based method to compare how adults and teenagers perceive the rights and responsibilities of fathers/maternal uncles toward their children/nephews or nieces. The results show that Han adults attribute more rights and responsibilities to their own children than nephews/nieces, while their Mosuo counterparts have the reverse pattern and assign stronger responsibilities to their nephews/nieces than their own children. Both groups perceive the fathers to be the bearer of rights and responsibilities, although this perception was weaker among Mosuo. Background: Some studies suggest that favourable socioeconomic circumstances are associated with better parent–child relations but the documentation of such an association is limited and inconsistent. Few studies focused on infancy, few studies relied on objective measurement of parent–infant relations, and few studies included more than one measurement of parent–infant relations in the first year of life. Aims: To report the prevalence of objectively measured problems in parent–infant relations during the first year of life and to examine the association between socioeconomic circumstances and parent–infant relations in an unselected community sample of infants. Methods: Cross-sectional study of a community sample of children from birth to 10 months in 15 municipalities in Denmark, n = 11,765. The exposure variables were population register data about socioeconomic circumstances: (a) parents' education, (b) family composition, (c) parents' origin, and (d) parents' occupational status. The outcome variable was the health visitor's concerns about the parent–infant relation assessed at four home visits from birth to 10 months after delivery. Results: The proportion of children with concerns about the parent–infant relation was 10.5%, 7.8% at one home visit and 2.8% at two or more home visits. Logistic regression analyses showed that all four indicators of socioeconomic circumstances were associated with concerns about the parent–infant relation in the first year of life. Conclusions : The risk of problematic parent–infant relations were significantly elevated among, children of immigrant parents, and children of parents with shorter education and not in education or work. L'attentat du 14 juillet 2016 à Nice est un des premiers attentats en France ayant directement touché une population de nombreux enfants et adolescents de tout âge ainsi que leurs familles. Les enfants sont fréquemment exposés à des évènements traumatiques et ils sont plus à risque de développer un Trouble de Stress Post-Traumatique (TSPT) à la suite d'un évènement traumatique pouvant engendrer des complications et une altération de la personnalité sur le long terme. De plus, il est important de prendre en compte l'enfant dans sa globalité, notamment concernant la relation avec ses parents. À ce jour, il y a peu de littérature concernant la clinique du TSPT et ses conséquences à moyen et long terme chez les enfants à la période infra-verbale c'est-à-dire âgés de moins de trois ans. Dans cet article, nous allons présenter trois cas cliniques de nourrissons et d'enfants âgés respectivement de six mois, d'un an et de trois ans au moment de l'attentat de Nice et qui ont présenté un TSPT. Il existe des symptômes psycho-traumatiques spécifiques au jeune enfant avec des comportements observables, un impact sur le développement psychomoteur et des troubles psychosomatiques. Des complications sont fréquemment retrouvées particulièrement des troubles du sommeil et des troubles anxieux. De plus, la relation parents-enfant est susceptible d'être impactée avec une altération des schémas d'attachement. Des études sont nécessaires afin de mieux comprendre la clinique du TSPT à la période infra-verbale et de spécifier les réactions de stress post-traumatique en fonction des différences développementales liées à l'enfance et de la qualité d'interaction avec son environnement et notamment avec ses figures d'attachement. The attack of July 14th, 2016 in Nice, France, is one of the first terrorist attacks in France to directly involve a population of numerous children and adolescents of all ages as well as their families. Children are highly affected by traumatic events and are at greater risk of developing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after a traumatic event that can result in complications and long-term changes in personality. It is important to take into consideration the child as a whole with his/her environment and in particular the quality of the relationship with his/her parents. To date, there is limited literature concerning the clinical course of PTSD and the medium and long-term consequences for children in the infra-verbal period (0–3 years). In this article, we will present three clinical cases aged respectively six months, one year and three years at the time of the Nice attack. Children present psycho-traumatic symptoms specific for young children with observable behaviors, neurodevelopmental symptoms, and psychosomatic disorders. Complications are frequently observed, particularly sleep and anxiety disorders. In addition, the parent-child relationship is likely to be impacted with altered attachment patterns. Further studies are necessary to understand more about PTSD in the infra-verbal period and to specify post-traumatic stress reactions according to developmental differences in childhood and the quality of interaction with the child's environment, particularly with attachment figures. Excessive crying and sleep problems affect up to 30% of infants and often coexist. Although usually benign and self-limiting, persistent crying, and sleep problems exceeding 6 months of age need attention as they may impair the mental health of the infant and its family. The source and the impact of these persistent regulatory problems is often not restricted to the infant, but extends to the parents and the parent–infant relationship. Clinical practice needs interdisciplinary and multi-method interventions focusing beyond regulatory problems of the infant but also on parental self-regulation and parent's co-regulatory responses toward the infant. Treating clinicians may encounter limitations of home-visits, outpatient, and pediatric residential settings when working with families in distress. We describe an infant mental health day-clinic treatment, drawing attention to this viable future direction. It offers a therapeutic climate based on forming a triangle of co-regulation between clinician, parent and infant to first help the parent and the infant settle down. This stress reduction restores parent–infant connectedness and parental learning and reflecting capacity. Clinicians then use established therapeutic modalities to support parental self- and co-regulatory skills which is important for the development of self-regulation in the infant. Excessive crying and sleep problems affect up to 30% of infants and often coexist. Although usually benign and self-limiting, persistent crying, and sleep problems exceeding 6 months of age need attention as they may impair the mental health of the infant and its family. The source and the impact of these persistent regulatory problems is often not restricted to the infant, but extends to the parents and the parent–infant relationship. Clinical practice needs interdisciplinary and multi-method interventions focusing beyond regulatory problems of the infant but also on parental self-regulation and parent's co-regulatory responses toward the infant. Treating clinicians may encounter limitations of home-visits, outpatient, and pediatric residential settings when working with families in distress. We describe an infant mental health day-clinic treatment, drawing attention to this viable future direction. It offers a therapeutic climate based on forming a triangle of co-regulation between clinician, parent and infant to first help the parent and the infant settle down. This stress reduction restores parent–infant connectedness and parental learning and reflecting capacity. Clinicians then use established therapeutic modalities to support parental self- and co-regulatory skills which is important for the development of self-regulation in the infant. The aim of our research was to study the family background of young athletes. If parents want their children to like sports and lay down the foundations of a healthy lifestyle, they have to support their children's physical activity in the beginning. Our goal was to identify the factors that make parents support their children's sports activities by exploring the motivations originating from the family. Considering the deteriorating overall health condition of society, the subject of this study is very timely. The promotion of sports is essential if we want our children to live a healthy lifestyle when they grow up. The costs related to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and metabolic problems, which result from sedentary lifestyle and obesity, are increasing both for individuals and national economies (Ács et al., 2011; Ács et al, 2020; Ding et al 2016). It has been established that the costs of supporting physical activities are lower than the treatment of the abovementioned health problems (Apor, 2010; Ding et al., 2017).A body of research has been conducted to study the effects of sport on children and the role of parents in this context during socialization. However, there are almost no studies that evaluate the reverse process, i.e., how sport activities of children affect their parents. In this study, we wanted to determine how children influenced others around them, what happens when parents are introduced to the world of sports through their children, and whether this effect can turn into a motivation to start physical activities. In addition, we wanted to study factors that made parents motivate their children to perform physical activities and the key areas where children could be most influenced. Factitious disorder imposed on another (FDIA-DSM-5), formerly known as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSP) is a form of child abuse. A case can be recognised by only keeping the relevant diagnoses in mind. There are many cases of FDIA diversified by the contributions of both the caregiver and the child. Most of these cases are complicated by the difficulty of accurately determining the relative roles of the parent and the child and their levels of awareness and motivation. Here, we present the case of an 11-year old girl admitted to our hospital with the complaint of haematemesis 6-8 times a day. A case of factitious disorder was considered following the physical and psychological examinations on the patient. Evaluating the case within this context suggested a case of FDIA by drawing attention to the continuity of the symptoms described in the patient with the those of the caregiver. In approaching cases of FDIA, unravelling the interdependence of the dynamics of different awareness levels of feigning and motivation by the caregiver and the child is very crucial. Considering the variations in the process of FDIA development through interweaving of the motivations of the mother and child, the case presented here is believed to bring a different point of view that will contribute to the understanding of the nature of this disorder. This study examined the mediating effect of friends' characteristics (problem behavior and academic achievement) in the association between students' background (family and individual factors) and later academic adjustment, as operationalized by problem behavior and academic achievement. We recruited 998 participants in three public middle schools and used three annual waves of data collection (Grades 6, 7, and 8). We found that students' own academic achievement and problem bahvior are predictors of later adjustment. Friendship choices are identified as a mediation mechanism that contributes to consistent adjustment from the beginning to the end of middle school. Specifically, high-achieving students in Grade 6 tend to associate with high-achieving friends and are unlikely to associate with friends who exhibit problem behavior in Grade 7, which results in continued achievement in Grade 8. Associating with high-achieving friends in Grade 7 also mediated the link between adolescent problem behavior in Grade 6 and academic achievement by Grade 8. Friends' characteristics in Grade 7 did not mediate the effect of any family factor measured in Grade 6. Living arrangements with the family members play an important role in the life of the elderly. An unpleasant situation in the family creates a number of physical health and mental stress-related problems. An attempt was made in this study to find out the relation between the living arrangements and Parent-child relationship and depression level in 410 elderly, age varying from 60 years and above, living in rural area of Eastern Utter Pradesh (India). The sample (410 elderly respondents) was drawn by applying multistage random sampling technique from the different parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, a northern and most populous state of India. Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS Long Term) was used to measure the level of depression of these elderly people. High depression level was reported with increased age of the elderly persons (r= 0.23; p<0.001). Severe depression was found more among female elderly persons than males (z = -6.15; p< 0.001) and more among widow/widower (z = -8.083; p <0.001). Elderly who felt that their present living conditions were uncomfortable were more depressed than elderly living in comfortable or satisfactorily home environment (÷2 = 19.36; p <0.001). Interestingly, the elderly who were living with their married child were found more/severely depressed compared to those whose married children were not living with them and migrated to other states (z= -2.95; p< 0.01). It may be due to the fact that the migrated working children often send remittances to their elderly parents left behind in rural areas. Depression level of the elderly was found to be comparatively high when they were not satisfied with their offspring irrespective of the fact that the children are living with them or separately. It was suggested that proper social security measures for the elderly, especially the health and monetary needs of the elderly parents who had no other source of income for their basic needs, should be looked after by the family and society to overcome their physical and mental health. Objective:The aim of the present study is to examine the factors related aggression in Iranian and Indian school children. Method: Attachment security (dependency, availability, and total) considered as the variable. The KSS questionnaire was administrated students in the 5th grade; 300 were Iranian and 300 were Indian consisted of 150 boys and 150 girls). Results: Attachment security demonstrated significant negative correlations with aggression in the boys, girls and the total Iranian sample. The dependency on mothers was the only case with insignificant correlation.In the Indian sample, attachment security was also found to be significantly negatively correlated with aggression. The only exception was the correlation between mother's availability and aggression in girls, which was not significant Conclusion: It is important that parents treat their children in a tender, manner so that a secure attachment develop between them.

Introduction and Aims: Adverse childhood experiences and their accumulation over childhood have negative outcomes to children, yet earlier findings on the independent effect of parental substance abuse seem inconsistent. Our aims were to examine: (i) whether parental substance abuse is associated with children's mental disorders in mid-childhood (7-12 years) and mental disorders and own substance use in adolescence (13-17 years); and (ii) whether children are affected differently by a mother or father's substance abuse.Design and Methods: A register-based longitudinal data on a complete birth cohort of children born in Finland in 1991 (n = 65 117) and their biological parents. The children were followed until their 18th birthday. Data were derived from the Finnish administrative registries. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used in the analysis.Results: Maternal, paternal and both parents' substance abuse were significant predictors of mental disorders and harmful substance use in children aged 13-17 years, even after controlling for other adverse childhood experiences, parental education and child's gender. Parental substance abuse predicted mental disorders in children aged 7-12 years in bivariate model but in multivariate model the association disappeared. Maternal substance abuse had stronger effect on harmful substance use in adolescent children than paternal. There were no significant interactions between substance abusing parents' gender and the child's gender.Discussion and Conclusions: Early identification, prevention and treatment of substance abuse in families with children in primary health care, child welfare and other services are crucial in preventing intergenerational transmission of the problems associated with parental substance abuse. Purpose This study explored the challenges faced by adolescents with sickle cell disease (SCD) and their parents and the work they engage in to progressively shift from parent management to independent adolescent self-management. Design and methods A qualitative descriptive focus-group design with semi-structured interviews was used with adolescents (11–18 years) with SCD (HbSS genotype) and their parents/primary caregivers. Interviews were analyzed using content analysis. Results Two adolescent focus groups, with a total of 14 adolescents, and two parent focus groups, with a total of 15 parents, described adaptive challenges. Adolescents' adaptive challenges included mastering complex symptom management, communicating about SCD and symptoms, and maintaining control. Parents' adaptive challenges included giving over the complex management, communicating the management with the adolescent, balancing protection against risk with fostering independence, changing a comfortable rhythm, and releasing the adolescent into an "SCD-naive" world. Adolescents' adaptive work included pushing back at parents, defaulting back to parental care, stepping up with time, learning how SCD affects them, and educating friends about SCD. Parents' adaptive work included engaging the adolescent in open dialogue and co-managing with the adolescent. Conclusions Shifting management responsibility from parents to adolescents imposes adaptive challenges for both. Future research is needed to develop and test interventions that improve adaptive capacity in adolescents and parents. Practice implications Health care providers need to assess the parent–child relationship and their progress in shifting the management responsibility, facilitate discussions to arrive at a shared understanding of the challenges, and collaborate on adaptive work to address these challenges. Smartphones and mobile applications are omnipresent in our lives. At the core of this article are 'other-tracking apps', i.e. mobile applications that make it possible, via location technology, to track others. These apps ensure that we are never unconnected from the network of ubiquitous information and, via that network, from others. In specific, focus lies on apps designed for parents to remotely track the whereabouts of their child(ren). This particular case can be considered as one example of broader reflection on what continuous technical connectivity means in moral terms. Other-tracking apps give new ground to moral queries related to information technologies. Even though there is little doubt that parents might implement these technologies with good intention to extend care and responsibility over a distance, our concern is that they mistake control for care. This article seeks to demonstrate that a critical stance towards other-tracking by parents is required, because these apps raise a number of concerns that should be recognized as they are implemented. A number of moral critiques are expressed and discussed. These apps have the potential to engender a situation of 'over-proximity'. We analyse the utility of social capital for children’s achievement, and if this utility interacts with family human capital and the quality of the parent-child relationship. Our focus is on parental activities directly related to children’s school work. Our data stem from a Swedish cohort born in 1953 and consist of both survey and register data. We find that parents with more human capital tended to offer their children more social capital. OLS regressions showed that, when present, social capital was directly related to children’s grades and its utility for achievement did not depend on parents’ human capital. Maurice Merleau-Ponty (1908-1961) not only published in the fields of phenomenology, aesthetics, politics, and linguistics, but he also lectured as professor of child psychology, which resulted in several texts specifically devoted to the child. Most notably are the works "The Child's Relations to Others," Consciousness and the Acquisition of Language, and Child Psychology and Pedagogy: The Sorbonne Lectures, 1949-1952. And yet the question of the child occurs throughout his entire corpus. Thus, it is quite difficult to limit Merleau-Ponty's philosophy of childhood to one given text or theme, as his philosophy of childhood is the driving force behind his entire account of the self, others, and world in his philosophical project. The investigation of the child was not a phase of Merleau-Ponty's career; it was what guided his entire project. Merleau-Ponty is adamant, however, that his work in psychology and philosophy should not be viewed as separate projects. Rather, he repeatedly stresses an intertwining of philosophy and psychology, self and other, theory and praxis, and (like Freud) the lasting influence of childhood on adult life. In this vein, the following texts, both from his "philosophical" and "psychological" works, provide a sense of the significance the child plays in Merleau-Ponty's overarching project, particularly in his account of intersubjectivity and the parent-child relation. With a sample of 10,298 individuals who participated in three waves of interviews from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health conducted between 1994 and 2002, this study examines how exposure to community violence during adolescence could affect individual's subsequent engagement in civic activities during their young adulthood. Exposure to violence in the community during adolescence decreased the likelihood for a young adult to participate in volunteering for community services. A positive parent-child relationship would promote the likelihood for individual's civic engagement during young adulthood but there was no significant buffering effect from such relationship against the negative influence from violence exposure on young adults' civic engagement. An increasing body of transnational family literature finds that transnational family life challenges relationships between migrant parents and their children in the home country. However, transnational families are not uniform and function differently according to their specific characteristics. The aim of this study is to investigate how different factors are associated with the quality of parent–child relationships in transnational families. Based on an extensive literature review, five factors are found to be of special importance: gender of the migrant parent; contact and remittances; characteristics of the caregiver; length of separation; and the age of the child and age at separation. There is no quantitative evidence on the relationship between these factors, and how parents assess the relationship with their child in the origin country. This study uses survey data collected among 131 Angolan and 134 Nigerian migrant parents in The Netherlands with children in the country of origin in order to analyse these factors simultaneously. The study finds that contact and a good relationship between migrant parent and caregiver are important factors associated with good transnational parent–child relationships. However, important differences are found between Angolans and Nigerians, attesting to the importance of the characteristics of a particular migratory flow. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The current study examined whether having a positive maternal postpartum depression screening was associated with maternal report of poorer infant social–emotional development and more negative maternal report of parent–child interaction, and whether scores on a measure of maternal feelings of attachment influenced this relationship. Methods: Two hundred and thirty-two first-time mothers and their infants were assessed using self-reporting questionnaires when infants were 2 and 6 months of age. At 2 months, mothers were screened for postpartum depression and their feelings of attachment to their infants were also measured. At 6 months, mothers reported on infant social–emotional development and the parent–child interaction. Results: Findings revealed an association between having a positive screening for maternal depression at 2 months, and reports of both at-risk infant social–emotional development and parent–child dysfunctional interaction at 6 months. Further analyses indicated that maternal feelings of attachment mediated rather than moderated these relationships. Conclusions: These results suggest that the association of maternal postpartum depression with later child outcomes may be the result of the negative effects of maternal depression on maternal feelings of attachment to her infant. The purpose of this integrative review is to synthesize nursing scholarship on parent–child relationships considered fragile because of parent/child's chronic condition or occurrence within a risky context. CONCLUSIONS. Most reviewed studies demonstrated negative effects of risk conditions on parent–child relationships and documented importance of child, parent, and contextual variables. Studies were predominately single investigations. Varying theoretical perspectives complicated interpretation. Mainly White, middle-class, and small samples limited generalizability. Important areas for further research were identified. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS. Nurse researchers identified factors that may interfere with the parent–child relationship. PURPOSE. The purpose of this integrative review is to systematically and critically synthesize nursing scholarship on parents' perspectives of the parent–child relationship during infancy. CONCLUSION. Research has shown that the process of establishing the parent–child relationship is highly individualized and complex. Numerous barriers and facilitators influencing this relationship have been identified that are relevant to nursing. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS. Nurses have an important opportunity to positively affect the developing parent–infant relationship. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the family of origin on whether migrant and Dutch young adults live in the parental home. Using a sample of 1,678 young adults aged between 15 and 30 years from 847 families with five different ethnic backgrounds, we identified patterns of co-residence and investigated how and to what extent the likelihood of co-residence was influenced by migrant background, family ties, and the socio-economic characteristics of the family. The results show that of the four migrant groups, only Moroccan young adults are more likely than those of Dutch origin to live with their parents. For both migrant and Dutch young adults, family ties and the socio-economic characteristics of the family rather than an ethnic factor are the major influences on living arrangements. Objective: In previous studies, patients with different psychiatric conditions, as compared with matched controls, have reported that their parents were more protective and less caring towards them when they were children. However, studies investigating associations between parental behaviours and anxiety disorders have yielded inconsistent results. The aim of this study was to compare recalled parental behaviours in out-patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), in out-patients with panic disorder with agoraphobia (PDA), and in non-anxious controls. Method: The sample included 43 out-patients with OCD, 38 with PDA, and 120 controls. Participants completed the Parental Bonding Instrument and the Egna Minnen Beträffande Uppfostran or Own Memories of Parental Rearing Experiences in Childhood. Results: No differences were found between the two anxious groups. However, compared with the control group, anxious patients recalled their parents as more protective. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that child rearing practices such as overprotection may be a risk factor in the development of anxiety disorders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• The Ingersoll and Dvorstac's parent training program is a promising intervention for Iranian population. • Parents acquired skills of teaching social interactions to children with autism. • The acquired techniques were maintained over a three-month follow-up. • Parent training was effective on autism symptoms and developmental level. • Parent training was effective in decreasing parenting stress and increasing parents' quality of life. Today, early interventions to treat autistic children through parent training interventions is of outmost importance. Interventions are focused on developmental or behavioral approaches and are mostly individual or group ones. In the present study, both proposed approaches in the form of structured individual and group parent training sessions among Iranian families are investigated. This study was a randomized clinical trial which was performed in 2019–2020 in Tehran. Forty four 3–5 year-old children with autism participated in the study and were assigned to experimental (n = 22) and control (n = 22) groups through block randomization method. To evaluate the effectiveness of therapy on autism symptoms, Gilliam Autism Rating and Functional Emotional Assessment Scales were used. Also, Parenting Stress Index and Quality of Life Questionnaire were implemented to investigate the secondary effects of the therapy. After 12 therapy sessions, both groups took the posttest and 3 months later, follow up evaluations were performed. The treatment group manifested significant improvement regarding autism symptoms in both the posttest and follow up (ŋ2 =.77, P <.05) as well as Functional Emotional Development (ŋ2 =.62, P <.05). Comparing the means indicates that the experimental group mean score is significantly higher in quality of life and lower in parenting stress than the control group's. Parent training is effective on autism symptoms and functional emotional development. Regarding the fact that the follow-up phase coincided with Covid-19 pandemic and quarantine, it can be concluded that the therapy has been successful in maintaining the attained capabilities. Squamous odontogenic tumors (SOT) are rare, benign, odontogenic neoplasms of the jaws. The sporadically reported cases with multifocal SOTs seem to have a marked predilection for younger African American patients. In this case report a 14-year-old Caucasian male presented with swelling of the vestibular alveolar process, slight tooth divergence, and mobility. A multifocal squamous odontogenic tumor was diagnosed and subsequently treated twice with surgical enucleation. Two and a half years earlier his mother was diagnosed and treated for a similar multifocal SOT. Next-Generation-Sequencing targeted resequencing mutational analysis of the maternal surgical specimens was performed. No potential causal mutation could be identified. Postoperative follow-up of the patient showed no recurrence of the SOT after 2 years. This case report substantiates the possibility of a familial relationship in (multifocal) SOT, possibly changing current ideas concerning the etiology and treatment of these neoplasms., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Masson SAS.
