Mechthild of Hackeborn represents medieval mysticism. Her Revelations were written down in the 1290s in Helfta, Germany. The oldest surviving versions are in Latin, but in the Middle Ages, the Revelations were translated at least into Dutch, English, Swedish, and German. The text was translated into Swedish in 1469 by Jöns Budde, a Bridgettine brother from Naantali. Budde made few omissions but many additions in the text, mainly explanations to meet the needs of the Bridgettine sisters. Budde’s translation is faithful to the original text, and he made few mistakes. My Finnish translation of the text follows Budde’s version where possible. However, Budde translated an abridged version that omitted some chapters, and the only surviving copy of Budde’s translation is incomplete. I have therefore translated the missing sections from Latin and incorporated them in the text. My translation also includes editorial comments on the language, the contents, and the historical and theological contexts of the Revelations.

The topic of the book is the incremental growth of linguistic knowledge from lexical to structural-cum-textual during the so-called later language development. Language mastery does not presuppose any acquaintance with prescriptive grammar but, instead, concerns the core of language which the so-called consensus principle applies to: the most frequent words and structures are mastered with certainty by everybody, but uncertainty increases as less frequent and more variable phenomena are taken into consideration. It is the goal of the study to make explicit the knowledge that is common to school children of different age groups, and to show how it develops both in its core and in its fringe areas. The mastery of less common aspects exhibits considerable statistical variation. The research embodies methodological pluralism insofar as it has been carried out by means both of the corpus method and the experimental method. Here experimental subsumes writing tasks, paper-and-pencil tests, and behavior under experimental conditions. The amount of participants native in Finnish varies from 300–2000. The book has a bipartite structure: mastery of meanings (Part I), and mastery of forms (Part II).

This book presents a variety of different themes related to risks and risk management. The book consists of research papers aimed at supplementing and updating the topics discussed previously in risk management literature. The articles cover the key concepts and essence of risk and risk management, basic issues of security construction, risk awareness in corporate decision-making, reputation risk and its impact on business operations, social risks, their significance and the dimensions of social risk management. The last article presents the freely available RiskDemo software, which allows the reader to test and illustrate a wide range of risk features. The book aims to respond to the recent changes in the risk management environment as well as to stimulate academic debate on the subject., Tässä kirjassa esitellään monipuolisesti erilaisia riskeihin ja riskienhallintaan liittyviä teemoja. Kirja koostuu tutkimusartikkeleista, joiden tarkoituksena on täydentää ja ajantasaistaa riskienhallinnan perusteoksissa aiemmin käsiteltyjä aihealueita. Artikkeleissa käsitellään muun muassa riskien ja riskienhallinnan olemusta ja keskeisiä käsitteitä, turvan rakentamisen peruskysymyksiä, riskitietoisuutta johtamiseen liittyvässä päätöksenteossa, maineriskiä ja sen vaikutuksia yritysten liiketoimintaan, sosiaalisia riskejä, niiden yhteiskunnallista merkitystä sekä sosiaalisten riskien hallinnan ulottuvuuksia. Viimeinen artikkeli esittelee vapaasti saatavilla olevan RiskDemo-ohjelmiston, jonka avulla lukija voi halutessaan testata ja havainnollistaa monenlaisia riskien ominaisuuksia. Kirja pyrkii omalta osaltaan vastaamaan riskien ja riskienhallinnan toimintaympäristössä viime vuosien aikana tapahtuneisiin muutoksiin sekä virittämään akateemista keskustelua aiheesta.

The growth of cultural diversity in Finnish social and health care workplaces challenges to develop not only ways of working and interaction but also organizational structures. Work communities as a whole are facing new challenges. The aim of this book is to help work communities develop well-functioning practices for intercultural work. Effective interaction between cultures provides the foundation not only for the well-being of staff and customers, but also for the financial success of the organization. The paper presents five action studies in the social and health care organization, which analyzed the abrasion points of everyday interaction, developed functional practices and corrective measures, and evaluated the effects of interventions. The aim of the project was to bring about structural reforms in support of inter-cultural work, since only the changes would become permanent., Kulttuurisen monimuotoisuuden kasvu Suomen sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon työyhteisöissä haastaa kehittämään paitsi työskentely- ja vuorovaikutustapoja myös organisationaalisia rakenteita. Työyhteisöt kokonaisuudessaan ovat uusien haasteiden edessä. Tämän teoksen tavoitteena on auttaa työyhteisöjä kehittämään hyvin toimivia käytäntöjä kulttuurien välisen työn arkeen. Toimiva kulttuurien välinen vuorovaikutus luo pohjaa paitsi henkilöstön ja asiakkaiden hyvinvoinnille myös organisaation taloudelliselle menestymiselle. Teoksessa esitellään viidessä sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon organisaatiossa toteutettua toimintatutkimusta, jossa selvitettiin arjen vuorovaikutuksen hankauspisteitä, kehitettiin toimivia käytäntöjä ja korjaavia toimenpiteitä ja arvioitiin interventioiden vaikutuksia. Hankkeen tavoitteena oli saada aikaan kulttuurien välistä työtä tukevia rakenteellisia uudistuksia, sillä vain siten muutoksista tulee pysyviä.
