The article presents a study of the wilderness area of Mont-Tremblant, Québec, which forms part of the Laurentian mountains. The authors contrast the term "wilderness" to the term "wild nature." According to the authors, "wilderness" is a social construction that has increased in usage since the nineteenth century. The Mont-Tremblant area possesses several landscapes with separate yet shared identities and histories. Mont-Tremblant consists of a national park, ski and nature resort, and a village. The development of this natural area and its relationship to tourists from North America and elsewhere is described.
