The Szeletian site of Jezeřany III is situated in the eastern part of lithic exploitation area of Krumlovský les, with rich outcrops of Jurassic chert redeposited in miocene sands and detritic loams. The abundance of locally available raw material determines the petrographical and technological composition of the assemblage. Besides local chert (96%), the northern flint, radiolarite and spongolite are also present, all utilized mainly for the formal tools. In the final part of the paper the question of the independence and different origin of the Szeletian and socalled Bohunician is critically discussed. In short, rich outcrops of cherts at Stránská skála and of orthoquartzites on the Drahany Plateau were occupied by groups of knappers, mastering or preferring a late fusion of the Levallois and Upper Palaeolithic reduction methods, without necessarily being of anatomically modern origin and coming from the Near East. These "cultures" are not some natural entities existing independently of us, but are our constructs, created to facilitate communication. On the other hand, if we adhere to these placeholders more strictly (see the chronic inconsistency in the classification of collections between Szeletian and Bohunician), it is better to abolish them and consider them in broader terms.
