The algebra of noncommutative differential forms has been defined by A. Connes in [4]. Using this algebra, M. Karoubi has defined cyclic homology and Hochschild homology groups (see [13]). These groups are related to the algebraic K-theory. The purpose of this paper is to provide the noncommutative differential forms algebra with the structure of Gerstenhaber--Voronov algebras. This paper presents the research of conditions for introducing "algebra prior to letter". In this perspective we study the potential of certain categories of generalized situations. How can they promote algebraic thinking in elementary and junior high school classes before the introduction of algebraic symbolism? In this article we show the advantage of introducing a praxeological analysis to these situations by analyzing a situation of generalization in a 6th grade class in Quebec (12-year-old students). In [Breuil et Schneider, J. reine angew. Math. 610: 149–180, 2007] is formulated a conjecture on the equivalence of the existence of invariant norms on certain locally algebraic representations of GL
d+1 ( L) and the existence of certain de Rham representations of Gal(/ L), where L is a finite extension of ℚp . In this paper, we prove the “easy” direction of the conjecture: the existence of invariant norms implies the existence of admissible filtrations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Let
N be the set of positive integers andA a subset ofN . Forn∈N , letp(A,n) denote the number of partitions ofn with parts inA . In the paper J. Number Theory 73 (1998) 292, Nicolas et al. proved that, given anyN∈N andB⊂{1,2,…,N} , there is a unique setA=A0(B,N) , such thatp(A,n) is even forn>N . Soon after, Ben Saı¨d and Nicolas (Acta Arith. 106 (2003) 183) consideredσ(A,n)=∑d∣n,d∈Ad , and proved that for allk≥0 , the sequence(σ(A,2kn) mod 2k+1)n≥1 is periodic onn . In this paper, we generalise the above works for any formal power seriesf inF2[z] withf(0)=1 , by constructing a setA such that the generating functionfA ofA is congruent tof modulo 2, and by showing that iff=P/Q , whereP andQ are inF2[z] withP(0)=Q(0)=1 , then for allk≥0 the sequence(σ(A,2kn) mod 2k+1)n≥1 is periodic onn . Abstract: In this paper we define the notion of “graded algebra with symmetries”. This notion is a generalization of the extended differential forms. We prove that for a graded algebra with symmetries T, we associate a subalgebra which generalizes the noncommutative differential forms. Using this algebra , we can define the Hochschild and cyclic homologies, cup i-products and the Steenrod squares. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

MATRICES (Mathematics) , *ALGEBRA - Abstract
Given any commutative field
k, denoteR=Oq(Mn(k)) the coordinate ring of quantumn×n matrices overk and assumeq is a nonzero element ink which is not a root of unity. Recall thatR is generated byn2 variablesXi,α ((i,α)∈⟦1,n〉2) subject (only) to the following relations:If is anyx y z t 2×2 sub-matrix ofX=(Xi,α), then: (a)yx=q−1xy ,zx=q−1xz ,tz=q−1zt ,ty=q−1yt ,zy=yz; (b)tx=xt−(q−q−1)yz. Denote theR k -algebra generated by the same variablesXi,α subject to the same relations, except relations (b) which are replaced by: (c)tx=xt; so that is just the algebra of regular functions on some quantum affine space of dimensionR n2 overk. The theory of “derivative elimination” defines a natural embeddingϕ :Spec(R)→Spec( and asserts that:R ) In this paper, we give the precise description of the set- The “canonical image”
ϕ(Spec(R)) is a union of strataSpecw( (in the sense of [Goodearl, Letzter, in: CMS Conf. Proc., Vol. 22 (1998) 39–58]), whereR )w describes some subsetW ofP(⟦1,n〉2) .- The sets
Specw(R):=ϕ−1(Specw( R ))(w∈W) define the Goodearl–LetzterH -stratification ofSpec(R) in the sense of [Goodearl, Letzter, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 352 (2000) 1381–1403].W and we compute its cardinality. Using that description and the derivative elimination algorithm, we can verify (Theorems 6.3.1, 6.3.2) thatH -Spec(R) has anH -normal separation (in the sense of [Goodearl, in: Lecture Notes in Pure and Appl. Math. 210 (2000) 205–237]), so thatSpec(R) has normal separation (in the sense of [Brown, Goodearl, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 348 (1996) 2465–2502]). This property was conjectured by K. Brown and K. Goodearl. SinceR is Auslander–Regular and Cohen–Macaulay, this implies (by [Goodearl, Lenagan, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 111 (1996) 123–142]) thatR is catenary and satisfies the Tauvel''s height formula. International audience; In my paper at Inventiones 2009, we determine the cohomology of Lubin-Tate spaces globally using the comparison theorem of Berkovich by computing the fibers at supersingular points of the perverse sheaf of vanishing cycle Ψ of some Shimura variety of Kottwitz-Harris-Taylor type. The most difficult argument deals with the control of maps of the spectral sequences computing the sheaf cohomology of both Harris-Taylor perverse sheaves and those of Ψ. Even if many researches deal with validity, especially in psychometrics, this notion hasn’t been significantly discussed in the field of didactics of mathematics. This paper examines how didactics tools, especially a priori analysis of tasks, can be used to bring validity evidence in addition to those provided by psychometrics. A first part of the paper aims to expose a methodology, using a combination of didactic and psychometric approaches, to analyze and design external assessment tests. In a second part, we implement this methodology to study two national large scale assessments, in two mathematical domains at two levels of school (arithmetic at the end of primary school and algebra at the end of grade 9), in France., Embora o conceito de validade seja objeto de muitas investigações, particularmente no campo da psicometria, não foi ainda muito estudado no quadro da didática das matemáticas.

Abstract: This paper is devoted to characterizations of the (reduced) Burau representation of the Artin braid group, in terms of rigid local systems. We prove that the Burau representation is the only representation of the Hecke algebra for which some local system associated to every linear representation of the braid group is irreducible and rigid in the sense of Katz. We also use previous results to give a characterization of the corresponding Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov system. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Based on the framework of meta-didactic transposition analysis (Arzarello et al., 2014) and specifically the concepts of brokering and boundary object, this paper studies how knowledge to teach algebra is exchanged during a training program involving nine mathematics teachers and two researchers specialised in algebra teaching and learning. Organized in three half-day sessions, this program is based on a problem pointed out in the research literature as particularly rich to develop algebraic thinking. In addition, the materials used in training are come directly from the classes of the teachers participating in the program. In this sense, the program values knowledge that makes sense in both research and teaching practice. The analysis of interactions between researchers and teachers highlights three types of collaborative activities between the two groups and thus questions the potential of such a mechanism to foster integration of research results by teachers.

Ordinary Timed Event Graphs (TEG) have a linear transfer relation in some dioid algebras. These transfer relations can be described thanks to ultimately periodic formal series which have a graphicalZ 2 description. Firstly, this paper aims at carrying out a similar repre- sentation for Generalized TEG (GTEG), i.e. TEG with multipliers. The representation requires an additional dimension that reflects the gain of these systems, the latter being algebraically modelled by the introduction of new operators. This graphical representation is a natural ex- tension of the one used for ordinary TEG. Secondly, this paper shows that for GTEG having a property of periodicity, it is possible to consider the residuation theory so as to compute some control laws.

The paper can be regarded as a short and informal introduction to noncommutative calculi of probability. The standard theory of probability is reformulated in the algebraic language. In this form it is readily generalized to that its version which is virtually present in quantum mechanics, and then generalized to the so-called free theory of probability. Noncommutative theory of probability is a pair (M, φ) where M is a von Neumann algebra, and φ a normal state on M which plays the role of a noncommutative probability measure. In the standard (commutative) theory of probability, there is, in principle, one mathematically interesting probability measure, namely the Lebesgue measure, whereas in the noncommutative theories there are many nonequivalent probability measures. Philosophical implications of this fact are briefly discussed.

International audience; In the vast movement of appropriation, by Europe, of the sciences of Islamic countries, algebra holds an important position. In particular, al-Khwârizmî's Mukhtasar, a text published in Baghdad between 813 and 833 and considered the official birth of the discipline, was several times translated into Latin and vernacular languages. In this paper, we return briefly to the historiography of the Arab-Latin translations/versions of al-Khwârizmî's text to present and discuss both the content and the form (with paleographic and editorial data) of one of these versions: the Liber restauracionis [Book of Restoration]. We then attempt, in a mathematical and historical analysis, to highlight the elements of continuity and rupture between this text and the al-Khwarizmian algebraic tradition in order to present our hypotheses about the context of its composition. Our contribution ends with the first modern translation (in French) of the text we have studied.; Dans le vaste mouvement dappropriation, par l'Europe, des sciences des pays dIslam, lalgèbre occupe une place non négligeable.

We study the geometry and the cohomology of the tamely ramified cover of Drinfeld’s p-adic symmetric space over a p-adic field K. For this tame level, we prove, in a purely local way, most of a conjecture of Harris on the form of the $$\ell $$ -adic cohomologies, as well as the torsion freeness of the integral cohomology. In this paper, we also compute the $$\ell $$ -adic cohomology of Coxeter Deligne–Lusztig variety associated to $$\mathrm{GL}_d,$$ and some results of independent interest on the coefficient systems over the Bruhat–Tits building associated to $$\mathrm{GL}_d(K)$$ have been established.

International audience; After having pointed out that the difficulty in reading contemporary formalisms lies in the fact that they combine algebraic and geometric dimensions in their written form, this paper – which aims to question the merits of a number of dichotomies (visual versus oral reading, doing vs. saying ...) which are usually referred to in describing the specificity of formal writings – first focuses on the practice of mathematicians, which was at the origin of the creation of this type of writing, in order to highlight different facets of mathematical doing in the fields of activity where a formalism occurs, and argues that these doings are usually interlaced with a saying.

Euclid’s lemma can be derived from the algebraic gcd property, but it is not at all apparent that Euclid himself does this. We would be quite surprised if he didn’t use this property because he points it out early on and because we expect him to make use of the Euclidean algorithm in some significant way. In this paper, we explore the question of just how the algebraic gcd property enters into Euclid’s proof, if indeed it does. Central to Euclid’s development is the idea of four numbers being proportional: a is to b as c is to d. Euclid gives two different definitions of proportionality, one in Book VII for numbers (“Pythagorean proportionality”) and one in Book V for general magnitudes (“Eudoxean proportionality”). We will discover that it is essential to keep in mind the difference between these two definitions and that many authorities, possibly including Euclid himself, have fallen into the trap of believing that Eudoxean proportionality for numbers is easily seen to be the same as Pythagorean proportionality. Finally, we will suggest a way to make Euclid’s proof good after 2300 years.

Even though many researchers were involved into scientific reflections on these tools and their diagnostic value, the impact of the contents specifically assessed has not been really considered. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of this aspect through the analysis of a tool related to elementary algebra. While extending the general findings arising from the tool as intended by the authors in the competency-based approach, the results confront the strategies adopted by students when dealing with the different tasks proposed. Beside the specific results to tested task, the paper intends to show the added value of this integrated approach to the competence assessment issue., A Federação Valónia-Bruxelas coloca à disposição dos professores instrumentos de avaliação sucetíveis de diagnosticar a capacidade dos alunos para mobilizar e combinar, em situação inédita, um conjunto de procedimentos aprendidos.

We give a proof and extension of two formulas of Frobenius and Stickelberger of Differential Calculus that they used in a fundamental paper concerning elliptic functions theory. Our main ingredient is the introduction of a bilinear form which is a vast generalization of Leibniz formula. This bilinear form is also connected to the Lagrange product formula. As a corollary, we give a different proof of a theorem of P.J. Olver., 26 pages, in French

Let S be a finite set of primes, p in S, and Q_S a maximal algebraic extension of Q unramified outside S and infinity. Assume that |S|>=2. We show that the natural maps Gal(Q_p^bar/Q_p) --> Gal(Q_S/Q) are injective. Much of the paper is devoted to the problem of constructing selfdual automorphic cuspidal representations of GL(2n,A_Q) with prescribed properties at all places, that we study via the twisted trace formula of J. Arthur. The techniques we develop shed also some lights on the orthogonal/symplectic alternative for selfdual representations of GL(2n)., 50 pages, french. Section 4.18 has been extended : let F be a totally real field and \pi a selfdual cuspidal automorphic representation of GL(2n,A_F) which is cohomological at all the archimedean places and discrete at a finite place at least, we show that for each place v the L-parameter of \pi_v preserves a non-degenerate symplectic pairing

What did "algebra" mean before the development of the algebraic theories of the 20th century ? This paper stresses the identities taken by the algebraic practices developped during the century long discussion around the equation around the equation of secular inequalities (1766- 1874). In 1874, a strong controversy on the theory of bilinear and quadratic forms opposed Camille Jordan and Leopold Kronecker. The arithmetical ideal of Kronecker faced Jordan's claim for the simplicity of his algebraic canonical form. As the controversy combined mathematical and historical arguments, it gave rise to the writing of a history of the methods used by Lagrange, Laplace and Weierstrass in a century long mathematical discussion around the "equation of secular inequalities"., Comment: Il s'agit d'une version pr\'e publication ant\'erieure de plusieurs mois \`a la version publi\'ee (r\'ef\'erence jointe). This paper answers a question of Clozel and Ullmo, showing that certain sequences of adelically-defined probability measures defined on an adelic quotient of a solvable group converge to the uniform measure on that quotient. This turns out to depend on any non-trivial estimate for classical Kloosterman sums. At the end, a “horizontal” analogue of the problem is stated and solved using a result of Duke, Friedlander and Iwaniec.

In this paper, we propose a method of specific Correspondence Analysis which allows to treat questionnaires when some responses are missing, and thus to free oneself from the yoke of complete disjunctive encoding. The method of specific analysis is presented within the general framework of Geometric Data Analysis for a Euclidean cloud, then particularized to multinumerical protocols and to questionnaires. We show that, in this approach, beweighted Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is privileged and that Multiples Correspondence Analysis (MCA) is equivalent to a biweighted PCA on indicator variables. Finally, we compare the specific analysis to the conventional one by writing inequalities between eigenvalues and studying the rotation of principal subspaces when one goes from the global analysis to the specific one.
