Mediation - a unifying term for some and a catch-all for others - designates a number of activities that facilitate the interaction of users with library collections. For heritage libraries located in university settings, this mission requires a large body of documents because the collections themselves constitute an object of study. Deemed ⪡unnatural⪢ mediation became necessary in order to re-establish a relationship with the heritage because this relationship was fractured by a number of events in the history of Québec. To be interested in mediation requires that one be interested in the context that gave rise to its development and to explore a new form of culture with a given population, its codes and its territory. It also invites one to explore the different paths that heritage can take and to reflect on its many functions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
