Abstract

Introduction: Dermal lipomatous metaplasia is a particular histological presentation characterized by the presence of mature fat cells in the dermis. It is found in the tissue stroma of certain skin tumours and in a single reported case of psoriasis, imparting an orange-yellow tint. Herein we report a second case of this type., Patients and Methods: An 82-year-old woman was consulting for an extensive, rapidly spreading psoriasis flare-up that had appeared 3 months earlier. Her psoriasis had been present for 30 years and had rarely been treated. The clinical examination revealed orange-yellow patches, either alone or mixed with psoriasis plaques. The laboratory lipid balance was without abnormalities. Protein electrophoresis revealed chronic inflammation. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry findings supported the diagnosis of dermal lipomatous metaplasia. Acitretin 20mg/day produced marked improvement in the rash within one month., Conclusion: Dermal lipomatous metaplasia is a highly specific and rare entity that should be considered where orange-yellow lesions are seen., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS. Abstract

Introduction: The objective of this manuscript is to examine the prevalence of youth exposed to second-hand smoke (SHS) in homes and cars, changes in SHS exposure over time, and factors associated with beliefs youth hold regarding SHS exposure among a nationally representative sample of Canadian youth., Methods: Descriptive analysis of SHS exposure in homes and cars was conducted using data from the Canadian Youth Smoking Survey (2004, 2006 and 2008). Logistic regression was conducted to examine factors associated with beliefs youth had about SHS exposure in 2008., Results: In 2008, 21.5% of youth reported being exposed to SHS in their home on a daily or almost daily basis, while 27.3% reported being exposed to SHS while riding in a car at least once in the previous week. Between 2004 and 2008, the prevalence of daily SHS exposure in the home and cars decreased by 4.7% and 18.0% respectively., Conclusion: Despite reductions in SHS exposure over time, a substantial number of Canadian youth continue to be exposed to SHS in homes and cars. Further effort is required to implement and evaluate policies designed to protect youth from SHS.

Abstract

Introduction: Fundamental research identified new therapy targets implicated in tumor proliferation and angiogenesis which lead to the development of several targeted therapies. Currently, three drugs are used in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer, cetuximab and panitumumab, two anti epidermal growth factor receptor, and bevacizumab, an anti vascular endothelial growth factor., Patients and Methods: We evaluated a treatment with oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy (Folfox7 regimen) and bevacizumab in patients with locally advanced and/or metastatic colorectal cancer. Objectives of the study are the evaluation of the efficacy, toxicity, progression free survival, overall survival and tumor cell expression of the vascular endothelial growth factor by immunochemistry., Results: 47 patients are included in the study during the period between April 2005 and June 2007; 28 men and 19 women. After six cycles of treatment, we achieved 67.3% of objectives responses and 76% of tumor control. The median progression free survival evaluated was 12 months (9.3-14.6 months) and median overall survival 18 months (9-26.9 months). The immunochemistry study of 46 tumours of the study achieved the following results: 13% (0), 17.4% (1+), 23.9% (2+) and 45.7% (3+). A correlation between the vascular endothelial growth factor expression, therapeutic responses and survival has been demonstrated but the difference was not significant in term of survival. Both chemotherapy toxicity and bevacizumab related toxicity are acceptable in our study., Conclusion: The fact that vascular endothelial growth factor expression is common in more than 80% of colorectal cancers, lead to recommend the systematic use of bevacizumab with chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer.
