Eponyms are used almost daily in the clinical practice of dermatology. And yet, information about the person behind the eponyms is difficult to find. Indeed, who is? What is this person's nationality? Is this person alive or dead? How can one find the paper in which this person first described the disease? Eponyms are used to describe not only disease, but also clinical signs, surgical procedures, staining techniques, pharmacological formulations, and even pieces of equipment. In this article we present the symptoms starting with (E). The symptoms and their synonyms, and those who have described this symptom or phenomenon.

von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL) is a rare, genetic multi-system disorder characterized by the abnormal growth of tumors in certain parts of the body (angiomatosis). The tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) are benign and are comprised of a nest of blood vessels and are called hemangioblastomas. Hemangioblastomas may develop in the brain, the retina of the eyes, and other areas of the nervous system. Other types of tumors develop in the adrenal glands, the kidneys, or the pancreas. Symptoms of VHL vary among patients and depend on the size and location of the tumors. Symptoms may include headaches, problems with balance and walking, dizziness, weakness of the limbs, vision problems, and high blood pressure. Cysts (fluid-filled sacs) and/or tumors (benign or cancerous) may develop around the hemangioblastomas and cause the symptoms listed above. Individuals with VHL are also at a higher risk than normal for certain types of cancer, especially kidney cancer. Introduction: Skin inflammation in the foot soldiers is a major problem, affecting armies around the world. Hence it is important preventive action, to prevent the development of such states. Antiseptic is the destruction of microorganisms present in the tissues by means of antiseptic.Aim: The effectiveness of the use Pigmentum Castelani and Kalium hypermanganicum in the prevention of skin inflammation in the foot soldiers.Material and methods: The study included 30 men middle-aged men 20.5 years and 60 soldiers, as a control group of men with a mean age 21.5 years. The survey was conducted over a period of 3 months. Of the 30 soldiers from the study group in 15 using liquid Pigmentum Castelani - Group I, and in another 15 people a solution of Kalium hypermanganicum - group II. Prophylactic treatment of soldiers received by a certain pattern. The control group was 60 men received no treatment. The observations were performed during clinical examination of foot skin, mycological examination and examination under Wood's lamp.Results: None of the 30 seamen (group I and II test), there was no bacterial or fungal infection of the feet. In the control group were diagnosed 11 cases of athlete's foot feet (64.71% of cases), 3 cases of fungal infection of the back foot (17.65%) and 3 cases pitted keratolysis (17.65% of cases).Conclusions: Prophylactic Pigmentum Castelani and Kalium hypermanganicum effectively protects against the development of inflammatory skin feet. This is reflected in the increase in disposal and good health for the soldier.

Nail changes can accompany many systemic diseases and very often indicate the ongoing systemic process of illness. The yellow nail syndrome (YNS) is very rare clinical entity characterized by marked thickening and yellow to yellow-green discoloration of the nails. Congenitally hypoplastic lymphostasis plays a major role in the clinical manifestation of that disease. Syndrome includes pleural effusions, lymphedema and yellow dystrophic nails. The pathogenesis stays still unknown.Aim: Presentation the coexistence of YNS with the systemic symptoms by analyzing cases of 3 patients.Material and methods: The analysis involved 3 patients with YNS (2 women and 1 man) aged from 43 to 48 years.Results: We confirmed 3 cases of YNS, with the characteristic nails changes (yellow-greenish discoloration, absence of lunula, etc.). None of the patients had a family history of YNS. All suffered from chronic diseases: the first patient suffered from lymphedema and diabetes mellitus, second - from rheumatoid arthritis and the third complained of a chronic caught and sinusitis. All YNS`s symptoms occurred in the patients` forties. We observed fingers and toes involvement on 7-8 nails in each patient.Conclusions: The YNS offen associated with systemic disease, most commonly lymphedema and bronchiectasis. However, the literature describes some connections with carcinoma and autoimmune diseases. Therefore, each patient with YNS should be examined for cancer detection and stay under periodic medical control.

Folliculitis caused by Malassezia spp. classified as yeasts in our climate (Poland) is fairly rare disease . MF is most commonly found on the chest, back, upper arms, and less frequently on the face. Permanent symptom is persistent itching. The favorable external conditions, which are largely due to high temperature and humidity, and endogenous factors, such as immunosuppression, there is a lipophilic yeast multiplication in the hair follicles. The aim of this article is presentation of the patient with Malassezia Folliculitis on the neck. Patient age 33 with 1- to 2-mm monomorphic papules and pustules on chest. Skin lesions accompanied by itching. In the treatment used topical: ketoconazole containing shampoo, 1% clindamycin cream, 0,5% hydrocortisonum cream, fluconazole 400 mg once p.o.

Background: Corynebacterial infection is a common condition in soldiers. Pitted keratolysis (PK), a bacterial infection confined to the plantar stratum corneum, does not severely impede patient activity but can be unpleasant and embarrassing because of its ‘‘rotten’’ odor. The incidence of PK in soldiers has been reported to be between 1,5% and 77.1%. Erythrasma is a superficial infection caused by Corynebacterium minutissimum and affects the major skin folds and the interdigital regions of the feet. It is characterized by erythematous, brown, scaly patches and maceration, and exhibits coral-red fluorescence under Wood light. Trichomycosis axillaris (TMA) is caused by the Corynebacterium tenuis. Patients affected by trichomycosis axillaris present with complaints of a disagreeable underarm odor and a history of hyperhidrosis and poor hygiene. Examination reveals the underarm hair to be coated with black, yellow-white or reddish deposits.Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the frequency corynebacterium triad in soldiers (pitted keratolysis, erythrasma, trichomycosis axillaris)Methods: The study involved 1694 men, soldiers in age about 23 years, (in period 5 months (-8-12.2008)). 103 persons, whose dermatologic symptoms/changes were analysed, were qualified for the research. Reconnaissance put on base of characteristic clinical sign and under Wood light.Results: Incidence of PK observed at 103 patients (which make up 6,08% of 1694 soldiers). EA diagnosed at 15 soldiers (14,56% of 103 patients), and TMA was diagnosed of 3 patients (2,91% of 103 patients). The coexistence are summarized as follows: erythrasma and PK; 15 of 103 patients (14,56%), TMA and PK in 3 of 103 patients (2,91%). The coexistence of rythrasma, TMA, and PK was noted in 1 patients (0,97%).Conclusions: Corynebacterial infection is a common condition in soldiers. In most cases/most often development of PK is observed. Our results demonstrate that either erythrasma or TMA can be associated with PK. We suggest that a closer, wider inspection is required to rule out the coexistence of the other. corynebacterial infections (Erythrasma, TMN) when a dermatologist encounters PK.

Bowen Disease is squamous cell carcinoma in situ in which the basement membrane is intact on histopathology. Lesions are usually solitary but may be multiple in 10-20 percent of cases. It typically presents as an erythematous enlarging plaque having irregular borders with scaling and crusting. The lesions may be fissured or verrucous or, rarely, pigmented. Ulceration may occur and is often a sign that invasive disease is developing. The risk of progression of Bowen disease to invasive carcinoma is about 3%. Bowen disease is most commonly found in patients over 60 years old. Oher risk factors: include chronic sun exposure, immunosuppression, arsenic exposure and cutaneous human papillomavirus (HPV- 16, 18, 34 i 48) infection.The majority of cases of Bowen disease revealed a peculiar dermoscopic pattern characterized by glomerular vesselsProliferation of numerous atypical keratinocytes throughout the entire thickness of the epidermis with hyperkeratosis, mitotic figures, multinucleated cells and dyskeratotic cells, full thickness dysplasia of the squamous epithelum, disorderly maturation of the epidermis, parakeratosis and loss of granular layer.

Heck's disease (focal epithelial hyperplasia) (FEH) is clinically characterized by multiple circumscribed, soft elevated nodules of the oral mucosa. Papules and plaques are usually the color of normal mucosa, but may be pale or, rarely, white. Disease may persist for years, producing a significant reduction in quality of life. Lessions may be located in the area of mucous membranes of the lips, cheeks and tongue. It is believed that the two virus types are responsible for the FEH, are: HPV 13 and HPV 32. Different therapeutic procedures have been reported: surgical excision, laser ablation, cryotherapy, electrocauterization, interferon, retinoic acid, 5% immiquimod.
