The present paper explores various issues related to the use of the graphic novel as an educational tool, within the paradigms of formative assessment, through an experiment carried out in English and Portuguese at Aix-Marseille University. In a graphic novel, linguistic phenomena can be studied in a narrative context, and more easily memorized thanks to iconography. Since the graphic novel is mainly the autobiographical expression of a given space and time, it seems natural to use – besides active learning methods – a strategy based on a comparison between what can be regarded as the norm and various speech registers which are to be found in abundance in this medium, such as oral discourse and dated expressions.

A noção de presença provoca um intenso debate no campo das artes cênicas atuais. Este texto apresenta um panorama das teorias recentes e propõe uma abordagem ao estudo da presença sob o prisma das epistemologias das práticas do corpo e do gesto, bem como da noção de afeto (Massumi, 1995; 2015). A análise do espetáculo Ouverture Alcina, um solo da companhia italiana Teatro delle Albe, faz uma releitura da presença como restituição de um trabalho físico, performativo e composicional, um dispositivo de construção de um discurso político através da experiência perceptiva do espectador.

Over the past few years, several Western countries have witnessed the emergence of populist political formations. The article situates these developments in the context of the post-2008 recession austerity politics, and argues that the emergence of populist platforms reflects a 'crisis of hegemony' of the neoliberal paradigm of capital accumulation that had dominated Western capitalist societies since the mid-1970s. Focusing specifically on recent developments in the United States under Trump’s presidency, the article argues that we might be entering an age of 'authoritarian neoliberalism' in which capital accumulation is sustained less through consensus and more through coercion—namely, in the form of increasing criminalization, discipline, and surveillance of “undeserving” social groups.

At present, development of plasma assisted ignition and combustion is a very promising research area due to its wide applications in the field of aeronautical engines and power sector. Plasma discharge can improve the combustion because it produces large number of chemically active particles which affects the chemical reaction. Simulation is an effective tool to analyze the interaction between the plasma and the flame through the implementation of plasma-assisted combustion. This study focused on three main objectives. Initially a microscopic plasma model with detailed kinetic plasma mechanisms was developed, then the validation of these mechanisms in air/methane mixture has been performed. Finally, the effects of nano pulsed plasma discharge on combustion have been investigated. In order to accomplish the above task, two numerical tools Chemical Kinetic Solver (CHEMKIN) and Plasma Kinetic Solver (ZDPlasKin) are used. It was found that the kinetic model of plasma provides good overall agreement with experimental data and identify key processes for species (e.g. O atom) generation and decay. The results showed that with the increase of reduced electric field, active particles and intermediate species/radicals (in particular ozone) are increased. ZDPlasKin results were incorporated in CHEMKIN to investigate and compare the flame speed, thermal and chemical effect by using a GRI-Mech scheme modified with the addition of ozone reactions. It has been found that with the adding of plasma flame speed was increased up to 26% at stoichiometric ratio. The chemical heat release also showed increment at low temperatures that confirmed the combustion enhancement. Furthermore, ignition delay timings were significantly reduced with the plasma excitation.

This work focuses on the development of a multiscale computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation framework for the investigation of the effects of plasma kinetics on the performance of a microscale dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuator (DBD-PA). To this purpose, DBD-PA multi-scale dual-step modelling approach has been implemented, by considering plasma chemistry and flow dynamic. At first, a microscopic plasma model based on the air plasma kinetics has been defined and plasma reactions have been simulated in zero-dimensional computations in order to evaluate the charge density. At this aim computations have been performed using the toolbox ZDPlasKin, which solves plasma reactions by means of Bolsig+ solver. An alternate current (AC) electrical feeding has been assumed: in particular, the sinusoidal voltage amplitude and the frequency have been fixed at 5 kV and 1 kHz at atmospheric pressure and 300 K temperature in quiescent environment. The predictal charge density has been in a macroscopic plasma-fluid model based on Suzen Dual Potential Model (DPM), which has implemented in the computation fluid dynamic CFD code OpenFoam. Hence, as second step, 2D-CFD simulations of the electro-hydrodynamic body forces induced by the microscale DBDPA have been performed, based on the previously predicted charge densities at the operating conditions. Quiescent flow over a dielectric barrier discharge actuator has been simulated using the plasma-fluid model. The novel modelling framework has been validated with experimental data.

El pasado reciente en el Cono Sur ha sido rememorado e interpretado desde diversos ejes de memoria. En el Uruguay de los últimos años, han emergido los relatos de las militantes, en dialogo y en disputa a la vez, con el relato hegemónico de los varones y su resistencia heroica. En general estas narrativas se han anclado en las “historias mínimas”, la cotidianeidad, el espacio privado (de la cárcel) y en el relato desde “lo femenino”, que osciló entre la presentación de un modo de resistencia diferencial reivindicando la agencia de las mujeres, al relato de la peripecia de la cárcel a través de la experiencia de la maternidad en la prisión. Este artículo pretende analizar dos relatos publicados con dos décadas de distancia: Mi habitación, mi celda (1990) de Lilián Celiberti y Lucy Garrido, y Maternidad en prisión política (2010) coordinado por Graciela Jorge, con el objetivo principal de analizar la apuesta política de sus autoras. El primero es el encuentro de dos mujeres con pasados inmediatos y trayectorias políticas distintas, pero embarcadas en un nuevo proyecto político común: el feminismo. El segundo es el encuentro de varias mujeres provenientes de la izquierda armada que inscriben su peripecia en el relato mayor del colectivo de pertenencia. En este sentido el artículo propone reflexionar sobre las distintas funcionalidades que tuvieron los trabajos de la memoria realizados por mujeres, cuánto visibilizaron un nuevo sujeto o cuánto reubicaron a la mujer en su rol tradicional, es decir, en qué medida las narrativas del pasado, permitieron o no dar nuevas batallas a futuro. The aim of this study is to investigate the performance of dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuators (DBD-PAs) applied to control the aeroelastic response of a compressor cascade in subsonic flow conditions. Simulations involve a cascade composed by 7-blade, 3 of which show a not-synchronous pitching behaviour. Two different inter blade phase angle (IBPA) have been tested and compared. Actuators capabilities in terms of load alleviation and instability control have been evaluated through the measurement of mean value, standard deviation and hysteresis area of the airfoil response in terms of lift and moment coefficients.

The present work provides a numerical investigation of the supersonic flow inside a planar micronozzle configuration under different gas rarefaction conditions. Two different propellants have been considered, namely water vapor and nitrogen, which relate to their use in VLMs (the former) and cold gas microthrusters (the latter), respectively. Furthermore, two different numerical approaches have been used due to the different gas rarefaction regime, i.e. the typical continuum Navier–Stokes with partial slip assumption at walls and the particle–based Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) technique. As a result, under high–pressure operating conditions, both water and nitrogen flows supersonically expanded into the micronozzle without chocking in combination with a linear growth of the boundary layer on walls. However, when low–pressure operating condition are imposed and a molecular regime is established inside the micronozzle, a very rapid expansion occurred close to the nozzle exit in combination with a strong chocking of the flow and a micronozzle quality reduction of about 40%. Furthermore, water exhibited specific higher specific impulse than nitrogen above 60%.

Dynamic aeroengine model plays a key role in the design of engine control systems. Moreover, modelling of the engine using performance simulations is an important step in the design process in order to reduce costs, decrease risks and shortening development period. Parameters such as engine spool speeds, vibration, oil temperature, exhaust gas temperature, and fuel flow are often used to estimate performance in gas turbine engines. In this study, two artificial neural network methods were used for the prediction, under transient operations, of one of the most important engine parameters, the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT). The data used for model training are time series datasets of several different flight missions, which have been created using a gas path analysis, and that allow to simulate the engine transient behaviour. The study faces the challenge of setting up a robust and reliable Nonlinear Input-Output (NIO) and a Nonlinear AutoRegressive with eXog nous inputs (NARX) models, by means of a good selection of training. At the end of the study, two network that predicts the engine EGT in transient operations with the smallest error have been identified.

In this paper an integrated heath monitoring platform is proposed and developed for performance analysis and degradation diagnostics of gas turbine engines. In a first approach the numerical tool is able to predict engine measurable data from flight data, in order to create a dataset of expected values. Then, in the case of a mismatch between expected values and measured data coming from a real engine, a second part of the tool can be activated to detect the component under degradation. In order to evaluate the performance prediction artificial neural networks (ANN) have been implemented. The tool is able to recognize the degradation due to compressor fouling and turbine erosion. Synthetic data generation has been carried out to show how the degradation effects can affect the engine performance. The used data have been generated with a model based on gas path analysis. The training of the model is focused on components deterioration due to a combination of fouling and erosion. Different scenarios have been compared in order to carry out a sensitivity analysis and to choose the best parameters for the network input and output. Obviously the knowledge of the real engine health status can be crucial for maintenance and fleet management decisions.

Memory, ideas, the presence of Rome are all constructions of an observer. The middle ages and the Renaissance, the classical and the romantic age have always constructed their own and different images of Rome. The realities of Rome are the realities of these constructions. To remember something is not the same as memory. To remember something is just the one side of a difference by which memory works. Also Rome had its memory, a memory which obviously was already at work in order to allow Rome to become able to recognize herself as such. By its memory the city continuously updated and confirmed its identity, i.e. reproduced its own difference. The fiction of origin, legitimated by supremacy, connected this supremacy to its original nature. And the mythology of origin served as a plausible fundament for the selfdescription of the city as the image of the world, its order, magnitude and harmony. The world belongs to the city – which means the paradox of inclusion – and is at the same time outside the city. It remains hidden that the other side is included, because the other side is excluded. The paradox requires that this asymmetric relation remains existing and always reproduced. The paradox of inclusion is fundamental for the supremacy of the city over the world. And the medium of this supremacy is called power. The evolution of memory is the evolution of power in supremacy.

Este artigo delineia alguns aspectos das estratégias discursivas adotadas por Thomas Hanna para legitimar a Somática – assim como seu próprio método – aos olhos da comunidade científica. A noção de soma e as representações de suas funções serão reconhecidas no âmago desta questão. Para enfatizar o persistente risco de dogmatismo da retórica científica, assim como sua influência na configuração de discursos somáticos, recorre-se principalmente à epistemologia radical de Isabelle Ginot e à perspectiva crítica de Martha Eddy.

This article outlines some features of the discursive strategies adopted by Thomas Hanna in order to legitimate Somatics – as well as his own method – in the eyes of the scientific community. The notion of soma and the representations of its functions will be recognized at the core of this issue. In order to stress the enduring risk of dogmatism of the scientific rhetoric to our days, as well as their influence on the configuration of somatic discourses, I will be mainly referring to Isabelle Ginot’s radical epistemology and Martha Eddy’s critical perspective.

En América Latina, en la década del 60 múltiples organizaciones surgieron o se transformaron en aras de una profunda transformación política y social. Un importante contingente de personas pasó a dedicar gran parte de su vida a la militancia guiado por el espíritu de construcción del hombre nuevo. Sin embargo, a pesar de las generalizaciones que se suelen realizar, no todas las militancias se configuraron a partir de los mismos códigos de pertenencia. Este trabajo pretende mostrar cómo dos organizaciones de izquierda opuestas en términos ideológicos fueron habitadas por quienes construyeron trayectorias militantes también en términos antagónicos. Un repertorio de valores y prácticas políticas nos permite hacer inteligible distintas formas de militar en la izquierda y comprender este proceso en el marco de una disputa cultural.
