Introduction. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in adults (MIS-A) is a rare but potentially life-threatening sequel of SARS-CoV-2 infection, requiring early recognition and treatment. Nevertheless, it is often hard to distinguish MIS-A from other COVID-19-related hyperinflammatory complications. Case presentation. A 74-year-old male presented to the emergency department with persistent fever, diarrhea, altered consciousness, polymorphous rash with oral lesions and erythema of the palms and soles, with progressive exfoliation. The patient had been hospitalized for COVID-19 four weeks before and was suffering from chronic lymphocytic leukemia, diabetes and hypertension. During his recent hospital stay he received multiple courses of antibiotics and was discharged home with instructions to add sitagliptin and re-initiate therapy with ibrutinib. Upon re-admission, polymerase chain reaction test for SARS-CoV-2 was still positive and inflammatory markers were markedly elevated. Although MIS-A could not be excluded, a presumptive diagnosis of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) was made, and the patient was treated empirically with intravenous immunoglobulin and high-dose methylprednisolone. SJS is usually considered an adverse drug reaction that affects the skin and mucous membranes. In this patient, MIS-A was also initially included in the differential diagnosis due to previous COVID-19, despite the patient’s advanced age and lack of cardiac involvement or conjunctivitis. The patient only partially fulfilled current diagnostic criteria for MIS-A. Conclusions. SJS results from a dysregulated immune response and can have a similar presentation to MIS-A. A better characterization of both conditions is required particularly in older adults with comorbidities, to facilitate timely diagnosis and management and to reduce mortality.

Whereas scholars have hitherto examined extensively the relation of Greek literature to other European literatures traditionally perceived as most significant, the reception of Russian literature in the Greek literary scene remains obscure, especially in regards to the first half of the twentieth century. In the 19th century, the proportion of Russian literature available to Greek readers in translation was relatively small in comparison to the total sum of translated literature. This started changing gradually at the turn of the century, before undergoing a major shift around the time of the Russian revolution. In combination with the foundation of the Communist party and the spreading popularity of Russian literature in Europe, the translations of Russian literary works experienced a unique flourishing in Greece. This paper focuses on one of the most translated Russian authors in Greece: Maxim Gorky. While taking into account the period before 1917, it examines the constant presence of Gorky on the Greek literary scene up until the World War II, and his reception by Greek authors and critics, especially during the 1920s. Gorky was received in Greece multilaterally: as a prose writer, he exercised influence on thesis novels and short stories, as well as on vagabond literature; as a model for Greek authors due to his mythologized life; and finally, as a literary theoretician who actively took part in the formation of the doctrines of socialist realism.

Abstract: the article focuses on the reception of the Treaty of Lausanne in Greece from 1923 until today. It argues that the Treaty was disadvantageous to Greece, due to its defeat in the war with Turkey from 1919 to 1922. During the interwar period, the Treaty was criticized by several sides, mainly regarding the compulsory exchange of the Greek and Turkish populations. However, the majority of Greeks accepted it as the only option. From the early 1930s onwards, the Treaty of Lausanne gradually became a fundamental pillar of Greek foreign policy. Today, Greece strongly supports the implementation of the Treaty of Lausanne, often accusing Turkey of violating it.

This article tries to provide an evaluation of the Greek historiography on the First World War (WWI) and to illustrate its various research stages and trends. It is argued that the Greek historiography mainly approaches WWI and Greece’s involvement not as an international, but as a domestic phenomenon. Greek involvement in WWI has been looked at through the lens of the Asia Minor Catastrophe in 1922, an episode of the ten-year war of the Greek army starting with the triumphant Balkan Wars and ending with the defeat in the Asia Minor Campaign in 1922.

Leaf springs constitute the most effective suspension way of commercial vehicle axles from the cost and maintainability point of view. Especially in case of front axles, they overtake both the guidance and suspension functions, which consequently designates them as safety components, whose pre-mature failure is explicitly prohibited. The present paper deals with the fatigue performance of downsized parabolic leaf specimens made of the high-strength spring steel 51CrV4 under serial manufacturing conditions. It focuses on the influence of the major manufacturing steps, i.e. the heat treatment and the subsequently applied stress shot peening. The effectiveness of the applied heat treatment on the microstructure transformation and the extent of surface decarburization is determined by means of optical microscopy and corresponding microstructural analyses. Comprehensive series of constant amplitude fatigue tests are executed before and after the applied stress shot peening to quantify its effectiveness on the fatigue performance. The tests cover two characteristic stress ratios of operational significance with the complete range of interest being experimentally investigated. Additionally, surface residual stresses measurements together with micro- and macro-hardness and roughness values before and after stress shot peening are executed to expose the influence of each individual technological effect on the overall fatigue performance.

The use of tangible interfaces in teaching has been proved more effective, user -friendly and helpful in collaborative learning departments, when compared to traditional teaching approaches. In particular, the tangible interface “Makey Makey” is a modern tool that enhances collaboration between pupils, with positive results in education, despite the limited research done on this interface so far. “Makey Makey” succeeds in motivating and engaging young learners in the learning process, showing better performance and scoring results. In addition, its use in teaching has been shown to benefit the learning process in every age learning group.The development and use of such an innovative teaching/learning approach helps young learners perceive the educational process in a different way and assimilate new cognitive fields more effectively. Moreover, educators profit as well, as they can eliminate difficulties and teach more efficiently using examples based on their teaching approach, while enhancing young learners’ parallel skills as well. This study will confirm previous research results stating that assimilation of new concepts is easier with tangible interfaces than with graphical ones, as well as that young learners participating in the survey have shown significant progress in knowledge acquisition when compared to their prior knowledge.

Hydrophobic films were produced on a copper surface by chemical methods. The whole process consisted of three stages. Initially the hierarchical structure of the surface was achieved by in situ reduction of Ag+ ions to Ag using silver nitrate solution, thereby creating a nanostructured surface. The copper surface was then coated with polydopamine by a simple immersion procedure. Finally, it was decorated with thiols, to achieve a hydrophobic surface. The wetting angle was used to evaluate the hydrophobicity of the produced surfaces. The anti-corrosion behavior of the produced hydrophobic films, were evaluated on the specimens that showed higher hydrophobicity by electrochemical methods. Electrochemical techniques (potentiodynamic polarization and resistance spectroscopy tests) were performed in 3.5% NaCl solution. Morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). All experimental results showed a clear improvement in the corrosion behavior of the hydrophobic copper surfaces while the hydrophobicity was maintained after the corrosion tests.

Material removal processes like milling, leave only a small process window to minimally distort the surface of Aluminum foams. Wire-EDM arises as a suitable alternative. Closed-cell aluminum foams were produced and processed at various conditions through wire-EDM to investigate their effect on the foams' surface integrity. Microstructural analysis, porosity assessment and mechanical testing were employed to evaluate the footprint of the manufacturing process. Depending on the process parameters and especially on the working fluid, severe surface and pores damage may occur, affecting the mechanical response under quasistatic and high-velocity impact loads. A process optimization loop offered a distortion-free surface.

Different manufacturing and surface modification treatments distinctively affect the surface characteristics and microstructure of the workpiece, having a different impact on their effective life-span. The corrosion-fatigue behavior of as-machined (wire-EDM), blasted and anodized aluminum alloy 7075-T651 was investigated using 3.5wt% NaCl aqueous solution and distilled water as corrosive media. An in-situ corrosion-fatigue device capable of producing cyclic loads in a corrosive solution was employed, coupled with FEM analysis. Blasting process offered a prolongation of the corrosion-fatigue life-span in both corrosive media, when compared to the as-machined samples under identical conditions. Anodizing had a deleterious effect in all the examined cases.
