Abstract

Descriptions and explanations in historical linguistics. The principles underlying language change involve structural, sociocultural and neurocognitive factors, as languages are complex and coherent systems governed by algorithms, at the intersection of nature and nurture. Therefore, in order to understand these principles it is necessary to adopt an interdisciplinary approach in which linguistics could benefit from philology, sociohistorical sciences, physiology and neurosciences. Moreover, there is a need for disentangling the actuation problem from the transition problem, to explain the patterns of language change and its effect on the systems involved. 5. Geolinguistica, sociolinguistica e cronologia: le dimensioni del mutamento

Abstract

This paper discusses the stages of linguistic historiography leading from the genealogical tree, where the linguistic change is conceived as a one-dimensional event (i.e., change through time), to the geolinguistic approach, providing a two-dimensional image (i.e, change thorugh time and space), and eventually to sociolinguistics, which represents the linguistic change according to a three-layer scheme (time, space and diastratic level of speakers). It is shown that the geolinguistic two-dimensional approach is not able to provide chronological clues. Moreover, some tendencies are taken into account, resulting from the matching of the outputs of linguistic change with the system where it takes place. Finally, the paper attempts to distinguish those changes due to irradiation from those ensuing from polygenesis. Abstract

The comment we are reporting refers to an exceptional form of acute intestinal invagination of the infant. It is question of a total ileocecocolic invagination in which the hump invaginated part came to lodge to the superior part of the rectal ampulla. The treatment was a radio-surgical one and the operative follow-up without any complications.
