اتجهت الدولة المصرية في الآونة الأخيرة إلى التوسع في إنشاء المجتمعات العمرانية الجديدة تبعاً لأحدث أساليب التخطيط العالمية، وبالتالي ظهر مصطلح جديد ألا وهو "مدن الجيل الرابع"، وهذا المصطلح يشير إلى تلك المدن الذكية التي تدار بالتقنيات الحاسوبية، بما يهدف بالنهاية لتحقيق جودة الحياة والتنمية المستدامة من خلال الاستخدام الأمثل للموارد الطبيعية والحفاظ على حق الأجيال القادمة في بيئة نظيفة. وتم اتخاذ مدينتي المنصورة الجديدة والعلمين الجديدة واللتان تطلان على ساحل البحر المتوسط كدراسة حالة، وذلك عن طريق إنشاء قاعدة بيانات متكاملة باستخدام تقنيات الجيوماتيكس وخاصة نظم المعلومات الجغرافية والاستشعار عن بعد لإنتاج الخرائط الذكية الرقمية التي يمكن الاستفادة منها مستقبلا، حيث صُممت المدينتين لكي تحتوي على نطاقات سكنية وسياحية وخدمات لوجستية، ومراكز للمؤتمرات، وموانئ للمؤتمرات، وموانئ جافة، إلى جانب مناطق للصناعات الخفيفة والمتوسطة، ومركز للمواصلات، بالإضافة إلى الخدمات العامة المختلفة. وقد تم تحديد الضوابط البيئية والجيومورفولوجية كمقومات أو معوقات للتخطيط المستدام للمدينتين، وذلك عن طريق تحديد نوع الظاهرات والعمليات النشطة بكل نطاق، نظراً لوقوع المدينتين بنطاقين جغرافيين مختلفين، كما تقودنا إلى تحديد نوعية ورصد الأخطار البيئية والجيومورفولوجية المستقبلية التي تهدد النشاط البشري وتحديد نطاقات التنمية بمنطقتي الدراسة، مثل الأخطار الناتجة عن تآكل السواحل، وارتفاع منسوب سطح البحر وهشاشة التكوينات والهبوط الأرضي، وعمليات التجوية، وخطر ارتفاع منسوب الماء الأرضي وانعكاس ذلك على عمليات التنمية المستدامة وخاصة السياحية ومصادر الطاقة النظيفة.AbstractThe Egyptian state has recently tended to expand the establishment of new urban communities according to the latest global planning methods, and thus a new term has emerged, which is “fourth-generation cities”. This term refers to those smart cities that are managed using computer techniques, which ultimately aims to achieve quality of life and sustainable development through optimal use of physical resources and preservation of the future generations’ right to a clean environment. The cities of New Mansoura and New El-Alamein, overlooking the Mediterranean coast, are taken as a case study. This is done by creating an integrated database using geomatics techniques, particularly geographic information systems and remote sensing, so as to produce digital smart maps that can be used in the future. The two cities are designed to contain residential, tourism, and logistical services, conference centers, conference ports, dry ports, areas for light and medium industries, a transportation center, and various public services. Environmental and geomorphological controls have been identified as components or obstacles to the sustainable planning for the two cities, by determining the type of features and active processes at each scale, given that the two cities are located in two different geographical areas. They also leads us to identify the quality and monitor future environmental and geomorphological hazards that threaten human activity. Besides, they determine the scopes of development in the two study areas such as the hazards resulting from coastal erosion, rise in sea level, fragility of formations, land subsidence, weathering processes, and the risk of rising groundwater levels, in addition to the impact of this on sustainable development processes, particularly tourism and clean energy resources.

This article investigates the pivotal role of farmers' livelihoods in the conservation and development of agricultural heritage systems. As agricultural heritage systems face endangerment and traditional farming systems expose farmers to various risks, including economic, natural, and environmental, the study aims to fill a crucial research gap. Understanding the impact of these risks, including shocks, trends, and seasonality, on farmers in agricultural heritage sites is essential for sustainable livelihoods and heritage development. It further discussed the relationship between livelihood resources and livelihood outcomes by constructing the analytical framework of risks, livelihood resources, and livelihood outcomes based on the Sustainable Livelihood Framework. Employing a participatory approach, in-depth interviews, Focus Discussions Group (FDG), and qualitative analysis, this research centers on Egypt's vital agricultural cultural heritage, the Siwa Oasis.This study reveals critical findings concerning the challenges faced by the Siwan community. Farmers in Siwa Oasis experience financial strains due to seasonal income fluctuations tied to their agricultural dependency. To address this issue, diversification into tourism during off-peak seasons is emerging as a promising strategy. Furthermore, the market's unpredictability compels farmers to compromise on date sales, impacting their financial capital. Access to credit remains challenging due to cultural beliefs, affecting cash holdings. The study also highlights environmental challenges, particularly a problematic agricultural drainage system that threatens the region, causing waterlogged areas and endangering agricultural heritage. Concerns about unplanned urban development detracting from the cultural authenticity of Siwan villages are prevalent. While Siwa Oasis has displayed resilience against external pressures, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, there are concerns about cultural commodification and ecological impact. Eco-lodges have an environmental impact, and population growth poses challenges to traditional farming techniques and heritage preservation.The study contributes valuable insights into the multifaceted dynamics of agricultural heritage systems, offering a foundation for further academic inquiry. Moreover, the findings hold significance for policymakers and practitioners engaged in heritage site management, guiding efforts to sustain and develop these vital agricultural cultural sites. This research provides a holistic understanding of the challenges faced by farmers in similar heritage farming communities and offers lessons on risk management and sustainable livelihoods that can be applied across various cultural contexts.

Conclusion. | (Abstract) In 2019 the EU Commission launched the ambitious so-called European Green Deal, a set of proposals aimed to revise and update EU legislation and to put in place new initiatives with the goal to ensure that EU policies are in line with climate and SDGs goals. To reach the targets set out by the EU institutions, a crucial role is attributed to private investments, which can mobilize the necessary capital to make feasible the green transition. In this regard, trade agreements are an important driver for sustainable growth both in the EU and in partner countries insofar as they promote private investments in strategic sectors while at the same time they contribute to sustainable development. While the EU Commission has already started to insert trade and sustainable development (TSD) chapters in its trade agreements, another possible path has been identified in the conclusion of new-generation bilateral investment agreements. This Insight examines the recently adopted EU-Angola Sustainable Investment Facilitation Agreement (EU-Angola SIFA) as the first of this new generation of investment agreements. Specifically, this Insight points out that, while the agreement is not yet in force and it will take several years to gauge whether it successfully serves as a stimulus to attract sustainable investments, it can already be considered a further attempt to balance the necessity to attract private capitals indispensable for the green transition with the preservation of States’ regulatory powers.

The study explores the relevance of eco-industrial clusters in promoting Ukraine's post-war reconstruction and sustainable development. To this aim, the paper carries out a comprehensive literature review of academic articles, reports, and case studies on eco-industrial clusters and sustainable development, collect data on Ukraine's post-war reconstruction efforts and the current state of its industrial sector, and analyze relevant legislation and policies. The results show that the success of eco-industrial clusters can be attributed to several critical factors, including robust collaboration between companies, a supportive regulatory framework, and a long-term vision for sustainable development. In the context of Ukraine's post-war reconstruction, an eco-industrial cluster offers an opportunity to build back better by creating new jobs, promoting sustainable economic growth, and enhancing environmental protection. This suggests that an effective ecoindustrial cluster in Ukraine should align with the country's long-term vision for sustainable development, identify industries and companies that can benefit from collaboration and resource sharing, and prioritize stakeholder engagement and public awareness. The involvement of research institutions, a supportive regulatory framework, and financial resources from international donors and investors are also critical for the success of an eco-industrial cluster in Ukraine. By adopting a collaborative, innovative, and sustainable approach to economic development, Ukraine can build a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous future for its people.

The digital economy and sustainable development are treated as the world’s progress, and there is a vast number of papers investigating the indirect linkage between these two phenomena. However, there is a lack of studies analysing the direct influence. Hence, the purpose of the current paper is to find out if there is an impact of the digital economy, expressed by DESI sub-dimensions, on sustainable development, represented by SDGI. For that issue, statistical data covering 2017-2020 was gathered, and panel regression modelling was applied. The survey covers 28 EU countries (including the United Kingdom because the data was collected before Brexit). The findings revealed that DESI sub-dimensions influence SDGI; however, the impact was negative in most cases. Thus, the current paper showed that standard views on the influence of the digital economy are not always the right ones.

Both society and human beings are evolving at exponential speeds. Health and medicine are following the same path. Digital technology and data are turning our world upside down. Created in 2014, the Territorial Food Projects (TFP, "Projets Alimentaires Territoriaux" in French) scheme offers a territorial and multi-stakeholder framework for a more sustainable development of territorial food systems. Faced with the apparent diversity of the methods of elaboration of these TFPs, we hypothesize that they may reveal types and trends of governance, potentially steering the food system of territories onto different transition paths. First, we highlight six types of governance of the TFPs, outlining three broader governance trends -- "centralized", "shared" or "territorialized" -- based on a survey revealing the practices implemented for the development of TFPs in the Occitanie region, France. Second, we propose a theoretical modeling of the possible transition paths of the TFPs according to these governance trends -- ranging from public policy to shared management and territorial development project -- by drawing on various theoretical frameworks from institutional economics, notably territorial economics. Sustainable Development concept (SD) aims to better life for future generations. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused tremendous effects on people’s life in several areas. Therefore, the study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the selected part of SD indicators in the OECD countries using Self-Organizing Map (SOM). SOM is a kind of artificial neural network (ANN) method, which is an effective clustering method to find hinder non-linear relationships between indicators. The data contained 38 OECD member countries for 11 variables for each country, covering three years (2019-2021). Firstly, descriptive statistics and Spearman rank correlation analysis were used for bivariate analysis. The coefficient of variation was also used to measure the convergence of indicators. Then, it was a two-stage clustering method using SOM and hierarchical clustering methods—the optimal cluster found according to the Silhouette Index and Davies–Bouldin Index, and as three. The convergence of gross domestic product increased gradually to 40.33% in 2019, 42.01% in 2020, and 43.69% in 2021, meaning increasing relative variability of OECD countries. While the mean of the life span was decreased, the share of health expenditure, health expenditure per capita, out-of-pocket health expenditure, and government health expenditure were increased in the study period. According to clustering analysis, the countries had similar characteristics within three years, except Colombia. Also, the USA distinguished very different characteristics from other OECD countries. Although the mean of study indicators varies due to the effect of the pandemic, the change within each OECD country showed mostly similar characteristics within three years.

In summary, this article emphasizes the importance of education for sustainable development in higher education practices. By addressing the challenges and proposing strategies to integrate sustainable development into all disciplines, higher education institutions can take the lead in promoting sustainability and preparing students for a sustainable future.

A reference unit for the execution of a contemporary marketable artifactIn the light of sustainable development and preservation of identity and heritageThe research sheds light on the possibility of offering a reference unit for the training and implementation of contemporary art work (two or three-dimensional) inspired by the aesthetics of fabric formation (Khayamiya) as a cultural heritage, and marketable in the light of supporting sustainable economic growth and preserving identity and heritage through the following:- Developing the technical ability of students (first year) at the Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University, providing them with knowledge and skills, and training them to master the technical methods necessary to implement artistic works.- Employing plastic vocabulary and structural foundations for some decorations inspired by the Egyptian artistic heritage according to modern artistic and plastic formulations, with an emphasis on the aesthetic and functional values of the artwork.The importance of this unit is due to the study of this important cultural and artistic heritage, and the training of students scientifically and technically to implement marketable artifacts characterized by authenticity and contemporary, and is an important source for preserving heritage and the identity of the handicraft product in light of the major economic transformations witnessed by our contemporary culture in changing market values and public taste . And that is through the development of technical and plastic formulations that depend on new research hypotheses, whether at the level of perceptions, design, how to achieve or marketing, in a way that effectively contributes to pushing the development train, increasing national income and achieving sustainable economic growth. Hence the following question was identified: - How Can a contemporary art work based on the aesthetics of fabric formation and marketable in light of sustainable development and preservation of identity and heritage be able to compete and confront in light of globalization and market challenges?The students of the first year at the Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University, class of 2020/2021, implemented a variety of artifacts (two - three dimensional) that are marketable with aesthetic and functional values inspired by the artistic heritage (Islamic - folk). Araştırmada öğrencilerin hazırladıkları videolardan hareketle su konusundaki bakış açılarının ve sürece yönelik görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan durum çalışması temelinde yürütülmüştür. Köy, ilçe ve il merkezinde 5. sınıfta öğrenim görmekte olan 53 öğrenci çalışmaya dâhil edilmiştir. Veriler, öğrencilerin hazırlamış oldukları videolar ve görüşme formuna verdikleri yanıtlar aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde betimsel ve içerik analizi birlikte kullanılmıştır. Öğrenciler hazırlamış oldukları videolarda su tasarrufu, suyun önemi, su kaynaklarının temizliği, su kirliliği ve suda yaşam konularına yer vermişlerdir. Öğrencilerin bir kısmı ele aldığı konuya ilişkin doğrudan bilgilendirmeler yaparken bir kısmı ise belirli senaryolar oluşturarak ilgili konuyu hikâyeleştirerek izleyicisine sunmuştur. Video içeriklerini zenginleştirmek için öğrencilerin görsel araçlardan faydalandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin görüşleri gerekçe, mesaj ve yönlendirme başlıkları altında değerlendirilmiştir. Su konusunda verilecek olan eğitimlerde ilgili konunun günlük yaşamla daha fazla ilişkilendirilerek tüm boyutlarıyla ele alınması ve okul dışı öğrenme ortamlarından faydalanılması önerilmiştir.

Cooperatives constitute an important force for economic growth and social cohesion. They penetrate all economic and tertiary sectors, they are recognized as successful businesses in which community concerns come first, and they can respond promptly to societal challenges. Although cooperatives and other social economy enterprises were among the first to engage in circularity, the current challenges call for the transformation of production and consumption models applied in this sector to ensure sustainable development. This article contains a study on the importance and opportunity of the transition to the circular economy, international policies in supporting cooperatives in this transition path, the implications of consumer cooperatives in the Republic of Moldova in circularity (made based on a survey of cooperative entities), as well as the argumentation of some proposals which would facilitate the development of national and sectoral policies in support of the circular economy (fiscal, investment, educational, etc.), the implementation of sustainable production and consumption strategies and models in the cooperative sector, the reconsideration of activities promoted through the prism of economic, social and environmental sustainability.

The 2nd french Marine Protected Area was officially created in Mayotte in January 2010, thanks both to a swift procedure and to a strong determined policy. It clearly shows the will of France to manage a broad area in south-west of the Indian Ocean even if its means of action are still to settle. Beyond environemental protection, the park is seen as a useful tool for an island still considered as emergent. From fishing to tourism, many activities hope to take advantage from the dynamic set in motion.

Context and background: This paper explores the intersection of smart cities and urban preservation models. The concept of smart cities is rapidly gaining momentum as a way to improve efficiency, sustainability, and livability of urban areas. However, the pursuit of these goals can sometimes conflict with the need to preserve historic and culturally significant urban areas. Main goal and objectives: This paper examines how smart city technologies can be integrated with urban preservation models to create sustainable and liveable cities while also preserving their unique character and cultural heritage. Methodology: It discusses case studies of cities that have successfully implemented such integration, as well as challenges and opportunities for future implementation. Mauritius, like many other countries, is exploring the concept of smart cities as a means to enhance its urban infrastructure and improve the quality of life for its citizens. Smart cities leverage technology and data to optimize various aspects of urban life, including transportation, energy management, public services, and environmental sustainability. While smart cities present numerous opportunities for Mauritius, they also come with their fair share of challenges. Results: The paper examines the challenges and opportunities of the development of smart cities in the Mauritian context. It concludes that smart cities and urban preservation models can complement each other, and that their integration can lead to a more harmonious and sustainable urban future. By integrating smart city technologies and urban preservation models, cities can create a harmonious balance between technological advancement, sustainability, and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage.

In this study, which aims to examine all of the articles and theses in the field of education in Turkey on the basis of the concepts of sustainability, environmental sustainability and sustainable development, and to address sustainability in all its dimensions, the data were analyzed by meta-synthesis (thematic content analysis). Within the scope of the research, 232 study and education subject areas accessed from the Turkish Higher Education Institution National Thesis Center and DergiPark databases were discussed in the context of the key concepts of "sustainability, sustainability, sustainable development, sustainable environment, environmental sustainability". In the data analysis process, the subject of the research, its method, data collection tools, sample, data analysis, results and suggestions were examined. In most of the studies examined, it is aimed to measure attitudes, perception, awareness and competence towards sustainability and it is seen that the most quantitative method is preferred. While the most educators are selected as the sample group, the size of the study group is between 301 and 1000. Likert-type questionnaires were used in quantitative research and semi-structured interviews were used in qualitative research. While inferential analyzes were preferred the most from quantitative analyzes, content analysis was preferred from qualitative analyzes. It has been observed that there are many studies that increase belief, attitude, perception, awareness, value and tendency in studies where trainings are given within the scope of sustainability. It is seen that there are themes such as curriculum review, scale development and institution review. Recommendations are grouped and presented to researchers, educators, politicians and parents. Based on these results, it can be said that the studies are trying to measure the awareness and awareness of educators and prospective educators about sustainability and to reveal to what extent they can transfer this to future generations.

This article aimed to analyze the monitoring of the use of financial management software by family farmers. Data on the use of the software were collected and tabulated from ten producers in the west and northwest region of Paraná, in addition to conducting a semi-structured interview with a field professional from a service cooperative. During the interview, it was identified that the producers' knowledge about finance is basic and superficial. However, even with limited knowledge, producers use the practice of a handwritten cash flow. Finally, it was concluded that the producers lack training and technical depth in the financial management of the property, uncomplicated tools, and that have their operation on mobile devices, however, they demonstrate conditions to use basic controls such as cash flow. It also revealed that producers are not available to acquire information technology resources because they do not have the financial resources to acquire them.

In the catalogue of issues undertaken by the eco-philosophical thought, two tasks are of exceptional importance. The first one (retrospective) intends to reveal a set of cultural, ideological and philosophical determinants which, especially in modern epoch, inspired the utilitarian, technocratic, positivist thinking and the consequences of which turned out to be dangerous for life on Earth. The second way of thinking, a prospective one, largely contributes to building a new way to conceive the relations between man and nature. It emphasizes the necessity of becoming aware of global communities of fate. It actively joins in projects aimed at planning the prospects for the future, and building a civilization model focused on ecological needs. The outcome of eco-physiological thinking unquestionably contributed to progressing the ideas of ecodevelopment at first, and after that, of sustainable development. In this article we characterize both tasks completed by ecological philosophy. We show rationales for its arguments and assumptions, suggesting courses of action aimed at sustainable socio-economic developments.

In this article, we wish to examine the place of sustainability, urbanity and diversity in major French urban projects labeled operations of national interest (OIN). Thanks to a certain number of field studies and surveys carried out in Marseille and Nice, within the OIN Euroméditerranée and Écovallée Plaine du Var, we will question their reality and their different territorial impacts.

Since human activities have consequences on ecosystems, the effectiveness of sustainable development is obviously necessary. However, the geographical specificities of the territories are decisive in terms of sustainability choices. How to make sustainable territories happen? What experience can be taken from certain current projects called "smart cities" or territorial ecological transitions? The objective of this article is to present, according to four dimensions of geography, the challenges of public policies in the field of the environment to provide sustainable solutions for territories.

We live in a global age of “modernity out of joint and instrumental rationality” (J. Habermas), in which the neoliberal logic of development is imposed as the dominant way of rationalization in all activities (from the economy to education and culture). This is where we are faced with the phenomenon of the rise of academic capitalism in the management of universities. The spirit of corporate logic suppresses not only the statist way of managing universities, but also any other form of autonomous associative participatory development of universities as a cognitive-educational, rational and humane community of homo academicus. This paper explores the scope of different models of education management, with a special focus on the modern university and its development contradictions. The author culminates this paper with an invocation - that if the university is to become the key cognitive and developmental capital, a factor in the development of self-awareness and a treasurer of identity culture, and a participant in the humanistic-emancipatory processes of the democratic development of society and humanity, it must avoid the traps of both statist and corporate management. In other words, the modernization process of the university management system must follow the principles of a rational, humane and participative community, whose supreme values are: the creative search for truth, the development of an autonomous critical personality, lifelong learning, patriotism and philanthropy. Achieving these goals requires the preservation and development of the university's autonomy, because it is a prerequisite for its development as a creative and critical institution in the service of truth, people and humanity. Conclusions. | (Abstract) The environmental integration principle, which aims to incorporate environmental considerations into the regulatory instruments in the fields outside Environmental Law, initially emerged and evolved in International and subsequently in EU Law. Since its emergence, the environmental integration principle has been closely linked to the concept of sustainable development, given that the principle is perceived as a key instrument for its realisation. The main aim of this Article is to answer the question of whether the environmental integration principle has not only a procedural, but also a substantive meaning in EU Law and, if this question is answered in the affirmative, the question of how the substantial component of the principle can be determined. Answering this question pre-supposes not only analysing the legal status, the addressees and the regulative context of the respective provision, but also certain recent critical developments that have taken place since the adoption of the EU Green Deal. The main message underpinning this Article is that the principle also has a substantive meaning that has been reinforced since the adoption of the EU Green Deal, but often it cannot be clearly delineated. The implementation of its substantive component through the respective legal instruments can also result in conflicts with the provisions of the EU Economic Constitution.

Adherence to sustainable development as overarching principle of the EU policies and actions has been considered one of the main strengths of the European integration model. But the times of financial, social, health and security crisis have brought divergences from the original ambitions. It is argued that to overcome the polycrisis while maintaining legitimacy, the Union must realize its commitments enshrined in the EU Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights by providing materially dignified, socially just and environmentally sensible life for all. Effective corporate sustainability due diligence can be a contributing factor to this end. The analyzed proposal for a directive, however, displays several conceptual and systemic weaknesses that may undermine the declared intentions.

It is worth mentioning that population increase is one of the most important challenges faced by the Egyptian government, and the achievement of sustainable development goals in its various dimensions or its holistic perspective (human, social, economic and environmental), especially in the period after the June 2.13 revolution. Mitigating its risks on their professional and family future on the one hand, and on the path of sustainable development with its holistic perspective in the new republic - Egypt. The research used the descriptive method, the statistical method, the questionnaire, and individual and group interviews with the students of the Faculty of Arts. The current study was applied to a sample of (5..) students from the departments of the Faculty of Arts at Zagazig University.The study concluded that the population increase impedes the efforts of the Egyptian government in the process of sustainable development that aims to change the life of the Egyptian citizen for the better, and that there is a close interrelationship between a group of reasons leading to the population increase, there are economic reasons, cultural, social, and demographic reasons, and there are other reasons not less Important, including planning reasons, including religious reasons. The university and university youth (students) have an important role in studying and diagnosing the causes of population increase, and confronting them scientifically, research and socially.

La situación actual de mujeres y niñas se ha agravado dando clara muestra de ello los objetivos de la Agenda 2030 de desarrollo sostenible de Naciones Unidas que indican que con la pandemia las acciones tomadas para el logro de mejores estándares se han visto en retroceso. El caso de las mujeres migrantes, las refugiadas o desplazadas de sus hogares, muchas de ellas víctimas de tratos inhumanos, y de repetidas violaciones. En este artículo pusimos especial énfasis en la relación y articulación constante de los instrumentos normativos internacionales en el ámbito de los Derechos Humanos y del Derecho Internacional Privado con el fin de encontrar posibles respuestas a las problemáticas que se presentan, desde la perspectiva de género. The current situation of women and girls has worsened, this is clearly showed in the objectives of the Schedule of 2030 for sustainable development of the United Nations, which indicates that with the pandemic the actions taken to achieve better standards have been receding. The case of women who are migrant, refugees or displaced from their homes, many of them victims of inhuman treatment and repeated violations. In 2015 the government in Wales passed into law the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act. This act is the first legislation in the world to enshrine the rights of future generations alongside current ones and requires Welsh Government ministers and the organisations they oversee to embed this commitment into everything they do. The creation of the Act was a brave and wonderful act by the Welsh Government and a vote of confidence by the Welsh legislature for a different, more sustainable future for Wales.Written by the Minister who proposed the Act, this article recounts what led up to it, examines why Wales was first to do it and then assesses whether it is working and what needs to happen next.

Wales has economically underperformed its European neighbours for decades. As societies and economies transform in response to key climate, nature and technological pressures, this paper asks whether recent policy innovations in Wales, the result of political devolution from London, signal a new radicalism. Will this comprise a different approach to regional development, one that values the local over the global, and wellbeing over economic growth, resulting in a more resilient, sustainable and responsible region?

Many medium-sized Italian cities share the problem of having incorporated or having to integrate within the urban area relevant industrial components that influence both the overall quality of life and the environment in a strict sense. Sustainability perspectives are a relevant starting point for guiding companies’ development and growth strategies. At the same time, this aspect constitutes a strategic opportunity for urban development, that is still conditioned by the direct presence of companies that, in the best scenario, simply comply with current regulations in term of sustainability. The classic stakeholder theory, which is widely diffused in organizational culture, must be revised to solidify the understanding of the role of local stakeholders, who are passively involved in the environmental impact of companies’ activities. Studying the awareness, among the different corporate components, of environmental issues, is a very relevant step to trigger processes of effective improvement. In this article, we would like to argue that a greater understanding of sustainability issues on the part of decision-makers and employees of companies is a key that can have concrete effects on an aggregate level in the urban dimension. To verify this hypothesis, we propose a case study comparing three organisations, composed of ten plants spread across the Italian territory and all located in the proximity of medium-sized cities. Adopting a mixed qualitative-quantitative methodology, the work crosses primary qualitative data (semi-structured interviews with key players), quantitative data and secondary data relating to the territorial context. The results allow to highlight limits and potential of the industrial-urban coexistence, with a specific focus on the relation between private and public actors.

This article concerns workers who wish to further integrate sustainable development into their activities. It presents two workshops on a design support tool that supports the collaborative design of new work objects in this context. The workshops are based on: 1) eleven Characteristics of Sustainable Development (CSD) constructed from the ergonomics literature on sustainable development, and 2) the desire to understand the professional transition as a collaborative design process that supports projection into the future, mobilizes peers and promotes the expression of points of view. We analyze the collaborative design activity generated by the workshops during a day of support for a group of teacher-researchers in Sports Science. The results underline the decisive role of the workshops, and more specifically of the CSD, in the construction of a shared understanding between participants and in encouraging participants to engage in collaborative design activities simultaneously oriented towards the evolution of their work objects and towards a sustainable development goal. The CSD provide a framework for structuring thought while leaving total freedom in the meaning and interpretation of the ideas, as they are sufficiently “vast” for the participants to appropriate and “manipulate” them. The workshops help us to reflect on the issues of sustainable development and to promote a constructive debate on these issues. We discuss the limits of the existing workshops, tool and study. We conclude with the perspectives of applying this tool to other worker groups.

This article looks at the discourse of the impact investing industry (a term that designates an investment whose stated intention is to produce both a social or environmental impact and a financial return on investment) through the case of the Global Impact Investing Network, one of the largest organizations promoting this investment approach worldwide. Illustrating the 'caring' shift (Barman E., 2015) in capitalist discourse at the beginning of the 21st century, impact investors argue that it is possible to finance businesses with a mission to solve social or environmental problems (poverty, poor access to education or health, non-renewable energy, climate or biodiversity crisis, etc.) without having to sacrifice financial returns. Based on a document analysis, we first describe the vague concept of impact investing which is at the heart of its discourse. To make impact exist and promote its discourse, the GIIN uses two 'concretization' techniques: objectification techniques make impact exist through measurements and quantifiable indicators. Exemplification techniques focus on investors and emphasize their intentions as opposed to investees or beneficiary populations. Finally, we show that the concept of impact investment is supported by a more general discourse that is built around a so-called 'win-win' logic. According to the GIIN, this new practice of sustainable finance would have the advantage of producing only winners, thus reversing the idea that what is gained on one side is lost on the other. The world is witnessing a large and continuous process of rural-urban population ‎transformation. This poses a major challenge to the urban planning and sustainable ‎development processes. Accordingly, these processes must keep pace with the future ‎and are based on scientific foundations to achieve the desired and achieve prosperity. Data and indicators that include all dimensions of sustainable development are ‎considered one of the important tools for achieving effective and efficient development ‎policies. The Habitat City Prosperity An initiative is a tool for measuring sustainable ‎urban development that enables city management authorities and various stakeholders ‎to identify different opportunities and areas for development to make cities more ‎prosperous. The research sought to describe and analyze the city prosperity initiative and study the ‎relationship between it and the goals of sustainable development in general, and a ‎detailed study of one of its main axes (infrastructure development), then study its ‎results in the city of Makkah and study how the indicators of infrastructure development ‎were reflected in development policies. The research took a methodology to achieve the goals through the descriptive, ‎analytical approach and case study to devise how to use the indicators of city prosperity ‎to set development policies. The research concluded the importance of the Cities Prosperity initiative as a tool for ‎monitoring and analyzing the current situation and as a monitoring and evaluation tool ‎to achieve the goals as well as a tool for how to achieve the goals. The research also ‎showed how to use the indicators of prosperity and quadrennial analysis thereof in ‎setting development policies and achieving sustainable urban development. The ‎research recommends the necessity of publishing and teaching the indicators of ‎prosperity to architects. Also, planners at the university level as well as in the ‎professional field, as well as training workers in the relevant authorities, as well as ‎setting up a system of qualitative indicators for comprehensive information on ‎development issues.‎
