Introduction: Malakoplakia (MP) is a rare granulomatous disease, usually occurring in immunocompromised patients, linked to Escherichia coli infection. The lesions are usually located in the genitourinary tract, but there is a great variability in the topography and the clinical presentation., Case Report: A 70-year-old diabetic kidney transplant patient under immunosuppressive treatment presented with a voluminous submandibular chronic lesion, involving the skin, associated with a burgeoning lesion of the oral mucosa. Histological examination of biopsies concluded to MP and bacteriological samples were positive for E. coli. Antibiotic treatment allowed for the regression of the lesion before surgical removal. Histological examination of resected material confirmed the diagnosis of invasive MP of the submandibular gland., Discussion: The diagnosis of MP relies on histological examination, showing the presence of von Hansemann's cells and Michaelis- Gutmann bodies. The treatment is based on active antibiotics targeted against intracellular bacteria, possibly associated with surgery. Introduction: Submandibular swelling most frequently involves the submandibular gland. It is often due to lithiasis or to tumor. Some rare cases of submandibular swelling have been reported such as submandibular localizations of thyroid lesions. Our case study concerns one of these rare occurrences., Observation: A 47-year-old female patient consulted for a right-sided submandibular mass progressively increasing in size during the previous 2 years. The patient had undergone a total thyroidectomy, 4 years before consulting, for a toxic multinodular goiter THAT had been treated by L-thyroxin replacement therapy per os since the surgery. TSH and LT4 levels were normal. A CT scan revealed a large tumor in the right submandibular space with heterogeneous contrast. Fine needle cytopuncture allowed observing follicular cellules suggesting thyroid origin. The cervicotomy confirmed the diagnosis of an ectopic goiter., Discussion: Thyroid disorders may in rare cases concern the submandibular space. A history of thyroid disorders should be taken into account for the etiological diagnosis of unusual submandibular masses in maxillo-facial surgery., (Copyright © 2014. We report an exceptional case of giant cell tumor of the submaxillary gland in a 76-year-old woman. The tumor progressed slowly over a period of 40 years. Submaxillectomy removed a 3-kg mass before fixation. The postoperative period was uneventful and the patient was discharged fifteen days later. Pathology examination revealed a pleomorphous adenoma developed within the salivary gland.

Background: Drug-induced sialadenitis is uncommon and unrecognized. Drugs such as nitrofurantoïn, nifedipine and methimazole have been reported to induce sialadenitis. However, phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone are the most frequently implicated agents. We describe a case of phenylbutazone-induced parotitis and submaxillitis with cutaneous and hepatic involvement., Case Report: A 51 year-old woman who had received phenylbutazone for the past 6 days was hospitalized for diagnosis of Quincke's oedema. Clinical examination in fact revealed bilateral parotitis and submaxillitis. The patient had contracted mumps in infancy. Improvement was noticed 8 days after stopping the drug and treatment by glucocorticosteroid. Nevertheless a pruritic eruption with fever appeared. Laboratory data showed leukocytosis with neutrophilia, ESR of 75 mm/hr, hepatic cholestasis and cytolysis. Infectious and autoimmune causes were ruled out. The eruption spontaneously disappeared after 5 days. Laboratory studies 3 weeks later were normal., Discussion: Quincke's edema diagnosis had been established too fast on "allergic past history" and patient interrogation. Complete clinical examination revealed the correct diagnosis of sialadenitis. This observation shows similarities with other publications: unbearable xerostomia appearing before sialadenitis and with a long course, parotitis with sub-maxillitis, 6 days delay after the first administration of phenylbutazone before fever, local evolution without complication, inflammatory biological syndrome with neutrophilia and absence of infectious cause. Pruritic maculo-papulous eruption and biological hepatic abnormalities are however rare. An hypersensibility mechanism is discussed.

Bilateral dysgenetic polycystic disease of parotid glands is an extremely rare pathologic condition in which salivary parenchyma is partially replaced by multiple epithelial-lined cysts arising from intercalated ducts. Review of the fourteen cases published in literature shows that it affects nearly exclusively women with an history of asymptomatic progressive enlargement of almost always both parotid glands. We report here the first case, to our knowledge, of a polycystic disease involving both submandibular salivary gland in a man.

A case of malignant lymphoepithelial lesion of the submandibular gland is reported in a 71-years-old woman. The carcinoma showed a poorly differentiated pattern and its epidermoid nature was obvious after immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. The epithelial nests were lying in an abundant lymphoid stroma consisting of small lymphocytes. A recurrence occurred ten months after surgical treatment. This observation is compared with those already related in the literature.

The authors describe a case of a "separate" type of salivary adenocarcinoma-like tumor. The growth is described as a papillary cystadenocarcinoma of the submaxillary gland, which should be distinguished from degenerate adenolymphoma. This malignant tumor, which remains "enclosed" until late, grows slowly and should be checked regularly over a protracted period of time following surgical excision performed in accordance with cancer therapy specifications.

A hitherto unreported complication of orthodontic treatment secondary to the insertion of an inferior lingual arch: bilateral sclerosis of submandibular glands.

A 15-year-old girl, operated upon (surgical ankyloglossia) at birth for glossoptosis due to Pierre Robin's syndrome provoking respiratory distress, presented with lithiasis of Wharton's duct. The pathogenesis of the lithiasis is considered to be related to the wounds and scars following the sublingual surgery, findings in this case also strongly suggesting the role of mechanical and inflammatory factors in the etiology of salivary gland lithiasis in general.

Histopathologic diagnosis in three patients presenting with a cervicofacial salivary tumoral mass was respectively an inflamed accessory salivary glands, two small islets of ectopic salivary glands and an ectopic salivary duct.
