To find a solution for a sustainable mobility in the rural or sparsely populated regions is for many years one goal of the German regional policy. So -- since about 50 years -- a high number of model or pilot projects were realised to carry out new service concepts for the public transport. The paper deals with the current distribution of this new kind concepts in Germany and analyses the results. The research was done on the level of the German 'Kreise' which are responsible to run the local public transport schemes. The work was achieved in the context of a project at the Institut für Stadt- und Regionalplanung at the Technische Universität Berlin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
