WOMEN'S magazines , *LEGISLATIVE bodies , *NATIONAL socialism , *ACADEMIC freedom , *CONSTITUTIONAL amendments , *FREEDOM of the press - Abstract
The article covers various topics, including the desecration of the Cologne Synagogue in 1959, the role of journalists in early West Germany, the struggle for academic freedom at the Free University of Berlin in the 1960s, the relationship between Joachim Gauck and Helga Hirsch, as well as the silence of legal elites regarding the past of German jurisprudence during National Socialism. The author also mentions the rejection of an article on the past of German jurisprudence by the FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) and the collective concealment of a covert constitutional amendment by the German Bundestag and Bundesrat in 2017. In this text, the author criticizes the constitutional issues related to the introduction of "marriage for all" in Germany. He criticizes the fact that the societal dimension of this change was not mentioned in the legislative bodies and that the constitutionality of the law was not sufficiently discussed. The author accuses the Chancellor of bypassing constitutional review of the law with her statement in a women's magazine. He also criticizes the lack of media response to his inquiries on other topics. The author laments the decline in morals and the lack of press freedom. [Extracted from the article]

GERMAN language , *DISCLOSURE , *INTELLECTUAL life , *CULTURAL property , *EVERYDAY life , *FREEDOM of the press - Abstract
The article deals with the research of the German-language press in Brazil and the Americas. Between 1824 and 1952, around 350,000 German immigrants came to Brazil, and over 600 German-language newspapers, magazines, and reports were created. These publications played a significant role in cultural life and shaped everyday life in various cities. Unfortunately, many of these documents were erased from Brazilian historiography by a nationalist dictatorship in the late 1930s. Nevertheless, the German language remains present in many families and institutions and is now generating great interest again. The disclosure of these documents allows for a renewed visibility and appreciation of this cultural heritage. The digitization and research of the German-language press are seen as an opportunity to better understand and appreciate the importance of German. [Extracted from the article]

LITURGICS , *PRINTING , *SIXTEENTH century , *NATIVE language , *PRESS , *LITURGIES , *REFORMATION , *FOLKLORE , *BISHOPS ,VATICAN Council (2nd : 1962-1965) - Abstract
The article "How are liturgical books created?" deals with the process of creating liturgical books for an entire language area. Various occasions and objectives for the publication of such books are discussed, with the liturgy interacting with other areas and aspects. The article also sheds light on the development of liturgical books after the Reformation and the Council of Trent in the 16th century, as well as the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council. It is emphasized that since then, the liturgy can be celebrated in the vernacular languages, resulting in new conditions and challenges. The article describes the process of creating liturgical books in the Catholic Church, with the responsibility for publication being transferred to the bishops' conferences. The need for revisions of liturgical books is pointed out, and questions regarding the plausibility of the liturgy in a secularized society and a damaged church are raised. MASS media , *RIGHT-wing populism , *POLITICAL science , *RIGHT-wing extremism , *SOCIAL movements , *DIGITAL media , *SOCIAL facts , *ILLEGITIMACY , *RIGHT-wing extremists - Abstract
Recently has been much discussion and research on the credibility of the media and on trust or mistrust towards them, at the latest since the crises of 2015, in connection with a general disenchantment with politics and the state. In particular, right-wing populist and radical populations have insulted the established media as the “lying press” in order to articulate their rejection and contempt, indeed their hatred of society, the state and its institutions. In the Federal Republic, too, considerable research efforts were launched to work out, together with international research, the forms and motives, connections and causes of this hostility towards the media. Even special long-term studies were initiated alongside the existing ones to work out continuities, but also changes in these social movements and phenomena. However, critical replication shows that not even the central paradigms are clear and unambiguous and that the data collected for this purpose is quite broad and unspecific. Focusing on socio-demographic data, the agreements and discrepancies also turn out differently, since the diverse publics differ considerably, especially at the border between established and new or digital media and their use. Thus, in the end, the supposedly concrete paradigms turn out to be abstract currencies for the blanket legitimacy and performance capacities of the media. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FREEDOM of the press , *DIGITAL transformation , *MASS media policy , *COVID-19 pandemic , *CITIZENS , *GOVERNMENT policy , *PROFESSIONALISM - Abstract
The article deals with the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) and notes that despite its tenth anniversary in 2022, interest in it is low. The Covid-19 pandemic and the Conference on the Future of Europe have led to a decline in the use of the ECI. The political debate mainly focuses on new forms of participation, while strengthening the existing instrument is only mentioned in passing. Scientific research on the ECI remains a niche topic, although some analyses of its impact and mobilization of support have been published. The media plays an important role in providing information on European politics, but there are challenges in reporting due to different national publics and the low market value of European politics. The digital transformation offers opportunities to make European politics more popular and reach new target groups, but EU correspondents warn against diluting the professionalism and control function of EU news journalism. The Conference on the Future of Europe has provided impetus for European media and public policy and discussed various media policy initiatives. The EU has already taken initiatives to strengthen press freedom, including the Digital Services Act and direct sanctions against media institutions. The future of European media policy lies in securing press freedom and promoting new digital forums for the exchange of European political content. [Extracted from the article]

ADMINISTRATIVE courts , *LEGAL judgments , *NEWSPAPERS , *POLICE , *FREEDOM of the press , *PRESS , *INFORMATION sharing - Abstract
The article deals with the right of the press to information regarding police operations at the residential address of an applicant. The administrative court has ruled that the applicant has the right to prohibit future press inquiries about the operations. The press had inquired with the police, who confirmed that there had been verbal disputes. The court determined that the applicant's right to informational self-determination is affected. It was decided that the newspaper's interest in information outweighs the applicant's right, and the respondent is no longer allowed to provide information in the future. However, the request for the imposition of a penalty payment was rejected. [Extracted from the article]

YIDDISH language , *NATIONAL character , *LINGUISTIC identity , *PRINTING industry , *PUBLISHING - Abstract
Compared to the Habsburg era, when Yiddish writings were hardly printed in Bukovina - due to the centralized policy of Vienna and the openness towards integration and assimilation on the part of numerous Bukovinian Jews, as well as because of the status of Yiddish as the language of uneducated Jews - the Yiddish printing industry, as well as the Yiddish libraries didn't develop until the early 1920s, simultaneously with the emergence of national identity concepts. This paper is based on descriptive research and discusses the importance of these institutions in shaping trajectories of cultural, national and linguistic identities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HYDRAULIC drive , *PRESS , *MASS media , *VALVES , *HYDRAULICS , *MARKET positioning , *CARTRIDGES (Ammunition) , *MANUFACTURING industries , *FRICTION , *PROJECTILES - Abstract
The press manufacturer Wickert is relying on an advanced hydraulic concept for a new friction lining press. Flow-optimized Parker active installation valves ensure fast filling and emptying of the main cylinders during the closing and opening movements. The hydraulic drive concept of Wickert presses is energy-efficient and enables precise closing. The new, actively controlled TFW-2/2-way switching valve from Parker offers high flow rates and compact dimensions. The tests with the TFW prototype were successful, and the valve allowed for a reduction in the pressing time. Wickert is well positioned for the future in the market and manufactures fully automatic press systems for calibrating and hot bonding friction linings. [Extracted from the article]
