The face is innervated by the fifth and seventh cranial nerves, i.e. the trigeminal nerve and the facial nerve. As already mentioned in the last part, this has a historical-developmental basis. The facial skull, the masticatory muscles and the facial skin develop from the first pharyngeal arch, whose associated nerve is the trigeminal nerve. This explains the sensory innervation of the facial skin by the three branches of the trigeminal nerve. With its motor part (masticatory nerve), it also innervates the masticatory muscles. In this section we describe the structure of the nerves in the face. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
