Circumcision is one of the most frequent operative procedures done in males. About 120 circumcisions are performed every 5 minutes over the world [14]. Three different reasons lead to circumcision: 1) Medical reasons in present of a pathologic phimosis. 2) Circumcisions done due to religious, social or cultural rea-reasons. 3) Finally in many countries circumcision is performed as "routine-circumcision" in the newborn period. While in the United States the number of routine-circumcisions decreases (about 60% of all male newborns) South-Korea has a rate near to 100%. Even with no religious or cultural background in Germany circumcision often is performed without scrutinizing medical indication. Circumcision is regarded as an procedure with no complications and no disadvantage for the patient. In general circumcision has no medical benefit neither in decreasing the incidence of urinary tract infections nor of sexual transmitted diseases nor of neoplasias. Medical indication for circumcision is given in present of pathologic phimosis in 4% of all males. Postoperative complications range up to 2% and "circumcision is the amputation of the prepuce from the rest of the penis, resulting in permanent alteration of the anatomy, histology and function of the penis...". There are many reports about having discomfort and disadvantages after circumcision as well to the males as to the sexual partners. This challenge the legality of neonatal involuntary circumcision because legality is based on saving the children's best interests.

Erectile dysfunction is an entity associated with age but is not necessarily a consequence of aging. During erection the penis acts as a capacitor--accumulating blood under pressure. Erectile function is, therefore, dependent on the integration and regulation of functional interplay between psychologic, neurologic, endocrine and vasoactive factors. Any imbalance in the integration of these factors will result in erectile dysfunction. Trabecular smooth muscle is an important structure, which contributes to control of detumescence and erection. The smooth muscle tone is mediated by many hormones and vasoactive factors (e.g. norepinephrine, acetylcholine, NO, VIP, prostaglandins etc.) but its functioning is also dependent on a sufficient oxygenation to prevent the fibrosis of this important structure. This oxygenated state is achieved during erections. So we can conclude: Erections are good for erections.

The African ostrich (Struthio camelus) is different from other birds not only because it is a running bird (Ratitae), but also because it urinates and the male bird has a penis. On a specialized farm in Israel the sexual behaviour of ostriches was studied. Courtship behaviour and mating have a very refined pattern. The copulation, which starts with an immission of the penis and ends with an orgasm, lasts about one minute. Most of the copulations take place during the morning morning hours. Occasionally, female ostriches demonstrate courtship behaviour to other females. Sometimes female ostriches mount other females as in the case of copulation.

The dromedary is very well adapted to arid areas. It is able to survive for many days without drinking; the loss of water is negligible. Morphological characteristics hitherto interpreted as adaptations to dry areas now seem to have other reasons. In the natural habitat of the dromedary mostly thorny plants occur. Long eyelashes, eyebrows, lockable nostrils, caudal orifice of the prepuce and a relatively small vulva protect the animals against injury, especially during feeding.

Neurogenic and vasculogenic impotence after aortoiliac reconstruction is an unpleasant problem in vascular surgery. The importance of maintaining or restoring intraoperatively a sufficient hypogastric artery blood flow is emphasized. Postoperative neurogenic sexual disabilities are irreversible and are due to interruption of sympathetic nerve fibers supplying the genital system. Dissecting the terminal aorta and the iliac arteries the hypogastric sympathetic plexus--which descends across the bifurcation--can be easily damaged. This is the cause of the high incidence of failure of ejaculation after aortoiliac surgery. In order to avoid this neurogenic sexual dysfunction a retromesenteric approach to the aortoiliac region is anatomically suggested by A. v. Hochstetter. It enables the exposure of the abdominal aorta and the iliac arteries without disrupting the superior hypogastric plexus and its variants. Respecting the integrity of the sympathetic plexus and a sufficient flow in the internal iliac artery the frequency of postoperative disturbances of erection was reduced from 17% (1199 patients) to 12.3% (570 patients). The incidence of postoperative loss of ejaculation in the same groups of patients decreased from 81% to 20%.
