Abstract

Mitte März des letzten Jahres erreichte die Corona-Pandemie dann auch die Goethe-Universität: Der Lehrbetrieb in den folgenden Semestern wurde und wird hauptsächlich im digitalen Modus durchgeführt, viele Mitarbeiter*innen arbeiten seitdem im Homeoffice, Hygiene- und Abstandsregeln gelten in Räumen und auf Plätzen. In kürzester Zeit mussten Arbeitsabläufe neu organisiert und viele Services auf digitale Prozesse umgestellt werden. Aber das Wichtigste: Die Infektionszahlen konnten gering gehalten werden. Der UniReport hat einige Hochschulangehörige aus Wissenschaft, Verwaltung und Studierendenschaft nach ihren Erfahrungen und Erkenntnissen in diesem außergewöhnlichen Jahr befragt.

Seit Mitte November hängen auf den Campus Banner und Plakate, die mit klarer Botschaft auffordern, sexualisierter Diskriminierung und Gewalt entgegenzutreten: Sieh hin! Sag Nein! Speak Out! Mit der Kampagne »laut*stark« richtet die Goethe-Universität die Aufmerksamkeit auf das Thema der sexualisierten Diskriminierung und Gewalt, das im Rahmen der #MeToo-Debatte auch hier intensiv diskutiert wird. Vorfälle sexualisierter Diskriminierung sind seitdem sichtbarer geworden. Die zentrale Gleichstellungsbeauftragte Anja Wolde und Vizepräsident Rolf van Dick diskutieren Fragen zu besseren Beratungs- wie Interventionsmöglichkeiten und zur Sensibilisierung der Hochschulangehörigen.

Abstract

While basically RADARs and LIDARs share the same principles of measurements, because of their different wavelengths, RADARs and LIDARs are sensitive to different characteristics of the atmosphere. LIDARs are used primarily for clear air sensing of molecular and particulate species (including ice clouds). RADAR measurements are most widely used for cloud and rain sensing. However, there are overlaps in the capabilities and new applications take advantage of recently developed installations of RADAR and LIDAR on the same aircraft. Several books exist which detail LIDAR or RADAR techniques and applications. It is not the objective of this chapter to fully describe such techniques or to delve into details about electromagnetic interaction processes. Rather, the objectives of this chapter are to (i)present, in parallel, optical and microwave measurement principles focusing on similarities and differences; (ii) highlight recent advances in observations, including synergetic ones; and (iii) to present state-of-the-art results related to the characterization of the atmospheric parameters and composition from airborne LIDAR and RADAR observations. Surface and subsurface characterization are not part of this review.

The famous verse in the prologue of the book of Job, which is commonly translated with “Job took a potsherd to scrape himself while he was sitting among the ashes,” is the object of study here. In this analysis of Job 2:8, three components are extensively discussed; (1) The syntactic structure that shows that the subject of the action of “taking” is the satan and not Job; (2) The semantic analysis of the occurrences of the noun חרש, which demonstrates that this word does not designate “potsherd,” but “pot”; and (3) The semantic analysis of the infinitive hitpael התגרד, which explains the satan’s goal in bringing Job a pot, namely to squeeze out his inflamed boils that cover him from head to toe.

Abstract

Although traditional handicraftsmen play an indispensable economic and socio-cultural role within the society, they have been marginalized and segregated by the peasant population in southern Ethiopia. The handicraftsmen produce a wide range of production, household consumption and defence tools and implements. Besides, they have an important socio-cultural role as ritual performers, initiators, drummers, musicians, entertainers, operators, professional mourners, traditional medical experts, etc. during several social life events. However, despite their important role in multiple contexts, they are despised and prejudiced against by the peasant population. They are kept away and segregated from the rest of the society, being considered as unclean, and restricted in many ways, including limitation to endogamous marriage. This study examines the ambiguous and ambivalent position of the handicraftsmen, as well as their mutual interdependence within the peasant population by investigating the particular case of potters and smiths among the Kambaata of southern Ethiopia.
