The article "Living Carrier of the Third Reich"? New insights into the involvement of the business educator Ludwig Kiehn in the Nazi system" deals with the involvement of the business educator Ludwig Kiehn in the Nazi system. New insights from personnel files, denazification files, and personal correspondence are presented to uncover Kiehn's ideological commitment to National Socialism. The text describes the life and career of Ludwig Kiehn, a German educator, during the time of National Socialism and the post-war period. Kiehn was classified as a "follower" in the denazification process and received professional restrictions. It is also mentioned that Kiehn was a member of the NSDAP and the National Socialist Teachers' League, but some witnesses claimed that he opposed the Nazi aspirations. [Extracted from the article]

During the university period, individuals join a social environment in which they learn to establish new relationships. The emergence of these new experiences can bring about interpersonal conflicts and the process of forgiveness. Disturbances in the individual's interactions with oneself and others during this process may have negative effects on forgiveness. Some theories and models mention the important roles of self-reflection and insight into the forgiveness process. However, the relationships between Gestalt contact disturbances, forgiveness, self-reflection, and insight were not examined sufficiently. The aim of the current study is to examine the mediating roles of self-reflection and insight in the relationship between Gestalt contact disturbances (contact, full contact, dependent contact, post-contact) and forgiveness (self forgiveness and forgiveness of others) in a sample of university students. The participants were a total of 377 university students, 246 (65.3%) women and 131 (34.7%) men, who were reached by convenient and snowball sampling methods. The current study included university students aged 18-30, with an average participant age of 23.93. In the data collection process Gestalt Contact Disturbances Scale, Self-Reflection and Insight Scale and Forgiveness Scale were applied. Descriptive statistics, correlation and mediation analyses were conducted using SPSS 23.0 and PROCESS Macro 4.2 (Model-4). The findings indicated that insight had a mediating role in the relationship between contact and full contact with self-forgiveness. Self-reflection had a mediating role in the relationship between dependent contact and post-contact with self-forgiveness, while insight had a mediating role in the relationship between contact and forgiveness of others.

5. Wallace Stevens: Lyrisch Philosophieren

Wallace Stevens is widely regarded as an author whose poetry possesses a particularly close affinity to philosophy, which is usually taken to mean that his poems contain statements of philosophical concepts or propositions. In contrast to this, the following article examines the relation of Stevens’s poetry and philosophy with respect not to the contents of his poems but to their sequential structure. This analytic focus is motivated by the observation that the progression of the utterance in a great many of Stevens’s poems appears to be modelled on the principles of philosophical argumentation: i.e., that the poems go through a quasi-philosophical process of questioning, reflection, and cognition. As lyric poems, however, they pursue this practical process of thinking and arguing on the basis of the principles of poetic composition. The poems can thus be described as employing two different discourse types at the same time and in interaction with each other: philosophical argumentation, on the one hand, and poetic composition on the other. Accordingly, the following analyses are guided by two questions: first, what aims do the argumentations in the poems pursue and, second, how do the two discourse types interact with each other in that process? Three poems from different periods of Stevens’s poetic œuvre are used as examples: “A High-Toned Old Christian Woman” (1923), “Man Carrying Thing” (1947) and “The Plain Sense of Things” (1954).

On account of its constitution as a temporally organized sequence of verbal utterances, typically presented from a speaker’s subjective perspective, lyric poetry is particularly suited to simulate mental processes and thereby mediate forms of cognition and insight. Indeed, the presentation of cognitive phenomena can be considered one of the prime functions of lyric poems throughout the history of poetry. For the analysis of such processes in poems a transgeneric narratological approach is here proposed, which is ultimately based on the anthropological fact that human existence is inescapably subject to temporality and change and that individuals are therefore permanently concerned with understanding, structuring, planning or preventing change. For this purpose, they employ the basic operation of narration in their communication both with others and themselves as well as in the production and reception of the various artistic genres, not only in fiction, drama and film, but also in lyric poetry. Poems employ narrative elements in a variety of modes which are specific to poetry, such as psycho-narration, mini-narratives, condensed, implicit or metaphorical narratives. A central device for structuring and interpreting a narrative sequence is the event, a transformation or decisive turn in the chain of changes, which then constitutes the moment of cognition or insight in the poem. The presentation of such a mental transformation from the speaker’s limited subjective perspective allows for a critical assessment of status and motivation of the process of cognition on the part of the reader. This transgeneric narratological approach to the cognitive dimension of lyric poetry will first be demonstrated with the analysis of an older prototypical example, W. B. Yeats’s “The Second Coming”, and then applied to three recent, complex British-Irish poems, Eavan Boland’s “The Making of an Irish Goddess”, Kathleen Jamie’s “The Way We Live” and Paul Muldoon’s “Why Brownlee Left”, exemplifying the range of variation in which lyric poetry can perform and mediate mental processes of cognition.

Breed’s biblical pastoral model Scripturally grounded in 2 Peter 1:3–11: An exegetical elucidation: In his recent research, Gert Breed has formulated a biblical pastoral model. From his own publications as well as from publications of other researchers, it is clear that Breed’s model is of great value to pastoral counsellors. Although elements of the model are included in other people’s research publications, Breed has not yet published a complete description of his model. The purpose of this article is to provide Breed’s pastoral model with a biblical foundation from 2 Peter 1:3–11 within the context of the entire letter. The method used in this study was to do exegesis of 2 Peter 1:3–11 according to the grammatical-historical model, and to use the results of the exegesis to biblically ground the different elements of Breed’s pastoral model. The article found that seven important elements of Breed’s model can be Scripturally grounded in 2 Peter 1:3–11, namely: (1) the meta-theoretical starting point regarding the Bible as the Word of God; (2) the need for someone receiving counselling to be born again; (3) the importance of a counselee’s relationship with God; (4) change in the life of a counselee through insight; (5) external and internal motivation of a counselee; (6) perseverance in a new life; and (7) the counselee as diakonos of Jesus Christ. Breed’s pastoral model is already useful for pastoral counsellors. The exegetical grounding presented in this study increases the usefulness of the model.

The article attempts to show how an insight into the working of poetic texts could resonate with theoretical discussions about guilt. In the case of Clemens Brentano (1778–1842) this might prove to be especially pertinent since concepts of guilt and sin play an important part in his lifework. After discussing some aspects of Brentano's preoccupation with original, hereditary sin, I analyze his poem »Sey geduldig«. It seems to suggest that guilt generates guilt in a genuinely poetic way: not by hereditary transfer, but by proliferation and self-referentiality. Accordingly, guilt is productive inasmuch as it gives rise to its own repetition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on a comparison of all melodic versions of the Lied or Lieder Wohlauf, gut G’sell, von hinnen / Comment peult avoir joye that are transmitted with an unambiguous clue to one of the texts, this paper aims to provide reliable data and thus to add new perspectives to the controversial discussion on this Lied. In a second step, the melody, as it appears as cantus prius factus of the nine-voice motet Celorum decus Maria, is compared to the melodic versions derived from compositions clearly connected to one of the texts in the manuscript sources, to gain new insights on which of the texts can be associated with the motet and therefore on which basis an interpretation of the composition is possible. Maladherence is the most important factor in the prevention of neurotoxic and demoralizing relapses in schizophrenia. Empirical evidence is presented and organized in a conceptual four-level framework to address maladherence more effectively and to prevent the demoralizing role classical insight plays in its neglect of the underlying motivational processes in routine care. The four-level framework to address maladherence encompasses (a) functional analysis of (mal-)adherence as an instrumental goal-oriented behaviour, (b) addressing dysfunctional attitudes in relation to disorder and treatment, (c) techniques to strengthen the therapeutic bond and, finally, (d) focusing on the obstacles undermining an ability to adhere. This paper presents a version of a defense of the epistemic significance of insight (as a kind of intuition) in the process of human knowing. The position of Bernard Lonergan (1904-1984) laid out in Insight: A Study of Human Understanding (1957) is discussed. The relations between insight and the basic cognitional activities are analyzed. The analysis answers the question of the epistemic functions of insight in the process of acquiring knowledge. Insight accompanies all cognitional activities. In particular, it is essential in those activities that are crucial from the point of view of knowledge generation and evaluation. The way that insight functions as a component of central cognitional activities - for example in generalization and justification - allows us to argue that it is an essential and indispensable element of knowing. The paper consists of six sections: 1. Preliminary remarks; 2. The cognitional process as the object of study for cognitional theory; 3. The notion of insight and its properties; 4. The dynamic structure of knowing; 5. Functions of insight in the cognitional process - (a) the level of experience (b) the level of intelligence (c) the level of judgment. 6. Final remarks.

The paper discusses notions of intuition and insight. The most typical features attributed to intuition in the history of philosophy – receptiveness, passivity, immediateness, directness, self-evidence, infallibility, and indubitability – are analyzed. A variability of the notion of intuition is shown, taking as its example the category of insight, central for the epistemology of Bernard J.F. Lonergan (1904–1984), the twentieth-century philosopher locating between phenomenology, Thomism and hermeneutics. Insight is still in some respects a kind of intuition although it is creative, active, mediated, indirect, fallible and open to revision.

- Abstract
Catechetical instruction and books express the identity of confessions and display a social and political function. What they contain does refer to faith as a personal conviction. Principles of faith can be learned and added to the body of knowledge a person has at his or her disposal. However, this does not bring about inner certainty. Such a certainty can only be received as an insight disclosing existential sense. This corresponds to an epistemological principle saying that insight, for all efforts, is revealed in spite of oneself. Therefore, related to faith, for Martin Luther it is the Holy Spirit who lets human beings attain inner certainty. This contribution sees insight the basis of education and forming. - Abstract
Creativity is one of the most valued cognitive traits and the driver of human culture. However, little is known about its psychological and neurobiological basis - partly because originality and uniqueness as essential characteristics of creativity are elusive topics when it comes to systematic research. Historical anecdotes, theoretical considerations and an increasing number of empirical studies suggest that sleep plays a role in the genesis of creative achievements: sleep does not only help to consolidate newly acquired information, but also to reorganize existing knowledge structures, and hence functions as an incubation phase for creative ideas and original problem solutions. Cognitive and physiological models consider random processes, a renunciation from unsuccessful problem solving attempts, flat associative hierarchies, defocused attention or low/fluctuating prefrontal cortical activity as essential mechanisms underlying creative achievements. Strikingly, these features are also realized during sleep, particularly during REM sleep and during the course of the nocturnal cycle of sleep stages. Systematic research on creative incubation processes which are realized in the reorganization of knowledge structures during sleep are a promising yet understudied field in cognitive neuroscience. This study investigates recreational use of psychedelic drugs (LSD, hallucinogenic mushrooms) by qualitative methods, i.e. narrative interviews (n=32) and qualitative content analysis. Thematic dimensions: personal motivations and functions of use, typical consumption patterns, preferred settings of use, characteristics of subjective drug experiences, and cognitions about consequences. It was found that the onset of use can follow specific intentions and interest for psychedelics, or starts due to availability of hallucinogens. In the continuation of psychedelics use, one group reports the motivation of self exploration and search for spiritual insight, connected with moderate use in private settings, introspective drug experiences and perceived benefits. Another group reports hedonistic motivations (sensory enhancement, sensation seeking) and intensive use in public party settings. A third group reports multiple motivations with various combinations of heuristic and hedonistic functions of use. A central conclusion is that subjective motivations reflect personal set and socio-cultural setting, and tend to be confirmed like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

This paper aims at analyzing the status of epistemic discontinuity in the realm of Foucauldian archeology. The problem that I focus on is that of “fractured subjectivity” represented, in The Order of Things, by literary figures such as Don Quixote or Justine and Juliette. I move on to discuss the Foucauldian interpretation of Kantian anthropology in order to explore the epistemic function of what I previously called fractured subjectivity. These considerations lead us finally to a Fichtean radicalization of Kantian critical philosophy and its specific position in the Foucauldian archeology of human sciences.

Insight problems are creative solving problems used to assesscreativity in human participants, and empirically study insight-relatedprocesses. However, not many such problems exist, and once a partici-pant has been exposed to a particular problem, insight cannot be studiedanymore in that context. This paper proposes an approach for creatingmore insight problems in the practical object uses domain. This approachuses cognitive understanding of some of the processes that take part inthe solving of insight problems in this domain to create more such prob-lems, and is amenable to computational implementation. The manualcreation of a couple of such problems with this approach is described.Ways of making the approach computational are briefly discussed. 1767

In order to enable the InSight’s investigations of the Martian interior, the HP³-Mole has to hammer itself deeper below the surface of the red planet, than any other instrument before. In order to achieve this challenging goal, the dynamics of the impact driven locomotion as well as the mutual influence between the stroke cycle and the regolith need to be well understood. However it is not possible to observe the complex mechanism behaviour while the HP³-Mole is operating in Martian soil or terrestrial simulants. Thus numerical models are used to predict the dynamic behaviour on Mars. Given the different environmental conditions on Mars, these models need to be independent from any calibration under terrestrial conditions. To meet these demands, an enhanced multibody dynamics model of the inner hammering mechanism is coupled to several tiers of models for the regolith. The latter range from simple analytical models based on Rankines soil pressure theory, to very detailed particle based models using the Framework DEMETRIA. One of the most important applications of the model is to understand the effects of the mechanism’s interaction with the surrounding regolith. By covering both, mechanism and soil dynamics it is possible to observe soil deformation fields as well as the mechanism motion profiles at the same time. The gathered knowledge has been used in order to understand principle effects like e.g. wave propagation phenomena due to the impact driven locomotion. These detailed models can be used to study and understand the behaviour during operation phase. Additionally gained insights on the soil behaviour will also be useful in order to analyze and understand the actual conditions present on Mars by using data measured during the operation phase of the mechanism. As a big variety of measurements or prototypes are not realizable within the schedule and budget of low-cost missions, these virtual prototypes of the locomotion system also enabled the multi-criterial optimization of the hammering mechanism in order to meet the demands on penetration depth, durability and the friction based operational principle. As virtual prototypes also allow for damage free failure investigations, the models were applied to forensic engineering, i.e. the identification of failure causing points in the operational cycle. Using this technique it was possible to track down failure points in prototype mechanisms and thus to enhance the design without having to build or damage further prototypes. This approach can also be used to check flight-hardware and to identify the reason for possible non-conformance behaviour. The proposed technique for extensive virtual prototyping enables faster and more reliable designs in low-cost planetary exploration missions. The developed regolith models are also ready to be applied in future missions, enabling locomotion beneath as well as on planetary surfaces.

Re-representation and restructuring are processes relevant to creativity research. These are related to "seeing as", defined as the ability to represent features as different meaningful objects, and select and group objects as relevant structures for the problem at hand. Creative problem-solving, insight and the three types of creativity proposed by Boden are explored from the perspective of these terms. A set of essential questions to be answered by the cognitive systems discipline from the perspective of re-representational ability is put forward. Some of the implications of enabling re-representation and evaluating systems based on re-representation are then explored. 02-2015

Virtual reality will gain a more and more important role in our everyday life. So it is very important to understand fully the impact and influence virtual reality will have on or view of the world. This article reveals that the interdependencies between the real space and the virtual space are much more subtle and profound then on first sight. Especially the value of several mathematical, physical and biological models and simulation methodologies will be reestimated by the use of virtual reality in the long term. As an example the article describes the historical chain from quaternions to quaoaring and how this may lead to a paradigm change in biology.

Unawareness has been reported in a number of neuropsychiatric disorders. Although unawareness can be linked with considerable risks for the patients in everyday life and can have far-reaching implications for care, treatment and patient management, relatively little attention has been paid to anosognosia in the case of Alzheimer's disease, compared to other symptoms of the disease. With regard to frequency, severity and domain-specific differences, there seems to be a large inter- and intraindividual variability. Results from neuropsychologic measures and functional imaging suggest an involvement of frontal and parietal lobes of the non-dominant hemisphere in anosognosia. This article reviews the current status of knowledge of this topic including possible influencing variables and discusses the relationship between unawareness and depressive symptoms in demented patients.
