India has been ahead from beginning in production, consumption and export of tea. In addition to urban areas, today consumption of this beverage is rapidly rising in whole world, including remote villages, where milk was popular earlier. On other side, challenges like increase in cost of production and reduction in quality and export are arising. The neighboring nations. China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam etc. are producing tea at lower cost as compared to India. Sri Lanka tea is becoming popular in global market due to quality, which is a challenge for India. Hence, present research was carried out on tea estates located at north bank of Brahmputra in Assam during 2002-2008. It was found that 50 percent more area could be replanted every year by using farm machineries and their management, in place of human power. From that good quality tea could be produced with increased yield after 5 years. The reduction in energy consumption in production of tea could be achieved through proper maintenance of equipment. From that, cost of production could be reduced to tune of 21.50 percent One hundred to 300 metric tonne per hectare, biomass could be collected by uprooting old tea bushes and shade trees with equipment. Fuel saving, to extent of 23.5 to 27.50 percent could be done by using briquette manufactured from that biomass. All labourers of tea estate were encouraged to keep live stock and from that availability of manure prepared from dung increased and organic tea could be manufactured. The demand of organic tea was found rapidly increasing in developed countries. Two persons of a family having 5 members were provided employment by briquette units and through rearing animal resources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
