The Ponseti method for treating congenital clubfoot has recently been accepted and widely used worldwide, and in Hungary as well. The purpose of this study is to assess the results of treatments performed by the authors. 18 feet of 13 patients were treated with the Ponseti method between 2007 and 2011. The average plaster number was 9,6 (4-20), percutaneous achillotomy was performed on 10 feet, followed by applying Denis Browne splint. The patients were followed using Dimeglio and Pirani scores. Significant improvement was measured in all cases. Percutaneous achillotomy was performed in 62% of cases. So far, no other surgical interventions were needed. The Ponseti method proved to be efficient in treating congenital clubfoot. Acquisition of Denis Browne splint is currently complicated, but with proper measures it can be fitted well into the treatment. There were no wound or tendon complications after percutaneous achillotomy. In case of lack of compliance, the results are moderate, recurrence is more likely. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
