On 20 June 2022, Indonesian artists and art observers were shocked by the news that Taring Padi’s banner artwork entitled People’s Justice exhibited at Documenta Fifteen was interpreted by protesters as containing anti-Semitic elements. Taring Padi explained that his work was based on Indonesia’s political landscape during the New Order regime and had nothing to do with anti-Semitism. However, the banner was eventually dismantled on 21 June 2022. This brought up several interesting research questions pertaining to the chronological account of the incident, the causes of the incident, and actions that should have been taken by Taring Padi as a cultural agent. This research applied the qualitative method with critical discourse analysis approach. Results found that the incident occurred because of two main reasons. Firstly, the protesters were unwilling to ask the artist for any clarification and explanation. Secondly, Taring Padi was ignorant about elements which could be considered anti-Semitic because the concept is not particularly well-known in Indonesia. People’s Justice could actually serve as a medium for initiating dialogues between fellow artists and their audience. However, this work has potential drawbacks because it contains potentially misunderstood antagonism that narrows the interpretive space. This incident could have been prevented if the artist had provided sufficient room for dialogic interpretation and if the audience had been more open-minded, through which discursive encounters can be held to understand each other’s cultural and societal problems.

Authors of scientific articles are faced with two opposing demands: objectivity and critical evaluation when expressing reality and truth. To date, no evaluative language mapping has been performed on Indonesian scientific articles which can accurately describe an article’s degree of objectivity so that it can be used as a tool for objectivizing and negotiating truth. Using the appraisal framework, this research aims to identify and examine these two opposing orientations as they appear in Indonesian scientific articles. The qualitative approach was applied to perform in-depth analysis of interpersonal functions in scientific articles. Data in the form of Indonesian scientific articles were obtained from top ten highest impact factor journals which are accredited and indexed by the Science and Technology Index (SINTA), representing ten different scientific disciplines. Results show that the authors could not completely avoid subjectivity. However, objectivity was clearly sought through five strategies: passivation, verbalization, prioritization of verbs before explicit expressions of affect, nominalization, and prioritization of nouns before explicit expressions of affect. Using the appraisal framework, the modality theory in Indonesian (Alwi 1992), and the lexical semantic theory (Cruse 1986) as bases for data analysis, this research offers a taxonomic evaluative language map of Indonesian scientific articles. This research used the appraisal framework (Martin and White, 2005), especially the attitude and graduation system, to define boundaries while combining objective and evaluative- critical language in three parameters: (1) distance between the personal evaluation source and the evaluative item; (2) the prominence of agentivity and a person’s involvement in the actualization of events; and (3) the root meaning of evaluative lexemes.

This paper discusses the Kutau martial arts ritual practiced by the people of Suro Village, Muara Beliti District, Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra Province. Kutau is one of the ancestral heritages consisting of a set of rituals. Kutau takes the form of traditional martial arts that has been developed by the Suro Village community. Applying the qualitative approach, this study aimed to systematically document all forms of rituals in Kutau and its functions within the Suro community. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, which were then analyzed using Victor Turner’s ritual approach and Talcot Parsons’ function approach. Results show that Kutau is a medium of communication between the community and their ancestors to pass down the Kutau knowledge, which is closely related to Suro people’s belief system. Kutau still prevails thanks to the latency function of the Kutau community, so that the whole system is able to survive and adapt to the current society.

This paper aims to explore the intersubjective relationship between the whipper (paki) and the parrier (ta’ang) in caci, a traditional dance from Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara Province. For that purpose, this study applied the phenomenological method. In this method, caci is described based on what actually transpires during the performance when the researchers made direct observations. As a native Manggarai, the researcher has watched the dance for many years. Data from the phenomenological study were analyzed using Armada Riyanto’s philosophical concept of intersubjective relationality. This study found that the relationship between the whipper and the parrier in caci is not a subject-object but intersubjective one. The intersubjectivity of the whipper-parrier relationship is demonstrated by several facts. First, there is subjective identity of the whipper and parrier in the form of their names. Second, there is affirmation of identity and its confirmation during the dance. Third, the act of whipping and parrying does not involve a large group of people, but only the whipper and parrier as individual actors. Fourth, the whipper and parrier are aware of the other party’s presence and role. Fifth, the whipper is aware of the presence and role of the parrier and vice versa. Sixth, the whipper and parrier are encountering each other with mutual respect. The intersubjective element of the whipper-parrier relationship is highly relevant to the promotion of elegant intercultural dialogues in Indonesia.

This article is about Munanese (an ethnic group in Southeast Sulawesi) traditional dish kabasa as a form of referential support to the gastrodiplomacy trend. Kabasa is a part of the haroa ritual that features a range of dishes with various ingredients, which is strongly connected to various aspects of the community such as social position, psychology, and environment. In this study, a combination between linguistics as language science and gastronomy which examines food within its culture is considered effective for investigating the semantics of the naming pattern of kabasa dishes in order to document this unique culinary tradition and introduce new concepts in Indonesian gastronomy, particularly that of Southeast Sulawesi. Using the qualitative descriptive method and macrolinguistic approach, this study shows that kabasa naming pattern consists of three semantic levels. Meanwhile, more comprehensive gastrolinguistic analysis on the data suggests that the meanings of the names can be found based on (1) the food ingredients, which are tied to the region’s geographical features and (2) the semantic convention of kabasa itself, which shows an associative relationship between an object, its name, and environmental aspects as contextual clues.

Rambu Solo’ is one of the most expensive traditional funerals in the world. This has created a general impression that Rambu Solo’ must always be lavishly performed, although in reality it can be adjusted to the bereaved family’s financial circumstances. This research seeks to explain how Rambu Solo’ can be motivated by both urgency and prestige using Abraham Maslow’s humanistic psychology theory. This research applied the qualitative method. Data were collected by interviewing a traditional leader named Ambe Tawang with the aid of a local interpreter, Baharuddin Palepong, who lived in Lembang Palesan, Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi. After collection, the data were then analyzed, reduced, presented, and verified. This study found that only few people still perform Rambu Solo’ to gain prestige, while most people in Lembang Palesan perform it because of urgency factor, that has been passed down from generation to generation.

This research examines the toponymy of beaches in Belitung using the socio-onomastic approach. The names of beaches in Belitung Regency were studied using written and oral data. The written data was obtained from three maps, i.e., the map from the Geospatial Information Agency, the geological map of Belitung and the digital Google Maps. The oral data was obtained through interviews with resource persons and informants in Belitung. Based on map searches and interviews, seven beach names and the origin of their names have been obtained, as follows (i) Tanjung Tinggi Beach, (ii) Tanjung Pendam Beach, (iii), Penyabong Beach, (iv) Tanjung Kelayang Beach, (v) Tanjung Binga Beach, (vi) Bukit Berahu Beach, and (vii) Batu Bedil Beach. In addition to these beaches, there may be other beach names worth examining. Beach names in Belitung Regency have four naming patterns: (i) beach toponyms with elements of topography, (ii) beach toponyms with elements of topography and fauna, (iii) beach toponyms with elements of topography and flora, and (iv) beach toponyms with elements of sound. Sometimes, a beach has more than one name. From socio-onomastics perspective, it is a natural phenomena, because names of place have various characteristics and influence people’s preferences in using names.

This article tryes to initiate the concept of Minangkabau rhythm syllables, which is a method in music learning related to audiation in rhythm learning, the urgency in this study explores the basic elements of the audiation system that can be applied to music learning related to rhythm syllables based on local approaches, taking into account previous concepts that have been popular in recent schools. In West Sumatra, the concepts of syllable rhythm such as Zoltan Kodaly, Kannokol, American Style Syllables, and Edwin Gordon are not so popular, but environments such as schools and art studios have their own ways of approaching learning music related to pronouncing sounds, so that in this study it is addressed as an interesting and crucial thing to study and formulate further into formulations. The method used in this research uses a qualitative paradigm with a literature review approach. Where the concept of previous rhythmic syllables is used as a reference in analyzing, bringing up findings, and juxtaposing the findings with the initiated Minangkabau rhythmic syllable formula, so that the Minangkabau rhythmic syllables can be generalized and adapted, but still referring to the habits of the local community material. Based on the results of the analysis, like Gordon’s concept, it is found that syllables or audiation appear after the formation of rhythms, patterns and sound colors from an instrument, which can then strengthen the form of audiation into verbal form.

The research aims to reveal the factors which contribute to the unique characteristics of Semarangan gending. Analysis involved four theories: Rahayu Supanggah’s garap theory, Stenberg’s creativity theory, C. A. van Peursen’s cultural development theory, and Marc Benamou’s rasa theory. There were three stages of data collection: literature study, observation, and interview. Results show three main characteristics of Semarangan gending: irama and laya, garap ricikan, and vocal garap. The tabuhan from this ricikan shows integration of musical styles from other areas, such as Yogyakarta, Banyumas, Surakarta, and East Java. In Semarangan gending, there are rasa of sigrak, prenès, and gobyog because of the support of gérong, keplok, and alok. To sum up, Semarangan gending has a high cultural value because it is widely enjoyed by both the art community and art consumers in general.

This research aims to discover the role of skin diseases in the narrative structure of M. Bakir’s Hikayat Agung Sakti as well as its surrounding ideological, social, political, and cultural contexts. Mieke Bal’s narratological theory was applied to map and analyze the elements of the fabula: event, time, actor, and location. Methodologically, this research consisted of two levels: text and context. At the first level, lingual data were collected using the note-taking technique and then explained interpretatively using relevant theoretical concepts. At the second level, data were collected through literature study on ideology and context. The text and context data were explained through dialectics and interreference. This research yielded several main results. First, skin diseases (itches, smallpox, scabs, and Tinea corporis) are attached to the elements of the fabula. These diseases change circumstances, shape events and time, infect the characters (the Gods), and change the locations (from heaven to earth). Skin diseases were found to be the building block of the narrative structure. In this role, skin diseases become a means of articulating Islamism. This narrative is linked to the development of Islam in Malay-speaking lands and political resistance to polytheistic Hinduism, which is placed in opposition to the monotheistic Islam which places Allah as the only deity. This ideology was articulated and written down as a literary work to be disseminated among local Straits-born Chinese. This is also contextually related to the issues of manuscript rental, diseases in Malay tradition, and spread of diseases in Batavia in the 19th century.

This research aims to reveal Korean’s perspectives on plastic surgery practices through a corpus-based text analysis of Korean online newspapers. The research used quantitative and qualitative methods to observe keywords, significant collocates, and semantic preference. The data used were 106 opinion articles about plastic surgery in Chosun Ilbo and Donga Ilbo (2010–2019). Keyword analysis shows that the most frequently used keywords are seonghyeong (189 times) and seonghyeongsusul (116 times). Analysis of significant collocates and semantic preferences revealed that plastic surgery was frequently discussed in relation to body parts, people (collocate yeoseong (women), junggukin (Chinese), hwanja (patient), gwangganggek (tourist)), country (collocate jungguk (China), hangguk (Korea)), intensity (gwadohan (excessive)), and effect (phihae (loss)), and others. Plastic surgery clinics are frequently addressed in terms of location (collocate Gangnam, Seoul), intensity (collocate daehyong (big scale)), and others. Based on the findings of this study, plastic surgery is primarily performed on local women and international patients, particularly Chinese tourists. Plastic surgery is also perceived as having a negative impact, being overdone, and causing numerous difficulties. Plastic surgery performed on foreign patients is considered as beneficial to Korean economic progress, but it should not be performed on Koreans.

This research explores the cooperation of multiethnic communities and the formation of a farmer mentality in East Kolaka District, Southeast Sulawesi Province, in building food security. The purpose of this study is to understand how the interaction between diverse ethnic groups in East Kolaka society affects the way farmers manage agricultural resources and shape their mentality regarding agriculture so as to realize food security. The cultural interaction among multi-ethnic communities serves as a collective strength in East Kolaka District to address food scarcity and to build a food security system, which has not been optimally examined and elucidated in previous studies. Using qualitative approach, data was collected using in-depth interview and observation. This study was conducted in East Kolaka District, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The total number of informants is fourteen, including rice farmers, community leaders, members of farmer groups, agricultural extension workers, and village and sub-district government officials. The study shows that various ethnic groups have unique agricultural practices, traditional techniques, and different local knowledge. The interaction between these groups has resulted in an exchange of knowledge and experience, which in turn affects the mentality of farmers positively in the face of environmental and social changes, and can build their food security and even surplus. These findings have important implications in efforts to improve food security and agricultural sustainability in East Kolaka, as well as encourage inter-ethnic cooperation in the context of agriculture. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexities of multi-ethnic societies and how interactions between these groups can shape peasant mentalities. The findings of this study can be an input for policymakers in designing more inclusive and sustainable strategies in agricultural resource management in similar regions.

The synergy between the craftsmen group and the tourism sector will not only boost the local economy, but also ensure that this rich cultural heritage is preserved and appreciated by future generations. While previous research mostly deals with Although previous research mostly discussed the tourism potential in Paksebali Village, this article focuses on craftsmen who can create various types of products that are attractive to tourists, such as Endek Cloth Weaving Craft, Tedung, Prada Bludru Craft, Lontek Craft, Gambelan Bali Craft, Topeng Bali Craft. This diversification helps attract tourists who have a variety of preferences. This qualitative research was conducted in Paksebali village, Dawan Subdistrict, Klungkung Regency, Bali. Data was collected using the combination between in-depth interview and observations. The informants who participated in this research are craftsmen in Paksebali village, as my case studies. The findings show that through synergies between the craftsmen group and the tourism sector, there is a mutually beneficial exchange of value. Tourists gain experience and quality products, while the craftsmen gain the opportunity to increase their income and expand their market. In addition to economic benefits, these collaborations also have an impact on the preservation of local culture. Craftsmen products often reflect the history, tradition, and identity of a region. With increasing tourist interest in these products, the group of craftsmen is encouraged to continue to preserve and develop their expertise. Craftsmen in Paksebali Village can help increase the village's attractiveness as a tourist destination, while maintaining and preserving local cultural heritage. It is recommended that Craftsmen in Paksebali Village is expected to improve quality and innovation in craft products, setting up a craft centre or gallery, working with tourism agencies, conducting digital marketing and promotion, improving the packaging of craft products to make them more attractive, actively participating in exhibitions and festivals as well as cultural preservation and education.

This study aims to examine the implications of changes in urban space as a result of the implementation of government policies in the development and expansion of the city of Siak on the existence of community space and how the community seizes and utilizes spaces of the industry and government to maintain their subsistence economic life. This study uses a rapid ethnography approach. Researchers conduct a desk study before fieldwork to obtain an initial research report. Researchers stayed in Siak District for 40 days to conduct observations, in-depth interviews, informal conversations, and stakeholder discussions. We conducted Focus Group Discussions (FGD) in the four research villages. The event was attended by 28 participants from four villages, comprising village heads, homemakers, peasants, small traders/street vendors, freelance workers, and NGOs at the district level. The study shows that the four research villages have changed from subsistence community spaces to industrial and government spaces. In this research, the community space is becoming increasingly limited, so people carry out two strategies in seizing industrial and government spaces, namely using government spaces to become places for work and business and controlling industrial spaces, Even though this can give rise to latent and manifest tenure conflicts, corporate and society's urban space becomes an arena for struggling for the means of production represented through control and ownership of space. Society must adapt to these conditions to obtain space for them. Government policies in developing and expanding the city of Siak have not taken the community's interests as the primary goal.

The Reformation era in Indonesia has resulted in changes in local politics, particularly in relation to ethnic-based groups or adat politics. However, previous studies that have focused on the rise of adat or tradition in local politics have paid limited attention to the dynamics of cultural expression and representation. This article aims to shed light on the reconstruction of ethnic identity among the Belunguh people in Lampung within multiethnic society. To achieve this, an ethnographic inquiry was conducted with the Belunguh people of the Lampung Sai Batin sub-ethnic group, specifically exploring their marriage patterns and rituals. The data collection methods consisted of interview, focus group discussions (FGD), and observation involving twelve informants from traditional leaders (penyimbang adat). The findings of the study highlight the significance of marriage systems and rituals in the construction of Belunguh ethnic identity. While intra-ethnic relations are shaped by marriage practices and rituals of semanda and metudau, the practice of tekhang emerges to facilitate inter-ethnic marriages, particularly with the Javanese. The Belunguh people strive to enhance their awareness of identity by modifying marriage rituals, which reflect their social status, hierarchy, and cultural adaptation in a multiethnic society.

This article aims to center on the variety of styles of lengger - a traditional art found in Banyumas, Central Java, Indonesia. The article offers a new approach towards understanding lengger by indicating the development that underwent in the performance structure. The study was conducted in Banyumas, Central Java, Indonesia for the period of over a year, between 2022 and early 2024. Using qualitative approach, this study is aimed to explore the variety of the dance practiced by local actors. By using qualitative approach, data was collected using in-depth and semi-structured interviews and participatory observation. There are 13 participants that participated in this study, consisting of local figures engaged in various lengger activities, such as dancers, teachers, and owners of dance studios. The study indicates that lengger evolved greatly in terms of its dance performance. In order to demonstrate this, I use “dance fragments” – a specific moments of performance, time and space to indicate the development of the art’s structure, based on personal etnographic study. Nine varieties of lengger were identified – lengger klasik, lengger barangan, lengger resmi, lengger muslimah, lengger garapan, lengger calung barasai, lengger selingan, lengger campursari, and lengger modern. Pointing out the various styles of lengger helps further understand the cultural processes and current trends of the society in Banyumas. Having these changes in its structure where dominant trends overshadow the traditional understanding is a way of keeping the art alive, while lengger’s peaceful cohabitation with other arts speaks about the tolerant nature of people in Banyumas.

Currently, climate change poses a threat to agriculture, including in the Bengawan Solo watershed. This study aims to explore farmers' perceptions of climate change and understand the adaptations they undertake. The study was conducted in Mejuwet Village, Sumberrejo Subdistrict, Bojonegoro Regency, using qualitative. This study involved six informants, consisting of three farmers and three farm laborers. The selection of informants was based on the criterion of having more than ten years of experience in farming. Data was collected using in-depth interview and observation. Subsequently, the data were analyzed using an interactive model. The study indicates that farmers have knowledge of and can articulate the climate changes they have encountered, albeit with some limitations in understanding, and they actively participate in adaptation efforts. Farmer adaptation encompasses technical modifications like establishing planting schedules and methods, and choosing high-quality varieties. Cultural adaptation encompasses traditions like the wiwitan ceremony. Social adaptation involves using social connections and prioritizing investments in children's schooling. Lastly, economic adaptation involves broadening job opportunities and liquidating assets.

Studies on indigenous communities have been conducted with various results on cultural elements as their research focus. Language, as one of those elements, is an essential factor in the survival of the traditions and beliefs. This article discusses how the Jalawastu community maintains their indigenous language of Brebes Sundanese dialect in Javanese-speaking culture in Central Java. The novelty of this study was to discover how the traditional community perceived their language, why they needed to maintain it, and what obstacles they had in the process. This ethnographic research was conducted in Jalawastu Cultural Village in Desa Ciseureuh, Kecamatan Ketanggungan, Kabupaten Brebes between October 2022 and May 2023. Data was collected using in-depth interviews and observation. Those who participated in this study were kuncen, (cultural council chief), pemangku adat (traditional ruler), kepala dusun (the village chief), and Jalawastu community member. The study revealed that the community attempted to maintain their dialect because they viewed the importance of their language in their daily verbal interaction, both in social activities and rituals, and the need to hold their social identity as Jalawastu village members. The attempt to preserve the use of the language was based on the social belief, that is, to respect their ancestors in order to avoid misfortunes. These efforts were once hindered when the provincial government imposed the language policy to teach only Javanese in elementary schools instead of Sundanese. With Brebes Bupati's regional decrees, they could eventually teach back the language in formal elementary schools.

This research aims to describe the acculturation of Islam and local culture in the tradition of animal slaughter at funeral ceremonies preserved by the Padang Bolak community, as part of the religious system reflecting the community's understanding of the Hadith. This study is a field study employing a qualitative method within the framework of living Hadith theory. The research findings indicate that this tradition of animal slaughter at funeral ceremonies in the community is motivated by several factors, including efforts to preserve customs and culture, as an act of devotion to parents, the deceased's will to conduct an animal slaughter before passing away, to honor guests, maintain the good name of the deceased parents within the community, as an expression of love for parents, and the belief that the merits of charity performed on that day will benefit the deceased. In Islamic legal studies, this tradition is fundamentally contradictory to Islamic teachings in all its processes and requirements. The acculturation of Islam with this tradition has led to modifications that eliminate elements conflicting with Islamic teachings. Further studies are needed on how such modifications can aid in understanding and potentially guiding the process of cultural adaptation in other Islamic communities. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan akulturasi Islam dan budaya lokal dalam tradisi penyembelihan hewan pada upacara pemakaman yang dipertahankan oleh komunitas Padang Bolak, sebagai bagian dari sistem religius yang mencerminkan pemahaman masyarakat tentang Hadits. Studi ini adalah studi lapangan yang menggunakan metode kualitatif dalam kerangka teori Hadits hidup. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi penyembelihan hewan pada upacara pemakaman di komunitas tersebut didorong oleh beberapa faktor, termasuk upaya untuk melestarikan adat dan budaya, sebagai tindakan pengabdian kepada orang tua, keinginan almarhum untuk melakukan penyembelihan hewan sebelum meninggal, untuk menghormati tamu, mempertahankan nama baik orang tua yang telah meninggal di dalam komunitas, sebagai ungkapan cinta kepada orang tua, dan keyakinan bahwa pahala amal yang dilakukan pada hari itu akan menguntungkan almarhum. Dalam studi hukum Islam, tradisi ini secara mendasar bertentangan dengan ajaran Islam dalam semua proses dan persyaratannya. Akulturasi Islam dengan tradisi ini telah mengarah pada modifikasi yang menghilangkan elemen-elemen yang bertentangan dengan ajaran Islam. Studi lebih lanjut diperlukan tentang bagaimana modifikasi tersebut dapat membantu dalam memahami dan berpotensi mengarahkan proses adaptasi budaya di komunitas Islam lainnya.

This research aims to elucidate the relationship between religion, local wisdom, and power relations in the dynamics of Madurese community life from an Islamic perspective, religious scripture texts, and social theory. The research employs qualitative methods focusing on the Madura community as a distinct ethnic group in conducting social interactions and identifying language expressions that symbolize everyday peace. This study employs various data collection methods, including observation, interviews, and documentation. A thorough examination of the dynamics of religion, traditional knowledge, and power dynamics within the Madurese community serves as the data analysis technique employed in this study. By focusing on ontological and epistemological issues, this research utilizes social theory and an Islamic viewpoint to conceptually explain the study of religion, local wisdom, and power relations. The findings show that the Madurese people are known for their unwavering commitment to togetherness, balance, peace, and harmony. This is reflected in 'rampak naong bringen korong,' a concept of local wisdom that represents their deeply ingrained cultural values and moderate religious teachings. These insights hold implications for further studies in exploring the practical applications of local wisdom in promoting social cohesion, governance effectiveness, and community well-being. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan hubungan antara agama, kearifan lokal, dan hubungan kekuasaan dalam dinamika kehidupan masyarakat Madura dari perspektif Islam, teks-teks agama, dan teori sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif yang berfokus pada komunitas Madura sebagai kelompok etnis yang berbeda dalam melakukan interaksi sosial dan mengidentifikasi ekspresi bahasa yang melambangkan perdamaian sehari-hari. Studi ini menggunakan berbagai metode pengumpulan data, termasuk observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Pemeriksaan menyeluruh terhadap dinamika agama, pengetahuan tradisional, dan dinamika kekuasaan dalam komunitas Madura berfungsi sebagai teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Dengan memfokuskan pada isu ontologis dan epistemologis, penelitian ini menggunakan teori sosial dan sudut pandang Islam untuk menjelaskan secara konseptual studi tentang agama, kearifan lokal, dan hubungan kekuasaan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat Madura dikenal karena komitmennya yang teguh terhadap kebersamaan, keseimbangan, perdamaian, dan harmoni. Hal ini tercermin dalam 'rampak naong bringen korong,' sebuah konsep kearifan lokal yang mewakili nilai-nilai budaya mereka yang sangat tertanam dan ajaran agama yang moderat. Temuan ini memiliki implikasi untuk penelitian lebih lanjut dalam mengeksplorasi aplikasi praktis kearifan lokal dalam mempromosikan kohesi sosial, efektivitas tata kelola, dan kesejahteraan masyarakat.

The world of education today faces a variety of complex and diverse challenges. One significant challenge is the shift towards the industrial era 4.0, which potentially negatively impacts student morals. This study explores the concept of Sufism akhlaqi as proposed by experts and its implications for teaching Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at a university in Indonesia, aiming to strengthen students' noble morals. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a descriptive-analytical method through literature review. The findings of this study indicate that: (1) Sufism akhlaqi emphasizes the purification of the soul to strengthen students' noble character; (2) The implications of the Sufism akhlaqi concept for IRE teaching support the instructional objectives of fostering faith and piety in students, while also focusing on promoting noble morals. IRE learning materials should integrate the values of Sufism akhlaqi in each relevant subject, and lecturers must serve as role models of noble morals. Dunia pendidikan saat ini menghadapi berbagai tantangan yang kompleks dan beragam. Salah satu tantangan yang cukup besar adalah peralihan menuju era industri 4.0 yang berpotensi memberikan dampak negatif terhadap moral mahasiswa. Penelitian ini mendalami konsep tasawuf akhlaqi yang dikemukakan oleh para ahli dan implikasinya dalam pengajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam (IRE) di salah satu universitas di Indonesia, yang bertujuan untuk memantapkan akhlak mulia mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif-analitis melalui tinjauan pustaka. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) tasawuf akhlaqi menekankan pada penyucian jiwa untuk memperkuat akhlak mulia peserta didik; (2) Implikasi konsep tasawuf akhlaqi terhadap pengajaran IRE mendukung tujuan pembelajaran untuk menumbuhkan keimanan dan ketakwaan pada peserta didik, sekaligus fokus pada peningkatan akhlak mulia. Materi pembelajaran IRE hendaknya mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai tasawuf akhlaqi pada setiap mata pelajaran yang relevan, dan dosen harus menjadi teladan akhlak mulia.

The rise of sexual harassment perpetrated by religious figures in Islamic educational institutions has raised doubts about the role and objectives of these institutions in Aceh. This research aims to determine how sexual harassment is influenced by religious culture and the impact of such cases on the image of Islamic educational institutions. It is qualitative-descriptive in nature. Data were collected using observation, interviews, and documentation instruments. Meanwhile, data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis. The results show that cult-like practices contribute to sexual harassment in Islamic educational institutions as part of the religious culture within these institutions. The strength of these cult practices, as part of the religious culture, is intertwined with the role of patriarchal culture and paternalistic leadership deeply rooted in society. This harassment occurs through the abuse of religious dogma, such as the method of transferring metaphysical knowledge. With the continued increase in cases of sexual harassment within Islamic educational institutions, parents have grown doubtful about the educational process in institutions run by religious figures, leading them to prefer general educational institutions instead. This finding is helpful for understanding the causes and methods of preventing the recurrence of sexual harassment in Islamic educational institutions. Maraknya pelecehan seksual yang dilakukan oleh tokoh agama di lembaga pendidikan Islam telah menimbulkan keraguan tentang peran dan tujuan lembaga-lembaga tersebut di Aceh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan bagaimana pelecehan seksual dipengaruhi oleh budaya agama dan dampak kasus-kasus tersebut terhadap citra lembaga pendidikan Islam. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif-deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan instrumen observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Sementara itu, analisis data dilakukan menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik-praktik seperti sekte berkontribusi terhadap pelecehan seksual di lembaga pendidikan Islam sebagai bagian dari budaya agama dalam lembaga-lembaga tersebut. Kekuatan praktik-praktik sekte ini, sebagai bagian dari budaya agama, terkait erat dengan peran budaya patriarki dan kepemimpinan paternalistik yang sangat tertanam dalam masyarakat. Pelecehan ini terjadi melalui penyalahgunaan dogma agama, seperti metode transfer pengetahuan metafisik. Dengan terus meningkatnya kasus pelecehan seksual di lembaga pendidikan Islam, orang tua semakin meragukan proses pendidikan di lembaga-lembaga yang dijalankan oleh tokoh agama, sehingga mereka cenderung memilih lembaga pendidikan umum. Temuan ini berguna untuk memahami penyebab dan metode pencegahan berulangnya pelecehan seksual di lembaga pendidikan Islam.

Derived from the dimension of locality, terebang merges Sundanese ethnic and Islamic elements into a distinctive music genre. This article explores the forms of the Sundanese Islamic musical genre and how this genre is utilized at Islamic ritual events and on the urban stage. With the involvement of cultural activists supporting the Candralijaya band, this research also examines the challenges and criticisms from various groups concerning the integration of ethnicity and Islam. Based on an ethnographic expedition in Tasikmalaya, West Java, the findings reveal a unique significance in this genre that is not evident in other parts of Indonesia or the Muslim world, such as in the Middle East and Pakistan. This study highlights the importance of expressing 'Sundanese-Islamic feelings' through musical performance art. It argues that this music genre embodies a vernacular meaning born from two distinct origins, yet it has created a distinctive genre. This confirms that both sources maintain specific boundaries, each with its own unique 'flavors.' Future studies could explore how these musical performances can foster intercultural dialogue and understanding in diverse societies, potentially serving as a bridge between different religious and ethnic communities. Artikel ini mengeksplorasi bentuk-bentuk genre musik Islam Sunda dan bagaimana genre ini digunakan dalam acara ritual Islam dan di panggung urban. Dengan keterlibatan aktivis budaya yang mendukung band Candralijaya, penelitian ini juga mengkaji tantangan dan kritik dari berbagai kelompok mengenai integrasi etnisitas dan Islam. Berdasarkan ekspedisi etnografi di Tasikmalaya, Jawa Barat, temuan ini mengungkapkan sebuah keunikan dalam genre ini yang tidak terlihat di bagian lain Indonesia atau dunia Muslim, seperti di Timur Tengah dan Pakistan. Studi ini menyoroti pentingnya mengekspresikan 'perasaan Islam-Sunda' melalui seni pertunjukan musikal. Argumennya adalah bahwa genre musik ini mengandung makna vernakular yang berasal dari dua sumber berbeda, namun telah menciptakan genre yang berbeda. Ini membenarkan bahwa kedua sumber tersebut mempertahankan batas-batas tertentu, masing-masing dengan 'rasa' uniknya sendiri. Studi mendatang dapat mengeksplorasi bagaimana pertunjukan musik ini dapat mendorong dialog dan pemahaman lintas budaya dalam masyarakat yang beragam, berpotensi menjadi jembatan antara komunitas agama dan etnik yang berbeda.

This paper explores the perspective of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia, on the relationship between Islam and citizenship, and how its Humanitarian Islam initiative fosters peace and harmony among Muslims and non-Muslims. Using a literature review method, it examines the historical and conceptual background of Islam and citizenship and their relevance and implications in the context of Indonesia. It argues that NU and Humanitarian Islam view Islam and citizenship as compatible and mutually beneficial, based on the Islamic values and principles that are in line with the ideals and norms of citizenship. It also analyzes the main features and achievements of NU and Humanitarian Islam in promoting and practicing Islam and citizenship in Indonesia and beyond, such as their role in countering extremism, advancing democracy, and enhancing social justice. It discusses the challenges and opportunities that NU and Humanitarian Islam encounter in the contemporary world, such as the rise of Islamophobia, the impact of globalization, and the need for interfaith dialogue. It concludes that NU and Humanitarian Islam can serve as a model and a catalyst for the Muslim world and humanity at large, to foster a more peaceful, tolerant, and inclusive society. Makalah ini mengeksplorasi perspektif Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), organisasi Islam terbesar di Indonesia, mengenai hubungan antara Islam dan kewarganegaraan, serta bagaimana inisiatif Islam Humanitarian mereka mempromosikan perdamaian dan harmoni di antara umat Muslim dan non-Muslim. Dengan menggunakan metode tinjauan literatur, makalah ini mengkaji latar belakang historis dan konseptual Islam dan kewarganegaraan serta relevansi dan implikasinya dalam konteks Indonesia. Makalah ini berargumen bahwa NU dan Islam Humanitarian memandang Islam dan kewarganegaraan sebagai hal yang kompatibel dan saling menguntungkan, berdasarkan nilai dan prinsip Islam yang selaras dengan ide dan norma kewarganegaraan. Makalah ini juga menganalisis fitur utama dan pencapaian NU dan Islam Humanitarian dalam mempromosikan dan mempraktikkan Islam dan kewarganegaraan di Indonesia dan lebih luas, seperti peran mereka dalam menangkal ekstremisme, memajukan demokrasi, dan meningkatkan keadilan sosial. Selanjutnya, makalah ini membahas tantangan dan peluang yang dihadapi NU dan Islam Humanitarian di dunia kontemporer, seperti munculnya Islamofobia, dampak globalisasi, dan kebutuhan akan dialog antariman. Makalah ini menyimpulkan bahwa NU dan Islam Humanitarian dapat berfungsi sebagai model dan katalisator bagi dunia Muslim dan umat manusia secara luas, untuk membina masyarakat yang lebih damai, toleran, dan inklusif.

Various Lasem batik motifs have been widely researched in Indonesia, but no one has researched the Lasem batik motifs using social semiotic analysis. The research aims to determine the meaning of Lasem batik motifs using a social semiotic analysis approach, understand the function of Lasem batik patterns and motifs, and determine their influence on the social life of the Lasem community. The approach used in this research is qualitative. The data collection methods used are observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The data analysis used in this research uses two types of analysis, namely content analysis and descriptive analysis. The results of the research explain that there are several meanings contained in Lasem's batik motifs, such as the meaning of togetherness, prosperity, caring, sincerity (not giving up), spreading goodness, rejecting evil, patience (holding back anger), and seriousness in living life. The use of batik is the style of the people who own it. Laseman Batik has experienced a shift in meaning and function. The transmission of values and meanings of batik motifs continues to be instilled in the community so that they become shared knowledge and can have implications for people's attitudes and behaviors among partners. Ragam motif batik Lasem telah banyak diteliti di Indonesia, namun belum ada yang meneliti motif batik Lasem ini dengan analisis semiotic social. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pemaknaan motif batik Lasem dengan pendekatan analisis semiotic social, memahami fungsi corak dan motif batik Lasem serta mengetahui pengaruhnya terhadap kehidupan social masyarakat Lasem. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah pengamatan atau observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara mendalam. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan dua jenis analisis yaitu analisis isi dan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa Terdapat beberapa makna yang terkandung dalam motif-motif batik tulis Lasem, seperti: makna kebersamaan, kesejahteraan, kepedulian, kesungguhan (tidak putus asa), menyebar kebaikan, tolak bala, sabar (Menahan amarah), kesungguhan menjalani kehidupan. Penggunaan batik merupakan style masyarakat sebagai pemiliknya. Batik Laseman telah mengalami pergeseran makna dan fungsi. Transmisi nilai-nilai dan makna motif batik terus ditanamkan kepada masyarakat agar menjadi pengetahuan bersama dan pada gilirannya dapat berimplikasi kepada sikap dan perilaku masyarakat.

The delivery of Islamic preaching can be effectively conducted through cultural approaches, such as the Gayo tradition of melengkan in Aceh. This tradition involves delivering speeches at wedding ceremonies using metaphorical sentences that embed Islamic messages. It serves as a valuable means of preaching and merits preservation. However, the tradition faces challenges due to the declining number of people skilled in the art of melengkan. It is hoped that local government policies will support training the next generation in the art of melengkan to prevent this tradition from becoming extinct. This research aims to analyze the forms and preaching values within the tradition, employing a descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection is conducted through interviews with key informants, including performers of melengkan, traditional leaders, and community figures from the Gayo community. Observations of traditional wedding ceremonies and analysis of melengkan speech texts are supplemented with other literature. The research findings indicate that the cultural preaching messages in melengkan include informative, persuasive, and coercive types. The values embodied within these messages encompass beliefs, worship or Sharia, and morality. Further studies could explore broader applications of cultural preaching values in multicultural settings worldwide, offering a model for other regions with similar cultural and religious dynamics. Penyampaian dakwah Islam dapat dilakukan secara efektif melalui pendekatan budaya, seperti tradisi melengkan di Aceh. Tradisi ini melibatkan penyampaian pidato dalam upacara pernikahan menggunakan kalimat metaforis yang menyertakan pesan-pesan Islam. Ini merupakan sarana berharga untuk berdakwah dan layak untuk dilestarikan. Namun, tradisi ini menghadapi tantangan karena menurunnya jumlah orang yang terampil dalam seni melengkan. Diharapkan kebijakan pemerintah daerah akan mendukung pelatihan generasi berikutnya dalam seni melengkan untuk mencegah kepunahan tradisi ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk dan nilai-nilai dakwah dalam tradisi tersebut, menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara dengan informan kunci, termasuk pelaku melengkan, pemimpin tradisional, dan tokoh masyarakat dari komunitas Gayo. Observasi upacara pernikahan tradisional dan analisis teks pidato melengkan dilengkapi dengan literatur lainnya. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pesan dakwah budaya dalam melengkan mencakup tipe informatif, persuasif, dan koersif. Nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam pesan-pesan ini mencakup kepercayaan, ibadah atau Syariah, dan moral. Studi lanjutan bisa mengeksplorasi aplikasi luas nilai-nilai dakwah budaya di lingkungan multikultural di seluruh dunia, menawarkan model untuk wilayah lain dengan dinamika budaya dan agama yang serupa.

This study examines the acculturation of Islam in the implementation of the Kabumi tradition in Lebuawu Village, Pecangaan District, Jepara Regency, Central Java. It employed a qualitative descriptive method to describe the cultural facts surrounding the traditional Kabumi celebration. The findings show that the Kabumi tradition has become a traditional celebration as a form of gratitude by the people of Lebuawu Village to the Creator for allowing them to live on Earth by His grace. They heavily rely on the earth to grow crops, obtain food and drink, and carry out other activities. As a result, they perform earth alms as a way to express their gratitude to the earth. Additionally, the alms to the earth also represent a form of gratitude for the salvation and sustenance received by the community, and are believed to bring protection to their fields, ensuring abundant harvests. The acculturation of Islam in the implementation of Kabumi also teaches the community to always maintain an attitude of tolerance among people of different religions, as this acculturation preserves local traditions that characterize this custom. Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang akulturasi Islam dalam pelaksanaan tradisi Kabumi di Desa Lebuawu, Kecamatan Pecangaan, Kabupaten Jepara, Jawa Tengah. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk mendeskripsikan fakta budaya seputar perayaan adat Kabumi. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi Kabumi telah menjadi perayaan adat sebagai wujud rasa syukur masyarakat Desa Lebuawu kepada Sang Pencipta yang telah mengizinkan mereka hidup di bumi atas karunia-Nya. Mereka sangat bergantung pada bumi untuk bercocok tanam, memperoleh makanan dan minuman, serta melakukan aktivitas lainnya. Oleh karena itu, mereka melakukan sedekah bumi sebagai wujud rasa syukurnya terhadap bumi. Selain itu, sedekah bumi juga merupakan wujud rasa syukur atas keselamatan dan rezeki yang diterima masyarakat, serta dipercaya dapat memberikan perlindungan pada ladangnya dan menjamin hasil panen yang melimpah. Akulturasi Islam dalam pelaksanaan Kabumi juga mengajarkan masyarakat untuk selalu menjaga sikap toleransi antar umat yang berbeda agama, karena akulturasi ini melestarikan tradisi lokal yang menjadi ciri adat tersebut.

The Kangean Islands, Madura, serve as a transit hub for traders and fishermen from various regions, including the Bugis ethnic that migrated to the Kangean Islands in the past few decades. Interaction and adaptation carried out by the Bugis ethnic and native in the Kangean islands is able to bridge the differences between these ethnicities.This article analyses the structural assimilation of the Bugis community with the natives on the Kangean island, especially at the grassroots level. This research used the fenomenology approach. Data collection is conducted through in-depth interviews. The findings proved that the process of cultural assimilation of Sulawesi culture in Kangean island, particularly in the Arjasa sub-district can be considered successful, especially when observing the limited conflicts that occur. Structural assimilation has reached a broader scale, encompassing the participation of Bugis community in various aspect. In education, interactions with Bugis culture primarily occur informally in activities organized by the Sulawesi Student Association. In economic, structural assimilation is evident in the mutual acceptance of job opportunities and interdependence in economic resources. Within governmental institutions and organizations, assimilation is achieved by building awareness and understanding of ethnic diversity, maintaining a balance of governance rights between Kangean and Bugis people. Cancer prevalence in Indonesia presents a substantial challenge to healthcare, particularly affecting the young-adult demographic. As survival rates improve due to advancements in treatment, the long-term quality of life (QOL) for survivors becomes increasingly paramount. This qualitative study explores the social representation of acupuncture among young-adult cancer survivors in Jakarta, analyzing its role in managing persistent side effects post-treatment. In-depth interviews with five survivors reveal acupuncture as a multifaceted intervention perceived as less invasive and more aligned with natural bodily processes compared to conventional therapies. Findings indicate that acupuncture is not only employed to alleviate physical symptoms such as pain and fatigue but also to address psychological and cognitive repercussions, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Furthermore, acupuncture is appreciated for its cultural resonance within the Indonesian context, offering a sense of balance and well-being. Despite its less prominent role as an alternative therapy, acupuncture provides a sense of empowerment and control, enhancing adherence to treatment protocols and potentially improving survival outcomes. The study concludes that acupuncture represents a critical element of post-cancer care, advocating for an integrated, patient-centered approach that incorporates complementary and alternative medicines to support the comprehensive needs of cancer survivors. However, the study's scope is limited to a small sample size and a single urban setting, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. Further research is needed to validate these results in broader populations and diverse contexts.

This journal aims to analyze the role of national identities in international relations through research on the Polewali Mandar International Folk & Art Festival (PIFAF), which is held in Barat Island. The current study makes use of a qualitative methodology and focuses on three principles of diplomacy in the realm of business, namely, mutual understanding dialogue, culture of exchange, and cross-border collaboration. This study clarifies how PIFAF functions as a crucial platform for enhancing regional identity and tying it in with international connections. This festival creates a space for the discussion of religious ideas, helps to reduce negative bias, and promotes religious understanding among international participants by showcasing festival essentials such as local cuisine, music, dance, and traditional rituals to foreign visitors. Such a plan creates new opportunities for positive public diplomacy. The four-point collaboration principle is explained in the PIFAF context. Through collaboration, this festival gives local educators and senior citizens a chance to interact with international partners and foster knowledge and creativity that can increase worldwide awareness of global development issues. All of the analysis indicates that PIFAF plays a significant role in developing strong local identities and, occasionally, creating new standards for international joint work. The principles of diplomacy in religion that are presented at this festival provide a starting point for understanding religious texts that are more widely accepted among many religious groups, have the potential to strengthen international relations, and encourage more intense global cooperation.

"Kang PisMan" is a waste management movement in Bandung City focused on reducing, segregating, and exploiting refuse. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the meaning of the movement in waste management and the broader impact of similar initiatives across the city of Bandung. Adopting Herbert Blumer's Symbolic Interactionism theory, the study analyzed the society's interpretation of the "Kang PisMan" movement, through the exploration of diverse experiences and perceptions of the community, the underlying actions and subsequent responses originating from this definition were further investigated. The results showed that the community participation in the "Kang PisMan" movement was influenced by the meaning as an initiative addressing waste management, providing benefits, and emphasizing collective responsibility. The implications of this meaning on waste management movements lay in fostering community contribution based on awareness, thereby enabling the initiative to implement sustainability.

Adolescents' involvement as perpetrators of criminality in Indonesia has gone beyond the patterns of deviant behavior and actions categorized as juvenile delinquency. Adolescents' involvement as perpetrators of criminality has not been given much scientific attention in previous studies. This study focuses on the question, "How is the involvement of adolescents as perpetrators of criminality that occurs in Indonesia?" This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to exploring the forms, characteristics, and factors that influence a teenager to become a perpetrator of criminality disseminated through online media coverage. The collection and reading of online news focused on news titles containing criminality cases involving teenagers by using the search keyword "Involvement of teenagers as perpetrators of criminality in Indonesia" on the Google search engine. The findings in this study show that the involvement of teenagers as perpetrators of criminality has gone beyond the deviant behavior patterns of juvenile delinquency. The context can be reflected through the forms and characteristics of the acts committed by teenagers, ranging from maltreatment, drug abuse, to murder. This study also recommends the importance of looking at the welfare of adolescents as perpetrators of criminality and the law enforcement process to obtain a comprehensive and more empirical understanding.

Tagi Jere in the Tidore language means to visit the tomb of a saint. This ritual usually begins with certain preparations and is then followed by a visit to the Jere such as Jere Sultan Babullah, Jere Doe-doe, Jere Laboso, Jere Amo, Jere Tui, and Jere Wange Lamo. Tagi Jere is carried out as an expression of gratitude to God for the blessings that have been given. In addition, the Tagi Jere ritual is also carried out under certain conditions, such as crop failure, or as an antidote to distress or disaster. The researcher was interested in seeing the Tagi Jere ritual in the Tidore ethnic community in Ternate, especially in the Foramadiahi sub-district, using a qualitative approach. The interpretation of the data in the field shows that the Tagi Jere ritual is used as a request by the community based on their respective intentions. They brought Boso Kene (small pots of earthenware) containing Bira Kuraci (yellow rice) which they brought to the visited Jere. The Tagi Jere ritual also has a social value to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood that are manifested in mutual cooperation activities. The rituals performed by the Tidore ethnic community in various circles are preserved from generation to generation.

The study describes the traditional traditions of the Toraja land community which explains that Passura' carvings in the Toraja ethnic community are known as a philosophy of life and ancestral heritage which plays an important role in depicting social norms and conveying philosophical messages. The four basic Toraja carvings from more than 150 types of carvings, called Garonto Passura', such as Pa' Barre Allo, Pa' Tedong, Pa'manuk Londong, and Pa' Sussu, have special meanings involving important symbols. Garonto Passura' reflects values such as prosperity, hard work, justice, knowledge, nobility and unity of Toraja society. Each carving has a specific meaning, imbued with the values of Toraja life such as honesty, hard work, cooperation and unity. Tongkonan carvings, especially Pa' Tedong, Pa'manuk Londong, Pa' Barre Allo, and Pa' Sussu, not only reflect high artistic aesthetic values, but are also an important forum for conveying cultural messages, norms and values. which strengthens the work ethic of the Torajan people as a whole, enabling them to maintain traditions and apply ancestral values in everyday life. The work ethic of the Toraja people, reflected in Tongkonan carvings, teaches the importance of honesty, determination, hard work, cooperation and unity as the keys to prosperity and success in life.

Cancel culture is a phenomenon that creates space for individuals to voice opinions and evaluate behavior that is considered to violate values and norms. Cancel culture can move in two directions, Cyberbullying and Social control. To study cancel culture in Indonesia, there are 5 viral cases (September-November 2023), namely: (1) The case of Pandawara's feud with the Loji Sukabumi Beach government, (2) The ice-cream case by Oklin Fia, (3) The case of abuse committed by members' children. DPR RI, (4) Case of bullying of Cilacap Middle School students, (5) Case of Palestine and Israel. This research explores the direction of cancel culture in Indonesian society, the role of social media and its impact. Using netnography, ten informants were interviewed, and sentiment analysis on Instagram and Analysis using the Naive Bayes model shows that of the 10 social media platforms, 8 of them are cyberbullying and the other 3 are social control. Social media acts as a catalyst for cancel culture in the rapid dissemination of information and the formation of public opinion. The consequences of cancel culture include boycotts, decreased product sales, and prolonged online debates. Frequent misinformation and the instantaneous nature of social media trigger cancel culture, especially cyberbullying, which results in material and mental health losses.

Traditional medicine still has an important role in overcoming health problems in some Indonesian people, especially in people who live far from the reach of modern medical health services, such as Nagari Maek, Regency 50 Kota of West Sumatra Province. The relationship between the etiology of disease and the use of traditional medicinal herbs and plants by battra (people who heal) in the Minangkabau tribe needs to be explained. This research examines the etiology of disease related to disease symptoms, causes, concepts of health and disease, as well as physical treatment of sick people. This research was conducted in the Nagari Maek community, Regency 50 Kota with 5 informants, 10 of whom were patients or had been patients. The research uses ethnographic type qualitative methods, namely observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The results of the research show that the diseases that occur in the Nagari Maek community are caused by personalistic causes (diseases caused by the supernatural through shamans who aim to cause disease) and naturalistic causes (diseases caused by food, unclean environments, conditions in a person's body such as blood clogged, blood not flowing smoothly and so on). Diseases caused by personalism, in general, battra perform external treatment by soaking the concoction and sprinkling it on the patient's body, distributing the air concoction throughout the sick person's body and emitting smoke from the concoction into the patient's body. Meanwhile, diseases caused by naturalistic causes are treated by using concoctions that have been made to be drunk or eaten by the patient being treated.

This study examines how social media has impacted the decision-making process of Indonesian students in Sweden who are considering migration during the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the unique circumstances of the pandemic, health and safety have become critical factors in the decision-making processThe research was conducted using quantitative and qualitative methods, which were highly effective in gathering data. A survey was conducted with 33 participants, who were selected using accidental sampling. In addition, open interviews were conducted with 10 participants from different countries, which provided valuable insights into the subject matter. Data was collected through online questionnaires and interviews across multiple social media platforms. Although there were some potential limitations in data quality and participant engagement, the methods utilized in this study were highly effective and produced reliable results. The study found that social media was vital in helping Indonesian students make informed migration decisions and obtain information about the pandemic. In particular, social media facilitates knowledge sharing and communication with friends and colleagues. However, the pandemic created temporary obstacles for migrants considering returning to Indonesia due to safety and health concerns.

This research reveals the strategies of elderly female street vendors in Kisaran Timur District. The aim of this research is to determine the background, strategies and perceptions of society towards elderly women. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach. The informants in this study were six female street vendors who were determined using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, literature study and documentation. The data analysis technique goes through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and then drawing conclusions. The results obtained from this research indicate that the background of an elderly female street vendor who works to fulfill the daily economy. The strategy used is to build relationships with consumers. The relationship contained in the strategy of elderly women with family elements who become regular customers, builds communication with consumers with the aim of building brotherhood. Public perception of elderly female street vendors, the emergence of feelings of sympathy, as well as positive perceptions of elderly women who work as street vendors. The conclusion from these findings is that elderly women work to survive, a form of struggle for the family, a habit of working hard.

This study focuses on looking at the cultural dimension, promoting and spreading joy, and creating mental health in urban communities. The specific aim is that if mental health problems and stress are not handled properly, it can have a bad impact, especially when seen in urban communities, which are very busy and have very complex problems, and one of the things that is done to strengthen this is by holding social gathering activities. In the cultural dimension, of course, this is very interesting, as seen from the activities in urban areas carried out by mothers who provide and promote mental health in urban communities. This research is qualitative, carried out through observations and interviews with 18 informants. The results of this research found that the practice of social gathering is one of the solutions and interventions for maternal mental health in urban areas, and urban mothers can improve their quality of life. The meetings held provided solutions for their lives and improved their quality of life. This research contributes to the development of knowledge in the realm of health anthropology regarding the strategies and solutions used by mothers in urban areas to achieve good mental health.

Irrational beliefs such as myths, legends, and taboos play a role in protected area conservation or biodiversity; however, those remain unanswered in their conceptualization and practices. This research aims to reveal how a myth as an ancient institution evolves into a modern institution accepted by today's generation. It uses institutional transformation as an essential guide to reveal the linear transformation from old legend as a traditional institution into a modern multi-actor collaboration—data collection through observation, interviews with purposive informants, and support by secondary data. The result shows that the current Lake conservation covers long run long-institutional evolution: from the legend of the Zamzam water as the starting point, the legalization of the site as a natural conservation area, the strong kinship bond among local peoples, the metamorphosis of myth into public cultural events; to modern Collaborative action on religious tourism management of who, what, and when benefit and responsibility from different actors are shared. The institutional transformation has become a focal point over modernization that is intertwined and plays a significant role in the Lengkong Lake conservation.

This research focuses on the perspective of indigenous ecologies to see how the Lembata people maintain and care for their relationship with nature. The research located in the Lebatukan District highlands area of Lembata Regency in East Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia. The Lo Tiwa ritual is carried out by the Lembata people when pests attack their crops. When snails were attacking rice plants, people realized that they could eradicate the slugs through modern ways. However, they also realized that with the pesticide technology, the life of snails was threatened with extinction, which is considered unwise in preserving the local environment. Instead, they raised this issue on the altar of the Lo Tiwa ritual. In this way, preserving the relationship between humans and nature has happened, which is an integral part of environmental studies. Snails as pests are not killed, and rice plants are free from pests. In the Indonesian context, this research finds its context in efforts to promote a culture where the government wants to place culture, including rituals, as one of the essential forces in development. Apart from rituals, other cultural promotion objects include; oral traditions, manuscripts, customs, folk games, traditional sports, traditional knowledge, arts, and languages.

For most of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) people, waving traditions and ikat woven products are not just common local product or cultural manifestations. Each motif in ikat woven product has its own symbolic representation. This is a qualitative descriptive study carried out using an ethnographic research model. The data was collected by observing a number of ikat artisans and their cloth products, providing deep interview to related parties in the manufacturing process including meanings behind the decorative motifs in the ikat woven clothes. This study relies on of data notes linked to the research object as well as images of woven ikat cloth products in NTT. The result showed that the woven cloth products locally manufactured in NTT, with varied ornamentation and motifs are subject to local knowledge values and symbolic meanings that have a spiritual and mystical aspects. Many motifs on the cloth developed identify each regional area in NTT. Ikat cloth motifs are symbols of communication tools; i.e., Ende-Lio motifs associated with traditional rituals are represented by cloth motifs are the symbols for regulations that must be implemented by the people. For people of North Mollo, NTT, ikat woven product with identical motifs have widely been used for blankets and sarongs named as Pauf designed exclusively for males to wear. In Pauf, there are two interpretations of the rhombus-shaped symbols on Lulat Pohok and Lulat Kollo, which symbolically are the expression or reflection for social interaction between society and the ruler or king.

Community-Based Tourism (CBT) is a type of tourism that includes community participation as the main element in achieving sustainable tourism development goals. Community participation can be realized if a community has substantial social capital to move collectively to increase living standards. This research explores the community's cultural values in the UNESCO Ciletuh Palabuhanratu Global Geopark (CPUGG) area as the main element in forming community social capital. Using a qualitative case study type method, the author explains the dynamics of business actors in Ciletuh in developing their businesses through the concept of social capital, which includes social relationships, norms, values, and beliefs in society. The research results show Sundanese cultural values, such as (1) Sabilulungan; (2) Someah Hade Ka Semah; (3) Ngaruwat Alam; (4) Ngamumule Budaya; and (5) Spiritual values and beliefs. These cultural values are essential in forming social capital supporting tourism development in CPUGG. However, communities face various conflicts that can hinder tourism development

This article presents how the origin of the Ketoprak Dor art in Central Aceh. This topic is interesting because the change or development of an art scene does not only occur from within the artist's creative process alone, but perhaps by the surrounding factors that influence it. So, a qualitative research approach with descriptive analysis method is the choice to investigate this phenomenon. As a result, the Ketoprak Dor art in Central Aceh, to be precise in the gampong (village) of Paya Tumpi - Kebayakan, originates from Deli, North Sumatra. There were two events that prompted its emergence: 1) in the decade of the '50s, the Ketoprak Dor group in Deli performed in Central Aceh, to be precise in Bies District. 2) still in the same decade, there were people from Medan who moved to Bies and brought the Ketoprak Dor musical instrument and wanted to sell it when they got there. Because the Bies residents were unable to make up for it, the Paya Tumpi residents agreed to it and a Ketoprak Dor arts group was formed named Langeng Madio Utomo which later changed its name to Sanggar Ketoprak Rahayu Cipto Rukun in the following decade. Even though they had been on hiatus for three decades (starting in the 1990s), in the past few years the group has been on the mend again. It can be concluded that external factors can change the motive (cause), form or style, to the meaning of the performance.

This article aims to discuss the development of ancient Muslim settlements on the west coast of Aceh based on the findings of Islamic gravestones at the Binanga site in Subulussalam City, Aceh. This site is very unique, it is located inland and right on the banks of the Singkel River, which is connected to the highlands of Sumatra. There are 131 Islamic gravestones, and their shapes vary greatly. The results of the morphological analysis show that the gravestones were divided into two groups: Aceh gravestones (batu Aceh) and Barus gravestones (nisan Barus). There are no biographical inscriptions carved on the gravestones, however, the morphological analysis shows that these gravestones date from the 18th to 19th centuries AD. These tombstones indicate that Muslim communities began to settle permanently in the interior of Aceh's west coast in the 1700s. The emergence of these settlements is related to the migration of people from the highlands of Sumatra to the west coast of Aceh, which was motivated by the development of international trade centered in Singkel and its surroundings since the 18th and 19th centuries AD. Thus, the tombstone on this site is very important because gave the clear picture to understand the emergence of Muslim settlements on the west coast of Aceh in the past.

This article discusses the early development of rijsttafel and Dutch East Indies restaurants in the Netherlands during colonial period between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The study takes a closer look at the early development of rijsttafel and Dutch East Indies restaurants in the Netherlands during the colonial period, as well as the role of actors in introducing rijsttafel and Dutch East Indies ethnic food in the Netherlands. This study aims to provide an alternative way of studying the history of culinary and gastronomic development and the influence of Dutch East Indies culture in the Netherlands. The historical sources used are newspapers, cookbooks, and guidebooks on Dutch East Indies cuisine, gastronomy, and restaurants in the Netherlands in the colonial period. The development of rijsttafel and Dutch East Indies restaurants in the Netherlands demonstrates the strong influence of colonial cultural imperialism in diversifying flavors in Europe in the mid-19th to mid-20th centuries. The early trajectory of rijsttafel in the Netherlands also shows that culinary dishes and gastronomic cultures from colonies such as the Dutch East Indies can be adapted and modified into various flavors that suit the tastes of Dutch society.

The spice route has become a national discourse in the context of strengthening the Indonesian nation's maritime cultural identity. As one of the big nations, the archipelago was once a cross-national melting pot in the context of hunting and trading spices on an international scale. After all, spices were the prima donna commodity of their time, which raised the name of the archipelago to the international trade stage. This research was conducted to find out the history of the spice route in one of the archipelago regions, especially in Aceh. After all, Islam and the spice trade have become a part of the civilization of Aceh and the Archipelago. This research is a qualitative research, with an historical and anthropological method approach, in order to understand firsthand how the description of the spice trade route in Aceh, especially the western and southern regions of Aceh. The results showed that the West and South Coasts of Aceh had become the locus of one of the archipelago's spice trading centers from the late 18th century to the end of the 19th century AD. The progress of the spice trade was marked by the emergence of ports on the west coast, including the old Singkel port, Trumon , Susoh, Kuala Batu, Meulaboh, to Bandar Rigaih. The presence of the Trumon Kingdom, which was built from the rapid trade in spices and pepper, and the weakening influence and power of the Aceh Darussalam Kingdom, shows that there is a contestation of power between the Aceh Darussalam Kingdom, Dutch Colonial and local powers on the West coast. Among the spice commodities on the west coast of Aceh include; pepper, cloves, nutmeg, resin, and silk. However, the presence of spices on the West coast of Aceh contributed to the emergence of power contestation between the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam, the Netherlands and the kingdoms on the West coast of Aceh, especially in the context of power struggles and spice commodities.

The sima inscription is an edict issued by the king as a gift given to certain parties. One of the reasons for its bestowment is as a reward to those who have shown him loyalty. This paper studies the forms of loyalty shown by the Ancient Javanese People to the king and the factors that influenced it. The study aims to give an understanding of the relationship that existed between the Ancient Javanese people and the king in the XIII–XV Centuries AD. The results of this research provides new insight for the effort to reconstruct the life of the Ancient Javanese people. The method used in this study consists of data collection, data analysis, and interpretation. Based on this series of studies, it can be determined that there are multiple forms of loyalties shown by the Ancient Javanese people to the king and multiple factors that influenced its formation.

This study discusses the importance of government and community collaboration in the preservation and potential use of Siak Sri Indrapura Cultural Heritage Area. It is not easy to carry out preservation as mandated by the law, because in practice various problems may arise, especially those related to the area’s use. The purpose of this study is to integrate interpretations concerning the importance of government and community collaboration in the preservation of cultural heritage areas and those concerning their potential use by taking into account socio-cultural and economic values. This study was designed using a convergent qualitative and quantitative approach (convergent mixed methods approach) to collect data. Those data were then analyzed separately, and the results were then compared, resulting in whether findings in the form of mutual information become normalized or, conversely, do not normalize each other. This study identified the need for community participation in compiling significant values of the heritage and the similarity between government’s interpretation and public perception of socio-cultural and economic values.
