Background: Sargassum and Padina ethanol extracts contain secondary metabolites that have effects as antiseptic, antibiotic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral and astringent which are useful in the wound healing process. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of wound plasters of ethanol extracts Sargassum polycystum and Padina australis on the time of closure of incision wounds in mice (Mus musculus). Method: This study used an experimental method of post test only controlled group design type to compare the effectiveness of wound plasters of ethanol extracts Sargassum polycstum and Padina australis on wound healing in mice (Mus musculus). Results: The results showed the average speed of incision wound healing, Padina australis extract wound plaster had the fastest time of 6.6 days followed by Sargassum polycstum extract wound plaster 7.8 days and control 12 days Conclusion: Giving ethanol extracts of Sargassum polycstum and Padina australis can be used as an alternative in wound healing. Sargassum is a well-known genus of brown algae in Indonesia that has long been investigated due to its economic importance. To support its biological research, it is important to identify and classify the species studied. Morphological identification had greatly contributed to taxonomy, however, it cannot distinguish Sargassum species accurately due to its plasticity. The current study aims to identify Lombok Sargassum molecularly using an ITS2 DNA barcode. Fresh algae were collected from Ekas Bay (EB) and Aan Cape (AC) in Lombok. DNA was first purified, and then its gene product was amplified using ITS2 primers. DNA sequences were examined and traced using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST). DNA sequences were processed in MEGA-X to reconstruct the phylogenetic tree and estimate the genetic distance. Three species were identified based on the BLAST results: Sargassum cf granuliferum, Sargassum polycystum, and Sargassum oligocystum. The base length obtained ranged from 521 to 637 bp, with a similarity percentage of 99.25 to 100%. The phylogenetic tree exhibited each recognized Sargassum species was clustered with the same species from the gene bank. Interspecies genetic distance was 0,000-0,0039, while amongst Sargassum species it's 0,0136-0,2395. The genetic distance between Sargassum and Ulva adherens (outgroup) was >1. Sargassum species found in Lombok were closely related to other similar species in the GenBank.

The relationship between molecular structure and bioactivity was evaluated for sodium alginates obtained under different degradation treatment (raw alginates, heat-treated, and chemical-treated) from Sargassum sp. This study was conducted to identify the antioxidant activities of the degraded sodium alginate from Sargassum sp. compared to raw extract. Raw alginate as the control treatment was dried overnight at 60 °C, while heat-treated was heated raw alginate at 140oC in a laboratory oven (4.5 hours). Two chemical-treated were applied. Raw alginate added hydrogen peroxide and raw alginat with hydrogen peroxide plus ascorbic acid. This treatments were replicated three times. All the parameters were evaluated spectrophotometrically. The spectroscopy results from the degradation methods showed a new absorbance spectra pattern. The FT-IR spectrum revealed that treatment affects the structure of the alginates. Heat treated and chemical treated sodium alginates showed non significantly different on DPPH radical scavenging activity. Meanwhile, the combination of alginate and hydrogen peroxide treatment was at the lowest scavenging ability. Therefore, alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) produced by heating or adding chemical reagents could be considered as a stronger antioxidant than raw alginate, which may be applied in the industry and biomedical

Penelitian pembuatan dan karakterisasi pupuk dari campuran tepung ampas ekstraksi agar dan tepung silase telah dilakukan dengan maksud untuk menyediakan bahan pupuk alternatif dari limbah padat ekstraksi agar. Perlakuan yang diberikan adalah rasio antara tepung ampas dari ekstraksi agar : tepung silase (tepsil) : pasta Sargassum yaitu 98,6%:0%:1,4%; 95,8%:2,8%:1,4%; 93,1%:5,5%:1,4% dan 90,6%:8%:1,4%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tepung ampas dari ekstraksi agar mempunyai kandungan unsur hara N sebesar 2,2±0,03% dan tepsil 9,18±0,15%. Kombinasi perlakuan yang diberikan menggunakan pasta Sargassum sebagai perekat menghasilkan kandungan unsur hara makro dan mikro yang bervariasi. Penambahan tepsil ke dalam tepung ampas dari ekstraksi agar dapat meningkatkan unsur hara makro N, unsur hara mikro Zn dan Cu, serta meningkatkan nilai kadar abu, tetapi menurunkan unsur hara K, P, Fe, dan Mn. Perlakuan terbaik berdasarkan kandungan unsur hara makro N ditemukan pada perlakuan rasio antara tepung ampas dari ekstraksi agar : tepsil : pasta sargassum = 90,6% : 8% : 1,4% yang mempunyai nilai unsur hara N 6,72%, P 0,34%; K 0,014%; Cu 0,22 ppm; Fe 386,3 ppm; Mn 9,5 ppm; Zn 394,5 ppm; nilai kadar abu 20,72%, kadar air 6,20% dan kemampuan menyerap air selama 50 menit perendaman sebesar 324%.

Penelitian ekstraksi sap dari rumput laut Sargassum telah dilakukan dengan menggunakan larutan KOH. Sebelum dilakukan perlakuan Sargassum direndam dalam HCl 1% selama 2 jam, dicuci dengan air tawar dan ditiriskan. Larutan KOH yang digunakan dalam proses hidrolisa adalah 0,34; 1,02; dan 1,7% dengan rasio Sargassum berbanding larutan KOH 1 : 10. Proses ekstraksi dilakukan pada suhu kamar selama satu malam. Selanjutnya sap disaring dan dipisahkan dari padatan. Hasil perlakuan menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi KOH berpengaruh terhadap nilai pH, kekentalan, hormon pertumbuhan, unsur hara N, P, dan K. Peningkatan konsentrasi KOH telah menurunkan nilai kekentalan sap, kadar hormon pertumbuhan, unsur hara N dan P kecuali K dan nilai pH. Hasil terbaik ditinjau dari hormon pertumbuhan ditemukan pada perlakuan K34 dengan nilai kandungan hormon pertumbuhan auksin sebesar 127,48 ppm, giberrelin 131,11 ppm, sitokinin-kinetin 68,77 ppm, dan sitokinin-zeatin 82,41 ppm, unsur hara makro K sebesar 345,29 mg/100 g, nitrogen (N) sebesar 0,78%, fosfor (P) sebesar 55,39 mg/100 ml, nilai kekentalan 11,5 cPs dan nilai pH 7.
