Purple water yam had good prospect to be developed as functioonal food because it had high dietary fiber, inulin, antocyanin and antioxidant compunds. The aim of this research was to determine the physicochemical and sensoric characteristics of synbiotic yoghurt from cow’s milk and purple water yam extract using Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Streptococcus thermophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum. This research used This research used Completely Randomized Design with factorial pattern which was consisted of 2 factors and 2 replications. Factor 1 is the proportion of cow’s milk : purple water yam extract (50:50, 40:60, and 30:70) and Factor 2 is concentration of Lactic acid bacteria (3%, 4% and 5%). ANOVA was employed to analyze the data. If there was asignificant diffence, it should be followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a significance level α=0.05. The result revelaed that the best treatment was the proportion milk: water yam extract (40:60) and 5% starter LAB, which produced synbiotic yoghurt with lactic acid bacteria total of 9.42 Log CFU/ml, lactic acid total 1.98%, dietary fiber content 3.85%. This synbiotic yoghurt had average hedonic score of taste 2.75, color 3.25, smell 3.50, texture 2.85, which means it was preferred by the pannels

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of dietary inclusion of 2% synbiotic (Lactobacillus casei + dahlia tuber extract/LEDT or Lactobacillus casei + garlic extract/LEGT) on intestinal bacteria, nutrient digestibility, and growth of broiler chickens. A total of 150 birds of one-day-old male Cobb broiler were randomly assigned into three groups of treatment with five replications (10 birds each). Dietary treatments applied were T0 = basal ration, T1 = basal ration + 2% LEDT, T2 = basal ration + 2% LEGT. Synbiotics were given to starter chicken (from 2 to 3 weeks old). Background. Anemia, as a global public health problem, needs to be solved. The previous study by the researcher found the potency of iron-fortified synbiotic fermented milk with tempeh extract as an alternative to overcome anemia. Objective. This study aims to determine the effects of iron-fortified synbiotic fermented milk with tempeh extract towards short-chain fecal fatty acids (SCFAs) and fecal microbiota. Method. The study was a randomized controlled trial with three groups, consisting of 8 anemic Wistar rats. The groups made into anemia within 17 days.The groups treated as follows: group NA: fermented milk with tempeh extract fortified by NaFeEDTA, group FE: fermented milk with tempeh extract fortified by FeSO4 , and group KO: fermented milk with tempeh extract without fortification. SCFAs and microbiota of the rat’s feces determined using the Total Plate Count method. SCFAs were measured after the intervention, while fecal microbiota was measured before and after the intervention. One-way ANOVA was used to measure the difference between NA, FE, and KO groups with post hoc test Bonferroni. Results. There was a significant mean difference between propionic and butyric acid between NA and FE groups and the KO group. The highest Lactobacilli number was in the FE group, while Bifidobacteria and Enterobacteriaceae were highest in the KO group. Meanwhile, the NA group had the highest Escherichia coli number. Conclusion. Iron fortification has positive effects on increasing the production of SCFAs in the gut. Prebiotics and probiotics have positive effects on pathogenic bacteria. Further study is needed to determine the effects of iron-fortified synbiotic fermented milk with tempeh extract in human.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of different basal diet and feed additive on the percentage of carcass and component parts of broilers. This research has been conducted for four months (June to September 2020) at State Polytechnic of Agriculture Kupang. A total of 264 one-day old chicks were distributed to 24 pens (11 birds/pen).The experiment was designed using a 2 x 4 factorial design with 8 tretment combinations and three replications for each treatment. The treatments were control (0% sago) (P0), control (0% sago) + avyzime 0,10 % and phyzyme 0,05% (P1), control (0% sago) + allzime 0,05% (P2), control (0% sago) + synbiotic probio FMplus 40 mL/L drinking water (P3), Diet containing 10% sago (P4), Diet containing 10% sago + allzyme 0,10 % and phyzyme 0,05% (P5), Diet containing 10% sago + allzyme 0,05% (P6) and Diet containing 10% sago + synbiotic probio FMplus 40 mL/L drinking water (P7). The result shows that type of basal diet (TBD) and feed additive (FA) affect (P < 0,05) the carcass weight but it did not afect (P>0,05) carcass percentage of broiler chickens. Background: The metabolic syndrome, which is characterized by hyperglycemia, obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, prothrombic and proinflamatory state, is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus. The synbiotic yogurt of tanduk banana (Musa paradisiaca fa. corniculata) flour contains lactic acid bacteria, fructooligosaccarides, flavonoids, and vitamin C which all of them play role in improving the lipid profile. Objective: The aim of this study was to prove the effect of synbiotic yogurt of tanduk banana flour on lipid profile of metabolic syndrome rats. Method: This study was an true experimental with pre-post test control group design. The subject of this study were 18 metabolic syndrome male Wistar rats divided into 3 groups,i.e control group (standart diet), intervention group I (standart diet and synbiotic yogurt of banana flour 0,009 ml/g weight/day), and intervention group II (standart diet and synbiotic yogurt of banana flour 0,018 ml/g weight/day). This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of dietary synbiotic at different giving frequencies on growth, immune responses, and resistance of white shrimp infected by infectious myonecrosis virus (IMNV). Synbiotic used in this study was combination of probiotic Vibrio alginolyticus SKT-b and prebiotic oligosaccharides extracted from sweet potatoe (Ipomoea batatas L). Doses of probiotic and prebiotic used were 1% and 2% (w/w), respectively. The white shrimps (0.493±0.035 g) were divided into five treatments consisting of A and B (without supplementation of synbiotic: (A) positive control; (B) negative control), C (daily synbiotic supplementation), D (twice a week synbiotic supplementation), and E (weekly synbiotic supplementation). After 30 days of feeding trial, white shrimps were infected by IMNV (except negative control). The results showed that daily growth rate of white shrimp on all synbiotic treatments (C, D, and E) ranged from 6.93±0.025-6.97±0.019% and had higher values than controls (A and B) (P0.05). Meanwhile, feed conversion value in C and D (1.54±0.142 and 1.58±0.117) were lower than controls (P0.05). Supplementation of synbiotic with different frequencies also affected survival rate of white shrimp after the challenge test with IMNV; daily synbiotic supplementation (C) resulted in a 50% higher survival rate than positive control (P0.05). This was associated with immune responses parameters values of synbiotic treatment (before and after the challenge test) which were better than positive control. In conclusion the addition of synbiotic in feed resulted in higher growth performances, immune responses,and resistance of white shrimp to IMNV infection.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of encapsulated synbiotic (Bacillus sp. NP5 and oligosaccharide) dietary at different dosages on growth performance, survival rate, feed conversion ratio, and immune responses of Litopenaeus vannamei against Vibrio infection. The shrimps of the main treatments were fed by the diet that contained three different dosages of encapsulated synbiotic [0.5% (A), 1% (B), and 2% (C) (w/w)] with feeding rate of 5% of shrimp biomass (4 times a day). The shrimps of two control treatments (negative control and positive control) were fed only by commercial feed without supplementation of encapsulated synbiotic. The growth, feed conversion ratio, and survival rate were observed after 30 days of encapsulated synbiotic dietary. The shrimps were then challenged by injection of Vibrio harveyi (6 log colony forming units/mL) 0.1 mL/shrimp, excluded the negative control treatment. Afterward, the survival and immune responses were observed for 9 days after experimental infection. The shrimps treated with 2% encapsulated synbiotic (treatment C) in the diet showed the highest growth performance (2.98 ± 0.42%), feed conversion ratio (1.26 ± 0.19), and better immune responses i.e. total hemocyte counts, differential hemocyte count, phenoloxidase, and intestine bacteria observation compared to those of positive control treatment.

This study evaluated the effects on viral immune responses and bacterial co-infection, of different feeding frequencies of a synbiotic supplemented diet given to Pacific white shrimp (L. vannamei). A synbiotic-supplemented diet was formulated from probiotic Vibrio alginolitycus SKT-bR and prebiotics from sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) oligosaccharide. Pacific white shrimp were fed with synbiotic diet at different frequencies, i.e. daily (P1), twice a week (P2), and once a week (P3) for a 30 day pre-challenge test. After the 30 day feeding period, the shrimps were challenged by intramuscular injection of Infectious Myonecrosis Virus (IMNV) and Vibrio harveyi. The aims of this research were to investigate the prebiotic and synbiotic properties of sweet potato products (combined with L. casei subsp Rhamnosus for probiotic) in increasing the number of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and suppressing the number of E. coli and the occurrence of Salmonella in vivo. Some previous study showed that sweet potato is a potent source of prebiotic. The sweet potato products evaluated were sweet potato flakes (SPF) and sweet potato ice cream mix. The in vivo assay used male rat strain Sprague-Dawley. Total microbes, LAB, E. coli and Salmonella in fecal were analyzed before, during and after feeding period. Feeding with SPF as prebiotic, L. casei subsp Rhamnosus as probiotic, and combination of both as synbiotic for ten days were able to increase the number of LAB (0.4-1.1 log CFU/g) and suppress the number of E. coli in rat feces (1.5-1.7 log CFU/g). All of the treatment did not affect the occurrence of Salmonella in rat feces. The treatment of sweet potato ice cream mix as prebiotics and the combination of sweet potato ice cream mix and L. casei subsp. Rhamnosus as synbiotic for ten days did not effect the number of LAB and E. coli in rat feces.
