The paper traces the history, including legislation, of the libraries of the State archives, born, often thanks to the will and tenacity of the directors who, through a capillary correspondence network with the cultural institutions of the national territory, fleshed out the newly erected libraries with volumes as a gift or obtained through exchanges of book doubles. The purchase on the antiquarian market and from private citizens of single volumes but also of entire book collections, important for reconstructing the history - including literary history - of the territory of competence, makes these libraries unique in their kind. Established for the updating of archivist officials and to allow them to study, reorganize and inventory documentary collections, over time they have changed their mission by expanding the audience of consultation to external users but only if they are unable to find publications in other libraries. To date, despite boasting a library heritage of a certain importance and often unique, they are managed in the absence of personnel in the role of librarian with all the problems that this entails in terms of cataloguing, planning of purchases and assistance for bibliographic research. This paper aims to focus on the importance of investigating the value and weight given to libraries by politicians, decision-makers and administrators within their political and administrative activities. The article proposes a reflection on the value given to libraries by some Italian policymakers and a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the presence of libraries within the electoral programs of the Italian local elections (autumn 2021-spring 2022). This study has made it possible to construct a map of the positioning of libraries in the mind of politics. This fact is essential for understanding the context from which librarians and researchers can start to change the perception, often simplistic, of policymakers about libraries, to make them understand the impact that libraries can have on society, and to identify effective and efficient strategic actions. The paper aims to provide an overview of the 61. National congress of the Italian library association "Librarians, the most beautiful job in the world. Also in Italy?" (online, November 25-26, 2021). Numerous speakers from the professional sphere and the university context participated in the congress, many of whom belong to AIB commissions and observers. The most significant issues that emerged from the speeches were reported, but we are aware of the impossibility of returning their rich content. In the conclusions, a reflection is proposed on the need to address the critical issues of the profession and libraries through different perspectives, overcoming self-referentiality and thus reaching a rich and profound knowledge of our sector. The paper traces some professional choices that guided the management of Italian libraries over the last fifty years, focusing on the interpretation of their cultural role, also in relation to the progressive spreading of digital culture. Libraries, regardless of their functional typology, remain a constitutive part of Italy’s cultural heritage: it is therefore essential to find a synthesis between their nature of ‘cultural heritage’, their information function and their social function. In light of this common ground, it is therefore important to find a synthesis between libraries’ informative and social function. Today, libraries are in the most favorable position to weave relationships between people and institutions. Librarians can identify in this current context fertile ground to redefine their profession and place themselves at the service of an Italian civil and cultural revitalization. It is a question of giving libraries – intended as places of inclusiveness and gathering – a greater baggage of knowledge and culture to perform their widely recognized social role. By expanding their range of action, libraries remain social, cultural and information hubs capable of carrying out a renewed connective and participatory function. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The first Italian experiences of HTA are born inside single hospitals and, lately, regional health care systems. In Italy, anyway, no agency had health technology assessment as an institutional duty until 2007, the year of the founding of the Italian Society of Health Technology Assessment (SIHTA). In times of "spending review", the HTA, whose purpose is to make decisions about health technologies rational and consistent with a context of scarce resources, is increasingly emerging as a priority need of the National Health System. The objective of this paper is to analyze if and how the librarian is involved in the process of health technology assessment, analyzing the results of a survey performed at a selection of Italian research organizations. The analysis of the results shows that the Italian situation is still very varied, from the point of view of HTA, and health technologies are often introduced without any preliminary analysis. The librarian is almost never represented within the HTA evaluation group and his/her knowledge of HTA should be improved.

The paper analyzes the most consistent travel testimony transmitted by Ranganathan, that relating to his journey in Europe and America in 1948. Through the analysis of the editorial and content structure of the Library Tour, the following aspects will be illustrated: the type of experience or history conducted from the Indian librarian, the planning and conduct of this travel, the professional and scientific reflections that this allowed him, in particular on library science and librarianship, thus responding to the expectations of an Indian government eager to justify and consolidate the independence achieved also through the training sectors and information.

El paper del bibliotecari docent universitari no ha estat mai ben definit i l'èxit de la seva activitat es veu condicionat per la relació de col·laboració amb el professorat, el seu reconeixement i nivell d'implicació i la participació en la innovació docent. Els plans tutorials i els tallers per elaborar els treballs de fi de grau que estan posant en marxa les universitats poden representar una oportunitat per a l'aprenentatge de les competències de gestió de la informació dels alumnes universitaris i de consolidació i evidència del paper formador i de tutela dels bibliotecaris, aliats dels estudiants. En aquest article es presenten dos exemples de planificació i intervenció docent de bibliotecaris de la Universidad de Sevilla en els plans tutorials dels seus centres respectius, la Facultad de Económicas y Empresariales i la Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación. Els resultats obtinguts demostren que la integració de la formació en competències informacionals o digitals que imparteixen els bibliotecaris en aquests plans ofereix molts beneficis, no només per a l'aprenentatge de l'estudiant i l'excel·lència de les universitats, sinó també per refermar el paper del bibliotecari formador. The status of academic teaching librarian never has been defined. The success of the academic librarian activity has been conditioned by the collaboration between academic teachers and librarians and by the implications of librarians in academic training innovation projects. Spanish universities are managing the Orientation and Tutorial Action Plan and workshops for training students in order to complete their Final degree projects. That situation represents one opportunity not only for the training of students digital competencies but also for the teaching academic librarian status. They are allied with students. In this article we describe two examples of training planification and intervention of academic librarians of Library of University of Seville, in two Orientation and Tutorial Action Plans, one of them of Facultad de Económicas y Empresariales and another of Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación. The result demonstrates that the integration of digital competencies that academic librarians train in the context of Tutorial Plan, offers many benefits not only for students learning and excellence of academic institution but also for consolidate the status of academic teaching librarian.

The paper aims to analyze the regulations and the program of studies envisaged by the Scuola tecnica bibliografica – a two-year technical course established in 1886 to be given at the central national libraries of Rome and Florence – in order to outline the strategies that the Ministry of Public Education intended to implement in the field for the professional training of librarians. The unpublished correspondence accompanying these official documents between the Minister of Public Education Michele Coppino, Desiderio Chilovi and Domenico Gnoli is examined, in order to shed light on the complex events that led to perennial postponements of the inauguration of the new course up to to arrive at an inevitable and sad ending: its ‘failure’ to start.

Objetivos: presentar cómo se gestiona la formación continuada del personal de las bibliotecas en la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, con una especial mención a la relación entre la Unidad de Formación del Área del Personal de Administración y Servicios y el Servicio de Bibliotecas. -- Metodología: revisión histórica de las actividades de formación que se han llevado a cabo en los últimos años y exposición de la metodología de detección, planificación, ejecución y evaluación de la formación, tanto en el ámbito global de la organización como en el del Servicio de Bibliotecas. -- Resultados: se han hecho avances positivos, tales como la ampliación de la oferta formativa y la adaptación a los nuevos formatos. También se detectan algunos puntos débiles y se mencionan algunos de los retos a los que la formación tendrá que hacer frente y donde la agilidad de respuesta será un factor crítico.Objective: This paper describes how the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona manages the in-service training of its library staff, focusing on the association between the University’s administrative and service staff training unit and its library service. -- Methodology: The paper reviews the process undertaken in recent years to offer training activities by detecting trainees’ needs, planning and implementing courses and evaluating training, both at an overall organizational level and in the university’s library service in particular. -- Results: Progress has been made in in-service training and a larger number of training courses are now offered in more diverse formats. On the other hand, the offering still needs to be improved in certain areas, where promptly responding to trainee needs will become crucial.

Les biblioteques són espais per aprendre, crear i compartir experiències, i així com els nostres models educatius es transformen per donar lloc a noves formes d'adquirir coneixement, les biblioteques i els professionals de la informació també ho estan fent. La biblioteca del Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, ha evolucionat a Biblio TEC, un edifici per consultar informació que, al seu torn, proporciona espais que faciliten l'aprenentatge i la interacció entre els usuaris i el desenvolupament d'activitats estudiantils. Amb 17.000 metres quadrats de construcció, l'edifici està conformat per sis nivells amb una configuració d'espais flexibles que s'adapten a les necessitats d'individus, equips i grans grups de persones, en els quals es maximitzen les alternatives d'estudi, col·laboració i aprenentatge. El paper del bibliotecari en aquest nou escenari es transforma també, ja que el seu rol ja no és el de ser amo de l'espai ni el de decidir com usar-lo. La seva participació s'enfoca com a curador de la informació i facilitador en el desenvolupament de les habilitats per accedir i usar la informació dels usuaris, tasca que cobra rellevància, sens dubte, en una època amb una gran generació d'informació. Libraries provide a stage for learning, creating and sharing experience; and both library services and the information professionals in charge of them are changing with the times, just as our educational systems are, offering us new ways to acquire knowledge. The library at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, has evolved into Biblio TEC: a physical building that is at once an information reference service and a series of spaces designed to facilitate learning and interaction in study-related activities of different kinds. With a surface area of some 17,000 sq. m., the building is divided into six levels of flexible spaces that can be adapted to the needs of individuals, teams and large groups of library users and that maximise the possibilities of private or group study and of learning in general. On this new stage, the librarian's role has also changed and librarians are no longer the keepers of services who decide what is to be used and how; instead, they have become information curators whose mission in this day and age is to facilitate the process by which patrons learn to acquire and use increasing amounts of information.

Objetivo: analizar la inserción laboral de los titulados en el grado de Información y Documentación de la Universidad de Salamanca. -- Metodología: análisis de tipo cuantitativo realizado mediante un cuestionario remitido en formato web a las promociones de egresados entre 2009 y 2012. El cuestionario consta de preguntas cerradas de respuesta sugerida y de valoración, y de una pregunta abierta. -- Resultados: los datos obtenidos ponen de manifiesto el perfil predominantemente femenino y vocacional de la profesión, la valoración positiva de los conocimientos adquiridos durante su formación universitaria, la realización de tareas profesionales que requieren un nivel de especialización al ser, en su mayoría, tareas de tipo técnico, y un alto grado de inserción laboral. No obstante, se constatan también ciertos cambios como son la tendencia por parte de los egresados a encontrar empleo en el ámbito privado, el uso de Internet como herramienta para la obtención de un puesto de trabajo y la necesidad de adquirir destrezas relacionadas con nuevas áreas como es la planificación y la gestión de proyectos de diversa índole.Objective: This paper analyses the employability of graduates in the bachelor’s degree in Information and Documentation of the University of Salamanca. -- Methodology: A questionnaire consisting of closed-ended questions (suggested response, evaluation) and one open-ended question was administered in web format to the graduate students who had completed the degree in the period 2009–2012. -- Results: Information and documentation graduates from the university in question were most commonly women whose motivation to become professionals was vocational. The respondents’ evaluation of the knowledge acquired during their degree was positive. The professional tasks they engaged in most were technically complex tasks requiring a level of expertise, and the majority of the respondents were employed. In what appears to be a new trend, in certain cases respondents had found employment in the private sector. An increase was also observed in the use of the Internet to obtain a professional position and in respondents’ professional interest in acquiring project planning and management skills in information and documentation.

Estat de l'associacionisme professional en l'àmbit de la biblioteconomia i la documentació a Espanya. Es comenten els tipus d'associacions (col·legis, federacions i societats), el seu nombre i el nombre de membres que tenen. Es parla de FESABID com a federació estatal d'associacions. Les associacions tenen un paper important en la professió i han de servir de canal perquè els seus membres participin en la societat de la informació. La formació permanent dels membres i la cooperació amb altres col·lectius professionals poden ser importants per tal d'assolir aquests objectius.
