ARTIFICIAL intelligence , *SECONDARY school students , *ONLINE chat , *TECHNOLOGY education , *ACQUISITION of data , *ONLINE education - Abstract
The paper takes as its starting point the responses to a question administered to 52 lower secondary school students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD), aimed at detecting which technologies are used for language learning. From the data collected, it appears that these students, who would particularly benefit from technologies, do not take full advantage of them. We propose a critical examination of technology education (ranging from simple apps to artificial intelligence, such as online translators or Chat GPT) with the objective of enhancing language learning competences and autonomy among students with SpLD. EXPERT systems , *DEEP learning , *ARTIFICIAL intelligence , *EVOLUTIONARY algorithms , *HEURISTIC , *SOCIAL dominance - Abstract
The paper analyses the evolutionary tendencies in the use of artificial intelligence in building design, highlighting: a) the ground lost by knowledge-based expert systems and the diffusion of systems combined with heuristic and stochastic approaches; b) the spread of evolutionary algorithms in the field of optimisation; c) a climax of the influence of probabilistic approaches around 2010; d) the progressive dominance of deep learning since 2012. It is likely that the next step requires hybridisation of deep learning and symbolic artificial intelligence, and it is expected that the contribution of design domain experts in terms of knowledge formalisation will be a fundamental driver of it. INFORMATION society , *ARTIFICIAL intelligence , *DEHUMANIZATION , *METAPHYSICS , *HABITATS - Abstract
The combined work of Turing and Shannon shaped today's "information society", and founded it on a new metaphysics to which we've become so accustomed that we see it as something obvious and natural. But covertly it was set up to be machine-oriented instead of human-oriented, from the very beginning. To highlight the aberrations and hazards of this culture, and what it entails for us humans to live in a machine-biased habitat, in this paper I take help from the lucidity of Karl Marx. As I show with examples from various works, certain topoi of Marx's critique of the political economy of his time can be rewritten by substituting a few keywords, producing a surprisingly relevant analysis of the information society and the role that data and Artificial Intelligence play in it. The explanation for this strange phenomenon stems from the fact that information can be seen as the current upgrade of marxian money, a dehumanizing abstraction and "automatic fetish" that expands itself independently of human needs. NATURAL language processing , *ARTIFICIAL intelligence , *CHATBOTS , *FOREIGN news , *MUSICAL composition , *EDUCATIONAL films , *QUESTIONING - Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving and changing the way we live and work. The goal of this technology is to create systems that can mimic certain human capabilities such as, for example, natural language processing (NLP, Natural Language Processing), generating content, composing music etc. through the use of advanced algorithms and large amounts of data. In the educational sector, AI systems such as chatbots and AI-based learning platforms are raising many inter- questionings on how they can be potentially used. This paper will present some of the most recent national and international news articles that show how heated and counterintuitive the debate is, still in its infancy, on the use of AI in school and academic tracks. SMART television devices , *AUTOMATIC systems in automobiles , *INFORMATION technology , *INTELLIGENCE levels , *HOUSEHOLD appliances - Abstract
Nowadays, information technology, through increasingly intelligent systems, has invaded all sectors and fields of our life. The devices we use (excluding computers, smartphones, tablets and similar) are increasingly smart: cars with advanced infotainment systems, smart TVs that are real computers, household appliances connected to the network. All these devices, in some way, use software that have a certain level of intelligence. In this context, agents are autonomous, reactive and proactive software systems, capable of interacting with both the environment in which they reside and other entities. This paper describes in broad terms what are the agents, how they are utilized in cinematography and how their use has contributed to the production of some great films of the last twenty years, such as the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings. ARTIFICIAL intelligence , *RECOMMENDER systems , *COGNITIVE bias , *PROFESSIONAL ethics , *MACHINE learning , *PUBLIC libraries , *RECOLLECTION (Psychology) - Abstract
In the first part the paper illustrates the results of an analysis of the Italian editorial production on LGBTQ+ issues, limited to non-fiction for adults published between 2016 and the first half of 2021. Subsequently, the analysis focuses on the representativeness of these publications within the collections of the library systems located in ten large Italian cities. A comparative study is carried out on various aspects: years of publication, publishers, DDC classes, Conspectus levels, usage data. Moreover, through interviews with librarians a qualitative survey is also conducted, to bring to light additional elements, including the reasons and criteria for the acquisition or the non-acquisition of LGBTQ+ titles. In conclusion, after a comparison with similar studies conducted in other geographical contexts, the author tries to understand whether cognitive biases are among the factors influencing the development of LGBTQ+ collections. Bringing out any bias is fundamental to make librarians more aware and to emphasize the professional ethics and the principles of plurality on which the concept of public library is based. This type of study also allows to obtain detailed information elements to be taken into account in projects aimed at implementing recommendation systems that exploit the potential of Artificial Intelligence and, in particular, of machine learning: it should not be forgotten, in fact, that algorithmic biases reflect real-world biases. temi e analisi [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
